In Namibia, horse-riding becomes therapy for children with special needs

An equestrian school near Windhoek in Namibia welcomes children with special needs for therapeutic riding-lessons. Working and bonding with the horses has helped the children improve their cognitive and motor skills, says the programme's director.

00:07On the outskirts of Namibia's capital Wintig, a small equestrian school is helping children with special needs
00:12by teaching them how to ride and bond with horses.
00:17It is an immense advantage to all disabled kids.
00:24It helps them to balance. It helps them with their equilibrium.
00:29It helps them to get a good posture so that they can sit behind a desk and do their schoolwork.
00:36It also helps them with speech disabilities.
00:42The enabling through the horse program was devised for children with various disabilities,
00:48including cerebral palsy and fetal alcohol syndrome.

00:56come to the equestrian centre from a local school and an orphanage.
