00:00While most of us would have been getting some R&R this Easter bank holiday,
00:04in Ashton lots of amazing people were taking part in a dance-a-thon to raise money for Pancreatic
00:09Cancer UK. With three hours of non-stop dancing they really know how to have fun,
00:14keep fit all while contributing to a great cause. I spoke with Claire and Rachel who
00:18organised this event to find out more. Hi I'm Claire. Hello I'm Rachel and we are at the
00:26Dancer Zumba Club-a-thon raising money for Pancreatic Cancer today. So we are at Ashton Leisure Centre,
00:35which is a Places for Leisure premises and today is our three hour dance-a-thon raising money as
00:42I said for Pancreatic Cancer. We'd just like to say thank you very much to all the instructors who've
00:48given their time for free, so that's Amy, Molly, Carl and Kay, Places for Leisure who've given us
00:56the hall for three hours, well more than that because we're set up beforehand and we'll be
01:00closing down so we've got that room for free which is very generous of them. All the people
01:04who've supported us by coming along today to get sweaty on Easter Saturday, everyone who's donated
01:09prizes for the Tombola, fabulous prizes for the raffle, have you got your tickets Elle? And just
01:16people who've been super kind and super supportive for our cause. It's a continuation of our fundraising for
01:22the Great North Run in September which we spoke to you last time about, so this is just something
01:26we'll also do together and we just thought it would be a fun way of spending three hours on a Saturday.
01:32Yeah, why not? So yeah we both met through the gyms, we do Clubber's Eyes Zumba together, a bit of
01:38dancing talk as well, so we wanted to do something that's like fun and engaging and kind of get as
01:44many people to come along but not to spend their afternoon with us and have a bit of fun as well, but
01:49yeah we just thought like doing like a dance-a-thon kind of gives people a bit of a challenge
01:53um and also have a bit of fun but spend and donate money at the same time. Yeah, yeah, Rachel had the
01:59idea and she said what do you think and I said brilliant, so we asked the girls who are our
02:03instructors and they were all like absolutely, all got their heads together, got a date quite quickly
02:08and then went on with Easter Saturday we'll see and everyone has been just super, people who couldn't
02:13come have donated like I say, but it's just been fabulous. Yeah. So we're raising it in
02:19memory of like everybody who's lost somebody um for cancer, there's two neighbours who we spoke
02:25about last time, so there's Nolene who lost her husband Steve very quickly and Mel who lost her
02:30partner Stu, we've also got Steph who were run with who lost her brother David, it's just brutal
02:36because it's um doesn't have very many symptoms so you don't know you've got it until it's possibly
02:41too late for any treatment um and then the treatment doesn't always help you so it needs loads of
02:46money thrown at it because it's very underfunded so if we can do a little bit to chip away and stop
02:52like another three families going through what those three families went through with their loss
02:56it'll be worth it so yeah that's why we're doing it
