00:00him on another radio station this morning and I just was left at the end of it thinking there's
00:05no humility there there's no admittance that he could ever be in the wrong he feels very you know
00:11that he is right everybody else is wrong he even said it when they challenged him on the Suella
00:15Braverman situation that really caused his downfall he said he did regret the damage that it did to
00:21the BBC but he doesn't regret his comments because he was right yeah and I just think
00:25it reminds me of what he said about Suella Braverman the former home secretary effectively accused of
00:29racism yes yeah well he's a sports commentator yes and that would be my point as well I mean what
00:35he actually said was that the language he used in a video about migrants yeah was not dissimilar to
00:41that used by Germany in the 1930s shocking well yeah it is shocking first of all it's just it's
00:46not true for him to actually turn around and say oh well that's true it's not true secondly you're
00:53absolutely right he's a football commentator so um he's also had a go about the BBC pulling the
00:59Gaza film that was made by the 30 by the feature of the 13 year old who his father was a Hamas
01:06official um well that's not not his area either the one thing he's also had a go at was um gambling
01:14in football that is his area his argument is that gambling clubs should be out of should not be
01:19sponsoring football because of the damage that gambling can do that strikes me as as within
01:25his expertise is the other stuff not you should stick to football commentating but his argument
01:30would be it's it's my free speech I've got strong views just because I'm a football commentator
01:35doesn't mean I don't have any public views yes so you have to accept some sort of restriction on
01:39your speech if you work for particular and also his vastly inflated salary presumably in some way
01:45well Premier League football is so rich because partly because gambling companies sponsored
01:50have been involved in sponsorship yes that's right yes so you can't have it both ways Gaza no but I
01:55mean but certainly but the point basically is that that he's quite right this is an area where he can
02:00make a comment on yeah as whereas the the inflammatory comparison with the home secretary was really
02:06unacceptable well before we move on to the next story we've got to read out this uh reply from the BBC
02:11after a quarter of a century Gary is stepping down from hosting match of the day at the end of this
02:16season he will continue with the match of the day top 10 podcast and the BBC will also host the
