00:30You hold our future in your hands
00:33Take with you my blessings
00:38And the hope of the Empire
00:42Find him
00:47And close shut the jaws
00:50Of oblivion
01:00Here we are 20 years later
01:05When you think about the Elder Scrolls
01:16To us it goes beyond
01:18Game franchise
01:19Yeah, it's the DNA of Bethesda Game Studios
01:22Obviously we're working on
01:24The sixth chapter here
01:26But what's great about the Elder Scrolls
01:29Is being able to look back
01:30At all of the chapters
01:31Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall, Arena
01:34Each of them try to define
01:36Role-playing games
01:37And open-world games
01:39For their generation
01:40Fans got so connected
01:42With the worlds we've made
01:43And these stories we're telling
01:45And it's really amazing
01:46Oblivion was
01:48A real defining moment
01:50In the series
01:51And for how we make games
01:53As a studio
01:54I think when it comes
01:58To a remaster
02:00We want people to feel
02:02The way they did then
02:03But it's still a game
02:05Of its time
02:06You want to keep
02:07Those bones in place
02:08You want some of that
02:10Old charm
02:12Coming back to Oblivion now
02:15With this tremendous visual update
02:18Is absolutely amazing
02:20It's the world I remember
02:21But better
02:22There's so much there
02:24Both for the Elder Scrolls world
02:26And also
02:28This evolution of our games
02:31I think is really, really important
02:32For people to take a look back at
02:34Looking back
02:35And seeing everything we've accomplished
02:38In the past 20 years
02:39And working with these people
02:40Like it's really special
02:41Yeah, there are still
02:45Quite a few people
02:46That I've worked with
02:47For that long
02:49And it sort of gave me
02:50The warm fuzzies
02:51Oh my god
02:53It's been 20 years
02:54I think the thing
02:57That gets me the most
02:58Is the music
02:59Like when you hear that music
03:01At the main menu
03:02There's just like
03:03There's this like
03:07Flood of nostalgia
03:09Oblivion
03:11Is the beginning
03:13Of who I am
03:15As an individual
03:17As a game developer
03:18It all starts with it
03:20I don't even think
03:23It took me
03:24Till release
03:25To realize
03:26How big
03:27This was
03:28People loved it
03:30Like they loved it
03:32Such a key moment
03:36In our history
03:37Of making games
03:38And the evolution
03:39Of how we build
03:40These worlds
03:41And having players
03:42Be able to come back
03:42And experience that
03:43Is really amazing
03:45We had that really special moment
03:48Of coming out into the world
03:49For the first time
03:50What that meant
03:51To this game
03:52Every time we think
03:53About oblivion
03:54It's
03:54What if we could give
03:56That moment
03:56To everybody
03:57Again
03:57I was born 87 years ago
04:02For 65 years
04:05I've ruled as Tamriel's emperor
04:07But for all these years
04:10I've never been the ruler
04:12Of my own dreams
04:13I have seen the gates of oblivion
04:18Beyond which no waking eye may see
04:21Whether you're reliving these moments
04:45Or experiencing them
04:46For the first time
04:47The world of Oblivion Remastered
04:49Immediately looks
04:51And feels incredible
04:52When we decided
04:54To remaster Oblivion
04:56We were really picky
04:57About finding the right partner
04:59From the very beginning
05:00Of this project
05:01We had one rule
05:02We weren't going to do this
05:04If we weren't going to be able
05:05To do it right
05:05Our partners at Virtuous
05:07Went above and beyond
05:09To bring our vision to life
05:10The care and love
05:12They've poured into
05:13The Oblivion Remastered
05:14Has been absolutely breathtaking
05:16Welcome to Paris
05:18And welcome to Virtuous
05:20Our team here
05:21Has been hard at work
05:22Delivering the best
05:23Remastered Oblivion
05:24Experience possible
05:25We've worked with Bethesda Game Studios
05:28On other projects in the past
05:30So we know what makes that team
05:32And their games special
05:33We wanted to make the remaster
05:39More friendly to gamers
05:41With modern hardware
05:42This is Oblivion
05:44In its most complete form
05:45It's about time
05:54Someone got here
05:55Those familiar with only some Elder Scrolls lore
06:07Will now be able to experience the events
06:09That set the stage for Skyrim
06:11You embark on an epic journey
06:13To stop the Mythic Dawn cult
06:15The time of cleansing draws nigh
06:18From unleashing the Daedric Prince of Destruction
06:20What was the Oblivion Crisis?
06:24What happened to the previous Emperor of Cyrodiil?
06:27Why are there only 8 Divines instead of 9?
06:31In addition to the core game
06:32The remaster contains all add-ons
06:34Including story expansions
06:36Shivering Isles
06:37And Knights of the Nine
06:38So you get the full experience
06:39On a personal level
06:43It was really important to me
06:44To ensure that we're preserving the magic
06:46Of the original experience
06:48At the end of the day
06:50We're all fans too
06:52This is a dream project for me
06:54I mean, I'm a fan
06:55I have been always a fan
06:57I played Oblivion for
06:59Perhaps 10,000 hours
07:00Oblivion was my first Elder Scrolls game
07:03And it was one of the games
07:04That made me want to be a game developer
07:06The best way to describe it
07:08Would be to call it
07:09A love letter
07:10You will find your own path
07:16But there will be blood and death
07:19Before the end
07:20The technology we used to create the original
07:41Was cutting edge at the time
07:43But tools have come a long way since then
07:45The original Oblivion is still the heart and soul of the remaster
07:56But we use Unreal Engine 5 to help achieve all our visual goals
08:00We think of the Oblivion game engine as the brain
08:03And Unreal 5 as the body
08:05The brain drives all the world logic and gameplay
08:08And the body brings to life the experience that players have loved
08:11For almost 20 years
08:13But it's not just about pure fidelity
08:15We knew we had to preserve the distinct style
08:19Making it as uniquely Oblivion as possible
08:22The brush opens a portal into the painting
08:27You're stuck here like I am
08:29We've leveraged nearly every major feature from the latest version of Unreal 5
08:44Our goal was to push the visuals to the next level using the latest technologies
08:49We created brand new highly detailed character models
08:52And stunning landscapes that use millions of polygons in each asset
08:56Allowing us a truly impressive level of detail in the world
08:59Every single asset in this game was completely redesigned and handcrafted from scratch
09:03We implemented an advanced real-time lighting system
09:08That accurately simulates how light interacts with the environment
09:11This results in more realistic lighting and atmospheric effects
09:15While the original game had limited dynamic shadows
09:18Now the entire world reacts naturally to light
09:21We used an incredible new lip-sync technology
09:25That really enhanced performance in our characters
09:28He left us a warning
09:30He did!
09:31Unreal Tools helped us create the base mesh of our characters
09:35From there, our artists sculpt each race individually to adapt it to the mesh
09:40Allowing us to share the model, rig, and textures
09:43As a result, all races, including Argonians, Orcs, and Khajiits
09:48Are built on the same base mesh
09:50Making the lip-sync system more effective
09:52Even when the characters have very different facial features
09:55Welcome to the Guild
09:56We have access to so many modern rendering features
10:00You'll see them in something as simple as running through a forest
10:03Insects flying around
10:05Fish swimming in the water
10:07Light filtering through the leaves
10:09Thanks to these technological advances
10:11You feel even more immersed in this living, breathing world
10:15You'll really believe you're in Ceredil
10:17I believe you can handle a more complicated assignment
10:21I would like you to retrieve a carved panel from the central chamber of the High Thane
10:26It's not just visuals that we've modernized in the remaster
10:40It's gameplay
10:42It's UI and UX
10:48It's audio
10:51We've updated features and systems across the board
10:58We've changed the approach to leveling
11:00Which I think will make a lot of people happy
11:02It's inspired by the leveling systems of both Oblivion and Skyrim
11:07So it's the best of both worlds
11:09We were able to fully recreate the character models
11:16Creating a physicality that feels more human
11:18You see that in places like combat animations
11:21Where there's a lot more separation between the upper and lower body
11:25And all the animations have more flourish
11:27Combat in the original Oblivion
11:31Didn't have sound effects
11:33Visual effects
11:34Or hit reactions
11:35Now you'll get blood splatters
11:37Sparks
11:39And controller feedback
11:41We know it's a little thing
11:42But little things add up to make the combat more modern and engaging
11:46There's a proper third-person perspective now
11:52The original had third-person
11:54But there was no crosshair
11:56And we felt the experience could be modernized
11:58One of our goals
12:00Was to have a third-person view
12:02That compared to Starfield
12:03In terms of playability
12:04Now the third-person perspective
12:07Has all the same control you get from the first-person view
12:09You have my ear, citizen
12:13When Oblivion first launched
12:15Greetings!
12:16How goes it?
12:17How are you?
12:18Disc storage limits meant
12:19We couldn't have unique voiceovers for all the races
12:22So we've gone back and recorded new lines of dialogue
12:25Each race represented in the game
12:28Now sounds unique
12:30Can't stand the sight of those creatures
12:32We also made sure to keep in all of the quirkier dialogue
12:36I really like the way they say hello
12:38Sometimes it's so random
12:40And then they just
12:40Hi there
12:41Hi there!
12:42But it's like so nice and creepy at the same time
12:44Stop!
12:45You violated the law
12:46Stop!
12:47You violated the law!
12:48Stop, criminal scum
12:50Stop right there, criminal scum
12:52Cheese for everyone
12:54Cheese for everyone
12:56We are going to steal
13:01One of the elder scrolls from the Imperial Palace
13:04You need to find the reading room
13:06The blind priests will deliver a scroll to you there
13:11Do not speak to the priests
13:12They're blindfolded
13:14I've chosen you because you are the best
13:16Good luck
13:18Stop!
13:23You violated the law
13:25Your stolen goods are now forfeited
13:27Then pay with your blood
13:28As games have developed over the past 20 years
13:40Players have come to expect a certain suite of tools and controls
13:43Like sprinting
13:44Sprinting is an interesting one
13:46Because there was such a big debate internally among our teams
13:49Some of us were absolute purists
13:51But ultimately, we decided it's 2025 and people are going to want to sprint
13:57In fact, all of the character locomotion has been completely redone from scratch
14:02And that has a huge impact from the very beginning of the game
14:05Every single updated or new feature was implemented with the player in mind
14:11It all comes down to what makes Oblivion, Oblivion
14:14What are those features that just immediately come to mind for players when they think of the game?
14:19The minigames are the minigames
14:22Those are so iconic to Oblivion
14:23That's great!
14:24How's it go again?
14:25It's like lockpicking
14:27You can put a fresh coat of paint on it
14:29But you can't change it too much
14:31Because it's part of the core experience
14:33Whether you're returning to Cyrodiil
14:36Or you're a newcomer
14:37I'm going to follow you
14:39And watch you
14:40And worship the ground you walk on
14:42You will instantly feel at home
14:44It just feels better
14:46We've modernized a lot
14:48But it's still the same incredible adventure
14:50And the same carefully handcrafted world
14:53Well, it's about time
14:55Do you know how long we've been waiting?
15:03Oblivion is a core part of the story of Bethesda Game Studios
15:08None of what we're surrounded by right now would be here
15:12If we hadn't made that game
15:14And if it hadn't been the success that it was
15:17The effort that we put into it
15:19The sort of the love that went into it
15:22I think that comes across on the screen
15:23To have worked on something that people care enough
15:28Where you're in a position where you can remaster it
15:30It's a privilege
15:32And now
15:33To help introduce this game
15:35To a new generation of players
15:37I feel so lucky
15:39I really think the people
15:41When they jump back into the remaster
15:43They're going to be shocked
15:44At just how good the game looks
15:45Oblivion gates look absolutely incredible
15:51And I think they're just going to find themselves
15:52Lost in the world
15:53Even if it's just the music, for example
15:57Just walking around for half an hour in the world
15:59You feel something
16:01And that's precious
16:03You're going back to a world that you've been to before
16:06But it's better somehow
16:08Like it's an intangible thing
16:10But it's like
16:11It's new, it's fun
16:13Like it's exciting again
16:14But it's ultimately the same game
16:16There was a lot of respect for what was before
16:19And I think the fans will appreciate that
16:21From all of us at Bethesda Game Studios
16:25And Virtuous
16:26We want to thank you for joining us today
16:28Oblivion has a very special place in my heart
16:31And being able to work on this remaster
16:33And bring it to a new generation of players
16:35Has been an incredible experience
16:37We were too excited to get it in your hands
16:41And didn't want to just show it off to you
16:43And then make you have to wait
16:44The best part of my job
16:48Is that I get to be the one to announce
16:50That the Oblivion remaster
16:51Will be available
16:52Today
16:57I was born 87 years ago
17:08But for all these years
17:13I've never been the ruler of my own dreams
17:17This is the 27th of last seed
17:24The year of Akatosh 433
17:28These are the closing days of the third era
17:33And the final hours
17:36Of my life
17:43I have seen the gates of Oblivion
17:46Beyond which no waking eye may see
17:50This is only the beginning
17:56Worse is yet to come
17:59Looks clear
18:02The time of cleansing draws nigh
18:13Who now will save us
18:15From the coming darkness
18:16Die
18:33Here you must find your own path
18:36Remember the Emperor
18:38Find him
18:55And close shut the jaws of Oblivion
18:59Night
19:01cko
19:02Freedom
19:02And close
19:04that
19:06Yeah
19:06And close
19:08analytics
19:08Death

19:13sounds
