00:00You're welcome. John.
00:01The Press. Thanks a lot, Carolina.
00:02Some economic questions for you.
00:04Kevin Hassett has been a key economic advisor to the
00:07President in both of his terms.
00:09In 2022 —
00:10Ms. And he still is.
00:11The Press. And he still is.
00:12Ms. He was just in my office.
00:13The Press. Absolutely.
00:14In 2022, he said that the independence of the Fed is
00:18super important.
00:19That's a direct quote.
00:20Is that something that the President subscribes to?
00:22Does he still believe in the independence of the Federal
00:25Reserve?
00:26Ms. Well, look, I think the President has made his
00:28attention on the Fed and on Powell quite clear.
00:32The President believes that they have been making moves and
00:36taking action in the name of politics rather in the name of
00:39what's right for the American economy.
00:41The President has the right to express his displeasure with
00:44the Fed, and he has the right to say he believes interest
00:47rates should be lower.
00:49He believes Americans should be able to borrow money cheaper
00:51than they currently are right now.
00:53And I also spoke to Kevin Hassett about the Fed as well,
00:56and he has called into question the Fed's independence
00:59and whether they are actually doing things, again,
01:01out of the best interest of the economy,
01:03or are they doing it for partisan reasons.
01:06The President wants to see interest rates lower.
01:08He has made that quite clear.
01:10We've also seen, if I may, I just, I'm sorry,
01:12one more, Kara.
