00:06Okay.
00:07This is a meet-cute.
00:08Alright, it's a meet-cute.
00:09Let's see if we can bring on, with Michael Giacchino,
00:12Zack Snyder if we clap hard.
00:17Alright.
00:18There he is!
00:20Yeah, there we go.
00:22You guys...
00:23You guys...
00:24You guys know that...
00:26I've just been in the queue, it's not a...
00:29Alright, well, Zack, we were talking to our friend Michael Giacchino,
00:35and we were asking him, Casey asked him a question,
00:38if you guys had worked together, and he said,
00:40no, you've never had the opportunity.
00:42You guys both done some amazing superhero work,
00:45and so we thought this would be a wonderful way to introduce the two of you.
00:50So, Michael, meet Zack. Zack, meet Michael.
00:52Awesome to meet you, brother.
00:53Great to meet you as well.
00:55Huge fan.
00:56Love your stuff.
00:57As am I of yours, it's really amazing.
01:00So, what are you...
01:01What are you in the middle of right now?
01:03Oh, nice interview.
01:05Yeah.
01:06It's Rebel Moon.
01:07Yeah, Rebel Moon is...
01:08Okay.
01:09I'm in the middle of this Netflix movie that we've been shooting for the last...
01:16130, so far, a lot of days.
01:22And we're just...
01:23We're nearing the end.
01:24So, it's incredible.
01:25That's amazing.
01:26Well, I gotta tell you something about that.
01:27Because my nephew, Max Pesherin, is in your movie.
01:32Oh!
01:33He plays a character that, you know...
01:35I'm not gonna say...
01:36I'll let you say whatever you want to say.
01:37I won't say what it is.
01:38But he had the greatest few days of his life.
01:41Oh, really?
01:42And it meant the world to him.
01:44And he just came out of that experience saying nothing but awesome, fantastic things about you.
01:48So, yeah.
01:49That's cool.
01:50That's your nephew.
01:51Yes.
01:52Yeah.
01:53That's cool.
01:54That's cool.
01:55Just by chance.
01:56I'm gonna say we're gonna have to wait and see what he does.
01:59But awesome to work with him and really fun.
02:01Yeah.
02:02Yeah.
02:03Just...
02:04Well, regardless of where it all goes, it was...
02:05Side five.
02:06Yeah.
02:07No.
02:08The whole thing is it's always hard to come in to crazy.
02:13But did a great job.
02:15Really did a great job.
02:16I had fun.
02:17Oh, good.
02:18He had fun.
02:19Guys, I wanted to just jump in here and recommend when you do make the Preston and Steve movie together,
02:25Yeah.
02:26Inevitable.
02:27Yes.
02:28I'm pulling for Jason Momoa, please.
02:32Oh, to play you.
02:35Yes.
02:36I know it's a stretch, but I believe he has that depth.
02:40Yeah.
02:41Yeah.
02:42Momoa and Brad Pitt.
02:43That would be awesome.
02:44That's, you know, that's nice.
02:46I think Paul Rudd is a little more realistic, you know, yeah, for me, but nonetheless.
02:51You want Brad Pitt.
02:52You want Brad Pitt.
02:53You want Brad Pitt.
02:54You want Brad Pitt.
02:55You want Brad Pitt.
02:56You want Brad Pitt.
02:57Or maybe...
02:58Yeah, yeah.
02:59Don't get me wrong.
03:00I'm just saying.
03:01Well, listen.
03:02This will be wonderful to talk to the two of you at the same time, but I tell you what,
03:06Michael, we're going to segue over and spend some time with Zach, but you know we love
03:10you and we wish you the best around the holidays.
03:12Love you, too.
03:13Michael, great to meet you.
03:14Great to meet you.
03:15Great to meet you.
03:16Have a great time, and I'll see you on the other side.
03:19All right.
03:20Michael Cicchino, guys.
03:21All right, everybody.
03:22The best.
03:23Good job.
03:24Amazing.
03:25The Philly guy.
03:26He's a Jersey guy, but he's a Philly guy.
03:28And now we have Zach, who has become a friend of ours over the years.
03:33And yeah, dude, it's great to catch up with you.
03:36And how's the year been going so far for you?
03:39We're coming to the close on a year.
03:41It's been going good.
03:42I think I've been shooting pretty much the whole time since the last time I spoke with
03:47you guys.
03:48So yeah, it's been a pretty great year just filming this giant sci-fi epic that we've been
03:56really having a great time with.
03:58It's original IP, and so there's no strings attached.
04:04So, you know.
04:05Right.
04:06Zach, I got to tell you, some pictures have been leaking out.
04:09I don't know if that's something that you're thrilled about, but some things you've, I
04:14think, released.
04:15But Rebel Moon is your sci-fi epic.
04:18And everything looks really cool.
04:21And apparently you built at least one or two practical spaceships that look pretty badass.
04:28Wow.
04:29That's fun.
04:30And so this is all, is this going to be a direct to Netflix?
04:34It's a Netflix movie.
04:35I don't know what the actual release concept is yet.
04:38We're still, you know, a little ways away from having the movie ready to come out.
04:42Of course, as you know, they're still filming.
04:44But yeah, it's a Netflix movie and they've been amazingly, they've just been amazing.
04:50So I've had a great time with them.
04:51You know, we did Army together and now doing this and it's been really fun.
04:54Is there any difference in making a movie specifically for Netflix as opposed to going into the theaters?
05:01You know, the process is not different for me.
05:07It's, I mean, we think about it.
05:10I mean, I want the experience of watching the movie on your, hopefully your giant TV at home.
05:19To be awesome.
05:20I mean, I know a lot of it's going to be that.
05:23Right.
05:24But that said, as far as our approach is, it's exactly the same as if it was going to be.
05:32Well, you've, you've proven obviously with, with, you know, Army of Thieves and Army of the Dead.
05:41And now a new one, your first anime foray, an animated series, Army of the Dead Las Vegas.
05:48That's coming soon.
05:49And also I'm doing this animated series called Twilight of the Gods, which is, you know, Norse mythology.
05:57You know, if you're into Norse mythology, this is going to be the place for you because it's really amazing.
06:05But yes, super, I have two animated series at Netflix and they're both, it's super fun to do animation.
06:12Time consuming, but rewarding, so.
06:16Do you, you're, you're an artist.
06:17Do you do your, do you do a lot of your own?
06:19Will you do your storyboarding?
06:21I, I drew for the movie, current movie, um, a little over 3000 frames.
06:28Wow.
06:29Um, and, you know, wrote it with Shay and Kurt.
06:34Um, so I have had, you know, as far as that goes, yes.
06:38And I did a little bit of storyboarding for, um, for Army, um, animated, but not, I look, you know, the guys are doing that and it's, I'm super happy.
06:49Well, I have to ask because your name keeps popping up.
06:53It's popped up recently.
06:54There's been a change up at, uh, DC.
06:56You were not, uh, you're not treated well by, uh, you know, Warner Brothers and the, and, uh, though, thank God we got Zack Snyder's Justice League.
07:06Oh my God.
07:07That is a, uh, it's a masterpiece.
07:09I watch that goddamn thing all the time.
07:12I, I love it.
07:14Uh, uh, so we've heard some things and, and everyone's kind of, they, they blurted it out and they're, they're pulling back a little bit.
07:21Is this all just a bunch to do about nothing?
07:24Is it a possibility you might be reintegrated back into that world?
07:28Hmm.
07:29Um, well, as far as I know, uh, which is very little, um, just, uh, all I'm, I'm doing my thing and, uh, haven't had anyone, uh, give me a call or anything.
07:41So I'm just, uh, wishing them all the best and hoping that, uh, they make some cool movies.
07:46Okay.
07:47Cause you, cause you, you, your, your, your stamp is across that hole.
07:50Yeah.
07:51You know, the Snyder verse.
07:52And then when I saw Henry Cable, uh, enter into the, uh, Black Adam world.
07:57Yeah.
07:58I was immediately, I was like, oh, I hope this means more for Zack Snyder.
08:03Well, I mean, I'm glad that I have your guys support.
08:06That's very kind.
08:07Um.
08:08I'll write a letter for you if you want.
08:09I mean, hey.
08:10Yes.
08:11Can't hurt.
08:12You know, the truth, truth be told, I'm having an amazing time making this giant movie that I'm working on and I couldn't be happier.
08:19So I really wish them all the best.
08:21Uh, Zack on a rebel moon, for those who may not be familiar, uh, of the story, I don't know how much you're, you're, uh, putting out there as far as, uh, what the plot entails and so on.
08:29And I know that there are supposed to be two films, uh, back to back, uh, that you're working on.
08:33What can you tell us about it, uh, in preparation for that?
08:36And when are we expected to see that as a release?
08:38Yeah.
08:39Yeah.
08:40You know, the movie's about like, um, a community, uh, planet, um, kind of not in our, you know, it's, it's a space fantasy.
08:47So it's kind of not, there's no earth necessarily.
08:51Um, but you know, uh, there's a community on a planet, a farming planet.
08:57And, um, these, uh, there's a bunch of bad guys.
09:01Um, the mother world's armies are in the area and they need to be fed.
09:05So they, they come to the village and ask for, uh, the village to feed them basically while they're doing their war, uh, in that area of the galaxy.
09:15And of course, um, they are not, uh, kind about asking and the result will probably be the obliteration of the village.
09:23And so the villagers decide to fight.
09:25And so, um, you know, they have to go out into the galaxy and collect some soldiers to warriors to help them.
09:32So the, uh, your co-script writer on this was the gentleman you worked with on 300?
09:37Kurt Johnstead, yeah, worked, uh, uh, wrote 300 with me.
09:42Um, and then also, and Shay also worked with the Sunscript and Shay wrote Army with me.
09:47So is this an, I'm getting the impression that obviously you're, you're a Star Wars fan, but this is perhaps a Star Wars, uh, your, your saga a little bit more, uh, mature, a little bit more visceral.
09:58Would that be correct?
09:59Yeah, I would hope so. Yeah, that's what we're trying for.
10:02You know, the action is really intense and, um, really wanted to do an amazing, was really excited about doing some sci-fi battle and or action sequences.
10:14You know, I've never really done that.
10:16So it was really fun to sort of dive into that, um, you know, with both feet.
10:21And, uh, also, uh, it's really fun to, you know, imagine these worlds and kind of build out this sort of brand new mythology,
10:31brand new and, um, fresh, uh, you know, cultures and, and planets and everything.
10:39Right. Yeah.
10:40I mean, I'm, I'm only, I've only been able to see stills from this movie, but the stills are just staggering, just beautiful.
10:48Uh, you know, the, the costumes, the landscape, uh, is just amazing.
10:52And then like the cast, I mean, like Anthony Hopkins.
10:57I love, I'm a big fan of Charlie Hunnam.
10:59Uh, you know.
11:00I like Jenna Malone too.
11:01Yeah. Jenna Malone, like.
11:02Jenna Malone, of course, has a amazing, a hilarious and amazing role in the movie.
11:06Um, yeah, and, um, uh, Sophia, who's the, who stars in the movie, um, she is just unbelievable.
11:17Not only as an actress, but, um, she's super athletic and has been able to do like these amazing stunts.
11:25So, you know, it's really cool to see them fighting and just, it's them and just doing an amazing job.
11:33So that's really a treat for me to be able to just, um, be able to have athletic actors that can really do just do whatever I ask,
11:42which is always, you know, taxing on them, but they, they did an amazing job.
11:46You know what?
11:47There's so much physicality and so, so many prime physical specimens in the movies that you do.
11:51At some point, do you think we'll see a chain of Zack Snyder gyms?
11:56By the way, it's always been a dream of mine to open a gym.
12:00It really is, it really is.
12:02Uh, so, but yeah, so the answer to that is absolutely yes.
12:06Excellent.
12:07Um, it's funny cause we always talk about like after 300, you know.
12:11Yeah, 300, yeah.
12:12I laugh because like, you know, everything, every protein powder has a Spartan helmet on it.
12:18And I was like, God dang, I really dropped the ball on that one, didn't I?
12:22Uh, you're, you're suggesting that the original Spartans didn't use creatine?
12:25Well, you know, they had their own form of creatine probably.
12:29You know, they would mash up some cow testicles or something.
12:33So Zack, are, are we looking for, uh, Rebel Moon in, uh, 2023, 2024?
12:38What do you think?
12:39I'm, uh, I'm not supposed to say the release date, but, uh, we're going to be in a vigorous post-schedule.
12:46Let's just say as soon as I wrap, so.
12:48Okay.
12:49You know, we're really trying to, really trying to expedite its completion.
12:52Okay.
12:53And then after that, you reach out to Jason Momoa and Brad Pitt.
12:55Yes.
12:56And we get that project going in like a Chikino.
12:57Absolutely.
12:58Yeah.
12:59Because their, their availability gets picked up pretty quickly.
13:02They have limited windows, it's true.
13:05Uh, well, listen, Zack, I mean, if they, I mean, if they heard about this, they would
13:10like drop everything.
13:11Okay.
13:12Uh, we appreciate your continued support.
13:14You've, uh, you've contacted us here during the camp out for hunger, uh, before.
13:17And, uh, we, we pull on, uh, you know, all our, our biggest celebrity friends that we
13:22have, uh, to come and, you know, try and encourage people to come out here and donate.
13:26And this is our 25th year doing it.
13:28So, uh, we appreciate your support once again, man.
13:30Of course.
13:31Of course.
13:32I'm always good for you guys.
13:33Let me know.
13:34Excellent.
13:35All right.
13:36Let's hear it.
13:37Zack Snyder guys.
13:39The best.
