00:00Jersey's Rat Radio 95.9, The Rats' Metallica 3 play ends.
00:04We are live from the PNC Bank Art Center, Rat Fest 2023.
00:08Ginger coming on a little bit later, of course, Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed.
00:11And with us backstage now, live on the radio, live, we have Dan Donegan, guitar player for Disturbed.
00:16How are you, buddy?
00:17I'm doing great. I like how you express live to make sure I don't, like, start swearing right off the gate.
00:22That's the guy back in the studio's problem. He's got the button.
00:25He's ready.
00:25So, earlier when I was actually chatting with the photographer for Breaking Ben,
00:31and she was saying that you guys have been on tour since, I guess, the first week of July with this tour, right?
00:36Yep, I think it was July 9th.
00:39So, you guys were outdoors in the heat, big time, right?
00:42Heat Wave was following us everywhere.
00:44How do you, like, give the listeners a little bit of an idea when, you know, backstage, like, what is it?
00:49There's, like, tons of air conditioning, and when you get on stage, you really don't feel it, or is it just a pitch?
00:53Not for us.
00:53I mean, some of the stages had that, but we like to, we're up there sweating.
01:01Sweat, yeah.
01:02I like there earning it. I'm getting the cardio. That's my workout up there, so I like to sweat.
01:06And then we have a ton of pyro with us, too, so, I mean, that's, you know, and most of those shows were already over 100 degrees,
01:12so with that pyro, you know, we had an incident in Houston where we set off the sprinkler system.
01:16No way!
01:17Because it was so hot, and the last song, all the pyro was going off, the system went off, and we were getting poured on buckets of hot water from the sprinkler system, so it was pretty intense.
01:27Oh, my God.
01:28And people are like, wow, this is the best special effects I've ever seen!
01:31It looked amazing, right?
01:32I'm like, if we could do that every night, it looked, yeah, it looked like part of the show, but it was very cool.
01:36That's excellent.
01:37So, how's the tour been going? You guys gelling good with Breaking Bad? I know you guys have been out there.
01:41About seven years ago, you did our Rat Fest. It was Breaking Bad.
01:44Right, right. They're awesome. We know those guys a long time, and, I mean, between their set, I mean, they have a full set of hit songs for them as well, too,
01:52so it's, you know, great for the fans that have followed both of our careers, and just a big night, and Ginger up there killing it.
02:00What are your thoughts?
02:01They're great. They're tight, good, great musicians. She's a great front woman.
02:05That voice, amazing.
02:07Big voice, little girl, and she's just, you know, she's got, and she gets melodic at times, but when she gets aggressive, and she's, you know, she's fun to look at, too.
02:15Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
02:17So, yeah, they're up there doing their thing, throwing down.
02:20Speaking of getting little, Mr. Draymond dropped some pounds.
02:25Yeah.
02:25Looking great, man.
02:27Right.
02:27Well, you're just like, wow, he's ready to go.
02:29He's just, you know, just working hard.
02:31Just once we knew we had this tour coming up, and it was going to be, you know, it's our first real tour since before COVID.
02:38You know, all the previous ones were just, you know, hit and run shows, you know, maybe a week or two here and there last year,
02:43and the previous year was only, like, five shows.
02:46So, for this to be, you know, full-on, disturbed, back at it.
02:49Yeah, with the new music.
02:50New music.
02:52We've all been through a lot of personal stuff throughout COVID, and then three of us went through divorces.
02:57So, yeah, a benefit to that is whipping yourself in shape a little bit, too, you know.
03:02Yeah.
03:02David's killing it out there.
03:04He's looking the best he's looked in years.
03:06Absolutely.
03:06And sounding great as well.
03:08And, man, I've got to tell you, it was two times we lost this show because of the pandemic.
03:14Twice.
03:15Two years in a row.
03:16Yeah.
03:16So, there's a lot of hungry rat rockers out there waiting to see you guys.
03:20I bet.
03:21You know, we love playing here.
03:22You guys have been great to us.
03:23Fans have been great.
03:24So, you know, finally we can come out here and do it.
03:27Yeah.
03:27I said it to Ben and Jason, and I'll say it to you, Dan.
03:31You guys are one of our core artists.
03:33We've been doing this for 27 years, and you guys have been with us just every step of the way.
03:37And not only do the staff appreciate it who have been here around that long, but the audience, man, you guys are aces.
03:43Well, you help bring them to us, too.
03:45Yeah, absolutely.
03:46So, feelings mutual.
03:47It's a hell of a partnership, brother.
03:48Right?
03:49Yeah, we need each other.
03:50Yeah, we do.
03:51We'll kick ass tonight, brother, all right?
03:52Dan, thank you so much.
03:53Have a great show.
03:54Tell the boys we said hey, and we'll see you tonight.
03:56Watch out for a guy dressed as Barbie, by the way.
03:58Watch out for him.
03:59He's running around.
04:00Okay.
04:00I'm surprised we haven't seen a lot of those yet.
04:03I know back home, everybody going to see the movie and all the girls dressing up.
04:06Yeah, well, you know, it's Jersey.
04:08You've got to watch out.
04:09Okay.
04:09All right, brother.
04:10Be good.
04:11Let's get back into the Rat Rock after a quick timeout.
04:13Awesome.
04:14Yep, you got it.
04:15You want to get a quick picture?
04:16Yeah.
04:19Oh, here we go.
04:20How are you doing here?
