00:00Tampa Bay's morning crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10Well, it is Military Monday. We have Allison on the phone and we get to talk to her about her daughter, Skylar.
00:15Good morning, Allison. How are you?
00:17Good morning. I'm fine. How are you?
00:18We are great. So we want to learn about Skylar. Tell us how she serves our country.
00:22Well, she is awesome and beautiful, first of all, and I love her so much.
00:27She's my baby, but she's in the Army National Guard.
00:32She's been in about 12 years, right after high school.
00:36She went to college for a few classes and then she's like, no, I need something different.
00:40And she decided to join the Army National Guard. So it was quite a shock.
00:45Take me back to that time where she came home from college and said, yeah, I'm going to enlist.
00:50And you're like, you're my baby girl.
00:52And that's exactly what I said. I'm like, no, you're not.
00:55And she's like, yes, I am. And so then it began.
00:59But I'm super proud of her. We were like, she wasn't going to make it through.
01:03Didn't think she would make it through boot camp just because she doesn't really like to be told what to do or didn't back then.
01:10I love it.
01:11So that was interesting. But she did and she made it and she loves it.
01:16She's awesome at it. And she's a sergeant now.
01:19Wow. And she plans to retire with that.
01:22She's also a Florida Highway Patrol.
01:24Oh, wow. So she serves here in our community as well.
01:27Nice.
01:28Yes.
01:29So, Allison, originally, what do you think drew Skylar to this, you know, career path and wanting to serve our country?
01:36Is it something that runs in the family or is it a calling that she had?
01:40Well, I think she needed that challenge. But my husband, he was 82nd Airborne.
01:46So she kind of, I guess, is following after him.
01:49OK.
01:50And ironically, he went to boot camp in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and that is where her boot camp was as well.
01:59Oh, that's awesome.
02:00Well, she sounds like an amazing daughter. You obviously raised her right, you know.
02:05I'd like to think so. I'm very proud of her.
02:07Well, Allison, thank you so much for, you know, talking to us, sharing your story and your daughter's story, Skylar.
02:14I mean, we love to just kind of get to know people here in our community and find out who out there is protecting and serving our country.
02:21Our friends from Stingray Chevrolet have given us a $100 gift card.
02:25So we would like you to give that to Skylar.
02:28And maybe you guys can maybe have like a mother-daughter lunch date or something or go out to dinner or just, you know, do something nice.
02:33We wanted to just, it's just our way of saying thank you for serving our country.
02:38Great. Thank you so much.
02:40Thank you so much.
