00:04:59.
00:04:59.
00:04:59!
00:04:59No, they have no goaltending.
00:05:01They have talent.
00:05:02They just don't have goaltending.
00:05:03What about Islanders, who are 1.5?
00:05:04Yeah, Islanders are interesting because they're run by Lou Lammarillo,
00:05:07who always ends up going and trying to make something.
00:05:11So, yeah, they're a different story.
00:05:13Last year they went and got Brock Besser before the deadline.
00:05:16So I could see them making a move, and they could be sneaky,
00:05:20but Pittsburgh is expected to sell.
00:05:23Right.
00:05:24Washington is just there.
00:05:26It's kind of like opening it up for the Flyers to kind of solidify a
00:05:29playoff spot.
00:05:30I got to tell you, again, Flyers save the spring.
00:05:34That's horrible.
00:05:36Flyers save the spring.
00:05:37We can't do that now.
00:05:39Look, they're going to – what if we go into the first week of April
00:05:44where the Flyers are the team that we're saying, well, they're going to the
00:05:48playoffs, and we don't know if the Sixers are doing anything more but going
00:05:52to the playoffs.
00:05:52I don't think many people would have expected that, right?
00:05:54No, it's wild.
00:05:56I mean, the playoffs is one thing, but to expect the playoffs combined with
00:06:00the Sixers being in a play-in game for the play-in tournament, I don't
00:06:04think many people would have expected that.
00:06:07But, you know, I didn't expect the Devils, who were a really, really good
00:06:11team last year, to falter the way they had.
00:06:14They got hot goaltending in the playoffs, and this year that goaltending
00:06:17just did not show up.
00:06:18Islanders –
00:06:19They put a scare into the Rangers last year, right?
00:06:21They beat the Rangers last year.
00:06:21And they beat the Rangers.
00:06:22Yeah, they beat them.
00:06:23The Islanders, you kind of expected them to bounce back a little bit, but not so much.
00:06:30So, for the Flyers to take this giant step is very surprising.
00:06:36I think everybody expected them to take a step.
00:06:38You're getting Couturier back.
00:06:39You're getting Atkinson back.
00:06:41Some of the younger guys take a step.
00:06:43You're expecting them to take a step.
00:06:44They've taken, like, five steps.
00:06:45Yes.
00:06:46It's exciting stuff.
00:06:48And so, you'll have Flyers hockey tomorrow night on 97.5.
00:06:52The Fanatic has the Flyers and the Devils in the outdoor game.
00:06:56We'll talk to Tim Saunders coming up around 920.
00:06:59He likes Pat.
00:07:00Doesn't love him.
00:07:01Doesn't love him.
00:07:02He likes him.
00:07:03I don't know about that so much, but –
00:07:05I heard he likes you.
00:07:07He tolerated me.
00:07:08Coatsy loves you.
00:07:09Yeah.
00:07:09Coatsy liked me.
00:07:10Coatsy loves you.
00:07:11Timmy tolerated me.
00:07:12Timmy, I think, just, like, put up with you.
00:07:13So, we had some interesting discussions yesterday on 97.5 The Fanatic.
00:07:19And, obviously, a big story that everybody's been talking about is Hassan Redick.
00:07:23And the idea of whether Hassan's going to be back, whether he's going to find a trade partner,
00:07:29whether the Eagles really want to pay him at all in the first place.
00:07:32Tim McManus joined the best show ever, and he was talking about it.
00:07:36And he said, don't be surprised.
00:07:38He could be on the move.
00:07:40Edge rushers are a premium position.
00:07:43Right.
00:07:43So, like, there's some guys that could go out there, and they're older.
00:07:46Like, it happened with Slay last year, where he was like, I'm kind of unhappy.
00:07:50All right, go out and see what you can get.
00:07:52The market wasn't great.
00:07:53He ends up back in Philly.
00:07:54So, that scenario was possible.
00:07:56But with edge rushers, like, you know there's teams out there that are desperate to improve their pass rush.
00:08:01There's a lot of teams that are looking to get better in that area.
00:08:04And he has proven that he can be as productive as just about anybody else on planet Earth when it comes to sacking the quarterback right now.
00:08:11Which means that it's not a 0% chance for sure that he moves on.
00:08:15I mean, you open up that possibility, and it only takes one team to say, yeah, that's cool.
00:08:20Like, I'll give a second round plus for Hassan Reddick.
00:08:23I'll pay him, no, let's call it $20 million.
00:08:25You got it.
00:08:26I'm going to say something.
00:08:28Tim McManus, again, I'll tell you.
00:08:30Love his reporting.
00:08:31Love reading him.
00:08:33Love hearing him yesterday with the best show ever and being a part of our station.
00:08:36There ain't any way the Eagles are getting a second round plus for Hassan Reddick.
00:08:42They're not getting second round plus for Hassan Reddick.
00:08:47And, look, I'll eat my words.
00:08:49I'll eat my words if it happens.
00:08:50Not when somebody's going to have to pay him $20-plus million a year in a big money extension.
00:08:56If they trade for him.
00:08:57I don't believe for one second the market is there where the Eagles are going to get second round plus.
00:09:03Like, plus probably meaning a fifth round pick, probably like second and a fifth.
00:09:07Something like that.
00:09:09Tim, look, Tim has more context.
00:09:12I just don't, I do not see it.
00:09:14I think it's, I think it's fiction.
00:09:16I don't want.
00:09:17That market exists.
00:09:18And I don't want to hear it, by the way.
00:09:19Yeah, I don't want you to eat your words because it means that he was traded.
00:09:22Correct.
00:09:23So I don't want that.
00:09:24But I.
00:09:25And are words filling?
00:09:26I mean, honestly.
00:09:27It depends.
00:09:28Alphabet soup can be at times.
00:09:32Look, I mean, you'd need a team that has a lot of cap space like the Bears.
00:09:35I'll point to the Bears.
00:09:36Right.
00:09:36And they might have some picks, you know, if they trade back, they trade out of that number
00:09:41one pick, you're figuring they're getting a bevy of picks.
00:09:44They would be interesting.
00:09:45I don't even want to think about him going anywhere, though.
00:09:47Like, I want this to be the Darius Slay situation.
00:09:49I want it to be, hey, you know, you can go test the market.
00:09:53Well, ultimately, I want to be here.
00:09:54All right.
00:09:54Well, here's our best, best offer.
00:09:56Will you take it or leave it?
00:09:57All right.
00:09:57I'll take it.
00:09:58You know, I mean, Hassan has said as much that he wants to come back.
00:10:02This is home.
00:10:02We all know the story.
00:10:04Yeah, we all know the story.
00:10:05He plays college ball here.
00:10:06And he, you know, dreamed of being an Eagle.
00:10:09And now he's an Eagle.
00:10:09So I don't want to see them trade him.
00:10:14I'd rather see them just pony up the cash and pay him because they haven't really developed
00:10:19anybody else.
00:10:20Well, that is one of the things that Tim McManus also commented on is I believe it comes across
00:10:26and he was in with the best show ever.
00:10:28It was a really good discussion talking about that.
00:10:31He, I believe, wants Redick paid also.
00:10:33He's had the production behind it.
00:10:35I mean, not just 16 sacks last year, but then three and a half in the postseason.
00:10:39He almost got to the big 2-0 for that whole year and, you know, wrecked the game against
00:10:45San Francisco, getting them to the Super Bowl.
00:10:47So this is somebody that's been really productive for you.
00:10:50The answer as to why they are this hesitant to pay him is a bit of a mystery.
00:10:55Obviously, they have put down a valuation of where they feel like Redick is versus where
00:11:01he wants to get to.
00:11:02And there's a disagreement on that right now.
00:11:04And they've stayed pretty firm to that valuation.
00:11:07But I think it brings up like this whole other big picture question.
00:11:10Because when I look at the roster and what's happening right now, there's a chance that
00:11:14Hassan Redick is gone from this team.
00:11:16There's a chance that Fletcher Cox is gone from this team.
00:11:19There's a chance that Jason Kelsey is also moving on.
00:11:22And when I look at those three players, I would say that all of them were in the top
00:11:26five of most productive players in 2023.
00:11:30Oh, yeah.
00:11:31Three of them might be gone.
00:11:32Arguably, your two best players on defense, which was a bad defense, but your two bright
00:11:38spots, along with probably Darius Slay, might be off of the roster, which begs the question,
00:11:42like, what are they doing?
00:11:44Okay, here's what I don't get about that conversation.
00:11:47And again, respect the hell out of Tim, and he knows more than I do on this story.
00:11:53But here's what I don't get on this discussion.
00:11:56We don't know why the Eagles are hesitant to pay him.
00:11:59He's asking for too much.
00:12:02Like, this is obvious.
00:12:04He's asking for something that they consider to be, not the Eagles consider to be, too much
00:12:09to pay.
00:12:10There's no Scooby-Doo mystery here.
00:12:12We don't need to see Shaggy and Scoob walk in, looking for a sandwich, and stumble onto
00:12:17it.
00:12:17Oh, Hassan Reddick wants to be paid in the neighborhood of a T.J. Watt.
00:12:24He's not in that neighborhood.
00:12:26Oh, he's in the neighborhood.
00:12:27No.
00:12:28He is in the neighborhood.
00:12:29No.
00:12:29That's ridiculous to say he's not in the neighborhood.
00:12:30When you look at the production, you're a numbers guy.
00:12:32Look at the production.
00:12:33The production's there.
00:12:34But I gotta know that I can use him for more than one thing.
00:12:37He does one thing, and he does it very, very well.
00:12:40T.J. Watt does not do just one thing well.
00:12:42He's in the neighborhood.
00:12:44I don't.
00:12:44I really don't.
00:12:45I think it's...
00:12:46What's the neighborhood, though?
00:12:47Maybe we're disagreeing on the neighborhood.
00:12:48Well, I mean, sacks.
00:12:49You're paid to get to the quarterback.
00:12:50No, no, no, no.
00:12:50What's the neighborhood as far as pay?
00:12:52Oh, pay?
00:12:53I...
00:12:53T.J. Watt gives you so much more as a defensive player than Hassan Reddick does.
00:12:58Hassan Reddick gives you his skill set.
00:13:01It's a specialty, and he's freaking awesome at it.
00:13:03And we both...
00:13:04We both want...
00:13:05We both petitioned for him to be here.
00:13:06I'm not going to pretend to be watching Pittsburgh Steelers football.
00:13:09I'm well on record.
00:13:10I hate the AFC North so much.
00:13:12I hate that brand of football.
00:13:13Why do you hate it so much?
00:13:14Because it's old-school football of, let's blood on the saddle, run the football, running
00:13:19backs, Jamal Lewis, you know, the Cleveland Browns, the French, the Pittsburghs, the Iron
00:13:24Curtain were built on defense and toughness.
00:13:27Back in my day, it sucks.
00:13:28It sucks.
00:13:29Thank God Joe Burrow showed up.
00:13:30That division is garbage.
00:13:33It's been garbage for a while.
00:13:34I loathe it.
00:13:35So I'm not going to act like I'm breaking down T.J.
00:13:37Watt game film.
00:13:38But when you look at both their ability to get to the quarterback, it's there.
00:13:42Oh, it is.
00:13:43But one guy can help you in the run game.
00:13:45One guy can do other things.
00:13:47You don't have to take him off the field.
00:13:48I think that T.J.
00:13:50Watt, as you said the other day, every GM's taking T.J.
00:13:53Watt before Son Reddick.
00:13:55But Son Reddick, his ability to get to the quarterback is something that you don't find.
00:14:00You don't find that on most teams.
00:14:02You just don't find it on the street.
00:14:03And you're probably not getting it in a – you're probably not getting it unless you develop it down the line in a draft pick later on.
00:14:13And that's going to take years.
00:14:15And even then, are you getting a guy that will give you 16 sacks and then whatever he had this year, which was double digits again?
00:14:21Probably not.
00:14:23And you were on the same page.
00:14:24We both love Son Reddick.
00:14:25We both want him back.
00:14:26But I keep reading this, and I keep reading this, I keep hearing this.
00:14:33I don't understand why the Eagles just don't want to pay him.
00:14:36It's because he's asking, you have all these holes.
00:14:39You've got all these holes on a team.
00:14:41You can't just say, Hassan, we'll give you the blank check.
00:14:44Then we'll worry about all the other holes.
00:14:46You set a value.
00:14:47And the Eagles, by the way, have been one of the best organizations in football at setting a player's value and getting it at the value that they want.
00:14:56I don't, like, this is not a mystery.
00:14:58I don't understand why this story is being discussed the way it is.
00:15:02He wants a number.
00:15:04They don't agree with the number.
00:15:05They're going to try to negotiate a number.
00:15:07I think the worry is, yeah, you do have all these holes.
00:15:09But if you let Hassan Reddick go, you just created another hole that you didn't need to create.
00:15:14And that's a hole that is a giant hole at this point because you're leaving the team with one guy that can get to the quarterback.
00:15:20That's Josh Sweat, and he took two months off.
00:15:22I think it was scheme, whatever.
00:15:23But, like, it's a concern for sure.
00:15:26So, hey, like, we have this guy.
00:15:27Let's lock him up.
00:15:28I'm surprised he didn't lock him up, you know, midseason.
00:15:31It's like how he's so good at identifying and getting that contract out there and locking guys up early.
00:15:38And so it's a little head-scratching that it hasn't happened at this point because it is a specialty of his.
00:15:44Could it be?
00:15:44I do want to – I would be interested to know, like, what is the price?
00:15:48Like, what was the last negotiating offer?
00:15:50What are the Eagles offering?
00:15:51How far apart are these two sides?
00:15:54Are they just nickel and diming each other at this point?
00:15:56Or are they worlds apart on a valuation where it's like, yeah, you're probably looking at a trade?
00:16:02And I do not for a second believe that the Eagles don't want him back.
00:16:08I think they want him back.
00:16:09But as you said, their price.
00:16:11They set the price.
00:16:13And the Eagles do this as well as any team in the NFL.
00:16:16Setting prices for players.
00:16:18Who belongs here or who otherwise?
00:16:19I've got to tell you this, and this is going to be where Pat and I will probably debate this a little bit,
00:16:26is I want a great defense.
00:16:29I don't want to – I don't – I want a great defense.
00:16:32I just don't want a great pass rusher.
00:16:34I want a great defense.
00:16:36And if it's going to deter me from being able to build a great defense,
00:16:41if Vic Fangio looks at it and says, I've got to tell you, I'm not –
00:16:45if you invest that much in him, it's going to hurt us here, here.
00:16:49With what else I want to do.
00:16:51I want a great defense.
00:16:53I just don't want a great player.
00:16:56I mean, I want a great defense, too.
00:16:57I think you can build a great defense depending on what you give him.
00:17:02Can you build a defense around him, though?
00:17:04Around a player with just one skill set?
00:17:07Yeah, I think so.
00:17:08I mean, Giants did it with, you know, Michael Strahan.
00:17:11He had one skill set.
00:17:12Get to the quarterback.
00:17:13Reggie White, get to the quarterback.
00:17:15Like, he's –
00:17:16Reggie White blew the game up, though.
00:17:18I mean, he wasn't – Reggie White wasn't –
00:17:19I'm thinking of guys that were elite at getting the quarterback,
00:17:22and I put Hassan Redick.
00:17:23I mean, Hassan Redick's the best guy I've seen at getting the quarterback
00:17:26in probably my lifetime playing for the Birds.
00:17:29You know, before him, it was like Trent Cole,
00:17:31and then before that, it was, you know, not much.
00:17:36Not much to write home about.
00:17:37I mean, they were always able to get a lot of sacks,
00:17:39but they would do it nine here, six here, five here, seven here.
00:17:43It wasn't that one guy that you consistently count on every game to get to the quarter.
00:17:47I think you can build a defense around him, but you have to do it wisely.
00:17:53Like, you have to be able to find a linebacker.
00:17:56I'm not even looking for two.
00:17:56I'm looking for one guy that can cover.
00:17:59That's it.
00:18:00I'm not trying to be greedy here.
00:18:02I mean, if you go out there and you find one linebacker,
00:18:06competent linebacker, and a safety, I think you're good, honestly.
00:18:11It gets much better.
00:18:12I think you're better.
00:18:14Bradbury's better.
00:18:14Slay's better.
00:18:16Everything's better.
00:18:16Yeah, you're getting to the quarterback at that point.
00:18:18Josh Sweat isn't going to go two months again without a Saki figure.
00:18:21You get some complimentary pieces in there.
00:18:23If Nolan Smith can, you know, just focus on being an edge rusher
00:18:26and not the crap they had him doing last year,
00:18:28like, it could be a quick turnaround with this defense where you go like,
00:18:33wow, I wasn't expecting that.
00:18:34You know, Jordan Davis needs to take a jump up.
00:18:35Are you saying, like, back to competent?
00:18:37Back to competent.
00:18:38Yeah, that's, I mean, at this point, that's all we're asking, right?
00:18:41Like, we're not looking for a number one.
00:18:44Hey, if you want to jump in with us on this, it's early on if you're awake
00:18:47and ready to go.
00:18:48610-6320-975.
00:18:50We'll have more coming out of Phillies Camp, too,
00:18:53where the discussions of Zach Wheeler and a long-term commitment,
00:18:58and again, a strange, strange thing surfacing that raised Pat's eyebrows
00:19:03yesterday, and their well-groomed eyebrows.

00:19:24The Flyers' four-game winning streak came to an end last night
00:19:26with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
00:19:29The team battled back from a 3-1 deficit,
00:19:31scoring two goals in the final six minutes to force overtime.
00:19:34Unfortunately, the Maple Leafs' William Nylander
00:19:37put the game away just 54 seconds into overtime.
00:19:59We'll talk about the first half.

00:27:27have like a hunger game style battle in the parking lot to see who brings supreme i think
00:27:31gunner is just gunner i mean that's easier that's fair do that no i i want to see a battle of the
00:27:36death well that personally who are you betting on see i think patrilli could get really could
00:27:41get really rough i think i think patrilli could get really rough he fights dirty he's definitely
00:27:46got pockets and he's running on he's too chill like he laughs at everything he's like you say
00:27:53funny you ask him like oh like how's your day going he's like chuckling like he's not built that
00:27:58way he's not built to fight to the death so i'm thinking like patrilli's like a minus 450 favorite
00:28:03in this fight hey uh 6 a.m sponsors bradford white water heaters bradford white is here for the pro
00:28:09you may need it uh from the looks of things now i'm seeing like three to five inches
00:28:13for where we are out in land view that joke writes itself i'm not gonna touch it though
00:28:19is it hitting like new york and new jersey like is it gonna be snowing for the game up there a little
00:28:23bit it looks like it will be that'll be pretty cool well it's gonna be fast moving through here
00:28:27so uh i think it'll be in the morning and then it'll be gone it'll be gone by they won't have
00:28:32a problem look uh it's the the story of hassan reddick started the show today you heard from
00:28:38the great tim mcmanish yesterday with the best show ever that's really good i love having these
00:28:43guys in and being able to kick around like that that's good conversation yeah and ian wanted to
00:28:48join us on it ian good morning you're on the fanatic hey what's going on fellas hey buddy
00:28:52so john you keep talking about hassan not as good as tj watt are you not in the neighborhood
00:28:57he absolutely is in the neighborhood no as far as getting paid is what the neighborhood i'm talking
00:29:02about is getting paid i don't believe he's the same player as tj watt though yeah well tj watt
00:29:07was able to be at the end straight out of college they they used to sign reddick in arizona for the
00:29:13first three years as a linebacker okay they was using the problem so if they use them properly from
00:29:19the start then their numbers are identical i don't believe for okay tell me about what he
00:29:24does in the run game what does what does hassan reddick give you in the run game what did what
00:29:29do nick bosa give you no no no we're talking about tj watt you jj i'm just tj watt about it i'm talking
00:29:35about in terms of like dns dns are paid to get to the quarterback they're not really paid
00:29:38to stop the run defense attack yeah but what if they can what if they can help you in that
00:29:43they all do help you have fire reddick helped you again come on come on he helps you
00:29:49i think you've been a little unfair ian i love pat and i literally petitioned for hassan reddick to be
00:29:55here he's a tempo owl i love him i love him but if you're telling me that you believe he is the same
00:30:01defensive force or the same defensive weapon that tj watt is i think you're not i think you're i
00:30:08just don't think you're watching tj watt yeah i think you need to go watch tj watt a little more
00:30:13because his specialty is rushing to pass it is that's it i need to go watch tj watt more i'll
00:30:17throw a hands up because i can't stand watching pittsburgh now listen let me ask you this okay go on
00:30:22i mean he had eight more he had eight more sacks than him this year that's significant he almost
00:30:27doubled i mean not almost doubled him but like 75 80 more sacks yeah just that alone and they were
00:30:34dropping hassan reddick in coverage so at the end of the year they did do that in a couple of games
00:30:38they did it in the beginning of the year too he talked about it so but let me ask you this let me
00:30:43run this back real quick okay we found him for three for 45 which is 15 a year right if he wants to get
00:30:49up to 21 which is another six million a year what would you sign up for that because i would sign me up
00:30:55i think i'd go i think i'd be willing to go 20 i would flat 20 yeah i'd go flat 20 i'd go 21 i mean
00:31:03i don't like i don't 21 is that but but the only thing is is people are saying what is what's the
00:31:09hold up here why don't the eagles want to pay him because you're not finding out what tj would
00:31:14what excuse me what hassan reddick's asking to be paid we don't know and when we find out what he's
00:31:20asking to be paid it may be ridiculous and it might be but without him we ain't getting no
00:31:26sack i'm gonna tell you right now okay it's tj watt tj watts paid 28 million on average a year
00:31:32all right so there's a reason 23 there's uh not 23 no way i'm doing 23 sign me up you and pat me up
00:31:41you and pat are blowing up my salary cats go t good job have a good weekend take him i love you
00:31:48buddy thank you how about i mean tj walk on it he he may be the best he may be the if he's not the
00:31:57best defensive player in the game he's one of them you got but you gotta pay you gotta pay guys to get
00:32:01to the quarterback you do but you don't pay you don't pay him in the neighborhood of tj watt let me
00:32:06look at what nick bose is getting paid i mean that is a good comparison it's like 24 and a half
00:32:10guaranteed per five years bosa i'm dumb yeah bosa and then like the total contract is 170 for five
00:32:17years but it's 122 five years guaranteed okay the uh uh bosa next year is gonna make what year of that
00:32:25is his contract when did bosa sign that contract two years ago exactly bosa's 26 years old you can't do
00:32:32you can't do that you can't but like you have to do it as if they were both on the market right now
00:32:37you think that bosa well you think that bosa's going you think that uh uh we're gonna see hassan
00:32:44reddick get paid what bosa's paid well because one's 26 or whatever 27 that's another reason why
00:32:50one's 30 that's another reason why what you pay a guy matters it does but i'm like i okay so you don't
00:32:55pay him uh whatever it is i say if you said 2021 i am all in ink it but i guarantee you he's asking
00:33:04for i i'm telling you right now he's asking for 25 yeah but i don't necessarily think he's going to
00:33:09find that on the open market so i think he is going to end up staying here and he'll probably get 2021
00:33:14million a year that's what i think is going to end up happening uh looking at looking at nick bosa
00:33:18his average is 34 million a year well yeah well nick nick bosa's the better bosa right uh that's
00:33:24that's insane yeah joey bosa's only played nine games the last exactly you can't count on joey
00:33:28bosa the same way but i believe joey bosa would get paid more than hassan reddick hassan reddick
00:33:33standing there in the in the defensive player store and you got that i think more people are taking
00:33:38the other either bosa off the shelves i think because he's a bigger name but i would definitely
00:33:43take asan reddick over joey bosa i would trust him because he's reliable i'm taking asan over joey
00:33:49yeah for sure he's reliable because of that yeah 18 and a half sacks and an nfc championship game
00:33:56record just doesn't fall out of the sky like we haven't like pat said i've never seen a player like
00:34:00him in my life coming off the edge yeah and i'm always getting 27 million a year as you say coming
00:34:06off the edge that is good you're absolutely right you haven't you haven't in your lifetime but you can
00:34:12see game there were we've had game wreckers in this franchise that just do so much they don't just
00:34:19hit hassan and i don't i'm trying to say i do not want to disrespect hassan reddick i love i love the
00:34:28fact that he's here and i want him here but hassan reddick is one specialty one thing he does help you
00:34:35he does not set an edge he cannot set an edge it is obvious so you can't get that he doesn't help
00:34:43you in run support can't tackle anybody with that way in the run game so i mean it's that you're you're
00:34:51too quick to side with the eagles with this like and that's like that's my issue is like you we don't
00:34:55know one we don't know what the contract is we don't know if hassan reddick is asking for 21 million
00:35:00i'm in but we don't know so you're quick to go i'm gonna side with the birds instead of the
00:35:06player who's been productive and you're right he does one thing he does one thing that only maybe
00:35:11two other guys in the nfl can do and that is consistently get to the quarterback wreck games
00:35:17wreck quarterbacks wreck seasons i you gotta pay for that you gotta pay a premium i get it but the
00:35:23thing is we don't know what he's asking so why are you so quick to side with the birds because i do
00:35:28know that if it's 20 with the escalation in next year's salary cap too i guarantee you the eagles
00:35:34would consider 20 i'm telling you right now i will tell i will tell you he's asking for 25 i don't know
00:35:40what brian dawkins was asking when he left for for for denver you know i mean it wasn't that much
00:35:46what was brian 32 i gotta look i mean is he 32 i well see joe banner decided he was washed and we can
00:35:53just go with you know uh rashad barkstale so let's go with that cj gaddis are you trying to bring back
00:35:59ptsd for everybody but like my point is like sometimes they do get it wrong sometimes they do
00:36:04overthink the room sometimes they do mess up and they do let players walk and they make the wrong
00:36:09decision and sometimes it works out for them and but other times it doesn't and when i see a guy that
00:36:16can consistently get to the quarterback i'm not saying give him a blank check and i don't know and
00:36:20maybe he does want 30 million that's what he's asking and i hope that eventually in a couple
00:36:24days we're laughing about this and we're just like that right i don't i don't try to go well we might
00:36:31be you might you might sit there and see that he's getting paid 18 million and you go all of a sudden
00:36:36it comes out of here's what i'm going to say to you right now is that is that i think as much as you
00:36:41say well why are you so quick to side with the eagles i'm asking you why are you so quick to side with
00:36:45son when you don't know in any way shape or form what he's asking for because i think when you
00:36:49have that production you deserve to get paid yeah but you have to what is he asking until i know
00:36:54what he's asking for i can't say you're right i agree hasan reddick deserves a raise a significant
00:37:00raise and if you're making 15 million this year and the eagles offer you 20 and they offer you a 33
00:37:06percent raise that's a damn significant raise that is a significant raise it's going to be
00:37:11interesting to see like whenever whatever he signs will be interesting because it sounds like from
00:37:15his comments he is willing to give the birds a hometown discount i think that's the way it
00:37:20sounds also so it'll be interesting to see like if he were to get traded to a chicago and i'm just
00:37:26using them because they have a ton of cap space and they created more yesterday but if he were to get
00:37:30traded to a chicago i i think he probably is getting paid 27 28 oh my gosh that would be that would be
00:37:38absolutely absurd but that's what you pay premium guys to get to the quarterback i do but if i'm paying
00:37:44the premium guy in the sport tj watt if i'm paying him that money there's no way i'm paying hasan
00:37:50reddick the same money it's ridiculous i mean you know salaries are only going up i mean i got you
00:37:56yeah you're right about that yeah i see guys in major league baseball getting more than 25 million
00:38:00that aren't as good as price harper it's just the way it goes sometimes and i wouldn't be surprised
00:38:04if tj watt looks around or his agent i should say and goes yeah we're renegotiating we renegotiate this is
00:38:09ridiculous i think he asked i think he's gonna have to wait a little bit though to so just just
00:38:13just hold that money yeah i'm not really feeling training camp this year i don't really feel like
00:38:17it hey uh we got a lot going on obviously it's uh nba all-star weekend it it's nba all-star weekend
00:38:25it means nothing to me i'm just being honest you're pumped about i can see it i i now here's the bad
00:38:31thing pat i used to be really i well you see you weren't around when nba all-star weekend began
00:38:40no nba all-star weekend used to be a huge thing it used to be a spectacle the dunk contest used to
00:38:49matter the biggest stars in the game participated in these events those those contests those saturday
00:38:58night game that was must see tv and i'm telling you from every bar on the main line i'm just
00:39:03using bars on the main line just going back to my database like being in a bar like kelly's i remember
00:39:10nba all-star weekend being in kelly's right there off of villa nowhere's campus and that every tv in
00:39:19the place was on the nba dunk contest and everything and i'm watching a dunk contest in a bar with men
00:39:27women mingling music playing and everything and every single tv had the nba dunk contest what year
00:39:33are we talking i'm guessing uh yeah yeah i'm guessing 90 89 so i would i would something like
00:39:43that i bet a lot of the tvs now will still have the dunk contest on but the other tvs will know who
00:39:50they are that's part of the problem the other part is we just have more we have more options like
00:39:56you're gonna have more channels that you can turn to and go i want to watch the flyers devils
00:40:02i want to watch mma i'm hoping they're listening to 97 by the fanatic hopefully yeah but like uh you
00:40:09know i want to watch college hoops like you weren't able to do that in 1990 it was like
00:40:13hey if you want sports tonight you kind of got like two options there was always college hoops on
00:40:18yeah you got a couple options but that's about it i you know i i i'm with you like it lost its
00:40:24luster after the big name guy stopped doing it it's like i can't get excited over jeff green blowing
00:40:30out a blowing out a cupcake and then he's cut like three days later that just sucks and the mac mcclung
00:40:35story is awesome because you know he was a g-league guy and you talk about a guy getting getting paid to
00:40:41one skill set um but it was awesome because he was from the g-league and everybody else were like
00:40:48eh nba players so it was just cool to see a g-league guy beat all of them i don't know how many people
00:40:55are going to be really heavily invested this year in what in watching jacob toppin no i'm not jacob
00:41:02toppin is one of the four players not interested nobody on the streets could tell you who jacob
00:41:07toppin is yeah i'm gonna have to google that name how about uh jamie jasquez jr jamie jacquez jr yeah
00:41:12he's all right he's all right he's good no but i mean he's not he's good but he's not of him as a
00:41:16he's not a household name no no i don't think of him as a as a as a dunker that's the problem now thank
00:41:22you jalen brown for participating for actually caring about trying to sell your sport which is what
00:41:29the biggest names in the game did the dr jays the dominique wilkins the larry birds the they
00:41:38they used to care about selling their sport and they didn't care that they were the biggest names
00:41:43in the game they participated well that was probably at a time where you had to sell this yeah i was
00:41:48about to say counter to that is they built what these players ascended into but then these players
00:41:53don't want to help sustain what other players built for we'll see i think i think that's that's where
00:41:59we're going to differ because i think that the players now the nba is so large that they don't
00:42:03have to sustain anything it's already a juggernaut like it's the nfl and the nba to me are separate
00:42:09from from major league baseball and the nhl yeah and then the nba guys they're worldwide stars compared
00:42:15to the nfl people in china know lebron they don't necessarily know a jalen hurts that's yeah and i wait
00:42:21till we wait till the eagles play in china in 2026 and that's one of the reasons though why they are
00:42:25trying to get out there and grow the game absolutely these other games but um you know
00:42:31what people i don't think recognize is that the nba all-star weekend and the skills competition all
00:42:36that was started because of the fact that the nba was like fourth in the pecking order and they
00:42:41needed something to kind of bring the crowd in that's where you get the dunk content and i think
00:42:45it was started by the guy who was the gm of or the president of basketball ops for the warriors that
00:42:51just retired um he just left you say you think but i'm i'm i remember seeing a real sports thing
00:42:57about like that was his baby that was his idea and he came up with it at a time where the nba was on
00:43:02tape delay and they weren't very popular and it's it brought stars to tvs that necessarily weren't
00:43:08checking it out because it's like oh i can see dr j dunk those guys had to grow the game i don't
00:43:13necessarily look at now lebron needing to grow the game because the game is already so large but but
00:43:19that's it's been like that for me for a while the idea is still there though because they're doing
00:43:24it with women's basketball now they're bringing in what's her name to do the three-point competition
00:43:28with steph curry they're trying to grow a game it's just not the nba anymore it's the wmb that's a
00:43:33great point what's her name is that what you're telling what's her name is being brought in a
00:43:38little disrespectful there brennan i can't remember her name off the top of my head you go what's her
00:43:42name i mean she's in the she's in the three-point mac mcclung will be back to defend his
00:43:46sabrina ionesca right just just struck a bing search but i mean before you pop the mic on i mean
00:43:51mac mcclung kidding of the osceola magic yeah shout out to the osceola magic i mean it's it's
00:43:58it's pathetic that you have a g-league guy i i love it that is the only part that i do like that the
00:44:04nf the nba has to go to get somebody like that jalen brown's willing to participate i love it and
00:44:09nobody else yeah well and that's come on that's what sucks about it is the fact that you know
00:44:14everybody wants to see lebron and they you know i mean lebron's the big name that you'd want to see
00:44:20blake griffin would be another one and he did it years ago and he jumped over the kia the other thing
00:44:24is like has the dunk contest kind of just lost its luster because we've basically seen everything
00:44:30like for me the moment that i was out in the dunk contest i'll never forget was nate robinson trying
00:44:3575 attempts at one dunk he finally got it he won the damn thing they've since changed the rules where
00:44:42you can't have unlimited attempts but for me that was the moment where i was like all right i'm done
00:44:47okay well i kind of saw everything at this point i got what you're i got what you're saying but let
00:44:51me ask you this do you watch the home run derby not really anymore see i don't not really and i don't
00:44:57take much of an interest they've changed the rules on that and i i think part of the reason why i don't
00:45:02watch the home run derby necessarily is because of the philly success so for me the philly success
00:45:07when i was younger growing up was bobby abreu like that's what i hung my hat on i knew the
00:45:13phillies weren't doing much damn i got bobby abreu and he's in the derby he's my guy and then
00:45:17jim told me he's in the derby then ryan howard's in the derby and then they got in the playoffs
00:45:21and they won a world series listen to what then the goal became something else for me as a sports
00:45:26fan where the derby necessarily didn't really matter i don't know if if bryce harper as a philly
00:45:32or kyle schwarber as a philly like kyle schwarber wasn't in a couple years i didn't really care
00:45:36listen to what he said though and there was jim tomei in the home run derby and ryan howard in
00:45:42the home run derby and then there's pete alonzo now in the home run derby some of the the biggest
00:45:46stars of baseball tried to sell their sport but think about what we said the nfl the nba they're
00:45:52in a category on their own and then it's major league baseball in the nhl that do have to grow their
00:45:56game i i would look at it this way is it's great people talk about the nba and it's nice it is an
00:46:02international game but it still is it doesn't get you add every single game of the nba finals
00:46:08together the amount of eyeballs that are on it in this country the people in where where it lives
00:46:13is still nothing compared to the nfl nothing well no i mean it's i mean look the nfl we've talked
00:46:20about on days of the week yeah it does i mean legitimately days of the week they just own it
00:46:24two you could add three finals games together and it would equal one sunday afternoon 425 start on cbs
00:46:32of a regular season yeah but that's i mean that's comparing like taylor swift to olivia rodrigo
00:46:38it's like oh they're both great i like olivia i like trust me also i know you're a big o-rod fan
00:46:44but to compare the two it's like one is up here you just went o-rod yeah and then the other one's
00:46:49down here all right it's like in terms of success they're both great no but they get talked about on
00:46:55the same level and they're not tickets are selling out all right try finding olivia
00:46:59rodrigo you're not gonna be able to you have them on the secondary market i'm sure hey uh
00:47:03i'm going to that guy yeah matt gelb uh joined andrew salchunas yesterday and the talk came up
00:47:10will this guy be around long term john kinkade show on 97.5 the fanatic

00:56:21your flow can't force a pump can't force it can't force it i'm feeling it by the way bob uh just so you
00:56:28know bob uh still feeling under the weather and he made the intelligent decision to stay home today
00:56:34scumbag yeah but i i greatly appreciate it i don't as someone who two weeks from now is getting
00:56:39on a plane to go to punta cana and i know that andrew's getting ready to get on a plane to go away
00:56:45don't get other people sick it's really not a hard thing to do if you're hacking up along and you're
00:56:51stay home just stay home a lot of people are sitting there questioning uh bobby's toughness today
00:56:55that's all i'm saying well bobby's tough it's just that he's he tried he he sent out he did try
00:57:00topics and it looked like he was coming in and then as you said he made the intelligent decision
00:57:04yesterday and i called him after the show and he didn't sound good and i was like dude take another
00:57:08day like it's fine all right like we're not we're not working on the rig man like this isn't that hard
00:57:14of a job you can take a day i had an idea for later pat egan presents one of bob cooney's topics as bob
00:57:22cooney oh so you can look at the sheet figure out and try figure out a topic and you're going to present
00:57:27it but you got to do it from bob's point of view yeah present it the way bob would and uh we'll have
00:57:31that coming up a little bit later on in the show okay okay uh matt gelb joined andrew salchunas yesterday
00:57:39in middays here on 97.5 the fanatic and look everybody's getting a a little anxious about
00:57:47zach wheeler i had a baseball executive from another team yesterday who i'm close with say to me
00:57:57don't worry about the phillies and zach wheeler honestly i wasn't that is exactly what i was told
00:58:05don't worry about the phillies and zach wheeler uh this person is of the 100 percent belief
00:58:13that zach wheeler and the phillies will come to some sort of agreement i wonder what he gets paid
00:58:18that's what i wonder hasan reddick and him were at lunch yesterday yeah right made me concerned hasan
00:58:23flew down to clearwater but i i didn't want to give him that contract when he signed with the with
00:58:27the uh with the phills and i talked about yesterday i didn't like the splits it's one of my my great
00:58:32all-time bad takes and he ends up proving to be the ace yep but at the time that they signed him to
00:58:38that they overpaid because they were paying on potential and they were paying on those splits
00:58:45becoming full seasons luckily it happened and now it's a bargain it goes from being overpaid to a bargain
00:58:51i at this point like he's gonna want market value and market value is very high for an ace pitcher it
00:58:57is so i wonder i wonder ultimately what that contract looks like i mean what did there what
00:59:01didn't only get per year i've i was so mad what i was so mad at the contract was it 20 gosh i'm drawing
00:59:08a blank i will i will rock a bing you can do a bing search on that one i think like 25 24 24 it's
00:59:1724 uh seven years one 172 million all right so maybe i think wheeler's gonna say i think wheeler's
00:59:22going for like 30. i think wheeler's gonna want 30. he's gonna look at it and go i'm tj watt he's
00:59:30the son reddick he he does like i need more than that significantly more disrespectful to compare
00:59:37son reddick to aaron nola 20 20 more 20 more minimum for zach wheeler i think is a good deal
00:59:47and i think that uh but i was told by this baseball executive do not sweat the phillies re-signing
00:59:55him and one of the reasons that was put to me was i believe that stadium in south philly is going to
01:00:01be packed all summer and john middleton money's not an issue john middleton is a guy who has shown you
01:00:10pack the ballpark support his product he's going to spend commensurate with that yeah i meant
01:00:16commensurate with that i i've mentioned it before we have really good owners in the city yes that
01:00:21actually will like invest in the product and it seems like winning matters and if you want to put
01:00:26josh harris you know it's like a question mark with that josh harris realizes that if he wins he
01:00:31makes more money yes but with a guy like john middleton who grew up here that guy wants to win
01:00:37because he has everything so at this point like he just wants trophies to be able to go and brag to
01:00:43his billionaire buddies and i i love it like i love the fact that that he will invest heavily and not be
01:00:51one of these owners and there's a lot of them in major league baseball i think more than any other
01:00:54sport major league baseball is the epidemic of it of owners that go oh my god i'm poor like we've
01:00:58seen it in oakland you're crying poor it's like but i i can see you're you're worth like a billion
01:01:04dollars like you're not poor you're not clipping coupons man you want a stadium you want it for
01:01:09free like that's just you clip coupons anymore do you just put them on your app i i bet you some
01:01:14people still absolutely i mean i get that what you know the newspapers that like you get like the
01:01:18coupon newspapers oh yeah i love those those little deals yeah like i still yeah i still get those
01:01:24well zach wheeler's extension was the topic of discussion between andrew salchunas and matt gelb
01:01:30yesterday you know i think there's a path for them getting a deal you know i know i said the same thing
01:01:35last spring with aaron nolan look i mean they ultimately got there probably eight months later
01:01:39than i think they thought they would but they found you know ground in the middle and they got an
01:01:43extension done and i think they can do something with wheeler this spring i think it could
01:01:47be a shorter term deal uh than the ones that they've signed other you know their other big
01:01:51money contracts have been these long-term deals but wheeler's you know going to be 34 in bay and
01:01:56i think he's interested in the phillies are possibly interested in more of a shorter term one maybe like
01:02:00a three-year deal somewhere around there with a higher annual salary and i mean the guy is it's like
01:02:05one of the best stars in baseball who's going to phillies and um i think it's time to pay him that
01:02:10way and make sure that he doesn't get the free agency he's a huge piece of what they're trying to do here
01:02:14okay interesting interesting comment there to say he thinks a shorter term deal could come a little
01:02:20surprised by that me too i i want him four with a with a mutual option for a fifth i i think he's one
01:02:28of those guys that is doesn't have as much wear and tear and tread on the tires um wear and tear on
01:02:34the tires he's got a decent amount of tread left because while he is 34 years old he did miss
01:02:39significant time with injuries and whatnot and i i think he's he he's still got a lot left where i
01:02:45wouldn't have a problem with giving him four years like i don't think in four years that's going to
01:02:49look too bad but i'd be willing to go for you know the count the counter to that is but would that be
01:02:54the shorter term you like you think matt would talk about their mechel i mean three years to me is
01:02:59short is short term for a guy of his caliber because he's under contract for this year so you'd be
01:03:03talking about his three years after he's 30 he'd be he'd be 38 all right yeah i guess i guess that's
01:03:12fine three-year extension three-year extension which i mean i i'd be fine with that but i do i i do wonder
01:03:18what he talked about the what would wheeler want that a lot of times i think it happened with nola like
01:03:24you took less money right to kind of stay here longer they want the stability and for wheeler i
01:03:31wonder if he would even be open to a three-year deal or if he'd go look i understand you're offering
01:03:35me throwing a number out there 35 million dollars a year thank you very much i would rather have
01:03:42five years at 25 million than 35 million for three years at this point like those guys have made so much
01:03:50money he cashed in his last contract so it's not like he's gonna he's gonna go broke and i think at
01:03:56this point for a guy that has young kids whose wife is from the area like stability matters and
01:04:03you know just being able to call someplace home matters and um yeah he's got and i'm talking when
01:04:10he's got young kids he's got kids that are like under like two years old so if i were him i'd want
01:04:14a longer term deal but i'd also understand that that longer term deal coming at 30 just some of the
01:04:19money a lot of teams aren't gonna want to do that now interesting enough yesterday pat really caught
01:04:25this one as being something that interested him could the phillies be shopping for a fourth
01:04:31outfielder was brought up by rob thompson listen to what matt gelb had to say i think they're still
01:04:36in that market like for you know a fourth outfielder type uh you know somebody just to add to the depth
01:04:41that's because they really are not
