00:00The Welsh Rugby Union are set to offer Steve Tandy the opportunity to become Wales' new
00:07head coach. Wales Online previously reported Tandy was the front-runner for the role, with
00:14Simon Easterby and Franco Smith also shortlisted. Tandy, currently Scotland's defence coach,
00:20is now expected to be offered the position as Warren Gatlin's long-term successor. However,
00:27Tandy is unlikely to be in place for the summer tour of Japan. Cardiff boss Matt Sherratt and Harley
00:32Quinn's head coach Danny Wilson are expected to take interim charge for the two-test series.
00:39Tandy was head coach of the Ospreys from 2012 to 2018 before a stint in Australia with the
00:45Wurthans. He later joined Scotland as defensive coach in 2019 and has helped transform their
00:52defence into one of the most respected in international rugby.
00:57The 45-year-old also featured on Gatlin's coaching staff during the 2021 British and
01:02Irish Lions Tour of South Africa. If he accepts the WRU's offer, he is expected to bring in
01:08Sherratt as attacking coach. Wilson and Ospreys assistant Duncan Jones are among the favourites
01:14to lead the forwards, while Adam Jones is also being considered for a permanent role as scrum coach,
01:20having recently fulfilled the position secondary to Harley Quinn's.
01:26Get the next couple of appointments right and then trying to build a base for the game. But it's
01:32easy, it's always easy to look at the top of the pyramid, the national team and the regions. But
01:38any good team, it starts with the grassroots and the foundations of the academy. And that's what needs to be better.
01:47Turning around, Welsh Rugby's fortunes will be a significant challenge with the national side
01:53enduring a record 17-match losing streak and consecutive wooden spoons in the Six Nations.
01:59The Tour of Japan is seen as a crucial starting point. If Tandy is not released from his contract in
02:07time, Sherratt and Wilson will lead Wales as preparations for a new era once again begin.
