00:00It is a second batch of a three-tranche weapons package that fills out a major checkbox in the AFP's modernization scheme

00:08with yet another set of the fastest supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles

00:14that will provide the Philippine Navy much-needed firepower and counter-attack capabilities within the country's exclusive economic zone.

00:22And as our Patrick de Jesus reports, this as the country patiently awaits the U.S. Congress to greenlight and consummate the deal

00:31that would let the AFP acquire over a dozen F-16 fighter jets in the amount of over a little over $5.5 billion.

00:42Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. himself confirmed that a new delivery of BrahMos missiles from India is on its way to the Philippines.

00:51According to the official, preparations are underway as to where the additional missiles will be stationed.

01:07The said supersonic cruise missile has a range of 290 to 400 kilometers and can be launched from land, ships, or submarines.

01:17In April of last year, the first batch of BrahMos missiles arrived in the country,

01:22with government eyeing to purchase three batteries under an agreement signed by India and the Philippines in 2022 worth P18.9 billion.

01:32The BrahMos missiles are also expected to be part of Balikatan exercises 2025 alongside the Nemesis missile system deployed by the U.S. to the Philippines.

01:42The Armed Forces of the Philippines has recently acquired the BrahMos, Coastal Defense Cruise Missile System,

01:48and the Nemesis is a similar capability.

01:51So as we're working to ensure our interoperability, I think it's natural that we would bring a light capability

01:56to exercise alongside the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

01:59I agree because we are also looking at the capabilities that we do not have, we did not have before.

02:07So with the presence of the Nemesis, we are also intending to train that in conjunction with the BrahMos,

02:14with our BrahMos system.

02:17These are capabilities that will expand our reach beyond our territorial waters.

02:23Meanwhile, it's not the Philippines but the Chinese government that should be blamed for alleged xenophobia according to Teodoro.

02:32This amid continued harassment by Chinese ships in the West Philippine Sea

02:36and their comments against the Philippines' steps to strengthen its defense.

02:49na nanira ng goodwill at anumang trust and confidence na dapat meron ang mga tao sa China

03:03Teodoro also expressed doubts over the arrest of three Filipinos in China over alleged espionage.

03:09Teodoro fired back.
