00:00Hello hockey fans and welcome to NHL Draft Pros.
00:06In this video we're going to break down Caleb Desnoyers hockey game and go through some clips and highlights and see what makes him one of the top prospects for the 2025 NHL Draft class.
00:20And if you want to see some scouting reports on some of these other prospects head over to NHL Draft Pros on YouTube or just hit the logo so you can get to our homepage.
00:27And please hit that subscribe and like button. I'd really appreciate it. We're heading to 12,000 subscribers so help me reach that goal. That would really be cool. Thank you.
00:38Alright Caleb Desnoyers he is 6'2", 178 pounds. He's a left-handed center man.
00:44And in terms of his rankings NHL Central Scouting has him as the 7th best players in North America.
00:50McKeens has him at 6, TSM Bob McKenzie 6, Elite Prospects 9, and the Hockey News at number 7.
00:58Now in terms of points, this year he had 84 points in 56 games. Really, really good.
01:0535 goals, 49 assists. I'd consider him more of a playmaker than a goal scorer but decent dual threat right there.
01:12And if we look at the top CHL, the entire CHL, points per game for the draft class, he is at number 4 behind Michael Misa, Martone, and Kendall.
01:24So not too shabby. 1.5 points per game for his draft season. Really good.
01:31Alright, and now we're going to take a look at his skating, his shooting, his passing, his puck control, his compete level, and what he needs to improve upon.
01:39So the first thing is his skating. And you'll see that Caleb Denoyer is a really good skater.
01:43He's got that nice acceleration. Watch this one here. Boom! He's gone. He's gone.
01:48And then makes a nice little goal here. But yeah, he definitely can maneuver around the ice.
01:54Now, his top-end speed isn't the greatest. And I'll explain why in a couple of clips.
02:01But in terms of overall mechanics and whatnot, pretty decent.
02:05You'll see here, actually him kind of skating. And right here, you're going to see he's got that wide stance.
02:11So his recovery is not the best, I guess you could say. So he loses a little bit of energy there.
02:17But when he gets moving, you know, for a big kid, and we've got to remember, he's kind of still slight.
02:24He's only 178 pounds at 6'2". So he's just got to get a little bit stronger, get a little bit more strength, work on the skating a little bit more.
02:31But I mean, you know, overall, a good skater. Just doesn't have that separation speed yet.
02:37But I think there's another level that he can reach.
02:39All right, shooting is the next component. And yes, he can wire a puck. Boom!
02:48Woo! Look at that shot. Come on, Caleb.
02:53Like I said, he had 36 goals this year. And yeah, he can shoot a puck.
02:56Now, the thing with Denoyer is that a lot of his goals, the majority of his goals, were not shots like this.
03:04They were in and around the net, picking up rebounds, crashing a net, little side goals off the side of the goal mouth and whatnot.
03:12But I mean, he does have a nice shot. Like, check this out.
03:17And his shot selection is a little bit questionable, too.
03:21But for the most part, he can shoot a puck when he wants to, as is evident in these clips.
03:28And I just love watching clips of goal scorers.
03:32So, here's the one-timer. You got to let this one go. Boom!
03:35Just a quick release right there from the pass. So, you'd like to see that.
03:40Beat the goalie cleanly there. Really nice goal right there.
03:44And then same thing with this one.
03:46Now, this one here, I want to show because he passes it off, but he stays open.
03:51He stays open. So, he had the smarts to, you know, not give up on the play and leave himself open as a passing option.
03:58And then what happened was he got the return pass. So, hockey IQ is pretty high up there.
04:02We're going to talk about that later on, too. Actually, right now with the passing.
04:06So, yeah, you know what? He's a playmaker. Really, really good playmaker.
04:10Sees the ice well. Watch this one.
04:12Like, come on. The goalie. Look at the goalie. See how far the goalie was out?
04:15The goalie anticipated that he was going to shoot. Big mistake.
04:19Caleb Dinoye said, no, no, no. I'm making it look like I'm shooting.
04:22But look at that. Wide open cage for his teammate. Watch this.
04:25Like, come on. So, yeah, you know, the one thing with Dinoye is he sees the ice really well.
04:32He creates time and space, I guess you could say, is the big thing, right?
04:36His ability to read the ice. And this is another great pass.
04:39Like, watch this. Just waits at the perfect.
04:42Again, the goalie was completely out of the net.
04:45Like, totally just waited that extra little second.
04:49That extra little second. And when you have a player that can read the ice really well, he's going to be a good playmaker.
04:57And this one here is another nice pass. He waited until a lane opened up, creating that time and space.
05:02And so, you know, he does that very well.
05:05He'll be a good complementary player on a line where he can, you know, set up teammates who are, you know, better shooters.
05:14Like, this is a great. Come on. There's three guys on that guy. And he found the seam.
05:19Now, this one here is the one I want to show in terms of creating time and space.
05:23He just waits, waits, waits. And then he finds that guy in the slot. Like, come on.
05:30That is unreal. And he's got a guy draped all over him.
05:33And he still found his teammate. And that's unreal.
05:38Hockey IQ. Really, really good.
05:41Puck control. Kid's got some hands.
05:42You know, I wouldn't consider him, like, one of the top.
05:45Well, you know, a really good stick handler. Let's put it that way.
05:48He's not the top in this draft, but he's pretty up high there.
05:52When he gets moving and, you know, he sees it, like, again, and I think that has to do with his hockey IQ.
05:57Creating time and space and just reading, you know, the opposition.
06:02And he does that really well.
06:03This one here, you're going to see just a nice little maneuver there.
06:07And then he finds his teammate in the slot and they score.
06:09So, yeah, he's got the hands, too.
06:13And it helps when you have really good puck control and stick handling as a playmaker.
06:19Because it helps you to kind of, you know, get into those lanes, those spaces where you can set up a player, a teammate in scoring chances.
06:28And that's exactly what he does.
06:30And this one here, you're going to see a blocked shot.
06:32He's going to take it down the ice.
06:33And this one here, creating time and space, like, look at this, look at this.
06:38That is something where he extended the possession.
06:44He extended the possession.
06:45He waited and waited and waited until that last opportunity to dish it off.
06:49And then a little deke action.
06:51Yeah, I had to include that in here.
06:53Breakaways.
06:55He's got some magic on the breakaways.
06:57Check this out.
06:58A little back end.
06:59Whoa.
06:59Whoa.
07:01That's a nice little finish there, Caleb.
07:04Nicely done.
07:06All right.
07:07Next component.
07:08Compete.
07:10Yeah, you know what?
07:11He's a decent little worker, I have to admit.
07:14Like, this one here, look at this.
07:15Pushes him off the puck.
07:16And then that smarts to find his teammate.
07:20And they end up scoring because of it.
07:21So, you know, I wouldn't consider him a really physical player.
07:25But right here, he's going to good battle along the boards.
07:29And then he gets, you know, kind of knocked around a little bit.
07:31But he doesn't give up on the play.
07:33And you like to see that.
07:34Takes a run at that guy.
07:36And then comes over here and wins the puck right there and then drops it back to teammates.
07:42You know what?
07:43Compete's not bad.
07:44Like, it's a little bit more.
07:45He's got to get a little stronger.
07:47You know, that's a nice little hit right there.
07:49He's got to get a little bit stronger.
07:50He doesn't give up on this one.
07:52You know, sticks with the player there.
07:54Kind of harasses him.
07:55So, compete's not bad.
07:56But, all right, some things that he needs to improve upon.
07:58Sometimes, defensively, you know, a little puck watching.
08:03And this one here, you're going to see kind of he's following the puck a little bit.
08:06Leaves one guy open and that guy ends up scoring.
08:09So, just, you know, little brain farts, I guess you could say.
08:13Nothing major.
08:14Same thing here.
08:15You're going to see the back check is a little iffy.
08:18And he's at the top now.
08:19And then his coverage is blown and that guy scores.
08:24And then here, this is just a little bit of a weak chip in.
08:31And then the back check is a little weak too.
08:34So, little things.
08:36And then here, you're going to see that physicality.
08:38So, this guy just pushes him off the puck easy.
08:41And the other team gets the puck back.
08:44So, again, just got to work on his strength a little bit.
08:46Same thing here.
08:47You're going to see he just can't stay with the guy.
08:52And then they lose a puck.
08:53So, overall, though, I mean, I'm a big fan of Caleb Dinway.
08:57I love his game overall.
08:58He's a really good two-way player.
09:00So, that's one of his strengths.
09:01Hockey IQ.
09:02Like, come on.
09:03The way he sees the ice, reads the plays really well.
09:06There are some times, you know, if he's pressured a little bit too much.
09:08But he's young.
09:09You know, he's one of the younger team on Moncton.
09:11And he's, you know, assistant captain.
09:13And he plays really well.
09:15And his playmaking.
09:16Like, the way he sees that ice.
09:18His, you know, ability to read the ice, create time and space is very impressive for a young player.
09:23He's only, you know, 17.
09:25And then what he needs to work on.
09:27Little things.
09:28Strength.
09:29He's got to get a little bit stronger.
09:30And that will help with his physicality.
09:32Shooting.
09:33His shot selection has got to be a little bit better.
09:36But, I mean, he's got a really good shot.
09:37Don't get me wrong.
09:38I just, he's got to find those open lanes and know when to, you know, press it on net and when not.
09:43And then the skating.
09:44Just develop a little bit faster in terms of his linear speed.
09:48Get a little bit faster that way.
09:50His acceleration is really good.
09:52So, you know, little things that he needs to work on.
09:54In my opinion, he's a top 10 pick in this draft for sure.
09:57I mean, you know, he could be flirting with top five.
10:00Depending on how the lottery goes.
10:01But, yeah, overall game.
10:03Great player.
10:04Caleb DeNuye.
10:05That's my take on him.
10:07And like I've said before, please help the channel grow.
10:10Hit that subscribe and like button.
10:11I'd really appreciate it.
10:12And we'll see you soon.
10:13Cheers.
