01:00My books are largely connected in a universe I call the Cosmere.
01:05This came about because of a couple of reasons.
01:08It's hard to look back 30, 40 years and figure out what I was thinking when I started to devise this.
01:17But I love a big, cool epic.
01:21It's my deepest first love.
01:24And as I started to work on my books, I thought, I want to do a big epic, but I have to hide it.
01:30And I started layering all of these things together and it became the Cosmere.
01:35Really built around three planets.
01:38Built around Cell, where Elantra was taking place, the first book that I released.
01:44Gadriel, built around the Mistborn series, which I already had written a draft of.
01:50and Roshar, where I'd already written The Way of Kings Prime.
01:55And I brought these three worlds together and created an intricate, interconnected backstory.
02:01It all kind of comes to a head here, where this setting that I once imagined as an RPG,
02:07instead has become my own RPG.
02:08That is now a launching pad to the entire Cosmere and the RPGs we're going to be making.
02:18I always thought the Roshar would work really well for an RPG.
02:23The standard ones, the famous ones, they cover the Tolkien-esque worlds.
02:29But Roshar is a world built out of conflict.
02:35Nature versus humankind with the storms.
02:37It is a place that I designed to be visually interesting and interesting.
02:42That you feel like you're going to an alien planet in alien ecology.
02:45New plants, animals, and stories that can be told that aren't really possible
02:51in your standard elf and dwarf go on a quest together
02:54and learn to put aside their differences in facing a common foe.
02:57Not that I mind those stories.
02:59I've done RPGs and played those stories.
03:01But in Roshar, I want to offer something different.
03:04This is a tool for you to be able to do what I get to do every day.
03:09And that is, have fun and play in Roshar.
03:14Pick up a Shardblade, cut a rock in half, and try not to cut your toes off.
03:19When we sat down to do this, one of the big decisions we had to make was
03:28how canonical was this game system going to be?
03:33This is because making a game in World Book that doubles as basically just a canon encyclopedia
03:41to the setting is ten times more difficult.
03:46We made the challenge to ourselves to make the entire RPG, both Player's Guide and World Book,
03:54canon to the Stormlight Archive.
03:56The other really fun thing I think you're going to enjoy is we sat down, Dan Wells and I,
04:03and Dan said, we want to include an adventure as part of the RPG.
04:10You know, an intro adventure.
04:12This is very common in RPGs.
04:13A lot of times those adventures feel a little bit kind of like an afterthought.
04:17We didn't want that.
04:18We wanted something that was not only canonical,
04:21but would fill in a big hole in some of the continuity of the narrative.
04:28And we figured out something that I had never found a chance to really write
04:32that actually relates to Stormlight 5's continuity in a pretty important way.
04:36And you get to play the people who were involved in that.
04:40The campaign is called Stonewalkers.
04:42And I'm not going to tell you anything more about it other than that.
04:46But it will introduce you to how to play with this.
04:49And Dan and I wrote this thing.
04:52And it is canon, though your players are allowed to make choices
04:56that won't actually be canon because I won't know about them.
05:03It's been a little bit hard to keep secret the fact
05:05that this is going to actually be a Cosmere RPG
05:08and not just a Stormlight RPG.
05:10For about two years, we've known that we were going to do this.
05:13But, you know, I like a good reveal.
05:15So, here's to the fact that we will have some more books coming
05:20for all the major planets in the Cosmere.
05:23And that is our plan.
05:24Our plan is for this to be a long-term endeavor.
05:27For this to be getting support.
05:30As long as I am writing new books in the Cosmere,
05:34that we are supporting this RPG.
05:36And so, we're in it for the long haul.
05:38We hope that you'll be in it for the long haul.
05:40And that we'll be able to keep your excitement
05:44and to be worthy of your trust
05:47as we build this out from Roshar
05:50into all the planets of the Cosmere.
