AccuWeather Severe Weather Expert Guy Pearson warns of severe storms barreling through the central U.S. from late Sunday to Monday afternoon as they produce high winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.
Transcript
00:00Guy, what we're going to do is let's take the next three days with this storm,
00:05talk about the challenges of forecasting the severe weather,
00:08and certainly what we're looking at as far as some of the impacts.
00:12We begin with some severe weather from Minnesota back toward the Dakotas late Sunday and Sunday night.
00:22Yep. Good morning. Yep.
00:24Certainly with the first piece of energy here, this is really where, you know,
00:27you talked about the high pressure moving off to the south and the east there.
00:32Well, we've got to get that return of moisture as well as heat.
00:35And so as the first piece of energy here really starts to kick out on Sunday,
00:40we are looking at, you know, better conditions here of more moisture, more heat.
00:44And so certainly looking at some damaging hail, gusty winds,
00:49some local flash flooding across this area here as we've got multiple modes
00:54and certainly different pieces of environmental conditions that are kicking in here
01:00and everything that we have for Sunday, you know, winds of 60 to 70 as far,
01:06and with that Accuweather local storm max of 85.
01:09Now, Monday's the day, though.
01:11We've been highlighting this all week,
01:12and we upgraded to a moderate risk from Minneapolis toward Kansas City yesterday.
01:19Guy, what are you seeing this day?
01:21Yep, certainly we have the better piece of energy that really starts to kick out Monday
01:29and then especially Monday evening.
01:31We get all that warmth back in place.
01:35And, you know, the surface low with this, the one thing I was noticing,
01:38the surface low with this is actually pretty far,
01:40could be pretty far north into southern Minnesota.
01:42So we do want to be careful.
01:44This will be a little bit farther north.
01:46We're starting to get, you know, towards May here, of course,
01:50and so some of that severe weather does try to creep a little bit farther north
01:53with the changing weather patterns.
01:55And so, you know, I think with the energy, the heat, the moisture that's going to be back in place,
02:01you know, that moderate area that we have outlooked is a really good area
02:04as far as the area that's going to be most concerning, at least at this point in time.
02:10Just really quickly, Guy, a little less in the way of severe weather on Tuesday.
02:14Yep, on Tuesday, the whole front drags a little bit farther south.
02:21The main system itself starts to eject out northeast,
02:24and so it's really the leftovers of, you know, the piece of energy kicking out.
02:29So there is, will still be a risk of some severe weather across this area,
02:33but not to the degree of what we were, what we'll likely see on Monday.
