00:15The Bangsamoro government on Tuesday, April 22, expressed its solidarity with the Roman Catholic community

00:22in the region following the death of Pope Francis.

00:26Interim Chief Minister Abdul Raoaf Makakuwa said in a statement that the Bangsamoro government

00:32stands in solidarity with the Roman Catholics as he reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a society

00:39where peace and mutual respect are the cornerstones of the Bangsamoro.

00:43Makakuwa stated that the news of Pope Francis' passing has brought profound sadness and grief

00:49not only to the country but also to the entire world, as he was a symbol of hope

00:54and relentless advocate for peace, justice, and interfaith dialogue.

00:59Makakuwa also emphasized that Pope Francis served as a source of moral clarity,

01:04continuously urging world leaders to turn away from war and to pursue peaceful resolutions instead,

01:10as evident with his persistent and heartfelt appeals for peace in the Middle East,

01:14especially in the face of atrocities in Palestine.

01:17On Easter Monday, April 21, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis passed away peacefully

01:23at his residence in the Casa Santa Marta, Vatican City.

01:28He was 88.

01:29The Pope, whose birth name is George Mario Bergoglio, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

01:34He chose the papal name Pope Francis in honor of St. Francis of Assisi,

01:39who inspired him to embrace a life of poverty.

01:41The Vatican also announced on Tuesday, April 22, that the Pope will be laid to rest

01:47at the Basilica of St. Major on Saturday morning, April 26.

01:52The St. Mary Major Basilica, also referred to as the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore,

01:57is the largest Marian church in Rome, Italy, where the Pope is said to visit frequently

02:02due to his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
