00:00The Giants just traded back into the first round to draft Ole Miss quarterback Jackson Dart.
00:05I am really not a fan of this pick.
00:06I strongly believe that the next regime that's going to come in,
00:10the new general manager and head coach,
00:12they could be picking another quarterback next year.
00:14But here we are, Joe Shane, Brian Dayball, they get their guy.
00:19Hopefully they can do something with him this season.
00:22I mean, well, here's the thing, though.
00:24It is such a strange pick,
00:26especially to trade back into the first round to make it,
00:29because the ideology that you set off this offseason was,
00:33we are, as a head coach of Brian Dayball, as a general manager in Joe Shane,
00:36you are on the hot seats entering 2025.
00:39If you do not have a good season, you are probably going to be out of your job.
00:42So what did they do, Joe?
00:44They went the free agent routes, right?
00:46Let's bring in Russell Wilson.
00:47He raises the floor of the room.
00:48Let's bring in Jameis Winston.
00:50He raises the floor of our room.
00:51Cool.
00:52Let's move into the future and hopefully preserve our jobs.
00:54I don't understand mortgaging draft capital,
00:57trade him back to take a quarterback in the first round,
01:00who, honestly, you may never play this season, right?
01:05And this is a team in the New York Giants that has holes, right?
01:09Like, they have needs at right tackle.
01:12They have needs on the defensive side of the football.
01:15You did some...
01:17I mean, you drafted Abdul Carter, who's a tremendous football player, obviously.
01:20That's one need that is fulfilled in this draft so far.
01:24But I just think you had too many needs on the board, cornerback, offensive line.
01:30There was just so many spots, secondary wide receiver.
01:32There were so many spots that you could have went that would have made more sense
01:35than drafting a potential second to third string quarterback in year one
01:39when you are a head coach and a general manager bad season away from not having a job anymore.
01:45It's a very, very puzzling decision, to say the least.
01:48Will Johnson was still on the board.
01:50Jahai Campbell was still on the board.
01:52They need linebackers, they need corners, Malachi Starks was still on the board.
01:56Yeah, they weren't going to go with James Pierce, but Malachi Starks was still on the board.
01:59Nick Aminwari was still on the board.
02:01I don't know if those guys directly would have been true fits in the secondary,
02:04but just getting good football players.
02:06Josh Simmons is still on the board, who you could have moved to right tackle.
02:10There were so many different directions that would have made sense for competing at the current moment.
02:15I felt like that the minute that you signed Russell Wilson
02:18and that you passed on Shador Sanders as early as they did,
02:21that the quarterback move was not on the table.
02:24Jackson Dart, they could have selected in the second round.
02:26That's the thing that pisses me off the most about this pick for a Giants fan
02:30hoping this team was going to right the ship.
02:32Dart is an incredibly low-ceiling prospect.
02:36He does not have the requisite arm strength,
02:39nor is he a decisive enough decision maker to go on and become a high-level starter.
02:43At the very most, you are going to have an Andy Dalton-type prospect.
02:49And the Bengals, what held them back with Andy Dalton
02:51is that he was not dynamic enough of a playmaker
02:54for them to ever get past the wild-card round.
02:56If the Giants hit their potential with Jackson Dart,
02:59they will just be in and out of the wild-card round
03:01like they've been since they got to the Super Bowl back in the early 2010s.
03:06That is the last time that they were able to make it there,
03:09and they're not going to get anywhere near close to it with Jackson Dart at quarterback.
03:13I'm giving this a D, man.
03:15This doesn't make any sense.
03:17You waste draft capital to trade back in.
03:19There were other needs that were available to you on the board
03:21that you could have selected.
03:22This is not going to pay any positive dividends.
03:25For people that don't know, Joe is a Giants fan,
03:28so he's taking this one a little bit rough, to say the least.
03:31I have kept my composure very well.
03:33You have. You did very well.
03:35I would also give it a D.
03:36I do believe that this is a puzzling fit from just a where the Giants are perspective
03:44and where Jackson Dart is perspective, right?
03:46Like, long-term, is the regime even going to be here?
03:50So, like, that is weird.
03:51I also just don't think, generally speaking, that Jackson Dart is a first-round quarterback.
03:55Obviously, he got drafted there, so I guess technically he is a first-round quarterback,
03:58but a first-round quarterback talent, I don't necessarily see that.
04:01I like the athleticism, like you said.
04:03I think he's got a fine frame.
04:05He's nails in the pocket, but the lack of just general arm strength and arm talent,
04:10I think, is below average, or at least average, at best, for NFL standards.
04:14I don't think that's a kid that you go back into the first round to potentially grab.
04:18So, time will tell how right we are about this one,
04:20but I just struggle with the fit and why it made sense at this juncture in the draft.
