Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced reforms to the Pentagon's equal opportunity complaint systems.
Transcript
00:00We're back with more reforms here at DOD, and this one is one of the most important ones we've done.
00:06The official title is Restoring Good Order and Discipline Through Balanced Accountability.
00:12A little wordy, but over the target.
00:14The real title that I call it, the No More Walking on Eggshells Policy.
00:21You see, too often at the Defense Department, there are complaints made for certain reasons that can't be verified
00:26that end people's career, either through EO or the IG.
00:31We need to reform that process completely so commanders can be commanders.
00:35Let me explain it a little bit more.
00:37So the DOD has equal opportunity programs for service members and civilians to report discrimination and harassment.
00:43That's a good thing.
00:44But what's not good is when these programs are weaponized.
00:48Some individuals use these programs in bad faith to retaliate against superiors or peers.
00:54I hear it all the time.
00:55Say you receive a bad evaluation.
00:58Well, file a military EO complaint.
01:01It's nonsense, and we want to fix that.
01:03That's why today I'm signing a memo entitled, as I said, Restoring Good Order and Discipline Through Balanced Accountability.
01:10It directs a comprehensive review of equal opportunity programs to ensure prompt and impartial investigations,
01:17prompt and impartial, fair treatment to all parties involved, and timely, timely and appropriate resolution of allegations of discrimination.
01:26So here's the goal.
01:28Empower leaders to make tough decisions, enforce standards, and restore good order and discipline.
01:36Otherwise known as no more walking on eggshells.
01:41This is an important one.
01:42Proud to sign it.
