Yeah, this was my favourite "Scary" episode of a TV Show.

From PBS, it was "Halloween-ish", although they did an "official" Halloween Special in October 12th, 1991, and this one had the best TTTEAF EPisode with Thomas and Percy in it, adapted from a story from Tramway Engines (Swingin'70s, after funk, before Disco!!!)

...And I met Brian, who was Schemer; - watch, he tries to make kids, scared/brainwashed and get them hooked, on giving their money, games, trinkets that cost Nickels, but at least he's not a Kandi Kid or Drug Seller, like that Fat Nanny Guinea Dyke from Stratford.

00:00Reach for the speed, reach for the whistle, go where the rail may run.
00:13Reach for the words, reach for the story, follow the rainbow sun.
00:19To a shining time station, where dreams can come true, waiting there for you.
00:35That should do it.
00:38I'm going to explain how the pulley system works for the overnight mail.
00:42Would you give me that mail sack, please?
00:45Harry, I'm sure your pulley system works, but I'm still going to have to spend the night here.
00:50Wait and see how it works before you decide.
00:53Now, we're going to pretend this bag is full of mail, fat and heavy.
00:58Now, the midnight special is going to come roaring through.
01:02It's going to hold out its mail and...
01:10I'll hook. We'll pick it up and put it on this line.
01:13We'll go along here and go out there.
01:17To be picked up by the Daybreak Express.
01:22With all the work is done for you, you don't have to spend the night here.
01:27Are you really going to spend the night here, Stacy?
01:30Wow, that's neat. You never did that before.
01:33Where will you sleep?
01:34In my sleeping bag.
01:36I keep telling you, Stacy, you don't have to spend the night.
01:41My pulley system will switch the mail for you.
01:44You don't have to be here. It's all automatic.
01:47What if the mail gets stuck in the middle?
01:50Oh, I know. I know it probably won't.
01:51But what if it does?
01:52I want Shining Time to be the most dependable station on the line.
01:56So, I'm going to stay.
01:58Well, if you're going to stay, I'll stay with you.
02:02I can't leave you here by yourself.
02:04Are you going to sleep in pajamas?
02:09Pajamas? No.
02:10I think I'll sleep in my clothes and then change in the morning.
02:13You get to sleep in your clothes?
02:16I still have to brush my teeth and wash my face.
02:19Yes, but you get to sleep in your clothes.
02:24I better go find my sleeping bag.
02:26I'll see you kids later.
02:29Would you like to sleep here?
02:31I don't know.
02:32Do you think it would be scary?
02:35You mean like ghosts and stuff?
02:38No, I'm not afraid of ghosts.
02:40Are you afraid of ghosts?
02:41Um, I...
02:42I...
02:43I...
02:44Oh...
02:45Oh...
02:46Oh...
02:50Oh...
02:55Oh...
02:56Oh...
02:57Oh...
02:58Oh...
02:59Oh...
03:00I found this in the lounge car on the express to Twiddley Junction.
03:06Some poor fellow must have forgotten it.
03:08Hello, you two.
03:10Horatius, you both look like you've seen a ghost.
03:13I knew it was Mr. Conductor.
03:15Um, me too.
03:16Mr. Conductor.
03:18Who else?
03:19Of course it's me.
03:21Who did you think it was?
03:22Oh, I see.
03:23You saw that hat floating along,
03:25and you thought, dearie me, spooky-wookie.
03:29No, no.
03:30Uh-uh-uh.
03:31Well, it would scare the dickens out of me
03:34if I saw a hat floating around the room.
03:37Really?
03:37I'd be leaping in the air and screaming my head off.
03:41I-I was a little scared.
03:44Me, too.
03:45Just a little?
03:47I was pretty scared.
03:50It was scary.
03:52I was about to scream.
03:54I was gonna run for the door.
03:57Really?
03:58Well, you both certainly acted brave.
04:01You know what they always say,
04:02fuzzy things are hairy,
04:04but spooky things are scary.
04:06Which reminds me of a story,
04:08a scary joke that Percy played on Thomas.
04:11Come along, and I'll tell you all about it.
04:29And every year, on the date of the accident,
04:33it runs again as a warning to others,
04:36plunging into the gap,
04:38shrieking like a lost soul.
04:41Percy, what are you talking about?
04:44The ghost train.
04:46Driver saw it last night.
04:48Were, asked Thomas and Toby.
04:50He didn't say.
04:51Oh, it makes my wheels wobble to think of it.
04:54Ha! said Thomas.
04:56You're just a silly little engine.
04:58I'm not scared.
05:00Whee!
05:00Whee!
05:01Whee!
05:01Whee!
05:02Whee!
05:03Whee!
05:04Whee!
05:05Thomas didn't believe in your ghost,
05:07said Percy next morning.
05:08His driver laughed.
05:10Neither do I.
05:11It was only a pretend ghost story.
05:14Percy was disappointed.
05:17That evening, he came back from the harbour.
05:21Whee!
05:22Whee!
05:22Whee!
05:23Whee!
05:23Whee!
05:24Whee!
05:24Whee!
05:25Whee!
05:25Percy knew where he was, even in the dark.
05:29Crow's Farm crossing.
05:30We shan't be long now.
05:36He liked running at night.
05:39Rails hung and the signal lights shone green.
05:44But a broken cartload of lime lay ahead.
05:48Sam the farmer had just gone for help.
05:50Percy broke the cart to smithereens.
06:00Lime flew everywhere.
06:03He puffed quickly to the nearest signal box.
06:09Percy's driver explained what had happened.
06:12I'll see to it, said the signalman.
06:14But you'd better clean Percy, or people will think he's a ghost.
06:18Percy chuckled.
06:21Do let's pretend I'm a ghost and scare Thomas.
06:24That'll teach him to say I'm a silly little engine.
06:28Toby promised to help.
06:44Thomas was being oarsed up for his evening train.
06:48Percy's had an accident, cried Toby.
06:50Poor engine, said Thomas.
06:53Botheration.
06:54That means I'll be late.
06:56They've cleared the line for you, but there's something worse.
07:00Out with it, Toby.
07:02I can't wait all evening.
07:03I've just seen something, said Toby.
07:06It looked like Percy's ghost.
07:09It said it was coming here to warn us.
07:12Huh, who cares?
07:15Don't be frightened, Toby.
07:16I'll take care of you.
07:18Peep, peep, peep, peep, peep, peep.
07:29Let me in.
07:31Let me in.
07:33Wailed Percy.
07:34No, no.
07:35Not by the smoke of my chimney, chimney, chimney.
07:39I'll chuff and I'll puff.
07:41And I'll break your door in.
07:44Oh, dear, exclaimed Thomas.
07:50It's getting late.
07:52Oh, I'd no idea.
07:53Oh, I must find Annie and Clarabel.
07:58It was morning when Thomas returned.
08:02Where have you been, asked Toby.
08:04Ah, well, said Thomas.
08:06I knew you'd be sad about Percy.
08:09And I, er, I didn't like to intrude.
08:11I slept in the freight shed and...
08:13Oh, sorry.
08:18Can't stop.
08:19Got to see a coach about to train.
08:25Percy was none the worse for his adventure
08:28and was still enjoying himself enormously.
08:31He had heard everything.
08:33Well, well, well.
08:34What do you know about that?
08:37Anyone would think, chuckled Toby,
08:39that our Thomas had just seen a ghost.
08:45I think Thomas was silly to imagine
08:47that Percy was really a ghost.
08:50Our imaginations usually fill up more at night
08:52than they do in the daytime.
08:54And Thomas has certainly did that night.
08:57Do you ever spend the night here, Mr. Conductor?
08:59When I'm not out traveling in far-off lands,
09:02I sleep in my bunk bed right inside the switch house.
09:05Do you sleep in your clothes?
09:07Goodness, no.
09:09I have a lovely pair of brand-new pajamas
09:11that have choo-choo trains all over them.
09:14Which reminds me, I must take them out of the dryer.
09:17I really love them when they're still warm.
09:20I'll see you later.
09:22Hats off to you.
09:24Mr. Conductor sleeps here.
09:27Aunt Stacey and Harry are going to sleep here.
09:29Let's ask if we can sleep here.
09:30Yeah.
09:32And Stacey and Stacey, can we sleep here, too?
09:35Please, please, can we say yes and?
09:37You want to sleep here at the station?
09:39Yes, yes, please, can we?
09:40Oh, I don't know.
09:41Oh, please, you'll be sleeping here.
09:43Grandpa will be sleeping here.
09:44Come on, it'll be fun.
09:46Well, I'll tell you what.
09:47If it's okay with your parents,
09:48I guess it's okay with me, too.
09:50Yay!
09:50Wait a minute, wait a minute.
09:51That's not a yes yet.
09:54Stacey Jones?
09:55Oh, hi, how are you?
09:59Wendy.
10:00Wendy Brackman.
10:01Kids, come over here and say hello to Wendy.
10:03Wendy, this is Matt and Tanya.
10:05Hi, Matt and Tanya.
10:06Are you a magician or something?
10:08Well, sometimes I feel like one.
10:11Oh, well, Wendy's an old friend of mine,
10:13and she has a wonderful talent.
10:15She can make anything out of paper.
10:18Including hats.
10:19But I love making masks.
10:21Oh, would you show the kids?
10:22Of course.
10:23Listen, I'll go call your parents
10:24and see if you can spend the night.
10:26Oh, thank you, thank you.
10:28Let's see, what kind of masks should we make?
10:31Scary masks.
10:32Yeah.
10:34Oh, that's a scary one.
10:37Want to see another scary one?
10:38Yeah.
10:39Yeah, watch this.
10:42I wonder if you can guess it
10:43while I'm cutting it out.
10:46Let's see.
10:51Anything?
10:51Here we go, cut number two.
10:54Cut number three.
10:57Here we go.
10:59Face?
11:00Yes, what kind of a face?
11:01A very scary face.
11:03Chilling to the bone.
11:05That's a clue.
11:07Let's finish up.
11:08A scary eye.
11:11And almost done.
11:14Oh, look at that.
11:17Wow, Matt.
11:22Okay, Matt.
11:23Whoops.
11:24There's my train.
11:25Gotta go.
11:26Goodbye, Stacy.
11:27Oh, good to see you, Wendy.
11:29Goodbye, Matt and Tanya.
11:31Bye.
11:32Okay.
11:32Gotta cut out.
11:34Bye.
11:35Bye-bye.
11:37What did our parents say?
11:38What did they say?
11:39Well, they said, yes, you can stay overnight.
11:43Oh, great.
11:44I'll go get you a couple of sleeping bags.
11:46Terrific.
11:46Wait, I can't wait.
11:48And what do you two shorter-than-average people
11:51got to be so happy about?
11:52We're going to spend the night at the station.
11:54You're going to sleep here?
11:56Yeah.
11:56The two of you are going to sleep here?
11:58Yep.
11:58For the entire night?
11:59Yeah.
12:01Aren't you scared?
12:03No.
12:04Scared of what?
12:06Of what?
12:07Of everything.
12:08Of the dark.
12:09Of the boogeyman.
12:11Of the guy with his head on backwards.
12:14What guy with his head on backwards?
12:17The guy who used to scare the living daylights out of me.
12:20That's who the guy with his head on backwards.
12:21Did you ever see him?
12:23Not exactly, no.
12:27I don't think there's a guy with the head on backwards.
12:30I think it's just your imagination.
12:32Oh, yeah?
12:33Yeah.
12:34Come on, let's go outside and play.
12:38Kids nowadays,
12:39they're just not afraid as they should be.
12:44Like I was.
12:48I would be scared to death to sleep here.
12:53Without any lights on.
12:55Without my blankie.
12:58Without my mommy.
13:04I know that this place is haunted.
13:07Why don't they?
13:09Oh, genius time.
13:14Genius time.
13:17Maybe what they need
13:18is something to be afraid of.
13:22You crazy desk.
13:34This place sure looks different that night.
13:52It sure does.
13:56How are you kids doing?
13:58You ready for bed?
13:59We're not sleeping.
14:02I know the feeling.
14:04The railroad never sleeps.
14:07There's somebody doing something all the time.
14:09I used to work nights.
14:20I couldn't sleep.
14:23Not when you're running the overnight train to Pelican Falls.
14:26The signal would be green.
14:31The track straight as a ruler.
14:36And we'd go whizzing through those sleepy old towns.
14:41Giving a tug on the whistle every now and then.
14:44In case a critter was wandered onto the track.
14:49No people around.
14:51They'd all be in their beds.
14:52I used to imagine people loved the sound of that whistle.
14:59Telling them the train was on time.
15:02Males coming through.
15:05And they can sleep sound tonight.
15:08And that's what you two should be doing.
15:11Now, crawl in there.
15:13We're still not sleepy.
15:15Well, just shut your eyes and pretend you are.
15:21I'll be right there in my office.
15:29Did you remember to brush your teeth?
15:31Oh, Mr. Conductor.
15:33Yes, we did.
15:34But we're still not sleepy.
15:37Please tell us a story.
15:38You want a story?
15:40Yes, but not a scary story.
15:43Not a scary story.
15:45Then what about a hairy story?
15:48Well, actually, a woolly story.
15:52Are we all ready?
15:57In the summer, the werecrews cut the long grass along the tracks.
16:03Raking it into heaps to dry in the sun.
16:07At this time of year, Percy stops where they have been cutting.
16:13The men load up his empty wagons, and he pulls them to the station.
16:26Toby then takes them to the hills for the farmers to feed their stock.
16:29Percy gave a ghostly whistle.
16:49Don't be frightened, Thomas, he laughed.
16:52It's only me.
16:54Your ugly fizz is enough to frighten anyone, said Thomas.
16:57You're like ugly indeed.
17:00I am a green caterpillar with red stripes, continued Thomas firmly.
17:05You crawl like one, too.
17:07I don't.
17:08Who's been late every afternoon this week?
17:11It's the hay.
17:12I can't help that, said Thomas.
17:15Time's time, and Sir Topham Hatt relies on me to keep it.
17:19I can't if you crawl in the hay till all hours.
17:22Green caterpillar indeed, fumed Percy.
17:26He set off to collect some hay to take to the harbour.
17:31Everyone says I'm handsome, or at least nearly everyone.
17:34Anyway, my curves are better than Thomas's corners.
17:39Thomas says I'm always late, he grumbled.
17:42I'm never late, or at least only a few minutes.
17:46What's that to Thomas?
17:48He can always catch up time further on.
17:51All the same, he and his driver decided to start home early.
17:55Then came trouble.
17:56A crate of treacle was upset all over Percy.
18:11Percy was cross.
18:14He was still sticky when he puffed away.
18:19The wind was blowing fiercely.
18:22Look at that, exclaimed the driver.
18:25The wind caught the piled hay, tossing it up and over the track.
18:31The lion climbed here.
18:32Take a run at it, Percy, his driver advised.
18:35Percy gathered speed.
18:37But the hay made the rails slippery,
18:40and his wheels wouldn't grip.
18:42Time after time, he stalled with spinning wheels
18:45and had to wait till the line ahead was cleared
18:48before he could start again.
18:53Everyone was waiting.
18:55Thomas seethed impatiently.
18:58Ten minutes late, I warned him,
19:00passengers will complain,
19:02and Sir Topham Hatt.
19:04Then they all saw Percy.
19:05They laughed and shouted.
19:13Sorry I'm late, Percy panted.
19:15Look what's crawled out of the hay, tears, Thomas.
19:20What's wrong, asked Percy.
19:22Talk about hairy caterpillars, puffed Thomas.
19:25It's worth being late to have seen you.
19:27When Percy got home, his driver showed him
19:37what he looked like in a mirror.
19:41Must, my buffers!
19:42No wonder they all laughed.
19:45I'm just like a woolly bear.
19:47Please clean me before Toby comes.
19:49But it was no good.
19:52Thomas told Toby all about it.
19:54Instead of talking about sensible things like playing ghosts,
20:10Thomas and Toby made jokes about woolly bear caterpillars
20:14and other creatures which crawl about in hay.
20:17They laughed a lot.
20:19But Percy thought they were really being very silly indeed.
20:27Percy was quite a sight.
20:29It was good.
20:30It was daytime.
20:32At night, I don't know what they would have made of him.
20:35Now go to sleep, you two.
20:36But we're still not sleepy.
20:39Well, shut your eyes and pretend you are.
20:42Good night.
20:44Good night.
20:52What was that?
20:53What was what?
20:54Did you hear something?
20:54No.
20:59Gee, I don't know.
21:26A mysterious hand just dropped a nickel
21:29in the slot.
21:30Hey, hey, hey, you guys.
21:32A mysterious hand just dropped a nickel in the slot.
21:35What?
21:36Huh?
21:36Who?
21:36Well, who said?
21:37Well, I suppose it wants us to play something.
21:40Well, that's a good guess, Tex.
21:42Well, thank you, Rex.
21:43You're welcome, Tex.
21:45So, let's all play something.
21:59In a cavern, in a canyon, excavating for a miner, dwell to miner, 49er, and his daughter.
