00:00Parti Bersatu Sabah and Parti Solidarity Tanah Aiku have been urged to resist the temptation of breaking away from the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition ahead of the upcoming Sabah state elections.
00:14A political analyst, who wished to remain anonymous, said some in PBS and Star were pushing for more seats, especially in Kadazan Dusun Murad areas.
00:23He warned that leaving GRS could lead Star and PBS to perform worse in KDM areas, given Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah's strong KDM membership.
00:32Meanwhile, Romzi Ateong of University Malaysia Sabah said certain segments wanted to quit GRS if they didn't get more KDM seats, but said the best move for the two parties would be to remain in GRS.
00:44He said PBS and Star would benefit by staying in GRS, which could provide financial backing and mobilization help from GRS chairman Hanjiki Noor, adding that the parties will end up competing with PGRS for the native vote, which will result in votes being split.
00:59PBS, led by Acting President Joakim Gunsalam, holds seven seats, while Star, led by Deputy Chief Minister Jeffrey Kitingan, holds six.
01:09Siva Murugan Pandian of University Science Malaysia agreed that PBS and Star should stay with GRS, saying that by sticking together, PBS and Star will have a stronger base and could negotiate under the umbrella of the coalition.
