00:00A celebration of England's patron saint, featuring the man himself on a horse.
00:10The St George's Day Parade returned to Morley on Sunday 27th April 2025,
00:16organised by the Morley Branch of the Royal Society of St George.
00:20The Lord Mayor of Leeds and the Mayor of Morley were among those watching local youth and sports groups
00:25marched through the town behind the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Brass Band and members of the British Legion.
00:32Morley Rugby Club was the location for the traditional affirmations,
00:35following which attendees were keen to share what makes Morley and the event so special.
00:41We've been coming now for the last three or four years now.
00:44We've come over from Carlton and we do the Carlton Juniors.
00:50It's just a lovely day out. It's a really nice march up from Morley Town Street.
00:55I used to spin the parade when I was in the Guidesman.
00:59Morley's always been a very traditional town, very patriotic and he's proud to be Morleyan.
01:06It's been going for years but I think this is one of the best days because the weather's good
01:10and I think they've got more stalls so there's more going on today.
01:15So really brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
01:17Seeing the small children, the brownies in the Guides, that's really wonderful.
01:21It's a good community and this is like an original event, the St George's Day Parade
01:26and it brings people from all over into Morley so it's all good.
01:31No doubt people will go down into the town after they've been here and spend a bit of money
01:35so that's all helpful as well.
01:36We've been coming for a few years now and it's always been amazing.
01:41It's always been lots of people attending.
01:44I think this year is special for us because our daughter attends it so she's in Rainbows
01:51so she was in the actual parade.
01:54It was amazing to see her there actually, it was emotional.
01:58And it's always, look around, it's always been a fantastic time.
02:02People enjoy themselves.
02:03Numerous local organisations and charities were on site
02:07to spread the word about the important work that they're doing.
02:10We have mental health groups where we conquer, so these men in need together,
02:15veterans in need together and then power.
02:18So we're here just to try and really put some publicity for the charities.
02:24One of the goals with the veteran group is we're not, it's hard with veterans
02:28because we know we have these problems but we don't really want to sit around a table
02:31all the time and just talk, so what we divvy with a lot of groups is
02:34we also do things out of us, Wednesday night groups.
02:37It's giving veterans that sense of belonging and purpose again
02:40and that's the aim of Fint.
02:41I'm Morley, born and bred.
02:45I think Morley's the heart of Yorkshire to be honest.
02:48The St George's parade is massive, it's got bigger and bigger year on year.
02:52Yeah, myself, I don't live in Morley myself, I live at Willow and Workley
02:55but Morley, it's got that sense of community.
02:59I mean, you can see that today.
