Laurence and Remy discuss a destination hotel hitting the market, success for GigPig and a law firm's second acquisition in quick succession.
Transcript
00:00A destination hotel hits the market, success for a most exciting firm, and a
00:06second acquisition in quick succession for a Northwest Law Firm. That's all
00:10coming up in today's Business Briefing.
00:17My name is Lawrence Golgannon. I'm Remy Griesley. Well, morning Remy, perhaps you
00:23can start by telling us a little bit about this most exciting company. Yes, so
00:26one of our 2023 cohort, GigPig, I'm sure you've heard of them, they've just
00:32forecast that they're going to see a 233% increase in gig bookings over the next
00:38year. Remind me, it's a platform allowing motors to get artists in and artists to
00:42advertise on the platform as well, is that right? And so actually part of this increase
00:47has been sort of put down to the fact that a lot of, you know, sort of smaller venues
00:51like pubs and bars have started using GigPig as well, rather than, you know, those
00:56ones you might expect to use it already. So yeah, it's in bookings by pubs and bars
01:01skyrocket to nearly, you know, I figure that it's quite close to 300% in the last year.
01:07And they say that's sort of reflects a positive shift in those hospitality sort
01:12of places trying to access, you know, maybe a different market. You know, it's such a
01:18turbulent sector at the minute, isn't it? You're never too far off.
01:22I imagine taking things in-house would give like venues and sort of more
01:27confidence about what they can do and the level of booking they can make. And of
01:31course, always good when a, like a company we've selected or an individual via the
01:37most exciting or the 42s for instance is doing well. So great.
01:41Always is nice. Good to see that. And away from that, have you got a spare £1.75 million
01:47pounds, Remy? I might do. I feel like I must do.
01:50Well, because the reason I ask is because there's a destination hotel and wedding venue, which
01:55has gone on the market up in the Eden Valley in Cumbria.
01:58Oh, nice. Yes, it's Orgill Hall. I don't know if you're aware of that one. They say that they
02:04actually hosted Queen Victoria in their more than 200-year history. Yes, so it's been, it's been
02:10brought to market by the current owners who've been there since 1997, popular with weddings,
02:16events, conferences, that sort of thing. And it's, yeah, on the market, a snip at £1.75 million. So
02:23Christie & Co have been appointed as agents. So any interested castle buyers should swoop. And you've
02:31also got news of an interesting property story. Yeah, yeah. So a proposed development
02:36of apartments within what is a Grade II listed walled garden in a historic South Yorkshire hotel,
02:43which all sounds very nice, has now got the green light. Once upon a time, sort of in that place in,
02:49I believe it's called Oaston Hall. I'm not sure if you're familiar as well. No, it doesn't ring about
02:54actually. But it's a walled garden. It does sound very intriguing. Yeah. So the
03:01sort of it's a, the original, the location was originally home to a sort of a manor that was
03:09one of the, you know, those that go all the way back to the Doomsday Book. And then I think it was
03:13in around 1794. They, you know, that was probably crumbling by then, you know, all those years later.
03:20And they, they built Oaston Hall on that. And then the gardens, the walled garden was built in the 1770s,
03:29prior to the new hall. And these plans cover the construction of about 30 service departments
03:35across, I believe it's around eight buildings within the walled gardens. And they'll be for,
03:41you know, short stay, longer stay, and also staff accommodation and things like that. So yeah, very
03:46exciting. Interesting about short stay, because there was the story about Insider's old headquarters
03:52being redeveloped as apartments. So do you ever, do you fancy renting a property in your old office?
03:59Yeah, maybe. I mean, I'm sure there's some ghosts there from Insider relics long gone.
04:07Well, property, and particularly historic property of the sort, we've discussed, it's always popular.
04:12And as our law firm acquisitions, last week, we carried news that Express Solicitors,
04:18a Northwest-based personal injury firm, had acquired HNK Partners in Liverpool. That was
04:24their first acquisition of 2025. Well, now they've made their second acquisition of 2025,
04:29with a deal for Graham Coffey, and so they're not letting the grass go under their feet at Express
04:35Solicitors, I suppose, in keeping with the name. This year is their year, you could say.
04:40Absolutely. And it's allowing the eponymous founder of Graham Coffey to retire. And there's about 20
04:46people coming across to bolster the Express team. So very interesting news there. But to find out more
