00:00But first, breaking tonight, we are 99 days into the second Trump administration, the presidency.
00:06Tomorrow, the president officially hits that 100-day milestone.
00:10The administration is touting its immigration and deportation crackdown,
00:14but the president's opponents paint a very different picture, focusing on the economy.
00:19Correspondent Mark Meredith starts us off tonight live from the North Lawn.
00:22Good evening, Mark.
00:22Brett, good evening to you.
00:23Tonight, the White House is preparing to mark 100 days of action,
00:26and showcasing how they've changed pretty much everything in Washington,
00:30from immigration to the economy, even how the government is run.
00:33But critics say the only thing they see coming out of the Trump White House is chaos and confusion.
00:40Tonight, President Trump is touting his actions on immigration,
00:44including a new executive order reigning in sanctuary cities.
00:48Today on the White House North Lawn, staffers put up posters
00:51showing the mugshots of 100 notable criminal illegal aliens arrested since January.
00:56We are in the beginning stages of carrying out the largest deportation campaign in American history.
01:03On Sunday, federal agents arrested 114 illegal immigrants at a Colorado Springs nightclub,
01:09where officials say both drugs and guns were recovered.
01:11Today, Republicans defended Trump's immigration crackdown.
01:15My constituents who are delighted that President Trump has finally gotten serious about enforcing the law
01:20and removing people who should not be in the United States.
01:24But Democrats say the president is going too far after the arrest of Wisconsin Judge Hannah Dugan.
01:29The feds are accusing the judge of obstruction for allegedly helping an illegal alien avoid federal arrest.
01:36If they can do it here on these court steps in Milwaukee County, they will do it other places.
01:41It's all a matter of time.
01:45Democrats also remain critical of Trump's trade policies as the White House faces growing questions from lawmakers and business executives
01:52on how long higher tariffs may last.
01:55We'll see where it goes. We'll see who's coming in good faith and who's not.
01:59Today, the White House published a list of 47 companies it says are investing more money in U.S. operations.
02:05New York-based IBM joined the list, announcing it will spend $150 billion on U.S. investment over the next five years.
02:12We really appreciate this administration's focus on American innovation and helping that drive global business.
02:20The Treasury Secretary says one of the first trade deals likely to be signed would be with India,
02:25where Vice President Vance recently traveled to.
02:28But what about China?
02:29Beijing is denying reports from the U.S. that conversations about trade are already underway.
02:35Brett.
02:35Mark Meredith, live from the North Lawn.
02:37Mark, thanks.
02:42The Kremlin has declared a 72-hour ceasefire in Ukraine next week as Russia marks victory day in World War II.
02:51But Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is insisting on a longer and immediate truce.
02:56President Trump is sharpening his rhetoric against Vladimir Putin, questioning whether the Russian leader truly wants to stop the war.
03:03Senior national correspondent Rich Edson has the story.
03:07Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky got 15 minutes with President Trump this weekend at the Vatican ahead of Pope Francis' funeral.
03:14And Trump now appears to be losing patience with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
03:19I was very disappointed that missiles were flying by Russia, but that missiles were flying.
03:25Very disappointing.
03:26As the Trump administration tries negotiating an end to the war in Ukraine, Russia continues attacking Ukrainian civilians.
03:33This weekend, President Trump wrote, quote,
03:36It makes me think that maybe he doesn't want to stop the war.
03:39He's just tapping me along.
03:41Then Trump floated additional sanctions on Russia.
03:44Some Senate Republicans say Trump should do it.
03:46Putin has reneged on every promise that he has made to President Trump.
03:51I think that Putin thinks that America has taken the bullet train to Chunktown.
03:59So this morning, the Kremlin says it ordered a three-day ceasefire in Ukraine next week to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.
04:08In response, Zelensky said Russia has repeatedly rejected ceasefire proposals and accused Putin of trying to deceive the United States.
04:15He said there's no reason to wait until May 8th and called for an immediate full 30-day ceasefire.
04:22The American proposal also remains on the table.
04:25Russia knows exactly what it needs to do and how to respond to genuinely ceasefire.
04:31Secretary of State Marco Rubio says this is an important week where the administration will decide if negotiations to end the war are still worth their time.
04:39There are reasons to be optimistic, but there are reasons to be realistic, of course, as well.
04:43We're close, but we're not close enough.
04:46Secretary Rubio says if they're not close enough this week, the U.S. will need to move on and focus on other priorities.
04:52If the Trump administration walks away from negotiations, it's unclear if the U.S. will ultimately increase sanctions on Russia or pull support for Ukraine, Brad.
05:00Yeah, it seems like a consequential week.
05:02Absolutely.
05:02All right, Rich, thanks.
05:03Congress is back in session.
05:06Republicans are intent on passing President Trump's big, beautiful bill, as he calls it, in coming weeks.
05:12Democrats, meantime, are pushing back, but still struggling to try to hit the right note.
05:17Senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram is on Capitol Hill with that tonight.
05:21House Speaker Mike Johnson huddling with President Trump about the big, beautiful bill.
05:26This next few weeks is going to be critical.
05:28It's going to be turbo fuel, a turbo boost for the economy, and we're looking forward to getting that.
05:33Johnson insists Congress can approve the package by Memorial Day, but even Republicans are skeptical.
05:38Could we vote on this on in July?
05:40Maybe.
05:41More likely, it's probably going to be in September or October.
05:44This is not going to be an easy process.
05:46There's going to be a lot of horse trading going on in the next several weeks.
05:49Republicans caution that spending cuts can't be too deep.
05:52We have members that are in those swing districts that are going to be pretty vulnerable, and we don't want to lose the majority.
05:59Democrats desperate for a cohesive message to wield against President Trump.
06:04It's been 100 days of hell.
06:07House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Democratic New Jersey Senator Cory Booker holding a 12-hour sit-in on the Capitol steps protesting the bill.
06:15People will die if this budget is successful.
06:20That's how urgent the fight is.
06:23Michigan Democrat Sri Tenedar just introduced seven articles of impeachment for the president, accusing him of, quote, tyranny.
06:30But when it comes to conventional tactics, upstart Democrats say, blank that, urging their party to ditch the pleasantries.
06:38Drop the excuses and grow a f***ing spine.
06:41I'm running for Congress to tell you the truth, to fight for New York, and to un-f*** our country.
06:47House committees prep the budget bill tomorrow.
06:50They start with fortifying the border and bolstering the Pentagon.
06:54Brett?
06:55Chad Perkram, live on the Hill.
06:56Chad, thanks.
06:57U.S. stock indices shook off a midday slump, ended mostly higher at the start of the week, packed with several potential flashpoints for markets.
07:06The Dow gained 114, the S&P 500 was up four, the Nasdaq lost 17.
07:15Breaking tonight, parts of Spain and Portugal are still without power tonight.
07:20A massive blackout cut service to subway and railway trains, phone service and traffic lights.
07:26Correspondent Stephanie Bennett is in London to tell us where things stand right now.
07:30Mass power outages left millions across Spain, Portugal and parts of France without power today.
07:38Backup generators kicked in at hospitals and Spain's nuclear sites were deemed safe.
07:43But flights were grounded, trains evacuated, stopped in their tracks, and roadways were backed up for miles as traffic lights went dark.
07:51It happened in the middle of the workday.
07:52Residents left scrambling without the internet, cell phone reception or access to electronic banking.
07:57Everything has come to a complete standstill.
08:01People who were trapped in the lifts too, who can't get out because they can't communicate with anyone.
08:06Tennis fans left disappointed as the Madrid Open was forced to postpone multiple matches to Tuesday after scoreboards and match cameras lost connection.
08:15And supermarkets quickly turned to chaos as shoppers stocked up on supplies, panic buying water and toilet paper, among other necessities.
08:22We don't know how long it's going to be, so we are buying what's possible to buy for the moment.
08:27Still, many questions remain.
08:29Portugal's prime minister ruled out a cyber attack, while grid operator Ren claims the outage was caused in part by extreme temperature variations.
08:37Spain and Portugal are green energy leaders, but experts have previously warned that the rapid expansion of wind and solar power could increase pressure on the Spanish grid,
08:46which they say is in need of an upgrade.
08:48But officials in Spain say no cause can be discredited.
08:51Por el momento, for the moment, the power supply has already been restored in several territories in the north and south of the peninsula,
08:59thanks to the interconnections with France and Morocco.
09:04Tonight, power has been restored to about 50 percent in Spain and aiming towards 100 percent by tomorrow,
09:10according to the country's prime minister.
09:12And over in Portugal, it should be a matter of hours for power to come back online.
09:17Brett.
09:17Stephanie, thank you.
09:18Catholic cardinals have set May 7th as the start date for the conclave to elect a new pope.
09:25This is a delay of two days.
09:26Officials say the cardinals want to get to know one another better and to find consensus on a candidate before they are sequestered in the Sistine Chapel.
09:35The cardinals have begun informal meetings following Pope Francis's funeral Saturday.
09:40Up next, Britt Hume and Dana Perino on the first 100 days of the Trump presidency.
09:46First, beyond our borders tonight, a 30-year-old man is charged with multiple counts of murder following an attack on a festival in Vancouver.
09:54Kaigi Adam Lowe is accused of ramming his vehicle into a crowd at a Filipino heritage event.
10:00Eleven people were killed there.
10:01The death toll from a huge explosion that rocked one of Iran's main ports rises to 46 now.
10:08More than 1,000 people were injured.
10:10The fire is still burning two days after the initial explosion.
10:14Authorities have not revealed the cause of that blast.
10:17And this is a live look at Kaiserslautern, Germany.
10:20One of the big stories there tonight, the party of German election winner Friedrich Merz has approved an agreement to form a coalition government with a center-left rival.
10:30Delegates at a convention of Merz's center-right party approved the deal that was reached earlier this month.
10:37It must still clear a vote of the entire 358,000-strong membership.
10:42Look, I wish someone had told me the best advice for building a great career and meaningful life.
10:47Great to see both of you.
10:48Britt, 100 days, 30,000 feet.
10:51We've kind of analyzed this, but you look at it now from all different angles.
10:56What do you see?
10:58Well, it was a roaring start like nothing I think any of us had ever seen before with so many issues attacked all at once.
11:06And he has had, I think, an undeniable success on the border.
11:10They're claiming that and they have every right to.
11:13The border crossings that have been so numerous, so staggeringly numerous during the Biden years have been reduced to a little trickle.
11:21It's a clear success.
11:23The president took on a lot of things at once.
11:25He'd made a lot of campaign promises.
11:28He endeavored to redeem them all.
11:31And for a while, I think he was doing fine.
11:35You know, he took on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
11:38I think a lot of people approve of that.
11:40That's still going forward.
11:42He took on the spending in the government through Doge and Elon Musk.
11:48And I think a lot of people sympathize with that, although it's generated a lot of controversy.
11:53However, when 26 days ago was Liberation Day with tariffs, and that has stirred a lot of people's anxiety and worry about the economy,
12:04sent the stock market plunging and caused a tremendous controversy.
12:08And I think it accounts for the fact that his poll numbers have declined to some extent.
12:13Dana, there are a lot of things still up in the air that haven't landed yet.
12:16There's a lot of balls still up in the air on foreign policy, on domestic policy.
12:20If you look at the North Lawn of the White House, they now have all these rows of criminal immigrants,
12:27illegal immigrants who have been kicked out of the country and accused there of all these crimes, arrested and deported.
12:34What about on the messaging front?
12:37You used to be in that job for 100 days.
12:40What do you think?
12:42I think that Caroline Leavitt was brilliant to kick off today's 100 days, basically marking that moment with immigration.
12:52They led with their strong suit.
12:54It is a decline to some extent.
12:56Dana, there are a lot of things still up in the air that haven't landed yet.
12:59There's a lot of balls still up in the air on foreign policy, on domestic policy.
13:03If you look at the North Lawn of the White House, they now have all these rows of criminal immigrants,
13:10illegal immigrants who have been kicked out of the country and accused there of all these crimes, arrested and deported.
13:18What about on the messaging front?
13:20You used to be in that job for 100 days.
13:23What do you think?
13:24I think that Caroline Leavitt was brilliant to kick off today's 100 days, basically marking that moment with immigration.
13:35They led with their strong suit.
13:37It is immigration.
13:39The border in particular, like the border security, an unbelievable success story.
13:44So she kicked that off this morning, early morning briefing, 8.30, some break things.
13:48And the administration did that.
13:50But there's also that old saying, you break it, you own it.
13:53And now they're having to message on it.
13:55And I believe that foreign policy is certainly one place where they have to explain a bit more.
14:00But in particular, starting tomorrow morning, Caroline and Scott Bessett, the Treasury Secretary, will talk about the economy.
14:07And that has some people very concerned.
14:10They're concerned about prices.
14:11They are concerned about what could happen in the coming tax bill.
14:14But for sure, they're worried about tariffs and where that is going.
14:18So that's why gravity has brought the poll numbers down a little bit overall on the economy.
14:23That, I think, should be his stronger suit.
14:26And they have an opportunity to message on that.
14:29But they're also dealing with facts.
14:31And sometimes you just have bad facts that you have to deal with for a while.
14:33Yeah.
14:34I thought it was interesting in the morning press briefing.
14:36And they may start that to drive the day a little bit more.
14:39You know, Britt, meantime, Democrats are trying to find their voice and maybe their leader in this 100 days.
14:46Here's Governor Pritzker of Illinois trying to go down the road of immigration.
14:52When we get back control of the Congress, and we will.
14:55Democrats need to make it a priority to pass real, sensible immigration reform.
15:15We need to secure our border.
15:23We need to keep and attract hardworking, taxpaying, law-abiding people and give them a path to citizenship.
15:31Now, it's interesting he chooses that.
15:33You know, and that's what President Biden said.
15:35We can only do so much.
15:37We need Congress to act.
15:39And yet you look at these numbers on the southwest border, Brett, it's...
15:42...which you heard the governor mention.
15:45And partly for this reason, Brett, he was narrowly elected, convincingly, to be sure, decisively, but narrowly.
15:53And he made a lot of promises, and he claimed a big mandate.
16:00There's always a temptation on the part of incoming presidents to overread their mandates.
16:06Biden certainly did.
16:07He thought he was going to be the new FDR, and he ran aground.
16:11This president has undertaken a lot of things, you know, peace in the world.
16:15He promised to end the war in Ukraine almost immediately.
16:20He's still struggling to find traction on that, although he's certainly worked hard on it, no doubt about that.
16:26And the situation in the Middle East remains unresolved.
16:29We don't know yet what we're going to be able to do about Iran and the prospect of it getting a bomb and all that.
16:33So as you suggested earlier, Brett, there are a lot of things up in the air.
16:36And the Democrats years ago, because then I would have been prescient.
16:40But at this point, the Democrats look with the worst opposition, and I don't know how they get better for a while.
16:47You know, part of my little piece talks about finding a mentor.
16:50And the other guy on the screen here, I mentioned him in the book, so check it out.
16:56Thank you both for being on.
16:57I appreciate it.
16:58Up next, Canadians go to the polls, but the election may turn on U.S.-Canada relations.
17:04We'll have a live report.
17:05Plus, a man living with ALS now has a way to communicate, thanks to a modern marvel.
17:15Tonight, Canadians are deciding whether to extend the Liberal Party's decade in power or hand control to the Conservatives in Canada.
17:24They will decide on a prime minister.
17:26But the election is also seen as a referendum of sorts, of someone who's not even on the ballot or even Canadian.
17:33President Trump, correspondent Steve Harrigan, reports tonight from Montreal.
17:39The U.S.'s second largest trading partner, major supplier of oil, and key diplomatic ally goes to the polls today in an election that once looked like an easy win for the Conservatives.
17:51Canadians seemed fed up by soaring housing prices, an almost 70-cent carbon tax on a gallon of gasoline, and 10 years of Liberal leader Justin Trudeau.
18:03Then it all began with gasoline and 10 years of Liberal leader Justin Trudeau.
18:08Then it all began to unravel.
18:11I intend to resign.
18:13Trudeau stepped aside, and Conservative leader Pierre Polyev saw a 20-point lead in the polls disappear.
18:19When Justin Trudeau decided to resign, it took the best card in the play of Mr. Poiliev.
18:25And so he didn't seem to know how to react to a new leader.
18:31New Liberal leader Mark Carney got rid of the carbon tax and quickly moved to the centre.
18:36He's also been helped by opposition in Canada to U.S. tariffs, and calls from the Trump administration to annex Canada as a 51st state.
18:45We feel we've been betrayed by the people and country we feel are our best buddies.
18:50President Trump posted again today that Canada would be better off as part of the U.S., that your car, steel, aluminum, lumber, energy, and all other businesses quadruple in size with zero tariffs or taxes if Canada becomes the cherished 51st state of the United States of America.
19:10The Post drew a sharp rebuke from Canada's Conservative leader, who wrote,
19:15President Trump, stay out of our election.
19:20There's been huge early voting.
19:22Canada could be heading for a record turnout.
19:25Brett?
19:26Steve, thank you.
19:28Well, tonight we're hearing from a person who is now able to communicate despite a terrible disease.
19:33Brad Smith is using a technological...
19:36He relies on a ventilator for breathing, and now the Neuralink allows him to communicate.
19:42Smith writes in an ex-post,
19:43Quote,
19:44I am typing this with my brain.
19:46It is my primary communication.
19:49Ask me anything.
19:50I will answer at least all verified users.
19:53Thank you, Elon Musk.
19:55Smith says the circular device, about the size of five quarters stacked together,
20:00is robotically implanted in the motor cortex of the brain.
20:04Threads placed a few millimeters into the brain collect neural firings
20:09that are decoded to control a computer's cursor and type messages.
20:13With this technology, Smith is able to narrate a video posted to X with his own voice,
20:19cloned by AI from recordings made before he got sick.
20:23Overall, the whole Neuralink experience has been fantastic.
20:27It has improved my life so much.
20:29I am so happy to be involved in something big that will help many people.
20:33The other two recipients of the Neuralink implant have spinal cord injuries.
20:38They say the device helps them play video games, chess, and learn software design.
20:44Neuralink is reportedly planning to raise about $500 million as it continues testing the implant,
20:50giving the company a valuation of roughly $8.5 billion.
20:54And government data shows nearly 50 trials underway related to brain-computer interface technology.
21:04As competition heats up, Senate Democrats today called upon the FTC to protect American health data,
21:11warning, quote,
21:11data captured directly from the human brain can reveal mental health conditions, emotional states, and cognitive patterns.
21:19Neuralink did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
21:23Brett.
21:24Amazing story.
21:25Lydia, thank you.
21:26Up next, NFL fans here in the nation's capital have something big to celebrate tonight.
21:31We will talk to the managing partner of the Washington Commanders coming up.
21:34First, here's what some of our Fox affiliates around this country are covering tonight.
21:38Fox 13 in Tampa is one person is dead after a boat rammed into a packed ferry in Clearwater.
21:45Officials say 45 people were aboard when the ferry was hit by a recreation boat Sunday night.
21:50That boat fled the scene, but was later identified by a law enforcement agency.
21:55WFXB in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as a mass shooting leaves 11 people wounded, the gunman dead.
22:02Police say 18-year-old Jarius Davis of Bennettsville opened fire in the middle of a popular tourist spot Saturday night.
22:09He was killed by a law enforcement officer there.
22:12And this is a live look at Cleveland.
22:13One of the big stories there tonight from Fox 8.
22:16The list of new inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
22:20It includes Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cindy Lauper, OutKast, Soundgarden, and the White Stripes.
22:29The induction ceremony will begin.
22:31The capital are celebrating tonight.
22:33Their NFL team is coming home.
22:35On the way home, the Washington Commanders will be returning to the district.
22:39That announcement today, the team reached an agreement to construct a new stadium at the place it called home for more than three decades.
22:46The site of the old Robert F. Kennedy Stadium.
22:49Tonight, we talk with Commander's managing partner, Josh Harris.
22:52Great to see you.
22:53Great to be here.
22:54Congrats.
22:55Amazing day for the city.
22:56Amazing day for our franchise.
22:58Can't wait to get started.
23:00You've been here.
23:01I mean, you grew up here.
23:02So this has history to you.
23:04It really does.
23:05I mean, I used to, I had one uncle that had tickets.
23:09It was a 25-year waiting list.
23:11And once or twice a season, he would let me go.
23:14And I remember walking down East Capitol Street right here, walking into the stadium.
23:19I actually remember being eight years old and feeling the stadium would literally move.
23:23And obviously, those were the days of Sonny Jurgensen, Billy Kilmer, the Hogs, Joe Gibbs eventually, three Super Bowls, Daryl Green, Art Monk, John Reagan.
23:31So a very storied place.
23:34And obviously, to be able to relocate the team here in the middle of the DMV, you've got Virginia and Maryland.
23:40D.C.'s right in the middle.
23:41And the nation's cap was amazing.
23:43So old RFK opened in 1961.
23:47And as you mentioned, they played there.
23:50Then the Redskins played there until 1996 and then went out to FedEx Field.
23:56What's this process look like?
23:57We've now gotten the mayor's support.
23:59We've signed a deal, a term sheet.
24:02And now we have to approach the city council, D.C. council.
24:06And they seem to be favorably inclined, but they need to do their work.
24:10And the project is so beneficial for D.C. in so many different ways that I believe that we'll be able to get the – it will speak for itself in terms of the – not only having almost the best arena in the country or the world located here in the gateway city of Washington,
24:27but also the economic development opportunity, the thousands of jobs and billions of tax revenue.
24:33So the commanders invest $2.7 billion.
24:37It's a roofed stadium.
24:39D.C. government invests $500 million for the stadium costs.
24:42And then events D.C. contributes for the parking garages.
24:45But you're mentioning that it's not just the stadium itself.
24:48It's around – all of that space around there gets developed?
24:52Yes.
24:52So there's a huge site there, about 200 acres, about 15 percent is the stadium itself.
25:00And then there's various neighborhoods.
25:03There's the gateway to the stadium.
25:06And then there's the riverfront.
25:08And then there's parcels on the side.
25:10And ideally, over time, we'll develop thousands of apartments and, you know, some affordable, 35 percent affordable.
25:21And restaurants, bars, there'll be parks.
25:24D.C. has had a great success in becoming a tourist capital, but also, you know, entertainment.
25:33And so if you think about Nationals Park, if you think about Capital One Arena, they've created amazing renaissances for those areas.
25:42Obviously, the focus on the name has happened over the years.
25:46And is the Redskins coming back as a part of this deal?
25:49Focus on the name has happened over the years.
25:53And is the Redskins coming back as a part of this deal?
25:56So the commander's name actually has taken on an amazing kind of element in our building.
26:04So the people that certain types of players that are, you know, tough, that love football, are delegated commanders.
26:14And Jaden, for example, is a commander.
26:17And they're ranked.
26:19And, you know, the business staff has gotten into it.
26:22And obviously, you know, we're in a military city here.
26:25There's more military personnel than anyone else, anywhere else.
26:27So we're kind of moving forward.
26:29The commander's name, excited about that.
26:31Be there opening day for 2030.
26:33Does the name stay of the stadium?
26:35We're going to get as close to our heritage as we can, right?
26:38So I think that name should be a part of it.
26:42You are, you know, a part of the groups of the ownership of the 76ers, of the New Jersey Devils.
26:48It's even got a British football team, soccer team that's doing well.
26:52We're in the FA Cup final.
26:54Congratulations.
26:55So of all of those, has the commanders changed the dynamic for you?
26:59I was raised here, you know, in some of my earliest memories.
27:04And I obviously love and support all the teams.
27:09But certainly Washington is special.
27:11It is indeed.
27:12We have a lot of fans on the Special Report staff, so we'll be cheering.
27:16Thanks, Josh.
27:16I really appreciate it.
27:17Thanks for having me.
27:17Yeah, you bet.
27:19Up next to the panel on 100 Days of President Trump and the Democratic pushback against President Trump's policies.
27:26Do you know who got a Ross on?
27:38See you in the semi- Article, however?
27:40Yeah.
27:40Don't tie it down.
27:41Do you want a Ross?
27:42Yeah.
27:42OK, do you want a Ross?
