National Highways is giving the bridge a serious upgrade, resurfacing and waterproofing one kilometre of road as part of its long-term maintenance plan.

00:28putting a temporary counter flow system in place so they'll still be two lanes open in each direction
00:34but with narrow lanes and a slower speed limit of 40 miles per hour the work started on sunday april
00:42the 27th with overnight closures from 9 pm to 6 am for four nights during those times traffic will be
00:50diverted to the m48 seven bridge then beginning thursday may the first both directions will be
00:58closed overnight for two nights expect more closures on tuesday may the sixth and again eastbound only
01:05on wednesday may the seventh that's when the counter flow will officially go live along with the 40 mile
01:12per hour speed limit which is expected to stay in the place until july hgvs will still be able to use both
01:19lanes including the counter flow over on the m48 now weight restrictions are coming in from monday may
01:27the 27th lorries over seven and a half tons will be banned from the m48 seven bridge for at least 12 to 18
01:36months that's because routine checks found that the bridges suspension cables have in their words
01:42deteriorated and weakened
