A fire at an electrical substation in Maida Vale, West London, forced the evacuation of around 100 residents from a block of flats early today.

Flames and thick smoke were visible from nearby buildings, with a resident describing the terrifying moment they saw the fire spread.

Fifteen fire engines and 100 firefighters tackled the blaze, which caused significant damage, including a collapsed roof.

No injuries were reported, and after several hours, the fire was extinguished.

London Fire Brigade used foam to suppress the flames, and air quality in the area is being monitored.
