00:00Prime Minister Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney
00:07on his victory in Canada's federal election.
00:09In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Anwar said he looked forward to working closely with Carney
00:16to further strengthen bilateral ties, including through the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement
00:21for Trans-Pacific Partnership, CPTPP.
00:25Carney's Liberals staged a major political comeback to retain power in parliamentary
00:30elections, fueled by a backlash against U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs and controversial
00:36remarks suggesting Canada should become the 51st U.S. state.
00:41With nearly all votes counted from Monday's election, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
00:46projected the Liberals would form a strong minority government, securing 169 electoral districts,
00:53just three short of the 172 needed for a majority.
00:58The Conservatives trailed with 144 seats.
01:02According to provisional results from Elections Canada, judicial recounts are expected in two
01:06districts and final official results may take several days.
01:11Although the Liberals fell short of a majority, Carney faces no immediate threat to his leadership.
01:18Several opposition parties would need to unite in a no-confidence vote to topple the government,
01:23an unlikely scenario, as two of Carney's main rivals are facing political setbacks of their
01:29own. Carney, a political newcomer and former central bank chief in both Canada and the U.K.,
01:36had sought a majority mandate to strengthen his hand in negotiations with President Trump over
01:41tariffs that have rattled the Canadian economy.
01:44In a statement, Carney's office said Trump called on Tuesday to congratulate him on his
01:49win. Carney, who has accused Trump of trying to break Canada, reiterated in his victory speech
01:56that he would pursue new security and economic agreements with the U.S. following the election.
02:02America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country. Never. But these are not, these
02:14are not idle threats. President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us. That
02:22will never, that will never ever happen. Carney's tough stance and patriotic messaging helped rally
02:31support, particularly as fears grew over U.S. influence. Minority governments in Canada typically
02:37last no more than two and a half years. But for now, Carney appears to have firm control.
02:52You know, he's been asked to counterbalance the conversation. You know, he's in haze.
02:54He's in the делать contest. Can you open a few minutes to do that?
03:08No. He's in the fight for theew time. Amen.
03:10We have to pay attention.
03:12We're in the fight for the past.
03:13We're in the fight for the past.
03:15We are in the fight for the past.
03:16You're in the fight for the past.
