Vandals have sprayed graffiti on the Rock Houses at Kinver. Ranger Robin Martyn explains.

00:00I'm Robin, I'm one of the rangers here at Kinva. I've been working here for the last three years
00:07and this is one of our old rock houses, one of the unfinished ones that we care for. Unfortunately
00:19this one does tend to get a bit of unwanted behaviour as you can see. It is obscured on
00:28the path, it's an unsafe area. So how long has this been going on for Robin? Because
00:36obviously there's quite a lot of graffiti here. Yeah it's been a bit an issue for, well as long
00:42as I've been here, small bits of graffiti but really I think in the last few months it's become
00:50much more of an issue. Why that is, it could be because of the good weather that we've had,
00:56it kind of brings people out, people want to have barbecues and then when they come here
01:01somebody does a bit of graffiti and then the next time somebody comes they think I'll add to that
01:05and unfortunately it's just got really bad this year. And as you say it is quite a secluded area.
01:10It is secluded, it is hidden, we wanted it that way because of Rock Falls it is unsafe,
01:18so we don't want people coming here but you know some people do know about it and because it's hidden
01:23it kind of makes it easier for them to do. What would you like to say to the people who are doing
01:28this kind of thing Robin? We'd like to ask them to stop, you know these are rock houses that have
01:33been here for hundreds of years. They're really unique to the area and you know if we didn't have
01:40this issue then we could open it up more and people could you know enjoy it you know with some nice
01:45interpretation but and it also has such an impact on our time and our funds that we have to redirect
01:52it elsewhere. You said there might be a struggle kind of removing it or you know you feel you might
01:58just have to be painted over which is such a shame isn't it? Yeah I mean this one was a lot clearer
02:03a week or two ago and we've had a go with paint thinner but as you can see it's kind of smudged it.
02:10We don't have running water in the area and we don't really want paint thinner leaking into the
02:15into the vegetation so we're kind of limited on what we can do. Yeah we may need to paint over it
02:21or the alternative is to to pay a lot for contractors to come in and do a professional job on it.
