A Melbourne tram was evacuated in March after an e-bike caught alight in the baggage area.
Transcript
00:00In March this year, Fire Rescue Victoria responded to a fire that involved an e-bike inside a train carriage.
00:24Thankfully, occupants of the train safely disembarked and were evacuated to a safe area, and firefighters were able to board the train and extinguish the e-bike fire.
00:34Time and time again, we are seeing incidents involving lithium-ion batteries.
00:39Thankfully, here in Victoria, we haven't had any fatalities directly related to lithium-ion batteries, but interstate and internationally, we are continuing to see that risk grow.
00:48So it's really important that if you are on an enclosed space such as a tram carriage or a train carriage, and if you see an e-bike or an e-scooter going into what we call thermal runaway,
01:01where it's showing signs of smoke being emitted or flames or hissing or popping sounds, that you move to the next carriage.
01:10If available, you alert the train or tram driver, and that when safe to do so, you immediately evacuate from that train.
