00:00So let's start. I'm talking with Tina Fey Wilforte. Very excited. La, la, love both of you.
00:08So this show is about six best friends. They go on vacation together. Winter, spring, summer, and fall.
00:17You know, they spend a lot of time together. And on one of their vacations, they learn that one of the couples is going to get a divorce after like, I don't know how many, 25 years, I think, of marriage.
00:29But in the first episode, it's revealed. And you say a line that I said when I was 10 years old, the exact line to my grandfather.
00:40My grandfather created the Bickerson's. I don't know if you know who the Bickerson's are.
00:43I know of it, yeah.
00:45They were the Bickerson's. So he created it. And they fought. Forget it. You know the Bickerson's, so I don't have to tell you.
00:52And I remember I was 10 years old, and I was listening to you on watching the episode. And you said, can't they just fight it out?
00:59Instead of get a divorce. And I thought, oh, my God, she must have been listening to me when I was a kid, because that's what I said.
01:05Well, can I tell you something else? That is one of the few lines that we retained from the original movie.
01:10That's Alan Alda's writing, because he, and it's one of, and a friend of mine had expressed to me that it's her favorite line in the original movie.
01:17And I thought, we've got to keep that line, because Alan Alda and Carol Burnett have a very similar scene.
01:23And she says, can't they just fight it out?
01:25It's so true. Well, my grandparents fought it out for their entire marriage till they died.
01:29And they made it.
01:30And I feel like your characters also, all six of you, fight it out in some form during the course of this eight episodes, which I watched all eight episodes.
01:41Yay. I could not pull myself away.
01:43I laughed. I cried.
01:45I just, I had a ball. But speaking of Alan Alda and Carol Burnett, how was it to recreate that role? Were you intimidated? Did you talk to her?
01:55I did not talk to Carol about it. I mean, obviously, I talked to Alan about it, because we got his blessing. It's his movie that he wrote and directed.
02:01But, you know, yeah, I love Carol. I've been blessed to meet her over the years. I've been able to express to her in the past how much I love this movie, which I think she also was like, again, why were you watching this movie? You were 10.
02:12But, but I, yeah, I had to put it out of my mind that it had been Carol's part because I, you know, could never emulate Carol. She's just iconic.
02:21I don't know. You did a pretty good job.
02:23You were pretty great at it. You were pretty great. Your character, Jack, was really great.
02:27It's very intimidating, you know, trying to follow in Alan Alda's footsteps.
02:31It has to be, right? But you did a pretty good job. I mean, your character was sensitive. Your character was a little naive. I'm just going to say it a little bit.
02:41I was just going to say it was Alan's character.
02:43A little bit naive, but warm and loving and so willing, which is what I loved about that character.
02:50It's not typical of a man to be as willing as Jack was.
02:55Jack was right in the name, you know, you are Will.
02:58Is there anything about Jack that is Will? Did you take any?
03:03I think I'm kind of an idealist in my life and yeah, there were a bunch of little things in there that, but I related all over the place with this.
03:16Like there's so many things that so many different characters and couples were going through good and bad that I kept going, oh yes.
03:25Oh, that's, you know, relating it to my own life.
03:28So that brings me to a question for both of you guys.
03:31Have you ever vacationed with couples and found something, a big secret or something that you, you know, you just thought to yourself, oh God, how am I going to deal with this?
03:41And, and how, who, how do you do it? If they're best friends, both of you, you know what I mean?
03:46How do you deal with that?
03:47I don't think I've, I don't think I've ever had somebody unload a secret that big.
03:52I'm trying to think though.
03:54I've had secrets, but I can't think of any that were on, on a vacation.
03:59I want to ask this. You said you wanted everyone to feel after they watched this, like we were wrapped in a big sweater and like we were at a dinner party all together.
04:09Yeah.
04:09I'm going to say you did that for me.
04:11Great.
04:11Um, do you feel after seeing the episodes now, I'm assuming you did both of you, that you did that, you accomplished that?
04:17I hope so. I think so. I think especially, you know, with our characters by the end, I have jokes saying like, you can tell this was written by women, uh, because like the ultimate for our characters, you wrap me up like a big burrito.
04:30And that's it.
04:31That was the best ending.
04:32The ultimate love scene. You wrap me up like a big burrito and then you lay it on top of me and apologize to me. It's all women want.
04:38It's really true. That's why you're so sensitive and loving.
04:40I just thought of a big secret that someone told us.
04:43Oh, that's too dumb.
04:43It wasn't a relationship thing, but it was a big secret.
04:47It wasn't.
04:47And I'm not going to tell you who, but it was somebody you know.
04:50Oh!
04:51And?
04:51Somebody a lot of people know.
04:53Went on a vacation and this person, uh, had to leave, uh, a day early, uh, to go to a show.
05:02They're an actor.
05:03Okay.
05:03It's a man.
05:04Okay.
05:05And on the way to the plane, he had to pull over and, cause, uh, he pooped his pants in the car.
05:13Oh my God!
05:13And he had to get rid of the underwear on the way to the whole...
05:18I think this is you.
05:19This is not me.
05:20This is not me.
05:21So then he told us about it and then we tried forever to try to see if we could find the underwear.
05:26And the next year we went back to the same place and we found it.
05:31No!
05:32Yeah.
05:32Stop it!
05:32And like in the desert road?
05:34It was like this, it was, yeah, it was like a, just a kind of dirt road that...
05:39I'm going to get to the bottom of this.
05:40Yeah.
