00:00This is now a long-running story which has been deeply controversial and divisive.
00:08This latest development is no exception.
00:11Met Police marksman Martin Blake was, of course, cleared for the murder of Chris Carver in October during a lengthy trial.
00:21But on Wednesday, the Independent Office for Police Conduct said he will still have to face gross misconduct proceedings.
00:31On the night Mr Carver died, police began following the Audi Q8 that he was driving because it had been used as a getaway car in a shooting in Brixton the night before.
00:46Blake shot Chris Carver as he tried to ram his way past police cars that had hemmed him in.
00:55Metropolitan Police bosses had argued that the evidence against Mr Blake had been tested significantly during the trial
01:04and that the IOPC should reconsider whether he should face a disciplinary hearing.
01:10Matt Cain, who is the General Secretary of the Metropolitan Police Federation that represents rank and file officers in the force,
01:21said this is frankly a nonsensical ruling by the IOPC that will shock police officers across London and indeed the country.
01:31Dozens of Metropolitan Police officers downed tools in outrage when Mr Blake was charged with murder and even the army was put on standby.
