00:14So, Asianic News has come to Gurgaon University and cover the Ceremonian Ceremony of GIPKL
00:20Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League
00:23I have with me Ashok Das, he is the current acting President of World Kabaddi
00:27and he is also the founder and president of England Kabaddi Association.
00:31Sir, what is this new junk that we are seeing in GIPKL?
00:35How different this league is from other leagues like PKL and several other leagues?
00:43GIPKL, this is the first kind of league in India to promote Kabaddi globally,
00:48and it's a joint adventure between GKL and Parvasi Bharati.
00:54The aim is Kabaddi कि नही जग्जग,
00:56that's the motto, that's the logo.
00:58Kabaddi कि नही जग्जग means a new revolution in Kabaddi.
01:02So we are bringing to new revolution in Kabaddi, which has never happened before.
01:06You will see we are using the same pitch for the men's and the women's.
01:12It's never happened before.
01:13And we are giving the same prize money for the women's and men's in the final.
01:18It's never happened before.
01:20Even the trophy, because we believe there's an agenda between men's and women's, right?
01:25And this sport, to go to globally, so we need the players from around the world.
01:33And this league, you will see each team, men's and women's, and they are two players from the abroad,
01:39like many countries, many different countries.
01:41So what is the aim?
01:43They can learn from them, from the experienced people.
01:46They can enjoy, they can get the experience and go back and develop Kabaddi in their own region, in their own country.
01:53Okay.
01:54Other thing, the aim, the Indian culture.
01:58If you're living in England or if you're living in the USA and you've been to India once and go to your village,
02:05spend a few days and go back, you don't know the culture because there's many states, many regions in India.
02:12So this way, from 20 days, they're talking to each other, they're asking their tradition,
02:19they're asking their traditional food, they're asking about India because what we heard back home,
02:27whatever we've seen on the TV from BBC, India is this, India is that.
02:31But this way, actually, they can take a real message.
02:34What is the actually India?
02:36It's an incredible India through this Kabaddi.
02:40Kabaddi bounding, I think, is Kabaddi bounding to the global, right?
02:44This beautiful sports Kabaddi, where you don't need any equipment.
02:48There's very few sports in this Kabaddi.
02:51And this is why the foreign countries, the people adopting these sports.
02:56And it's fast-growing sports on the earth.
02:58We just delivered the first World Cup outside Asia three weeks ago in England, in my own city,
03:07where I think more than 25 million people watch across the world in seven countries.
03:13So you talked about three weeks ago you organized this World Cup in England.
03:18It was your dream and it did come true.
03:21So I want to know about this thing.
03:24We are trying to take Kabaddi to a global scale.
03:27And this is our indigenous game.
03:30We are very proud of it.
03:31And we are taking it to the next level.
03:33But you have worked on ground to bring together these teams in World Cup.
03:37How difficult or should I say how easier it was for you to, you know,
03:42get together all of these teams and organize the World Cup?
03:45It is difficult outside India because India is you, there's a quota and the players when they go on a national level.
03:53So they've been employed by the private sector, government sector.
03:58So they aim just to play Kabaddi and they will get the wages.
04:02And also coaches outside India, where we act in Western country, it's not like that.
04:09There's no quota for the sports person to get in a sports job and for the coaches.
04:14Whatever we do over there, we spend our own money.
04:17This is a challenge for us.
04:19And it's hard to get a player because a player, every player, every sector, so they have to work.
04:28The people working here as well.
04:29But the difference is outside, outside India, we, the player and I, we have to work.
04:37And then we have to go for the training.
04:39So this is hard to get a player, to get a continuous training and the build of a team.
04:46So this is a big challenge.
04:47And the World Cup is what's more challenge because the sponsors.
04:52And then again, this is the Nardai game.
04:55Like in India, this is the Indian sport.
04:57The people can understand, people know the value of the sports.
05:00But outside in Western country, it's new sports.
05:02It was a challenge, but we went through with the help of the God and blessing, I could say.
05:08And the help from the, there's petty power.
05:10They sponsor us.
05:11And then the government is called Western Midland Growth Company.
05:15And the legacy fund from the government, the Commonwealth Games.
05:19So this is the help us to promote because they said the South Asian, like we have less into the sports.
05:25They want more South Asian into the sports.
05:28If you see Olympic chart, if you see the Commonwealth chart, there's a very handful of Asian taking part and role model back home.
05:37So this is the reason the government investing into this company.
05:40This was my dream when I started 30 years ago.
05:43One day I can have a World Cup.
05:45So it was hard to go country to country, country to country, to build up country, build up the team, build up the federation.
05:52But when you have a belief and you have a passion, so I think then God bless you as well.
05:59And this is not only me, it's help.
06:01There's many helping hand behind this.
06:03And we deliver successful first ever World Cup outside Asia.
06:07That is beautiful that we were able to pull that off.
06:10But another vision, another milestone that we're looking at is to, you know, play in Olympics.
06:16How far this is, you think?
06:18Yeah, this is a dream.
06:19I think every Kabaddi lover, that's their dream.
06:22So when Kabaddi can go to the Olympics.
06:24We need a sport.
06:25We need a sport from our Indian government.
06:28Like American, they go American football.
06:30They investing, American government, they invest into their sports.
06:35And that's why you will see there's a rugby and there's a football and there's baseball because they invest in it.
06:41But in Kabaddi, I don't see the Indian government, they invest into the Kabaddi outside India.
06:47I'm proud because I love this sport, right?
06:50And I got the sport from my family and invest my own money, my own time.
06:55It's my passion.
06:58But if government help all their consulate journal outside India, it will be a different picture.
07:05But hopefully, when 2036 Olympic, hopefully India will win this bid and then host the Olympic, then the Kabaddi will be part of the Olympic.
07:16Great.
07:16Final question from my side.
07:18What message do you have for young Kabaddi players or for anyone who is in sports and want to and aspire to become a Kabaddi player and make a global name for themselves?
07:27Yeah, India is huge and there's, I don't know, how many hundred thousand players.
07:31They have a dream to become a national player.
07:33They can play for an Asian game.
07:35They can play for a World Cup.
07:37And it's hard.
07:38Sometimes you are deserving to get in a team.
07:42You can't get a place into the team because there are many huddle-puddle in India.
07:46But my message is never give up.
07:49Never give up.
07:50Believe yourself.
07:51Keep going.
07:51One day you will succeed.
07:53As myself, I played Kabaddi in India, in Punjab and carried a dream.
07:59One day I will deliver the World Cup.
08:01I did it because this is a help from God.
08:03Never give up.
08:04Keep carrying on.
08:05Keep playing Kabaddi.
08:06Love Kabaddi.
08:08Thank you so much.
08:09So, here it was Mr. Das with us.
