00:00All right, news is coming in. The Delhi Chief Minister is visiting waterlogged suites in the national capital.
00:05Rekha Gupta takes stock. She is in Delhi's Majnuka Teela, which always is very prone to flooding during rains of this kind.
00:14Rain-causing jams and waterlogging in several parts of the national capital.
00:18The Delhi Chief Minister is there taking stock of the situation, inspecting the waterlogged roads at Delhi's Majnuka Teela at this point in time.
00:26And pictures are from Majnuka Teela in Delhi, where this waterlogging has taken place.
00:31And that's where the Chief Minister is. You can see her on your screens, examining or looking at the situation there.
00:40Delhi Chief Minister, they are taking stock of the situation.
00:43Rains in the national capital and as a result, there has been waterlogging in several parts of Delhi, causing great amount of inconvenience to regular commuters there.
00:51Trees have fallen and there are traffic jams, waterlogging that you can see on your screens at this point in time.
00:59Take a look at what the Chief Minister said just a while ago.
01:02The Chief Minister said just a while ago.
01:32Rain, thunderstorms, Lash, Delhi NCR, a red alert has been issued amid massive waterlogging.
01:39The Chief Minister is there taking stock of the situation, talking about the kind of work that the previous ARP government had done,
01:46which has led them to the situation where the waterlogging continues.
01:50Majnuka Teela is where the Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is at this point in time.
01:55Remember, we woke up to heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and waterlogging has been seen in several parts of the city, of Delhi City.
02:04The downpour has brought much needed relief, but take a look at the pictures coming in of devastation and also of waterlogging that has been seen.
02:13The Delhi Chief Minister is, in fact, taking stock.
02:17Amit is with us for the very latest on that.
02:20Amit, the Delhi Chief Minister is taking stock of the situation in the worst-hit areas.
02:24She has also said that part of the problem is that the Delhi government, led by the previous Amadmi Party,
02:30did not do much to improve this and that she is going to work in this direction.
02:34What's the plan? Talk to us about that.
02:36Right, Sneha. You know, I'm standing right at the spot where Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is
02:46and where she was actually describing as to what is the situation in the national capital right now.
02:52So, instead of dodging or denying the fact that Delhiwalas are going through a trouble,
02:57she did acknowledge the fact that thousands of people are on the roads of the national capital
03:02who are stuck in traffic jam, heavy traffic jam, caused by the waterlogging situation in different parts of the national capital.
03:10She did mention the fact that this is happening because of the misgovernance of the previous Amadmi Party government
03:17or the erstwhile Amadmi Party government.
03:19And now her government is, you know, working in tandem with different agencies,
03:23in coordination of different agencies in order to control the situation.
03:28And we have also seen as to how different ministers or, you know, departments of the Delhi government
03:34are on their toes since this morning when we saw heavy downpour in the national capital.
03:39Pervez, Saheb Singh Verma, Delhi minister, was himself on the streets.
03:44Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, while coming to this particular spot,
03:47Sevanagar, where she is to, you know, flag off electric vehicles for the Delhiwalas,
03:54that's where she said that on the way to this particular spot,
03:58she has taken stock of the situation, also coordinated with different agencies
04:02and each of them have been asked to, you know, work round the clock in order to control the situation.
04:08But there's also a question mark, Sneha, certainly, that in the month of March,
04:13it is the time when Delhi prepares itself for the monsoon
04:16and the desilting activity begins from month of March itself.
04:20So, if you have, you know, this early rains happening in the national capital,
04:27is it not a question mark on the preparations that were being done so far
04:30by different agencies including PWD and the MCD and other agencies
04:36who are responsible for maintenance of the sewage across the national capital?
04:42So, it's also sort of a wake-up call for those agencies,
04:45but certainly Rekha Gupta is saying that her government is trying to fix the entire system.
04:50Back to you.
04:52So, you did mention that, but take us through the details of, you know,
04:56what really is the situation like as of now.
04:58This, of course, is Majnuka Teela, but water logging and inconvenience has been reported
05:02from various parts of Delhi.
05:04So, give us an overview of the situation, Amit.
05:06Right, Snaya.
05:12You know, beginning with Minto Bridge, it has become an annual affair
05:15that the moment you have heavy danpour in the national capital,
05:19the first area which will be affected by water logging will be Minto Bridge
05:24and this is, it was no exception this morning as well.
05:28By 7 in the morning, you had vehicles getting stuck in the,
05:31right in the heart of the national capital,
05:33right next to the Connaught Place, Minto Bridge area.
05:37But the only difference this time around we saw was the agencies had started to respond.
05:43However, it was also a fact that Rekha Gupta's visit to that particular spot
05:46was also announced that she is expected to go there by 8.30
05:50and by 8 in the morning itself, the water logging situation at Minto Bridge was dealt with.
05:54At ITO, the sewer water was actually overflowing and it had submerged several parts of the lane
06:01which is the main connection lane of the main, you know, Lutyens, Delhi
06:06and the east, eastern parts of the national capital.
06:10So, that area you had slow traffic moving because of the water logging situation
06:14or the roads being submerged by the sewage water.
06:17In Khan Market area, you had pre-filling instances at Barakamba Road
06:21because of the gusty winds, tree had fallen in the sub lane of Barakamba
06:26which had blocked that particular sub lane as well.
06:29Similar visuals are also coming from areas nearby Dholakuan.
06:34We know for a matter of fact that on working days, it's usually heavy traffic area
06:38because people from Delhi lived towards Gurgaon for work
06:41and those living in Gurgaon also come towards Delhi for their work
06:45and because of the heavy downpour, you had, you know, half of the lane or half of the road
06:51in these areas also getting submerged because of the heavy water on the roads
06:56which eventually led to slowing down of the traffic.
07:00But certainly, there are claims by the Delhi government that different agencies
07:05be it the PWD or the MCD or other departments who are responsible for maintenance of the civil lines
07:12in the national capital, they are working in tandem in order to control the situation.
07:16But certainly, this morning when Delhi Wallas woke up, they woke up to heavy downpour of water, gusty winds.
07:24It might have been a sug of relief for them from the temperature, that rising temperature
07:30that we have been witnessing in Delhi, especially the fact that April this time around
07:34was one of the hottest Aprils in the recent times.
07:37That's right.
07:37There are projections forecast for May as well that May is going to be extremely hot.
07:42So, it was a respite from that heat but certainly also trouble when they were heading towards their workplaces.
07:49Undoubtedly. Undoubtedly.
07:50Amit, I'm going to leave it at that for the moment.
07:51The Chief Minister is taking stock of the situation in Delhi
07:54but questions of course being raised about why this could not be anticipated
07:58and also whether the desilting work that is usually done during the month of March
08:03in preparedness for the upcoming rains, was that not done is the big question here.
