Parts of Delhi-NCR were hit by intense rainfall and thunderstorms, leading to waterlogging, tree falls, and flight delays at IGI Airport. The downpour brought a welcome drop in temperatures after a searing heatwave, though low-lying areas like Minto Bridge remain flooded despite precautionary efforts.
Transcript
00:00:00Delhi NCR residents waking up to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms that have lashed parts of Delhi NCR.
00:00:08So be cautious when you're leaving from your residence to be able to check nearby areas and the med department advisory.
00:00:15Because a massive thunderstorm has led to trees being uprooted, waterlogged streets, rains have hit flight operations.
00:00:22Look at those visuals on your screen. A massive wind speed.
00:00:25And there have been clearly an impact on the streets as well. Waterlogging is being reported from several areas.
00:00:32In case you're heading to the airport, please know that the flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi also have been impacted.
00:00:40There's been a massive thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds.
00:00:45Delhi International Airport has put out a statement saying some flights have been affected owing to the inclement weather conditions.
00:00:50And while I was also on my way to India Today Network, we found that there was waterlogging in several areas.
00:00:59This is in the Noida premises in NCR.
00:01:02So be cautious, be safe.
00:01:04But also remember it's a dip in temperature that's brought some level of relief to the people of Delhi NCR too.
00:01:11And at this juncture, remember, India Today is on the ground.
00:01:18So you get a direct live update.
00:01:21Joining me, Himanshu Mishra, from a vantage point to help you understand what is the situation.
00:01:26Himanshu, where are you presently?
00:01:30How is the situation?
00:01:31How is the situation?
00:01:52foreign
00:02:22There was a lot of news about water logging, and it was the place where every time this happens,
00:02:28if you look at the Minto Bridge, although there is a lot of pressure on the motor,
00:02:35but there is a lot of water logging.
00:02:41In other words, if you look at NH9 in the morning,
00:02:46there is a lot of pressure on the motorway on the motorway.
00:02:53But the result of the preservation disturbance on the motorway,
00:02:58this was the most part.
00:03:02It was the 40 degrees of temperature,
00:03:08and the minimum temperature was 30 degrees.
00:03:12So, it's about 8 to 10 degrees in temperature. This is a very powerful news for people.
00:03:19And now, you can see how the weather has been made.
00:03:22You will see that you will see on the four sides of the storm.
00:03:25So, this is the reason why we have seen some water logging.
00:03:34So, this is such a long time, maybe 2-3 hours, and so much water logging.
00:03:39So, this is the reason why we have seen some water logging.
00:03:46Because if you look at the local areas, the residential areas, the colonies,
00:03:54if you talk about the NCR, the water logging is very low.
00:04:01If you talk about Indrapuram, there will be a good water.
00:04:06Because the water logging is not in the area of the colonies.
00:04:11But there are some spots in Delhi, where there is water on the main road,
00:04:16where there is a Minto road, a Bannarpur area, a Pulprahlathpur area.
00:04:21If you talk about Minto road, Pulprahlathpur,
00:04:25it has been a flyover from the bottom.
00:04:29So, there is no doubt that there was more water here.
00:04:34This is not even the monsoon season that has hit.
00:04:37How and why do we have water logging already, especially in country's capital?
00:04:40Stay on with me Himanshu.
00:04:42I have an update coming in.
00:04:44Around 40 flights have been diverted to other airports.
00:04:48There has been a disruption in flight operations as well.
00:04:50Look at the gusty winds.
00:04:52This is barely about a few minutes from now.
00:04:56We are told that heavy rainfall, massive thunderstorm, lash Delhi NCR.
00:05:01In fact, I can tell you that a lot of Delhi residents literally woke up to the sound of the thunderstorm.
00:05:08That's how loud it was.
00:05:10The lightning sound, that's how loud it was.
00:05:12Trees have been found uprooted.
00:05:14A clear disruption of flight operations.
00:05:17It's a developing story.
00:05:1840 flights have been diverted to other airports.
00:05:22100 flights have experienced delay.
00:05:24Remember, one of the most busiest of airports is the Delhi airport.
00:05:29And we are staying on this big news.
00:05:32More and more visuals that our colleagues are bringing to us right now.
00:05:35Tell us this, Himanshu.
00:05:38When you are driving on the streets, what is the situation like?
00:05:46And stay on with me also.
00:05:48Because I want to bring to the viewer.
00:05:50Remember, yes, on one aspect is that there is a certain relief that has come through the people of Delhi NCR.
00:05:56Which is in the form of the temperature change.
00:05:59There had been in the past few days a sudden rise in temperature.
00:06:03And it appeared that the summer season clearly has hit us and how.
00:06:07So in that respect, there have been of course, a dip in temperature.
00:06:11However, it has come with, look at that.
00:06:13Look at the inconvenience to a poor auto driver.
00:06:16To the truck driver.
00:06:18And that also raises a question.
00:06:20Was the administration not prepared?
00:06:22How can barely two to three hours of rainfall lead to this waterlogging?
00:06:26People need to head to their office and other destinations.
00:06:29Kumar Kunal, closely tracking Delhi for years now.
00:06:32Kunal, you can tell us what is the current status right now.
00:06:35Because how many hours, according to you, possibly it's rained in Delhi NCR.
00:06:40The waterlogging makes it look like it has been raining all night.
00:06:44Exactly.
00:06:45And there was quite a rain fall in Delhi.
00:06:48In many areas including Lodi Road and Sub-Sarjang.
00:06:53Almost 60 mm rain was recorded within 40 years of time.
00:06:58And resulting in the waterlogging which we are witnessing this early morning.
00:07:05And definitely a question will be raised on the preparations for Maung Kun.
00:07:10Because it is just a small spell of rain which has affected the normal life this much.
00:07:18So we can expect that if the heavy rains will come during Maung Kun, that will disrupt the lives even more.
00:07:27As quite a heavy rainfall was recorded in Delhi along with thunderstorms this morning.
00:07:36Even gusty winds were reported in several areas.
00:07:40Even flight operations have been affected due to the gusty wind.
00:07:49Almost 40 flights have been diverted to different airports nearby Delhi.
00:07:55And almost 100 even more than 100 flights are delayed now due to the adverse weather conditions.
00:08:03So all these are expecting normal life and definitely Delhi government, MCD and other agencies could be better prepared.
00:08:13So we will be tracking that in the hours to come.
00:08:16Remember, it's going to be the most crucial office hour at about 8 to 10 a.m.
00:08:21Where the impact of waterlogging or rainfall and thunderstorm would be visible.
00:08:26We will be tracking that our colleagues are on the ground.
00:08:28Kunal, thank you very much.
00:08:33I have news coming in.
00:08:50This is from the border areas.
00:08:52Pakistan Army Post resorting to unprovoked small arms firing from the post across the line of control.
00:08:57This is primarily in the Kashmir Valley but also in Jammu region.
00:09:01Kupwara, Baramula, Punj, Naushaira, Aknur.
00:09:04The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir in different areas is facing right now unprovoked small arms firing from Pakistan Army Post.
00:09:13For example, I just want to bring clarity to you.
00:09:16Punj, Naushaira, Aknur in the Jammu region.
00:09:19Kupwara, Baramula in the Kashmir Valley.
00:09:21Indian Army troops, needless to say, responding in a calibrated and proportionate manner.
00:09:26A beffetting response.
00:09:27But it's a reminder.
00:09:28India tried best to resolve tensions with Pakistan.
00:09:32Bring peace at the border.
00:09:34And then comes in this specific attack and massacre in Pahlgaam and then the border tensions.
00:09:42Remember, there are villagers who live along these areas, along the line of control.
00:09:46And they face the impact of these firing of the kind of unprovoked incidents that are taking place with regard to Pakistan Army.
00:09:55My colleague, Shivani Sharma, closely tracks the arms forces and she's joining me right now.
00:10:01Shivani, good morning.
00:10:02Tell me more about how in the past few days we're increasingly receiving these reports from the border areas.
00:10:08What are you picking up?
00:10:10Pooja, this has been a continuous day when we are receiving these updates right in the morning by the Army.
00:10:17That through the night there have been ceasefire violations by Pakistani force, Pakistani Army.
00:10:23And these are small firearms that are taking place.
00:10:26And to which Indian Army has been responding in a calibrated and equal manner.
00:10:32So this is how the Indian Army is retaliating to this ceasefire violation along the line of control.
00:10:38And various areas to which one day there was also a report of this fire being opened at the international border.
00:10:45So all these areas which are mentioned, phone sector, the Kubwada sector, all these areas, the Pakistani force have been firing on the Indian side.
00:10:54And the Indian side has been retaliating.
00:10:55So this is showing how without initiating any action from Indian side, Pakistan has been quite in panic.
00:11:02It has been violating ceasefire and it's been the eighth continuous day now.
00:11:07Shivani will be tracking all the latest on this.
00:11:10Shivani, keep updating us what's unfolding at the border.
00:11:14A reminder that the nation which is our neighbour, you cannot change.
00:11:19You cannot change.
00:11:20But there was a hope.
00:11:21Tensions could be resolved.
00:11:23But clearly nothing is happening.
00:11:24Alright, we have more news coming in.
00:11:26Let's take a look at that.
00:11:28Now, in the wake of the deadly attack in Javan Kashmir's Pahlgaam, 26 civilians, remember, were killed.
00:11:3425 Indian citizens, one Nepalese civilian as well.
00:11:37Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, came across now after 10 days to also give a reassurance to the people of India.
00:11:45Remember, because there's a lot of hope, but there's also a lot of anger.
00:11:48Everyone wants answers, response and these terrorists to be neutralized.
00:11:52Home Minister Amit Shah's warning to terrorists and their supporters as well.
00:11:56He said that those responsible should not mistake the attack for a victory.
00:11:59India will hunt down each and every one of them.
00:12:02He's in fact also said that the April 22 assault is one of the worst since 2019 Pulwama attack.
00:12:07Let's listen in to what did Home Minister Amit Shah say,
00:12:10especially with regard to Pakistan cross-border terror network
00:12:13and how does the government intend to respond to Pakistan.
00:12:17India will identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backer.
00:12:33India's spirit will never be broken by terrorism.
00:12:38Terrorism will not go unpunished.
00:12:44Every effort will be made to ensure that justice is done.
00:12:51When there will be an attack, our fight will continue.
00:12:56And the people who have committed to the attack,
00:13:01the attack will be given to the attack.
00:13:06I want to now bring you a big revelation.
00:13:33It's come from a former Pakistani army officer.
00:13:36Dropping a bombshell and how.
00:13:38In this exclusive interview and with India Today Only,
00:13:41Major Adil Raja is alleging that the Pahalgam terror carnage
00:13:44was orchestrated not just by terrorists from Pakistan
00:13:48but on direct orders of Pakistan military chief General Asim Munir.
00:13:52According to this former army officer from Pakistan, Adil Raja,
00:13:55General Munir's motives run deep,
00:13:57driven by ambitions to consolidate power,
00:13:59extend control over the Pakistan military for the next one decade.
00:14:03But here's how it gets more shocking.
00:14:06Raja is claiming that General Munir acted with China's approval,
00:14:10went ahead against the wishes of the ISI,
00:14:13exposing a growing power rift between Pakistan's top spy agency
00:14:17and military leadership.
00:14:18Is he trying to become all too powerful,
00:14:20possibly like General Musharraf of the days or more,
00:14:23or even Ziaul Haqq?
00:14:25He also describes a deepening divide between the ISI and the army.
00:14:28Listen in to this exclusive interview.
00:14:30of what a former Pakistan army officer has to say.
00:14:38Are there telltale signs of Pakistani establishment's involvement in this attack or not?
00:14:44I would stand by my information,
00:14:47which has been provided to me by my sources in the Pakistani intelligence community,
00:14:52who claim that the Pahalgam terror attack was orchestrated,
00:14:57ordered by the Pakistani army chief,
00:15:00General Asim Munir,
00:15:02for his own personal interest.
00:15:04That is what I still,
00:15:07you know,
00:15:07I still say the same thing.
00:15:09But there are many other factors behind it.
00:15:12What are his personal interests?
00:15:14Those needs to be addressed.
00:15:16And then,
00:15:17you know,
00:15:17there are,
00:15:18there is a,
00:15:19there is a philosophy behind it
00:15:21that needs to be discussed in detail.
00:15:23But yes,
00:15:24I stand by my information that it was a personal venture,
00:15:28irrespective of the ISI officers telling General Asim Munir not to go ahead with it
00:15:34because of the repercussions.
00:15:36He still went ahead with it after,
00:15:39you know,
00:15:39following the very old philosophy,
00:15:44I would say,
00:15:45which our army officers love,
00:15:47you know,
00:15:47talking about a philosophy of a thousand cuts,
00:15:50you know,
00:15:51and it has been replied by Dr.
00:15:54Amirjit Singh in 2014 by Indian defense general.
00:15:59But well,
00:15:59we will discuss it if you'll allow me later.
00:16:02But yes,
00:16:02it was a personal venture of General Asim Munir.
00:16:05Yeah.
00:16:06Well,
00:16:06this is quite a direct reference that he has made.
00:16:11And it comes in,
00:16:11remember,
00:16:12from a Pakistan army former major.
00:16:15Joining me now is our foreign affairs editor,
00:16:17Geeta Mohan,
00:16:18for the latest on that.
00:16:19Geeta,
00:16:20that's quite an explosive statement.
00:16:22How do you think that's going to play out when it comes to a direct charge?
00:16:26How should one see?
00:16:27How much should one believe what Adil Raja has to say?
00:16:31Well,
00:16:31Pakistan will continue to remain in denial.
00:16:34The fact that Pakistan says it was not involved at all
00:16:37and has sought a probe into this entire Pahlgan terror attack.
00:16:41But the fact of the matter is that this is a man who was a third generation military officer
00:16:46from Pakistan.
00:16:49He's living in exile in London because he spoke truth to power.
00:16:53And he's speaking truth to power yet again,
00:16:56talking about and exposing how Asim Munir,
00:16:59in order to continue remaining in power,
00:17:01in office and in control,
00:17:03has been doing things that are not just detrimental to Pakistan and Pakistan interests,
00:17:09but also only furthering his own.
00:17:11He's very specifically said that all this was not just a terror outfit carrying out an anti-India operation,
00:17:20that it was Asim Munir who orchestrated this entire operation.
00:17:24And that's a major, major revelation where he's talking not just about Asim Munir,
00:17:29but also the powers that stand behind Asim Munir,
00:17:33and that is China,
00:17:34and why it is important to keep India-Pakistan hot right now
00:17:38when there's a tariff war happening between China and the United States of America.
00:17:42So huge revelations there,
00:17:45giving out details and talking about a military officer
00:17:48who's been a part of the entire establishment,
00:17:51talking about how Pakistan and Asim Munir wanting to be the next Ziaul Haq
00:17:57is using terrorism as an instrument of state policy.
00:18:00All right, very interesting.
00:18:02Geeta, thank you for getting us that exclusive conversation
00:18:05with Adil Raja from a former Pakistan officer.
00:18:09I will now also soon be joined by Gaurav Sawant,
00:18:12our managing editor,
00:18:12who tells us into the layers of Pakistan,
00:18:15and that big layer is,
00:18:16there is this all-powerful Pakistan military chief.
00:18:19Remember, that for Pakistan, this is a big position.
00:18:22Gaurav, then at a time when there are tensions escalating
00:18:25between the two countries, comes in,
00:18:27Lieutenant General Asim Malik,
00:18:29why do you believe that a DG of the ISI,
00:18:33most powerful position,
00:18:35also becomes national security advisor for Pakistan?
00:18:38It's a very major step taken by the Pakistan Army
00:18:41to appoint DG ISI
00:18:43as the country's next national security advisor.
00:18:46It's a clear indication that Pakistan Army
00:18:48is now even more directly consolidating
00:18:51its control over power.
00:18:54Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif,
00:18:56is always seen as someone who's playing second fiddle
00:18:59to Pakistan's Army Chief General Asim Munir,
00:19:02seen as the most powerful man in Pakistan.
00:19:04Now, with a Lieutenant General,
00:19:08General Malik being appointed
00:19:09as the national security advisor,
00:19:12the signal is very clear,
00:19:13Pakistan is not happy or the army is not happy
00:19:16in the manner in which Ishaq Dar,
00:19:18the Foreign Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister,
00:19:21has handled Pakistan's foreign policy,
00:19:23which is being seen as a major disaster right now,
00:19:26especially after Pahlgaam attacks,
00:19:28especially after there is tremendous pressure on Pakistan
00:19:30to act against radical Islamist terrorists
00:19:33in Pakistani territory
00:19:34and global support for India.
00:19:37Now, with the national security advisor
00:19:40being a three-star army general,
00:19:42it just goes on to indicate
00:19:44whether it's engaging with countries like China
00:19:46or the United States of America
00:19:48or powerful European bloc,
00:19:50the army directly will be engaging
00:19:52with these countries through the NSA
00:19:55and not through the foreign minister,
00:19:57who may perhaps sit on those meetings,
00:20:00but decisions are taken either by the army chief
00:20:02or now by the NSA.
00:20:03There have been military generals as NSAs
00:20:06even in the past,
00:20:07but the last NSA was a civilian.
00:20:10Right now, perhaps,
00:20:11there is also some talk
00:20:12that Pakistan is hoping to reach out
00:20:15through back channels,
00:20:17through other countries
00:20:18to reach out to India's NSA
00:20:20and have a back channel dialogue
00:20:22like NSAs have had in the past,
00:20:25away from the public glare.
00:20:28There is a lot of signaling
00:20:29that will happen,
00:20:31or posturing that will happen publicly,
00:20:32but Pakistan is hoping
00:20:34that they may be able to persuade India
00:20:37behind the scenes
00:20:38and that can only be done
00:20:40by someone who has the trust
00:20:42of the Pakistan army chief.
00:20:44General Asim Munir
00:20:45and General Malik are very close.
00:20:47General Malik has tremendous experience,
00:20:50especially in areas like Balochistan
00:20:53and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,
00:20:56having commanded both his brigade
00:20:58and his division
00:20:59in the restive areas.
00:21:01He is the ISI chief.
00:21:03Remember, the army chief earlier
00:21:05was the ISI chief.
00:21:06So, they have operated together
00:21:08even earlier in the GHQ
00:21:10in general headquarters
00:21:11in Ravalpindi.
00:21:13So, this is General Asim Munir
00:21:14in a way,
00:21:16directly consolidating
00:21:17all powers
00:21:19at the GHQ in Ravalpindi
00:21:21and not much power left
00:21:23in Islamabad,
00:21:24the real capital of Pakistan.
00:21:26Gaurav, Gheeta,
00:21:26thank you very much
00:21:27for these perspectives
00:21:28that are coming in.
00:21:29But remember,
00:21:30this is a very important
00:21:32turning point
00:21:33that we have right now
00:21:34where India stands.
00:21:35The world watched in horror
00:21:37as the video surfaced
00:21:38from Behelgam.
00:21:40Clear indication,
00:21:41no surprise,
00:21:42the pattern,
00:21:42Pakistan.
00:21:43And the world is uniting,
00:21:45not just in condemnation
00:21:46of the recent terror attack,
00:21:47but speaking directly
00:21:48to the Indian leadership,
00:21:49expressing support.
00:21:51America has urged
00:21:51India and Pakistan
00:21:52as a protocol
00:21:53to de-escalate tensions.
00:21:55Secretary of State,
00:21:56Mark Rubio,
00:21:56holding talks with both countries
00:21:58to stress regional stability.
00:21:59But remember,
00:22:00this comes after
00:22:01Donald Trump,
00:22:02the president of the country,
00:22:03other senior officials
00:22:04who are directly speaking
00:22:06to the Indian administration,
00:22:07expressing support.
00:22:08Defense Secretary,
00:22:09Pete Hexet,
00:22:10held talks with
00:22:11Raksha Mantri,
00:22:11Rajnath Singh.
00:22:12Hexet not only reaffirming
00:22:14Washington's full support
00:22:15for India's fight
00:22:17against terror,
00:22:17that's a big statement,
00:22:19and backing India's right
00:22:20to defend itself.
00:22:22So remember,
00:22:23from the top,
00:22:24from Donald Trump,
00:22:25then the Secretary of State,
00:22:26Mark Rubio.
00:22:27Then comes in,
00:22:28whether it's FBI Chief
00:22:29Kash Patel,
00:22:30Tulsi Gabbard,
00:22:31who's now heading
00:22:31the intelligence agencies,
00:22:32all of them,
00:22:33denouncing the attack
00:22:34that happened in India
00:22:35and standing with India.
00:22:37All of this is very significant,
00:22:39remember,
00:22:39because this in many ways
00:22:40could be a turn
00:22:41even for the USA.
00:22:43There was a point in time
00:22:44in history
00:22:45when Pakistan really thought,
00:22:47when America thought
00:22:48that Pakistan is the friend.
00:22:50Perhaps they're realizing
00:22:51that India really is.
00:22:53Pakistan continues
00:22:54to make hollow claims
00:22:55understandable
00:22:55as the world
00:22:57is realizing
00:22:58what the nation
00:22:59of Pakistan
00:22:59is really about.
00:23:01They are denying it.
00:23:02They are asking
00:23:03for independent investigation,
00:23:05asking why is Pakistan
00:23:06being blamed.
00:23:08Foreign Affairs editor,
00:23:09Geeta Mohan,
00:23:10continues to be with us
00:23:11on this.
00:23:12Geeta,
00:23:12it's important
00:23:13what we are looking at
00:23:14right now,
00:23:15especially with regard
00:23:16to how Pakistan
00:23:17is presently behaving.
00:23:18You tell me,
00:23:19how should one
00:23:20look at how
00:23:21the situation,
00:23:23the response
00:23:24that are coming in,
00:23:25not just from Pakistan,
00:23:26but from the world order.
00:23:28World leaders
00:23:29are calling on India
00:23:30and, of course,
00:23:31Pakistan as well,
00:23:32to de-escalate tensions.
00:23:34There are interests
00:23:35involved,
00:23:36stakeholders
00:23:37who do not want
00:23:38to see escalation
00:23:39in the South Asian region
00:23:41because it harms
00:23:42their interests,
00:23:43be it America
00:23:44that is at war
00:23:45with China
00:23:45or China
00:23:46that has interests
00:23:46within Pakistan,
00:23:48stakes within Pakistan.
00:23:49But the fact
00:23:50of the matter
00:23:51is that India's message
00:23:52and signal
00:23:53is very clear
00:23:54to the world,
00:23:55particularly to the West
00:23:56and to the United States
00:23:57of America,
00:23:58that this attack
00:24:01on India,
00:24:02on Indian soil,
00:24:04is not going to go
00:24:05unnoticed,
00:24:07unspared,
00:24:08and India will not
00:24:09take this lying down.
00:24:11There's a very clear message
00:24:12that Pakistan
00:24:13and those who have
00:24:14backed these territories
00:24:15will have to pay
00:24:16a very, very heavy price
00:24:18for the lives lost
00:24:19in Pahalgam.
00:24:21And that's the message
00:24:21that India sent across
00:24:23to the United States
00:24:24of America.
00:24:24Therefore,
00:24:25while they saw de-escalation,
00:24:27they also went ahead
00:24:28as allies
00:24:29and strategic partners
00:24:30and have said
00:24:31that they will support India
00:24:33in whatever decision
00:24:34India takes.
00:24:35The two important calls
00:24:36that took place
00:24:37between Defence Secretary
00:24:39Hegseth
00:24:39and his counterpart,
00:24:41Defence Minister
00:24:42Rajnath Singh,
00:24:43and then yesterday,
00:24:44another call
00:24:45between Secretary
00:24:46of State
00:24:46Mark Rubio
00:24:47and External Affairs
00:24:49Minister Jai Shankar.
00:24:50But the message
00:24:50from India
00:24:51is very clear
00:24:51that this time around,
00:24:53instead of asking
00:24:54India to de-escalate
00:24:55tensions,
00:24:56it is time
00:24:57that Pakistan
00:24:58is reined in.
00:24:59My only hope
00:25:01from the world order
00:25:02is perhaps they realise
00:25:03once and for all
00:25:03that you cannot play
00:25:04both sides here.
00:25:05You need to decide
00:25:06if India is fighting
00:25:07against terror,
00:25:08how are they really
00:25:09going to jump in
00:25:09and support?
00:25:10Geeta, thank you very much
00:25:11for your perspective
00:25:12and updates on that.
00:25:12America's Vice President
00:25:15J.D.
00:25:15Wance urging to avoid
00:25:16broader regional conflicts.
00:25:18That's the latest
00:25:18that's coming in
00:25:19from the United States
00:25:20of America.
00:25:21The Vice President
00:25:22says hoping for
00:25:23a cooperation
00:25:24from Pakistan
00:25:25as well.
00:25:26US Defence Secretary
00:25:27pledging support
00:25:28to India.
00:25:28Remember,
00:25:29this is very important.
00:25:30Unlike any other time
00:25:31in the past few decades
00:25:33even,
00:25:34look at how the USA
00:25:35has been consistently
00:25:36reporting every day.
00:25:38There's a new statement
00:25:38that is coming in,
00:25:39whether it's starting
00:25:40from Donald Trump himself
00:25:42to the administration
00:25:43officials,
00:25:44Kash Patel,
00:25:44Tulsi Gabbard,
00:25:45then the Secretary of State,
00:25:47Defence Secretary more
00:25:48and then comes in
00:25:49Vice President again.
00:25:50Let's listen in
00:25:50to what is J.D.
00:25:51Wance saying.
00:25:54Sure,
00:25:55I'm worried about
00:25:56any time you see
00:25:57a hotspot breaking out,
00:25:58especially between
00:25:58two nuclear powers.
00:26:00We've obviously been
00:26:01in close contact
00:26:02with our friends
00:26:02in India and Pakistan.
00:26:04Our hope here
00:26:05is that India
00:26:06responds to this
00:26:08terrorist attack
00:26:08in a way
00:26:10that doesn't lead
00:26:11to a broader
00:26:12regional conflict.
00:26:13And we hope, frankly,
00:26:14that Pakistan,
00:26:14to the extent
00:26:15that they're responsible,
00:26:16cooperates with India
00:26:18to make sure
00:26:19that the terrorists,
00:26:20sometimes operating
00:26:21in their territory,
00:26:22are hunted down
00:26:23and dealt with.
00:26:24That's how we hope
00:26:24this unfolds.
00:26:25We're obviously
00:26:26in close contact.
00:26:27We'll see what happens.
00:26:27I'm worried about
00:26:28any time you see
00:26:29a hotspot breaking out,
00:26:30especially between
00:26:31two nuclear powers.
00:26:32We've obviously been
00:26:33in close contact
00:26:34with our friends
00:26:34in India and Pakistan.
00:26:36Our hope here
00:26:37is that India
00:26:38responds to this
00:26:40terrorist attack
00:26:41in a way
00:26:42that doesn't lead
00:26:43to a broader
00:26:44regional conflict.
00:26:45And we hope, frankly,
00:26:46that Pakistan,
00:26:47to the extent
00:26:47that they're responsible,
00:26:49cooperates with India
00:26:50to make sure
00:26:51that the terrorists,
00:26:52sometimes operating
00:26:53in their territory,
00:26:54are hunted down
00:26:55and dealt with.
00:26:56If you listen carefully
00:26:58to what J.D. Vance
00:26:59has been saying,
00:27:00who's clearly been
00:27:01a friend to India,
00:27:02who has had direct
00:27:04personal meetings
00:27:05as well with Prime Minister
00:27:06Darendra Modi,
00:27:08says that we are in touch
00:27:10with our friends in India.
00:27:12We hope that they'll be able
00:27:13to ensure that the terrorists
00:27:15are neutralized.
00:27:16But remember,
00:27:17as one of the big
00:27:17global superpowers,
00:27:18the USA,
00:27:19as is part of protocol,
00:27:21is saying that,
00:27:22I hope that India
00:27:23and Pakistan
00:27:23can resolve it
00:27:24and together.
00:27:26But,
00:27:26very categorical statement
00:27:28that has come in
00:27:28from the United States
00:27:29of America is,
00:27:30that they stand united
00:27:31with India
00:27:32in this fight
00:27:32against terror.
00:27:34The USA also
00:27:35not doing if and but
00:27:36when it comes to
00:27:37at least the
00:27:38Pahlgaab massacre.
00:27:39This is, remember,
00:27:40in many ways,
00:27:41a massive shift.
00:27:42The USA,
00:27:43especially the
00:27:44previous administration,
00:27:45would often tiptoe.
00:27:46There have been,
00:27:48in the past few years,
00:27:49we have seen how
00:27:50the USA would
00:27:51try and get
00:27:52closer to Pakistan.
00:27:54India was often
00:27:55left in the lurch.
00:27:56But if anything
00:27:57that can tell us
00:27:58from the past few days,
00:28:00especially since
00:28:00the Pahlgaab massacre,
00:28:01the carnage we saw
00:28:02in JNK,
00:28:03is that USA's
00:28:05top administration
00:28:06officials,
00:28:06I begin with Donald Trump,
00:28:07the President speaking
00:28:08to Prime Minister Modi,
00:28:10then the agency,
00:28:11the FBI chief,
00:28:12all of them
00:28:13consistently one after
00:28:14another giving out
00:28:15statements in support.
00:28:16But remember,
00:28:17that's basically
00:28:17what USA can do.
00:28:18It cannot go beyond
00:28:19that right now.
00:28:21Joining me,
00:28:21Shivani Sharma
00:28:22for the latest on that.
00:28:24Shivani J.D.
00:28:25Wance's latest statement.
00:28:26Of course,
00:28:26they want regional stability.
00:28:29India has always
00:28:30wanted that.
00:28:31But we also realize
00:28:32the rogue nation
00:28:32that is our neighbor.
00:28:33How do you see
00:28:34the USA's response
00:28:35in the past 10 days
00:28:37since the JNK card?
00:28:38Pooja, in the past 10 days,
00:28:42we've seen almost every day
00:28:44one or the other
00:28:44statement coming in
00:28:45from the United States,
00:28:46beginning right from
00:28:47the President talking
00:28:48to Prime Minister
00:28:49Narendra Modi,
00:28:50then Tulsi Gabbard,
00:28:52then Kash Patel,
00:28:53and J.D. Wance
00:28:54also making
00:28:55timely statements.
00:28:57And yes,
00:28:59parts of India
00:28:59and United States
00:29:01have all in this regard.
00:29:02But the latest statement
00:29:04about J.D. Wance,
00:29:06the Vice President
00:29:07of the United States,
00:29:08remember he was here
00:29:09in India
00:29:09when this attack happened
00:29:11and he has witnessed
00:29:12the reactions of India,
00:29:13the worries
00:29:14and concerns of India.
00:29:15And now he has said
00:29:16that Pakistan
00:29:17must cooperate
00:29:18in hunting error.
00:29:21And he is acknowledging
00:29:22that this terror
00:29:24comes from Pakistan.
00:29:27Stay on with me, Shivani,
00:29:28because I do believe
00:29:30and I hope
00:29:30that the world community
00:29:31realises this time
00:29:33what India has been
00:29:34fighting against
00:29:35for so long
00:29:36and needs the world's support.
00:29:38Shivani, stay on with me
00:29:39because I want to bring to you
00:29:40the world is uniting
00:29:41in condemnation
00:29:42of the recent terror attack
00:29:43in Pahlgham.
00:29:45Look at how the USA,
00:29:46one of the,
00:29:47clearly the biggest superpower
00:29:48of the world right now,
00:29:50one, urging India
00:29:51and Pakistan
00:29:52to de-escalate tensions,
00:29:53Secretary of State
00:29:54Marco Rubio,
00:29:55holding talks
00:29:56with India and Pakistan
00:29:57to stress
00:29:58on regional stability.
00:29:59In the latest,
00:30:01Defense Secretary
00:30:02Pete Hegseth
00:30:03held talks
00:30:03with Defense Minister
00:30:04Rajnath Singh.
00:30:05Hegseth won
00:30:06reaffirming
00:30:07Washington's full support
00:30:08for India's fight
00:30:09against terror
00:30:10but also backing
00:30:11India's right
00:30:12to defend itself.
00:30:13This is a very important
00:30:15statement that has come
00:30:16in from the USA.
00:30:17But let's begin
00:30:18one by one.
00:30:18Remember,
00:30:19U.S. President Donald Trump
00:30:20did not waste any time.
00:30:21Not only put out
00:30:22a statement of condemnation
00:30:23but spoke directly
00:30:24to Prime Minister
00:30:25Narendra Modi,
00:30:26Secretary of State
00:30:27Marco Rubio
00:30:27urging Pakistan
00:30:28to denounce
00:30:29the attack
00:30:29to asking
00:30:30fully cooperate
00:30:31with India
00:30:32with this regard.
00:30:34Also remember,
00:30:34FBI Director
00:30:35Kash Patel
00:30:36pledging continued
00:30:36support in this
00:30:38fight against terrorism
00:30:39and said
00:30:39it is a reminder
00:30:41of what is happening
00:30:42across the world.
00:30:43Tulsi Gabbard,
00:30:44who is heading now
00:30:45the intelligence agencies,
00:30:46vowed to stand
00:30:47with India
00:30:47in pursuing
00:30:48those responsible.
00:30:50Huge statements
00:30:51from America.
00:30:52Pakistan continues
00:30:53to make hollow claims.
00:30:54It's of course
00:30:55consistently putting out
00:30:57the denial claims
00:30:58that are coming
00:30:58and it's understandable.
00:31:00It's rattled.
00:31:00It's in panic mode
00:31:01especially how
00:31:02the world has reacted.
00:31:04But can this be
00:31:04a moment
00:31:05of unity
00:31:06across the world
00:31:07and to stand
00:31:08with India
00:31:09this time?
00:31:11World leaders
00:31:11are calling on India
00:31:13and of course
00:31:14Pakistan as well
00:31:15to de-escalate tensions.
00:31:17There are interests
00:31:18involved,
00:31:19stakeholders
00:31:20who do not want
00:31:21to see escalation
00:31:22in the South Asian region
00:31:24because it harms
00:31:25their interests.
00:31:26Be it America
00:31:27that is at war
00:31:27with China
00:31:28or China
00:31:29that has interests
00:31:29within Pakistan,
00:31:31stakes within Pakistan.
00:31:32But the fact
00:31:33of the matter
00:31:33is that India's message
00:31:35and signal
00:31:35is very clear
00:31:36to the world,
00:31:38particularly to the West
00:31:39and to the United States
00:31:40of America,
00:31:41that this attack
00:31:43on India,
00:31:45on Indian soil,
00:31:47is not going
00:31:47to go unnoticed,
00:31:49unspared
00:31:50and India
00:31:52will not take
00:31:52this lying down.
00:31:54There's a very clear
00:31:54message that Pakistan
00:31:56and those
00:31:57who have backed
00:31:58these terrorists
00:31:58will have to pay
00:31:59a very, very heavy price
00:32:01for the lives
00:32:02lost in Pahalgam.
00:32:03And that's the message
00:32:04that India sent across
00:32:06to the United States
00:32:07of America.
00:32:07Therefore,
00:32:08while they saw
00:32:09de-escalation,
00:32:10they also went ahead
00:32:11as allies
00:32:12and strategic partners
00:32:13and have said
00:32:14that they will support
00:32:15India in whatever
00:32:16decision India takes.
00:32:18The two important calls
00:32:19that took place
00:32:20between Defense Secretary
00:32:22Hegseth
00:32:22and his counterpart,
00:32:24Defense Minister
00:32:25Rajnath Singh.
00:32:26And then yesterday,
00:32:27another call
00:32:28between Secretary of State
00:32:29Mark Rubio
00:32:30and External Affairs
00:32:31Minister Jai Shankar.
00:32:33But the message
00:32:33from India
00:32:34is very clear
00:32:34that this time around,
00:32:36instead of asking India
00:32:37to de-escalate tensions,
00:32:39it is time
00:32:40that Pakistan
00:32:41is reined in.
00:32:49I have big news
00:32:50coming in
00:32:51with regard to
00:32:51India-America collaboration
00:32:53and how.
00:32:54Listen carefully.
00:32:55The USA is set
00:32:56to deliver military equipment
00:32:58worth 13 crore rupees.
00:33:01India is set to buy
00:33:02the Sea Vision software
00:33:04and analytic support.
00:33:06This is America's aid
00:33:07to bolster India's
00:33:09maritime might.
00:33:10Now remember,
00:33:11this is not about
00:33:11an emergency situation,
00:33:13but this will definitely
00:33:14add to the fleet,
00:33:15definitely add to
00:33:16our military power.
00:33:17And this comes,
00:33:18viewer, if you remember,
00:33:19right after France
00:33:21and India
00:33:22making a deal
00:33:22when it comes
00:33:23to the Rafale Marine jets.
00:33:26The State Department
00:33:26has made a determination
00:33:28approving a possible
00:33:28foreign military sale
00:33:30to India
00:33:30of Indo-Pacific
00:33:32maritime domain awareness
00:33:33and equipment
00:33:34relative to that
00:33:35about $131 million
00:33:38in total.
00:33:40The Defense Security
00:33:40Cooperation Agency
00:33:41has delivered
00:33:42the required certification,
00:33:44has notified the Congress
00:33:45of the possible sale
00:33:46today.
00:33:47So stay tuned
00:33:48and we'll update you
00:33:49as in when
00:33:49a confirmation
00:33:50comes on this.
00:33:51Remember,
00:33:51you first heard it
00:33:52on India Today.
00:33:54The government of India
00:33:54had requested
00:33:55to buy the Sea Vision
00:33:56software equipment
00:33:58and this is in the
00:33:59maritime security issue
00:34:01primarily that will come in.
00:34:02I want to immediately
00:34:03bring in
00:34:03Shivani Sharma
00:34:04closely tracks
00:34:05the Defense Forces.
00:34:07This is interesting,
00:34:08Shivani, isn't it?
00:34:08After France,
00:34:10then comes in
00:34:11India and the USA
00:34:12collaboration
00:34:13and we're looking
00:34:14at the sea here
00:34:15in both countries
00:34:17that are going to sell us
00:34:19these equipment.
00:34:20Tell us more about
00:34:21the details of it.
00:34:24Pooja,
00:34:24we must understand
00:34:25that the muscle flexing
00:34:27in the Indo-Pacific region
00:34:28by China
00:34:29has been a common concern
00:34:31for India
00:34:32and United States
00:34:33and that's why
00:34:34we've seen
00:34:34a number of deliberations
00:34:36in this regard
00:34:37and this latest
00:34:38Sea Vision software
00:34:40will be enhancing
00:34:41India's maritime power
00:34:42that will not only
00:34:43safeguard the interests
00:34:45of India
00:34:46but also United States
00:34:47and the coordination too.
00:34:50And here,
00:34:50the State Department
00:34:51has made a determination
00:34:52approving a possible
00:34:53foreign military sale.
00:34:55So,
00:34:55these are the initial details,
00:34:56Pooja,
00:34:57of $131 million
00:34:59to India.
00:35:01This is the estimated cost.
00:35:02Of course,
00:35:03the final deal
00:35:04will come later
00:35:05and remember,
00:35:06not only to Rafal Jais Pooja,
00:35:09last year
00:35:09in the month of October,
00:35:10India has also
00:35:12sealed a big deal
00:35:13with the United States
00:35:14for MQ-9B drones
00:35:16for the Indian Navy
00:35:17and these are the
00:35:18deliberations
00:35:19that go on
00:35:20for months
00:35:21and together,
00:35:23India and United States
00:35:24are sealing
00:35:25these defense ties
00:35:26to make the partnership
00:35:28stronger,
00:35:29make both the country's
00:35:30navy
00:35:30and the maritime
00:35:32might stronger.
00:35:34Nisharma,
00:35:35we'll be tracking
00:35:35the latest on that.
00:35:36Shivani,
00:35:37continue to stay with us
00:35:38because we are looking
00:35:39at another addition
00:35:40to our military power,
00:35:42the USA
00:35:42and the country of France
00:35:44as well,
00:35:45adding on to it.
00:35:46Remember,
00:35:46this could perhaps
00:35:47take some time
00:35:48by the time it gets
00:35:49added to the fleet
00:35:50but it's a reminder
00:35:51that clearly,
00:35:52at this juncture,
00:35:53India intends to add on
00:35:55to its military equipments
00:35:56and how.
00:36:00But eventually,
00:36:01all eyes are on
00:36:02Prime Minister Narendra Modi,
00:36:04Home Minister Amit Shah.
00:36:05What is India's response
00:36:07going to be against Pakistan
00:36:08and when will it come?
00:36:10India has been in mourning,
00:36:11in grief,
00:36:12there's distress,
00:36:13anger,
00:36:13a lot of questions
00:36:14still unanswered
00:36:15and perhaps
00:36:16that's one of the reasons
00:36:17that Home Minister Amit Shah
00:36:18himself taking the time
00:36:20and opportunity
00:36:20to reassure families
00:36:22of the victims
00:36:23and all Indians
00:36:24and he's very clear,
00:36:25he says,
00:36:26do not think
00:36:27that India simply moved on.
00:36:29Calling the 22nd April assault
00:36:31one of the worst attacks
00:36:32after 2019 Pulwama attack
00:36:34saying there is
00:36:35unwavering commitment
00:36:35of the government
00:36:36to uproot terror
00:36:37from Indian soil
00:36:38and that every terrorist
00:36:40will be eliminated.
00:36:41Let's listen in
00:36:42to Home Minister Amit Shah
00:36:43and just barely days ago,
00:36:44what did Prime Minister Modi say?
00:36:46India will identify,
00:36:51track and punish
00:36:54every terrorist
00:36:56and their backer.
00:37:01India's spirit
00:37:02will never be broken
00:37:03by terrorism.
00:37:06Terrorism will not go
00:37:09unpunished.
00:37:11every effort
00:37:14will be made
00:37:14to ensure
00:37:16that justice
00:37:17is done.
00:37:18when the people
00:37:19will be made
00:37:20to ensure
00:37:21our fight
00:37:22will continue
00:37:24and the people
00:37:25who have
00:37:26a crime
00:37:28that
00:37:28will be made
00:37:28in the end.
00:37:29The people
00:37:30who have
00:37:30a crime
00:37:31will be made
00:37:32in the end.
00:37:33India Today's Kabal Jeet Sandhu has been on the ground in JNK, especially in South
00:38:03Kashmir, tracking all the updates. She joins me this morning on the First Up. Kabal Jeet,
00:38:07good morning. It's been 10 days on. A lot of rightly questions are being asked to the
00:38:12government as well. Why hasn't the response come? Is it only going to be diplomatic decisions?
00:38:16How are you picking up about, one, the government response politically, but also on the ground?
00:38:22The hunt is on for terrorists. What is happening on that front? And especially the raids that
00:38:26we hear about that are happening across Kashmir Valley.
00:38:33Pooja, as you rightly pointed, it's been 10 days. Now, there are two bits to it. One
00:38:38is on the hinterland, especially near Anantnag area, where multiple operations are currently
00:38:44on. And this is like finding a needle in a haystack. There are a group of four, even perhaps
00:38:49eight terrorists, which are present in South Kashmir. So the cordon and search operation
00:38:54has been laid not just in a specific area, but a wide cordon of several kilometers, which
00:39:00could go into several of the districts, Shopia, Kulgaam, Pulwama, and even Anantnag. So
00:39:05this is a larger cordon. Meanwhile, the terrorists could be hiding in cave-like cavities. They seem
00:39:11to have their own sort of supplies. But it does, one, point towards weak intelligence networks,
00:39:16something that can be made more robust. It also talks about how there seems to be lack
00:39:22of secrecy as far as security forces are concerned. Again, something they can work upon.
00:39:27But now remember, as far as Pahlgaam itself is concerned, this is where it was more like
00:39:32a tourist town. And that is why what we saw was there was a massive presence of Jammu
00:39:36Kashmir police. The rest of the forces were behind to ensure that the tourists really enjoy
00:39:41the summer season. But this is something that we simply cannot take for granted when Pakistan
00:39:46is a neighbor to India. And that is why what we've seen is a dastardly attack take place.
00:39:51Meanwhile, it could take many more days because one, it's an uphill task. The forces going
00:39:56up towards mountainous regions, some of them snow clad at this point of time. They don't want any
00:40:01sort of casualties to take place. So they're inching very carefully forward. But yes, the
00:40:06operation will be scouted in all the hills and nearby regions. This is a forested area. The second
00:40:12is the sort of response, the retribution that India has been waiting for. This would be a surprise
00:40:18choice. At this point of time, what we know from Pakistan is they seem to be rather prepared.
00:40:23So obviously, one marking the target area and surprise action by the Indian armed forces,
00:40:29a free hand given by the Prime Minister. All this is something worked upon. But remember,
00:40:34the timing has to be done very carefully, which is to advantage of India. And that is something
00:40:39which has been left up to the armed forces.
00:40:42Valid points made, Kamalji. Thank you very much. For now, Kamalji, remember, is tracking all the
00:40:46latest. And we're ensuring, of course, needless to say, no security details being put out. But remember,
00:40:51armed forces are on the job. They are in those dense jungles. It's a difficult terrain to operate
00:40:55in. And the precision with which this massacre was sadly successfully carried out reflects towards
00:41:01how hard trained the terrorists were, not just with regard to carnage, remember, but to be able to
00:41:06evade capture. It's been 10 days. Families, all Indians, are waiting to see those terrorists dead and
00:41:13hung. Kamalji, thank you very much. For now, I'll keep coming back to you. But here's how the big
00:41:18revelation has come. Now, there's no doubt that Pakistan has organized, carried out,
00:41:22orchestrated this carnage. But now comes a revelation, a massive, massive claim from a
00:41:27former Pakistan army officer. And it directly knocks on the door of the military chief.
00:41:33In this explosive interview with India Today, Major Adil Raja is alleging that the
00:41:37Pahlgaam terror attack was orchestrated on the direct orders of the Pakistan military chief.
00:41:42That this is now a fight for power for General Asim Murray. At a time like this, he's claiming
00:41:47the motives of this person runs deep. He wants to consolidate power. And remember, Pakistan
00:41:52has seen in the past few decades, all two powerful military chiefs who wanted political control
00:41:59too. So listen in now to what is this former Pakistan army officer Adil Raja saying with regard
00:42:05to ISI, military, and is there any sort of differences cropping up between the two? Listen in.
00:42:17Are there telltale signs of Pakistani establishment's involvement in this attack or not?
00:42:25I would stand by my information, which has been provided to me by my sources in the Pakistani
00:42:31intelligence community who claim that the Pahlgaam terror attack was orchestrated, ordered by the
00:42:40Pakistani army chief general Asim Munir for his own personal interest. That is what I still, you know,
00:42:48I still say the same thing. But there are many other factors behind it. What are his personal
00:42:54interests? Those needs to be addressed. And then, you know, there is a philosophy behind it that needs
00:43:02to be discussed in detail. But yes, I stand by my information that it was a personal venture
00:43:09irrespective of the ISI officers telling General Asim Munir not to go ahead with it because of the
00:43:16repercussions. He still went ahead with it after, you know, following the very old philosophy, I would
00:43:25say, which our army officers love, you know, talking about a philosophy of a thousand cuts,
00:43:31you know, and it has been replied by Dr. Amarjit Singh in 2014 by Indian defense general. But well,
00:43:40we will discuss it if you'll allow me later. But yes, it was a personal venture of General Asim Munir.
00:43:45That's a huge claim, ladies and gentlemen, keep no doubt about it. Remember, yes, he's a former
00:43:54Pakistan army major, but also what he's saying sounds and makes sense because of the pattern that
00:44:00Pakistan has shown in its history. Geeta Mohan joins us for the latest on that, our foreign affairs
00:44:05editor. She's got us that explosive revelation. How should one see this statement, the ramifications of
00:44:12it, the consequence and the claim that General Asim Munir wants to have all that power to himself,
00:44:18especially after carrying out such massacres? Well, Pakistan will continue to remain in denial.
00:44:25The fact that Pakistan says it was not involved at all and has sought a probe into this entire
00:44:32Pahlkam terror attack. But the fact of the matter is that this is a man who is a third generation
00:44:36military officer from Pakistan. He's living in exile in London because he spoke truth to power. And he's
00:44:45speaking truth to power yet again, talking about and exposing how Asim Munir, in order to continue
00:44:51remaining in power, in office and in control, has been doing things that are not just detrimental to
00:44:58Pakistan and Pakistan interests, but also only furthering his own. He's very specifically said
00:45:04that all this was not just a terror outfit carrying out an anti-India operation, that it was
00:45:12Asim Munir who orchestrated this entire operation. And that's a major, major revelation where he's
00:45:19talking not just about Asim Munir, but also the powers that stand behind Asim Munir, and that is China,
00:45:25and why it is important to keep India-Pakistan hot right now when there's a tariff war happening
00:45:31between China and the United States of America. So huge revelations there, giving out details and
00:45:38talking about a military officer who's been a part of the entire establishment, talking about how
00:45:44Pakistan and Asim Munir, wanting to be the next Ziaul Haq, is using terrorism as an instrument of state
00:45:51policy.
00:45:52But Geetha, while I was also listening to this interview, what caught my attention, it's not just
00:45:57about Pakistan and military. He also mentioned China. He said there's a China-Pakistan nexus
00:46:01here when it comes to this terror attack. What does one make of that at a juncture when
00:46:07we think it's just Pakistan, while we need to also look at the border?
00:46:12Well, it is a very important perspective that he's shared. And he's saying that he's been
00:46:18speaking to officers who he still is in touch with within Pakistan. There are massive stakes
00:46:25of China in Pakistan, and China does not want that one hurt. Secondly, when it comes to the
00:46:33America-China war, India can be a huge solution to America in this war, and they do not want that.
00:46:42They want India to be focused on something as serious as a terror attack. And that's why,
00:46:50according to him, China has been backing and equipping Pakistan to ensure that this front
00:46:57between India and Pakistan remains hot, so that India cannot focus on what it should be focusing
00:47:03on, development and becoming an alternative to China in the global supply chain.
00:47:08Gita, thank you very much for getting us that explosive interview and the perspective on
00:47:13it. In fact, I want to make an addition here. What Adil Raja is saying actually makes more
00:47:19sense because of the decisions recently Pakistan has taken. A Director General ISI, anywhere too
00:47:25powerful position for that country, he also gets to become the National Security Advisor,
00:47:31Lieutenant General Malik there. The sudden decision, the emergency about it, especially with
00:47:37escalating tensions with India. In many ways, he will be the one advising the government
00:47:41on how to go about with the misinformation campaign against India, but also perhaps to
00:47:47carry out any kind of reaction, response and more if India goes ahead with a military strike.
00:47:53Let's take that question now to India Today's Managing Editor, Gaurav Savant, joining me.
00:47:57Gaurav, sudden appointment, he's already DGISI, becomes the National Security Advisor as well.
00:48:04Can you explain that significance? It's a very major step taken by the Pakistan Army to appoint
00:48:09DGISI as the country's next National Security Advisor. It's a clear indication that Pakistan
00:48:16Army is now even more directly consolidating its control over power. Pakistan's Prime Minister
00:48:22Shahbaz Sharif is always seen as someone who's playing second fiddle to Pakistan's Army Chief
00:48:28of General Asim Munir, seen as the most powerful man in Pakistan. Now, with a Lieutenant General
00:48:35Malik being appointed as the National Security Advisor, the signal is very clear. Pakistan is
00:48:42not happy or the Army is not happy in the manner in which Ishaq Dar, the Foreign Minister and the
00:48:47Deputy Prime Minister, has handled Pakistan's foreign policy, which is being seen as a major disaster
00:48:53right now, especially after Pahalgam attack, especially after there is tremendous pressure
00:48:57on Pakistan to act against radical Islamist terrorists in Pakistani territory and global
00:49:03support for India. Now, with the National Security Advisor being a three-star Army general, it just goes
00:49:10on to indicate whether it's engaging with countries like China or the United States of America or powerful
00:49:16European bloc. The Army directly will be engaging with these countries through the NSA and not through
00:49:24the Foreign Minister, who may perhaps sit on those meetings, but decisions are taken either by the
00:49:29Army Chief or now by the NSA. There have been military generals as NSAs even in the past, but the last NSA was a civilian.
00:49:38Right now, perhaps, there is also some talk that Pakistan is hoping to reach out through back channels,
00:49:44through other countries to reach out to India's NSA and have a back-channel dialogue like NSAs have had in the past,
00:49:53away from the public glare. There is a lot of signalling that will happen or posturing that will happen publicly,
00:50:00but Pakistan is hoping that they may be able to persuade India behind the scenes and that can only be done by
00:50:08someone who has the trust of the Pakistan Army Chief. General Asim Munir and General Malik are very close.
00:50:14General Malik has tremendous experience, especially in areas like Balochistan and in Khaybar Pakhtunkhwa,
00:50:23having commanded both his brigade and his division in the restive areas. He's ISI Chief. Remember, the Army Chief
00:50:32earlier was the ISI Chief. So, they've operated together even earlier in the GHQ and General Headquarters in
00:50:39Rawalpindi. So, this is General Asim Munir in a way directly consolidating all powers at the GHQ in
00:50:48Rawalpindi and not much power left in Islamabad, the real capital of Pakistan.
00:50:53And just to remind the viewer that the General Asim Munir, military chief, was the DGISI when
00:51:01Pulwama terror attack happened in the Kashmir Valley. Is there a pattern too hard to ignore? Gaurav,
00:51:07thank you very much for now. Now, right now in Pakistan, two men are of most significance. One,
00:51:13is General Asim Munir, the Pakistan military chief, and two, Lieutenant General Asim Malik, the DGISI presently,
00:51:20who gets to become the National Security Advisor. For Pakistan, these are possibly the most powerful
00:51:26designation, even more than the Prime Minister and the President. Here's a profile. Who is
00:51:30Lieutenant General Malik?
00:51:39Lieutenant General Asim Malik, the current Director General of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence,
00:51:45or ISI, is also now the country's National Security Advisor. Asim Malik has emerged as one of the most
00:51:52influential figures in Pakistan's military hierarchy, and now sits at the nerve center of
00:51:57Pakistan's internal security and foreign intelligence apparatus. Appointed ISI chief in September last year,
00:52:06Malik already controls intelligence operations along the line of control,
00:52:10and is widely believed to manage Pakistan's covert support for terror groups. Now, with this new role,
00:52:17he's also in charge of advising the government on its next steps in these tense times.
00:52:24Seen as a key player in Pakistan's power structure, Malik is expected to retire in October 2025,
00:52:30just a month before Army Chief General Asim Munir.
00:52:33Asim Malik's rise comes at a time when the Pakistan Army is dealing with internal divisions,
00:52:42challenges from former Prime Minister Imran Khan's supporters, and increasing international scrutiny.
00:52:49His command over ISI operations from Balochistan to Afghanistan has given him considerable leverage.
00:52:56Insiders suggest that Malik is being positioned as a key contender for higher office within the
00:53:01military hierarchy, possibly even in line for Army Chief down the road, depending on upcoming reshuffles.
00:53:09His growing stature is reportedly causing unease among rival factions within the Army's senior leadership.
00:53:17Bureau Report, India Today.
00:53:23Amid all of this, remember India has taken decisions. Of course, while a bigger response is awaited,
00:53:27what has India done with regard to airspace? India has decided to shut the airspace for Pakistan
00:53:34airlines. What does it mean for Pakistan with regard to operational costs, resources, time and more?
00:53:39How is Islamabad responding to that? Here, more in this report.
00:53:50Even as tensions between India and Pakistan soar, the skies above Islamabad remain strangely quiet.
00:53:58In a retaliatory move following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, India has shut its airspace to
00:54:04Pakistani aircraft. The move comes after Islamabad imposed a similar ban on Indian carriers.
00:54:11But here is the twist. Pakistan will be feeling the sting even more.
00:54:18Pakistan International Airlines has been forced to reroute six weekly flights from Islamabad and Lahore
00:54:25to Kuala Lumpur and is now flying a much longer, costlier route via China.
00:54:32Avoiding Indian skies means detouring around the Tibetan plateau, adding nearly three hours of flying time.
00:54:41Longer routes mean more fuel and an increase in travel time by two hours.
00:54:46The route change can also cause flight delays, thereby leading to reduced frequency of Pakistan flights.
00:54:55High operation costs and more fuel demand will lead to massive surge in ticket prices for Pakistan.
00:55:04But that is not all. Pakistan's own airspace ban on Indian airlines is backfiring.
00:55:10Overflight fees are a crucial revenue stream and Islamabad is losing around $232,000 every single day.
00:55:18In fact, a loss of over $50 million is projected.
00:55:22Remember, a similar closure in 2019 after the Pulwama attack cost Pakistan nearly $100 million,
00:55:32with daily deficits hitting $760,000.
00:55:38So, while Pakistan hoped to make a political point by closing its skies,
00:55:42it may have grounded its own economic interest instead.
00:55:49Bureau Report, India Today.
00:55:51A chilling murder in Mangaluru has sent shockwaves.
00:55:55A Rowdy Sheetha, a former Bajranggal member, appears to have been killed in how?
00:56:00Outrage over Suha Shetty's murder in Mangaluru.
00:56:03Remember that this man was also, though, accused in a 2022 Fazil murder case.
00:56:08But this is complete lawlessness.
00:56:10Anyone can kill, get away.
00:56:14Remember at a time when Shetty was accused of killing BJP leader Netaru's killer?
00:56:19So, remember, murder for murder for murder appears to be happening in Mangaluru in Karnataka.
00:56:26It's a full-on web as it appears.
00:56:29A large number of Hindu activists and from the Hindu groups have gathered outside the hospital.
00:56:34There are heightened tensions as well.
00:56:36Details coming in.
00:56:37Anagar Keshav joins me for the latest on that.
00:56:40But let's listen in what the senior officers on the ground are saying.
00:56:44Yesterday, late evening, there was a murder of one Suha Shetty.
00:56:52After that, things have a little bit tense in this city.
00:56:57We have made a suitable bandha bus.
00:56:59Post-mortem is going on.
00:57:00After that, cremation arrangements will be done at Vatwada.
00:57:05So, we request all the citizens of Mangaluru to maintain peace and cooperate with the police department.
00:57:12We have identified the accused.
00:57:15So, our teams are on to search for them.
00:57:18Very soon, we will do the good results.
00:57:22My colleague, Anagar Keshav is joining for the latest on that from Mangaluru.
00:57:26Anagar, what exactly happened?
00:57:28It just sounds like one murder after another, revenge killings.
00:57:32What are the cops doing about it?
00:57:38Well, at this point, the cops are saying that they do have some clue regarding the identities
00:57:42of the accused and an investigation is underway to sort of really apprehend the accused.
00:57:49While this case appears to be, you know, a thing of revenge killing,
00:57:53which all started with Praveen Netaru, then subsequently Fazil was murdered.
00:57:57Now, as a revenge killing, Suhas Shetty being murdered, although it appears like a case of
00:58:02revenge killing, the police say that they are yet to assert in that investigation is underway
00:58:08as to really find out why the murder exactly happened.
00:58:11But really connecting the dots, Pooja, it appears that this is a case of revenge killing.
00:58:15Because remember what happened with Praveen Netaru, after his murder, Fazil was murdered.
00:58:21And Suhas Shetty was one of the men who was allegedly involved in Fazil's murder.
00:58:26And now, Suhas Shetty has himself been murdered.
00:58:30The identities of accused are yet to be ascertained.
00:58:33In fact, his body is currently at the mortuary.
00:58:36After the post-mortem, we know we'll really get more clarity as to what exactly happened.
00:58:40But the prima facie information is that when he was traveling with his friends, with his four other
00:58:45friends near Mangaluru's Bajpe, another swift car, we believe, just came by, you know,
00:58:50the swift car just blocked this car from going forward.
00:58:53And, you know, and from that other car came some goons who then hacked Suhas Shetty to death.
00:58:59So, this is the prima facie information that we have as of now.
00:59:02Stay on with me. For the memory of the viewer, just to give you a background.
00:59:07Praveen Netaru, a BJP UR Morcha leader, was killed in July 2022.
00:59:11And I was even investigating this case.
00:59:13In return to that, a revenge killing happened of Muhammad Fazil.
00:59:17He was murdered against and because of Praveen Netaru's murder,
00:59:21believing he is the suspect and or according to those who killed him, accused in this case.
00:59:27In return to Muhammad Fazil's murder, Suhas Shetty, accused of killing Muhammad Fazil, gets murdered.
00:59:35It's as if there's full on gang war, so to say, happening.
00:59:39Tell me more about, have the vehicles been seized, Anagar?
00:59:42Describe this visual for me. Murder for murder for murder in Mangaluru.
00:59:47What's happening here as the visuals were put out on our screens?
00:59:54Well, in fact, they are the visuals that we see that has been seized by the Mangaluru police.
00:59:58In fact, ADGP for Law and Order in Karnataka, Hitendra, has also reached in Mangaluru to take stock of the situation.
01:00:06So, every single vehicle that was part of the murder has been seized.
01:00:11You know, the first vehicle is the vehicle that Suhas Shetty was traveling in with his four other friends.
01:00:16And the second vehicle is the other vehicle where some goons were sitting in,
01:00:21the ones who got out of that vehicle and then hacked Suhas Shetty to death.
01:00:25So, both these vehicles have been seized by the Mangaluru police.
01:00:29In fact, we have ADGP for Law and Order, Hitendra, also holding a meeting with four other SPs of Dakshina Canada
01:00:36to really find out what's going to be the next course of action.
01:00:38They will chart out a course of plan as to how to apprehend the accused.
01:00:43The police do have a clue as to what they are, who they belong to, who they are backed by.
01:00:48But now, after the investigation gets completed, they will apprehend the accused who are responsible for Suhas Shetty's murder.
01:00:56But for now, we have political netas as well who are landing in Mangaluru.
01:01:01We believe Karnataka's BJP chief, Vijendra, will also be landing here to meet Suhas Shetty's family and to also offer his condolences.
01:01:09That's going to be happening here in Karnataka. While all this is happening, VHP has also called for a day's band in Mangaluru, ensuring that all shows are shut and no buses.
01:01:17These are escalating tensions there in Mangaluru and otherwise, so to say, a sleepy town, but look at how the situation is turning and how are the cops, the politicians controlling it?
01:01:29Groups think they can murder and get away the audacity that's coming in from different groups here across Mangaluru.
