Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has admitted that Labour's defeat in the Runcorn & Helsby by-election is "disappointing", but the result was "very close".Speaking to GB News, Starmer said: "The results are disappointing, and I could stand here and say that opposition parties always do well in elections like this, it was very close in Runcorn, etc."What I want to say is my response is, we get it. We were elected in last year to bring about change, and that's what people desperately want."WATCH ABOVE.

00:00Nigel Farage says you're a coward for not campaigning in Runcorn. Are you a coward?
00:06Look, the results are disappointing. I could stand here and say to you, opposition parties always do well in by-elections like this.
00:15It was very close in Runcorn, etc. What I want to say is, my response is, we get it.
00:23And we were elected in last year to bring back change. That's what people desperately want.
00:30We started that work. The NHS waiting lists are down. Wages are up. More than in crisis. Interest rates are down.
00:37But the message from these results, I think, is go further, go faster. That chimes with what I want to do.
00:44And that's what I take out of this. I'm determined that we will go further and faster on the change that people want to see.
00:50Six votes, so you could have won it.
00:52Well, it was very, very close. But I'm not going to stand here and just say it was close.
00:57In the end, you know, it's a binary outcome. You either win or you don't win.
01:03The question is how it happened. So I'm not going to respond by saying it was close.
01:08I want a better response than that, which is to say, I get it. I do know that change is needed.
01:14We are making that change. We need to go further and faster.
01:17I've been saying this for a number of weeks. This reinforces my determination that we'll deliver the change that people have gone across the country.
