00:00These are the best iPhone camera settings that you should use when taking photos and
00:04videos with your iPhone 15, or any iPhone for that matter.
00:08I'm always trying to find ways to get the best results possible from my iPhone camera.
00:12These settings do make a big difference, so I'm gonna share them with you.
00:15Just a few things before we get started.
00:17I'm using the regular iPhone 15 for this video, so if you have an older iPhone, some
00:22of these settings might not be available to you, but just go through all of them and adjust
00:25the ones that are available for your model.
00:27Also, if you have an iPhone 15 Pro, that phone has a few settings that are not available
00:32online, but I will make sure to go through all of them and explain how and when to use
00:36them.
00:37Okay, let's do it.
00:38All right, so the first thing we're gonna do is jump into settings, scroll down to camera,
00:46record video.
00:47In here, I'm usually using the 4K 30 option, but you can use 24 as well, depends on which
00:51one you like more, but I feel like 30 FPS is the best to go for like social media, YouTube,
00:57stuff like that.
00:58Next, we have an option to show PAL formats.
01:00This basically just gives you an additional option of shooting at 25 frames per second,
01:04and in my opinion, it's really not necessary.
01:06It used to be like a standard in Europe, while NTSC was used in the United States.
01:11Doesn't really matter.
01:12I still suggest shooting at 4K 30 in most situations.
01:14Going down the list, we have enhanced stabilization on.
01:17Action mode lower light is off for me, as is HDR video.
01:22I don't really like the way iPhone's HDR video looks, so I just keep it off.
01:26Again, that is something that you can adjust for yourself if you want to.
01:29I just don't like shooting it, so I keep it off.
01:31Auto FPS is off, lock camera is off, and here at the bottom, we have lock white balance.
01:37And that's, to me, one of the most important features that Apple added to all iPhones running
01:42iOS 17.
01:43And that actually keeps your phone from switching white balance while shooting videos.
01:48So for example, if you're panning from one side to the other, where the scene is changing,
01:52the white balance would also change.
01:53So you will have an image that would, at some points, look a bit more yellow, a bit more
01:57blue, green, and it just wouldn't be consistent.
01:59But if you turn this feature on in iOS 17, it locks the white balance as it is at that point.
02:04And that just makes everything nice and even when it comes to color.
02:07Now we're going to go back to camera.
02:09Slow-mo I don't actually use, so I just left it at default.
02:121080p 120 FPS.
02:14Electronic mode, I'm also not a huge fan of, so it's also on 1080p 30, but maybe I'm going
02:19to use it in the future.
02:20So I'm just going to switch that right now to 4K 30 as well.
02:23Now in formats, I keep camera capture at high efficiency.
02:27Now if you're using, for example, a Windows laptop, something like that, you might want
02:31to choose most compatible because that's going to switch to JPEG.
02:34And that is the format that's much more accepted across different devices.
02:38But if you are using Apple stuff, high efficiency is the best option.
02:42Auto mode, we're going to keep it 24 megapixels to get the best resolution possible.
02:46And here we're going to switch on resolution control, which basically just lets you control
02:50the different resolutions of photos within the camera app itself.
02:54Now if you have an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, instead of just resolution control, you would
02:58see Pro Raw and resolution control.
03:01And it just basically gives you another toggle to switch the Pro Raw on in the camera app,
03:06as well as switching the resolution.
03:09And on the 15 Pro, you also have one additional option below called Pro Default.
03:14And you can set that to Pro Raw Max.
03:17That will give you the best maximum resolution for your raw images.
03:20One more thing that the 15 Pro does have that I don't have on my regular 15, you would see
03:24the option below all these called Apple ProRes.
03:27So if you want to record an Apple ProRes, you can only do that on Pro models.
03:31Hence the Pro name, and you can definitely leave that option on as well.
03:35So you can change the settings within the app.
03:38And again, for ProRes, you want to choose the log ProRes recording option for best quality.
03:43We're going to go back and then to preserve settings.
03:45So all of these options basically just let you preserve particular settings within the
03:49camera app.
03:50So you don't have to toggle them back on or off every time you use the app.
03:53If you turn this off for any particular feature, it would basically revert it to default when
03:58you exit app and open it up again.
04:01So here I have creative controls on, exposure adjustment, portrait zoom, and live photo are
04:06the options that are on.
04:07But again, you can set this up to your liking.
04:10And the options below here are record stereo sound is on, volume up for burst is also on.
04:16That's actually a useful feature that I use quite a lot.
04:19And scan QR codes and show detected text is on.
04:22Just an additional thing that's kind of useful sometimes when using the camera.
04:26Here in the composition section, I would definitely recommend turning on the grid and level options.
04:32Grid basically just kind of splits your screen into thirds so you can frame the shot better.
04:37While level is also a new feature in iOS 17 that just kind of shows you this level in
04:42the middle of the screen to see if your shot is straight.
04:44So it also helps you frame the shot a bit better and see if everything is flat and leveled.
04:50Below that mirror front camera is off and view outside the frame is off.
04:55Down below here we have photographic styles.
04:56I just kind of leave it at standard because they just does even more post-processing.
05:01And I want my shots to look as natural as possible.
05:04Portraits in photo mode are on, which is also a new feature on iPhone 15 that captures depth
05:09information automatically if a person, dog or cat is in a frame.
05:14So you can basically just blur the background of your photos later on in the app if you want to.
05:19And you can kind of switch between and see which one you like more.
05:22So this is the option that I usually have on and then kind of tinker with it later.
05:26You can see this F icon that says portrait and photos where the depth information is captured.
05:31And as you can see here, you can just blur the background later on if you want to.
05:35And here prioritize faster shooting and lens correction is also on.
05:40So now we're going to go into the camera app itself and just kind of show you the setup there.
05:44So here we're in the photo section.
05:46I usually keep mine in one X.
05:49If you have an iPhone 15 Pro, you would have an option for different focal lengths.
05:53In my opinion, I would just leave it at default, but you can play around with that
05:56and see which one you like most.
05:57There's actually a cool little feature that I don't think a lot of people know about.
06:01And that is that you can swipe up on the screen here to reveal additional options.
06:05Or just click this arrow at the top.
06:07And here you can see the flash.
06:08I keep that off.
06:09Night mode, I keep it default.
06:11Here on the right side, you have the option for resolution control.
06:14And like I said, if you have the 15 Pro, you would have the Pro Raw option here as well.
06:18On the regular iPhone 15 here, we can just switch between
06:21the regular 12 megapixel shot and the full 24 megapixel shot.
06:26While on the 15 Pro, you would have two additional options,
06:28which is shooting raw at 12 or 24 megapixels.
06:32And with these additional settings down there, my flash, like I said, is off.
06:36Night mode is on auto.
06:39Here you can change the exposure, those photographic styles,
06:42change your aspect ratio for photos, set a timer, some filters and stuff like that.
06:46So most of these things, I just leave it default.
06:49I just turn the live photos off.
06:51And you can definitely tinker with a lot of these things a bit more.
06:54But when I'm using my iPhone to take photos,
06:57I just kind of want it to be quick and simple and easy.
06:59So I just want to take out my phone and be able to shoot as fast as possible.
07:03And setting it up this way allows me to do that.
07:05And here in the video tab, like I said, I shoot at 4K 30.
07:09You can change the frame rate here on the right.
07:11And that's basically it.
07:12I don't use a lot of these other options like portrait.
07:14Like I said, I use very rarely a cinematic mode as well.
07:18If you have the 15 Pro or Pro Max, keep in mind that if you are shooting raw
07:21and if you're shooting a ProRes video in log,
07:25you will definitely have to edit those photos and videos later on
07:28to get the desired results.
07:30So if you don't want to mess with that,
07:32I would actually recommend turning the ProRAW and ProRes options off.
07:36And just take it with the default max resolution.
07:38And that should be just fine.
07:40Also, if you need a case for your iPhone,
07:42you should definitely check out Pitaka with their MagEasy case 4.
07:46This video is not directly sponsored by them,
07:48but I really do love their products.
07:50And they sent me this case to check out.
07:51So shout out for that.
07:53These are really, really thin MagSafe compatible cases.
07:56So if you want like an ultra slim, ultra light case,
07:58this is a really cool choice.
08:00Also, these come in a 100% biodegradable packaging.
08:03They have like really nice cutouts for your volume buttons,
08:06mute switch below for the charger and speakers and everything.
08:09And there's also a raised lip around the whole screen.
08:12And the camera bump is also raised a little bit.
08:14So you're protected there as well.
08:16So I'll leave a link in the description if you want to check it out.
08:18And you know what?
08:19Daddy, over.
