BOASTING a twin-turbo engine with more than 900hp – ‘Filthy’ is the world’s first full custom-road registered burnout truck. Owner Michael Lake, from ‘Truckin Stainless’ in Brisbane, Australia, spent seven years working days and nights in his shed to perfect his latest burnout model. A ‘burnout’ is the practice of keeping a vehicle stationary whilst spinning its wheels, causing the tyres to heat up and smoke due to friction. Michael, 42, built ‘Filthy’ specifically for the entertainment of burning out to crowds across Australia, but he also made sure to produce a vehicle that was practical and street-legal for his own pleasure.

00:01Own trucks, live trucks, breathe trucks, and it's been my whole life so far.
00:06This is filthy, a burnout truck, heaps of smoke.
00:14Yep, I'm Michael Lake, owner of Truckin' Stainless here in Brisbane, Australia.
00:19This is my truck that I've built for burnouts.
00:30It's got a 28 litre Cummins, that's a white 4000, 75 model.
00:42It's got twin turbos, all custom made.
00:45Passion for trucks has been since a young boy.
00:49Yeah, I was a truck driver most of my life.
00:52And yeah, just had enough of it.
00:54Wanted to get out of it, try something different.
00:57So we started at home, built it up from home, gone from there.
01:02I drew pictures of it when I first started building it and just sort of went from there.
01:07It's pretty much what it looks like on the picture.
01:11It's one of a kind.
01:14I started with a set of diffs, started with a set of diffs, put the motor and box in place,
01:29string lined it on my concrete and we started building the truck from there.
01:34Yeah, it's pretty much all custom.
01:37The build's taken seven years.
01:40We go from starting with a cab that was russed out to putting it all together.
01:46Just every night, pretty much.
01:48Yeah, after I'd finished work, I'd just go out there and just start working on that
01:51till I had enough and then go back up inside and then get up and do it all over again.
01:56It's a bit old school look.
01:58I've done, got a lift up bumper.
02:00It all tilts out, lifts up so I can get over speed bumps and whatnot.
02:05It's a custom grill we've manufactured and all done here in the house.
02:10You see these gauges, they've all got our own custom truck and stainless logo in them.
02:15That's a pretty cool little feature we got.
02:18It looks pretty good at night too, all light up.
02:21Up here we've got our front brakes.
02:23So we'll hold them down to do a burnout.
02:27We'll hold them down until we're done.
02:30The hardest part would be to...
02:40I was originally marrying the box and the motor up.
02:43Other than that, yeah, we just worked on it until we worked it out.
02:47The feature would be, I reckon, be the grill.
02:50I definitely like the front look of it.
02:52It's definitely in your face.
02:54A custom steering wheel here with a quick release.
02:57I've got the transformer logo over here because everyone reckons it's a bit of a bumblebee.
03:02The whole building process probably, I wouldn't have put a price to it, but yeah, probably $50,000.
03:10The engine is a V12 1710 Cummins, 28 litre.
03:15And it's rated at 900 horsepower and 4,000 foot pound of torque.
03:19They can go to like 2,300 horsepower or four turbos.
03:23That's really cracking.
03:25Nah, I don't think I'd ever sell it.
03:27Just part of the family now.
03:29My friends are a bit jealous of it, of filthy.
03:32It's all good.
03:33I get to take them for a run around the block and they soon change their mind.
03:37This truck is outstanding.
03:39Like, I really think it's beyond words.
03:42It's the best truck in Australia for sure.
03:45Yeah, I'm proud of the truck we've built.
03:48All the work we've done to it and all the customisation.
03:51One of a kind kind of a truck.
03:55It's definitely different.
03:56Definitely proud of it.
