Gregg Popovich will leave his role as head coach of the San Antonio Spurs after 29 years at the helm.
Transcript
00:00This organization is still prioritizing Pop's health and at the time he will, you know, do what he needs to do.
00:15We all have come across or know people that just have a different aura, different presence about them.
00:23And clearly he's one of those people.
00:24So when we walk into the building each and every day, we feel that leadership, we feel that presence.
00:31And so not having him, you know, there's clearly a void and we miss him.
00:37He, I think, is one of the best, if not the best, at putting everything into perspective, you know.
00:43And he's so selfless and he makes sure we understand how privileged we are to play this game and to be in the NBA.
00:49But he'd be the first person to tell you not to worry about him and to go out and hoop.
00:54But, of course, all the guys with our team, staff, everyone, definitely miss him because he's Pop.
01:03You know, so there's a feeling when he's in the room that just confronts everybody.
01:08He was demanding and hard in the court.
01:15Once you step out of the court, finish practice, or two hours after the game, he'll be sitting with you, talking to you, drinking a wine, having dinner.
01:25And, like I said, talking about life, asking about your family, asking about my country, what we're doing out there.
01:34And those kinds of stuff, no other coach ever did to me.
01:39The wins and losses are all f***.
01:41The highs and lows are all f***.
01:42It's illusory.
01:43It doesn't really exist.
01:45What exists is seeing these guys and their kids, those relationships with your assistant coaches, everybody else you're with, your colleagues, your friends.
01:54Because that's what you take with you as you move along.
01:57All those wins or losses, they fade away.
02:01They fade away.
02:01But those relationships stick with you forever.
02:04And that's where the self-esteem and the self-satisfaction comes.
02:07We live in challenging times.
02:09I'm not going to go into it.
02:11But the times we live in require, they require that we relate with each other a whole lot better than we do right now.
