00:18Game one of the 2025 NBA playoffs between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston
00:23Rockets gave us a glimpse of what happens when a battle-tested core meets a young team
00:28still learning the ropes of playoff basketball.
00:31The Warriors came into Houston, handled the pressure, and walked away with a 95-85 win.
00:38But what really happened beneath the surface?
00:41Let's take a deeper look on both squads, starting with the winners.
00:46The Warriors' biggest strength was clear from the jump, composure.
00:50They didn't start the game hot, but they stayed poised.
00:54They've been through the fire before, and it showed in the way they executed when it
00:58mattered most.
01:00Steph Curry led the way with 31 points, showing once again that when it's crunch time, he's
01:05still one of the most dangerous players in basketball.
01:09His shot-making wasn't just flashy, it was surgical.
01:12And then there was Jimmy Butler, who, in his first playoff game as a Warrior, looked right
01:19at home.
01:20He filled up the box score with 25 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals.
01:26Butler brought that classic playoff grit, playing both ends of the floor like the seasoned vet
01:32he is.
01:33Defensively, Golden State was dialed in.
01:36They forced 17 turnovers and converted those into 25 points.
01:41It wasn't just about Curry's scoring or Butler's control.
01:45It was the team's ability to turn defense into offense that slowly broke Houston down.
01:50But it wasn't all perfect.
01:52The Warriors still showed some vulnerability inside.
01:55Alpern Sengen was a problem all night, scoring 26 points and grabbing 9 boards with ease.
02:02Golden State had no real answer for him in the paint.
02:06And offensively, outside of Curry and Butler, things were a bit shaky.
02:10The supporting cast didn't give them much.
02:13The absence of Klay Thompson is starting to show.
02:16They're still figuring out who steps up as that third option.
02:20Still, the Warriors have some big opportunities ahead.
02:24If they can get more out of guys like Jonathan Kaminga or Brandon Podziemski, who looked solid
02:29in limited minutes, they can create serious matchup problems moving forward.
02:35But they also need to be cautious.
02:37This team is leaning heavily on Steph and Jimmy.
02:42If either of them has an off night or gets into foul trouble, things could shift fast.
02:47And with an aging core, the threat of fatigue or injury is always in the background.
02:53On the Rockets' side, their strength was also obvious.
02:57Alpern Sengen.
02:59He was the most consistent and effective player for Houston in Game 1, dominating inside and
03:05keeping the Rockets in striking distance for much of the game.
03:08His skill, footwork, and touch of the post gave the Warriors fits.
03:13Early on, the Rockets also played with that youthful burst, pushing the pace, running in transition,
03:19trying to overwhelm Golden State with speed and athleticism.
03:24And for a quarter or so, it worked.
03:26But then came the weaknesses.
03:28Houston's backcourt just couldn't get it going.
03:31Jalen Green and Fred VanVleet combined for just 17 points on 7 of 34 shooting.
03:38That's brutal!
03:39They missed open looks, forced tough shots, and turned the ball over in key moments.
03:45And when your starting guards are that cold, it's hard to keep up with a team like the Warriors.
03:50The Rockets were also careless with the ball, giving up 17 turnovers.
03:56And every mistake they made, Golden State made them pay.
04:00Still, there are opportunities for this team.
04:03Sengen is a clear mismatch.
04:05And they need to keep feeding him, especially early in games to set the tone.
04:10If they can get more efficient play from their guards and space to floor better, they have
04:15the pieces to fight back.
04:17But the threats are real.
04:19Confidence could become an issue, especially for Green and VanVleet if they struggle again
04:24in Game 2.
04:25The Rockets are still young, and their lack of playoff experience showed late in the game.
04:31Rushed possessions, poor decision making, and missed assignments.
04:35If they don't settle down fast, the series could start slipping away.
04:39Golden State didn't just win, they imposed their identity.
04:43They played with control, forced mistakes, and leaned on their stars when accounted.
04:49Houston, on the other hand, showed flashes of promise.
04:53But also showed they're still learning how to win on this stage.
04:57The good news?
04:58It's just Game 1.
05:00The adjustments are coming.
05:02And the story of this series is far from over.
