00:00oh hey welcome back everyone uh this is gonna be a brief video i just finished watching uh
00:15black mirror season seven so i was gonna give you my thoughts on it real quick um
00:20and get some diamonds at the same time so opening up a new third level of mining uh
00:27uh since i've exploited the first two levels anyways yeah uh used to love black mirror when
00:34it first first came out um and it's kind of been on a hiatus a lot of people were wondering
00:42if it was ever going to come back and sure enough it did us that's a it's a really good vein right
00:49there um anyways yeah so it did it did come back and uh i'm happy to say this is a this is a very
00:58good season um you know one of the best honestly uh the writing has been kind of dropping off in
01:07the past couple seasons i i think he he got some help because you know one man can only have so many
01:13uh ideas for shows and uh i think the well was was running kind of dry so either he's had some new
01:22inspiration or some of the other writers are kind of uh you know helping him out because um this is
01:31like i said this is more of a return to form this is one of the better seasons i was very very uh
01:36impressed with this overall so um it's a seven no i'm sorry it's a uh it's a six season a six
01:46episode season we'll get this right i gotta stop making these videos first thing in the morning
01:50before coffee my brain's just not working so um yeah it's a six episode season and i kind of watch
01:58these out of order i'll explain at the end um but i'm gonna review these in the order i watched them
02:06so the first one i watched was called uh is called common people and uh there's gonna be
02:13some light spoilers i will i won't list a lot of details like so there's gonna be a quick review
02:19um but yeah common people uh the tech in it is pretty much right around the corner like some of
02:29these episodes seem like they could happen today and then some of these episodes seem like the
02:35technology is probably about a hundred years away this one seems like it's uh it's really about
02:4110 years away because we're already experimenting with you know computer brain interfaces
02:48and how to uh translate you know information between the two so i'd say you know beginning tests on
02:57a technology like this are probably about 10 years away maybe 15 but anyways uh not to give away too
03:04much it's a story about a couple um the the woman suffers a tragedy and the technology is
03:15there to kind of save the day but the the narrative of the episode you'll see what i mean is very um
03:24critical of uh corporate uh greed you know there's no other no other way to put it you know technology
03:33can help us but the marketing model that a lot of corporations use uh subscription plans and whatnot
03:41especially like in this episode you'll see it leads to i don't want to spoil the episode but it's a
03:46it's a very depressing episode uh one of the more depressing ones i've seen in a long long time so
03:53all right now after the first episode i i ranked that one pretty highly that one's you know
03:58a four out of five episode um the next episode i watched was uh uss callister into infinity and you'll
04:08remember that i think his name is jesse plemons is how you say it uh great actor he was in breaking
04:15bad he was just recently in uh the civil war movie um anyways so yeah jesse plemons was in the original
04:24he does make a brief and i do mean brief appearance in this and it's a new appearance it's not a uh
04:31uh stock footage uh uh cameo but he does make a brief appearance in this you'll you'll see
04:38how um like i said i don't want to spoil too much about these episodes this this was pretty strong i i
04:44did uh i did want to know what happened to all of them after entering the new universe it turns out
04:52they're struggling they're having a very hard time as like these rogue programs in this new gaming
04:58uh uh open world you know simulation where people are flying from planet planet they're basically
05:06having to exist as pirates you know stealing credits that they need to keep their ship running
05:12to keep their stocks uh you know supplies stocked um so it's it's a it's it's a very nice follow-up
05:20and it kind of um puts a nice little bow on their story so i doubt there will be
05:25a third entry i don't really see where the story could go but um you know who knows you never know
05:33they might come up with something it does it does tie up their story very well i thought
05:39uh then after that after i i watched that one because that's really the one i wanted to see from
05:46the trailer and after watching the first episode i just skipped to uh the last episode that's the one
05:51they end the season with so then i watched after seeing the one i really wanted to watch from the
05:56trailer um i i went in order and so i went back to the second episode and uh i don't know how you
06:05pronounce this bet noir bet noir anyways um it's the story of a young woman who's an executive at a
06:14chocolate company and she runs into a old friend well not really friend an acquaintance from high school
06:24and uh somebody that her and her friends picked on and uh i don't want to spoil too much this this one
06:33i think started out very strong but then the explanation at the end was i thought i thought a
06:41a little weak a little weak a lot of times um the strength of black mirror is that the technology
06:48seems completely believable this one really kind of it's not a bad episode none of these are terrible
06:55episodes the whole season's solid but um this episode the second episode uh that bet noir is um
07:03uh it's like i said the the the explanation at the end i thought was a little wanting um
07:13you know you never really get to see the real technology that's making these things possible so
07:20i don't i don't want to i don't want to uh spoil too much it's a strong episode right up until the
07:26ending the ending like i said felt a little weak so all right that leads us to the third episode
07:32hotel hotel hotel reverie i guess is how you pronounce that reverie anyways um it's this is
07:41my least i'm not gonna lie this is my least favorite episode of the season it has nothing to do with the
07:47fact that the characters are lesbian or bisexual um i know there's people that get triggered by
07:57any kind of criticism of episodes with lgbt characters and whatnot i don't treat anything i
08:05don't treat you know lgbt characters with kid gloves i treat them just like i would regular characters the
08:12same standards um so i don't lower the bar for characters that are minorities or lgbt or women or
08:20anything like that it's not it's not a terrible episode it's just uh again the okay basically i'm
08:30not going to spoil too much basically the main character falls in love with a simulation of a
08:36movie star and they never explain why the movie star is given so much data so much computer
08:47processing power that she has the ability to become sentient um they kind of just hand wave that
08:56away a little bit and uh honestly it it felt it really felt like uh charlie booker is it booker or
09:04brooker i think it might be brooker um and honestly yeah it's brooker i'm just uh it's brooker it's not
09:11booker anyways charlie brooker the lead writer show creator it really felt like he was trying to uh
09:16capture recapture the magic of um sand juniper
09:24which again was a fine episode um i i didn't hate it i thought it was sweet but then a lot of people
09:32in the media just gushed over it endlessly and a lot of uh right you know uh episode lists you know where
09:38they rank the best black mirror episodes of all time put sand juniper right at the top and it just
09:45isn't it's just not the best episode ever it's it's not even remotely close i i can think of three
09:52episodes off the top of my head that are stronger better episodes um i mean by by a large margin
09:59there's nothing wrong with that episode and there's nothing wrong with this episode it's just uh it's
10:04kind of like been there done that it's it's uh you know it's a girl girl romance and i feel like the story
10:11is kind of secondary to that i don't feel like the story can't was developed first i feel like
10:17they wanted uh a girl girl romance in the vein of sand juniper to appease the critics and uh and then
10:25wrote a story around it story feels very secondary to the romance so but like i said not a terrible
10:33episode but it is it is by far the weakest in uh in the season which you know doesn't make it bad it
10:40just means that it's not that it's not super you know it's not memorable i have no desire to watch
10:46this one again you know what i'm saying some some you want to re-watch some you never want to watch
10:50again this i just yeah just don't care it's just okay it's serviceable so but you know it's it's not
10:56terrible like i said you're gonna enjoy every if you like black mirror you enjoy every episode this
11:01season to some extent uh you this may be your favorite episode i don't know uh you know you
11:08can let me know in the comments if uh if you have already seen the uh the season so um and then that
11:14brings us to episode four play thing which is a not exactly it's not really a sequel to the bandersnatch
11:25movie it does involve uh at least two characters from that movie if y'all may remember that that
11:32netflix uh bandersnatch was a um netflix movie in the black mirror universe the black mirror black
11:40mirror movie that was like a choose your own adventure where you could choose where the story
11:45went i don't know if y'all remember that it's been a while but anyways this is uh this isn't really a
11:50sequel it does take place in that universe so uh what's his name will polter polter i don't know
12:00how you pronounce his last name uh uh out of warlock from guardians of the galaxy 3 uh i think he was in
12:07shameless uh he's been in a bunch of stuff he's very he's very good actor um but anyways he's he returns
12:14and i think a couple other people uh return at least his his agent returns um and uh this one is uh
12:24again you're gonna see there's there if i have a complaint with this season of black mirror
12:30i don't feel like a lot of the endings really um i feel like they're kind of
12:37they're kind of uh veering into the realm of well technology is magic it can kind of do anything
12:46whereas like the first couple seasons the technology felt very real it felt very based in reality maybe
12:55because they've done so many stories they're having to to lean into the more unrealistic the more
13:02fantasy aspects of sci-fi but um the story's good it's uh fairly predictable you know i saw where it
13:11was going um you know early into the episode um it stars one of the doctors uh i'm not a big doctor
13:19new fan but um the main character was one of the uh one of the previous doctors i want to say the 11th
13:27doctor uh don't don't quote me on that i'm like i'm not a doctor new fan the really old looking guy
13:34um the really old looking doctor but uh he's he's great in it all the actors are are really good
13:42in this season um but uh but yeah when when it gets to the ending i'm like what the
13:48fuck how did that happen you know i don't feel like the technology was um
13:54um was kept within the the realm of the believable uh you'll you'll see what i mean you'll see what i
14:01mean but um one sec
14:07okay that leads us to um the final episode that i watched not the final episode of the seasons the
14:14final episode that i watched because like i said i watched uss callister into infinity early that's
14:20only the second episode i watched but the final episode that i watched the second to last episode
14:26of the season is called eulogy and uh it stars paul giamonte i believe is how you say it character
14:34actor he's been in everything all my so a lot of my favorite movies and tv shows uh very talented guy
14:43uh it's nice to see him get a more serious role because he usually gets more comedic roles but uh but
14:48he is a serious actor he can definitely pull off serious anyways uh he's the star of this episode
14:55and the story is it's it's it's perfect it's perfect like i was literally i like this episode so much
15:07and i'm not a very emotional guy i mean i'm emotional everybody's emotional i frown upon i'm old school
15:16though you know i frown upon guys showing a lot of emotion i think it's uh i think it's very unmasculine
15:23to just put your emotions on display um anyways uh so i try to kind of reign those in and uh you know
15:33i i was i was literally on the verge of tears it was such a beautiful beautiful episode um
15:42um yeah yeah yeah it's uh it's amazing so it's uh i don't want to spoil too much about it i want
15:49you all to enjoy it it's about a character who is contacted by uh uh an ai right that is notifying him
16:00that his uh that somebody he knew like an ex-girlfriend from what 30 40 years ago 50 years ago something i mean
16:10it's it's he's he's very old in the episode and he looks to be like probably in his early 20s so i'm
16:16guessing 30 to 40 years you know somewhere in there um so it's been a long long time anyways one of his
16:24exes one of the first girls maybe the first girl he ever fell in love with um is dead she's passed and uh
16:33the episode's called eulogy because the ai is asking him if he would like to contribute anything
16:38you know to her eulogy and um he cannot think of her face there's a the technology in this is like a
16:48little um uh it's it's it's the little pods that you know it's a kind of a recurring theme in black
16:56mirror you put it on your temple and it interfaces with your brain so the ai is like helping him go
17:03through some of his old pictures uh because he he can't remember her face because the pictures he
17:10has she's um got her back to the camera and then later on it's revealed that he has more pictures but
17:18he's you know scratched her face out so the beauty of the episode is that it is a very human tale
17:26um we can all men and women black and white old and young we can all all sympathize with the theme
17:38of this episode of how you know a lot of times uh god i'm getting emotional now just thinking about
17:45it but a lot of times you know we've loved someone in our lives and uh it's kind of natural for us to see
17:53ourselves as the victim uh especially when we get rejected uh you know passed over for for somebody
18:01else it's very natural to to see ourselves as the victim and you know sometimes we we clearly are the
18:09victim but in almost every single case we played a hand in that you know if we were as perfect as we
18:17remember ourselves being most people wouldn't leave us you know what i'm saying most people wouldn't be
18:23looking for the exit so it's a it's it's a very honest episode um about all of our flaws about how
18:33beautiful uh people are and uh even even even with all their flaws i'm a i'm a big fan of
18:41the beauty of flaws i don't know what that's called but like um i love people and i love people and even
18:50when they do really stupid things you know uh even when they hurt you or they let you down
19:00uh i still love them because that's nothing is more human than to get wrapped up in your own uh your
19:07own world view your own perspective and to not see the forest for the trees you know so i i'd like
19:14so i don't want to spoil too much it is a beautiful beautiful episode that doesn't mean it has a happy
19:20ending i'm not saying it's gonna it's got a happy ending okay i don't want you to watch this to go hey
19:27he said it was gonna have a beautiful ending and this is this is sad or this is depressing or whatever
19:32you may you may take it a different way i i i thought it was beautiful i was very very i'm still
19:40very very moved by it because i i just watched it last night and uh i i can't get it out of my mind
19:46it's it's it's it's it's powerful it's very powerful that's the best word i could describe it with um
19:53but anyways i'm gonna go now uh i don't want to embarrass myself anymore but yeah definitely check out
20:00uh uh black mirror season seven it is not anything like the miley cyrus uh season which felt extremely
20:11commercial extremely weak uh that's probably my least favorite season nothing is miley cyrus it just
20:18it felt so manufactured and just disappointing it was that was such a huge letdown um all the episodes
20:28were were rather weak uh but this is six episodes very strong um with eulogy being the clear winner
20:37uh you know but you know uss callister into the into infinity and common people are really really good
20:45as well so half the season is extremely solid like it can it can stand with uh with with previous
20:53season episodes as uh it's that good so it's not my it's not my favorite season ever i'm not gonna go
21:00crazy and say oh this is as good as season one or season two or even season three it's not that good
21:07um but that's probably more because of my familiarity with the writing style and uh you know after a while
21:16watching twilight zone you can kind of guess the endings um they get a little formulaic over time so
21:24um but i i do love that the show doesn't
21:30doesn't just take the easy route and sometimes just you know go for a shock value ending you know
21:36sometimes i'd rather something be predictable than not make sense but listen i'm gonna go thank you so
21:42much for watching um yeah take care of yourselves please remember to give it a like if you can
21:50and uh i'll catch y'all soon all right bye
21:59you
