U.S. President Donald Trump was interviewed on Friday by NBC’s Kristen Welker at his Mar-a-Lago property in Florida. Trump’s comments in a wide-ranging and at moments combative interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” came as the Republican president’s efforts to quickly enact his agenda face sharper headwinds with Americans just as his second administration crossed the 100-day mark.

00:00Are you saying that your tariffs will cause some prices to go up?
00:12No, I think tariffs are going to be great for us because it's going to make us rich.
00:16But you said some dolls are going to cost more.
00:18Isn't that an acknowledgement that some prices will go up?
00:20I don't think a beautiful baby girl needs, that's 11 years old, needs to have 30 dolls.
00:27I think they can have three dolls or four dolls because what we were doing with China was just unbelievable.
00:34We had a trade deficit of hundreds of billions of dollars with China.
00:39When you say they could have three dolls instead of 30 dolls, are you saying Americans could see empty store shelves?
00:46No, I'm not saying that.
00:48I'm just saying they don't need to have 30 dolls.
00:50They can have three.
00:50They don't need to have 250 pencils.
00:52They can have five.
00:53But you're basically saying there could be some supply shortages because of the tariffs.
00:59I'm basically saying we don't have to waste money on a trade deficit with China for things we don't need, for junk that we don't need.
01:06Well, prices are already going up on some popular items from tires, strollers.
01:11This is such a dishonest interview already.
01:13Are you comfortable with the country potentially dipping into a recession for a period of time if you are able to achieve your long-term goals?
01:23Well, you know, you say some people on Wall Street say, well, I'd like to tell you something else.
01:27Some people on Wall Street say that we're going to have the greatest economy in history.
01:31Why don't you talk about them?
01:33Because some people on Wall Street say this is the greatest thing that ever happened.
01:36Well, that's what I'm getting at.
01:36That's what I'm getting at, though.
01:38It's the same question.
01:39There are many people on Wall Street say this is going to be the greatest windfall ever happened.
01:43And that's my question.
01:44Remember this?
01:45Long term.
01:45Yeah.
01:46Is it OK in the short term to have a recession?
01:48Remember this?
01:50Look, yeah, everything's OK.
01:53What we are, I said, this is a transition period.
01:56I think we're going to do fantastically.
01:58Are you worried about a recession?
02:01No.
02:03Your secretary of state says everyone who's here, citizens and non-citizens, deserve due process.
02:08Do you agree, Mr. President?
02:09I don't know.
02:09I'm not a lawyer.
02:11I don't know.
02:12Well, the Fifth Amendment says this much.
02:14I don't know.
02:14It seems it might say that.
02:17But if you're talking about that, then we'd have to have a million or two million or three million trials.
02:22We have thousands of people that are some murderers and some drug dealers and some of the worst people on Earth.
02:27Some of the worst, most dangerous people on Earth.
02:30And I was elected to get him the hell out of here.
02:34And the courts are holding me from doing it.
02:36Mark Carney, who you spoke to after his victory.
02:40He says that you didn't talk to him in that call about making Canada a 51st state.
02:46No, he called me.
02:47He was very nice.
02:48And I congratulated him.
02:49He had a victory.
02:50It's a very close victory.
02:51You know, there's no majority or anything.
02:53So that's going to make things a little bit difficult, I think, for him to run.
02:57But he nevertheless had a victory.
02:59And he's a very nice man, I think.
03:01Do you plan to talk to him about making Canada a 51st state?
03:03He wants to come and see me.
03:04He's going to come this week or next week.
03:06So will you talk to him about making Canada a 51st state annex in Canada?
03:09I'll always talk about that.
03:10You know why?
03:11We subsidize Canada to the tune of $200 billion a year.
03:19Would you rule out military force to take Canada?
03:22Well, I think we're not going to ever get to that point.
03:25It could happen.
03:26Something could happen with Greenland.
03:27I'll be honest, we need that for national and international security.
03:32But not with Canada?
03:33I think it's highly unlikely.
03:34I don't see it with Canada.
03:35I just don't see it.
03:36I have to be honest with you.
03:39You look at Marco.
03:40You look at J.D. Vance, who's fantastic.
03:42You look at, I could name 10, 15, 20 people right now just sitting here.
03:47No, I think we have a tremendous party.
03:49And you know what I can't name?
03:50I can't name one Democrat.
03:52I mean, I look at the Democrats.
03:54They're in total disarray.
03:55They have a new person named Crockett.
03:57I watched her speak the other day.
03:59She's definitely a low IQ person.
