00:00Let's talk a little NHL action because game or should I say round number twos are coming up here.
00:05And the one thing you don't really hear about in the, you know, NHL is the postseason when it ends like a litany of players on every team getting surgeries for broken bones, torn muscles.
00:15Like, hey, I tried to gut it out at this point.
00:17So you want to talk about a series and some prices here in the NHL?
00:20We got them coming up here.
00:21Stars, Jets, Golden Knights, Oilers, Panthers, Maple Leafs into round number two.
00:26Hurricanes, Capitals here.
00:28How excited for round number two, Joe and Erie?
00:30Are we ready to go?
00:32Listen, I'm a Panther guy.
00:34So I will be a game three with the Maple Leafs coming up.
00:39But they get to drop the puck tonight in that one.
00:42Yeah, they drop it tonight.
00:43It was and I may believe fans are, I think, going to be a little disappointed when it's all said and done.
00:51But the value is on the Washington Capitals.
00:54There is no way the Hurricanes should be that big a favorite.
00:57No way.
00:58I got two topics for you here.
01:00Now, with the Panthers and the Maple Leafs, it's under the assumption that the Maple Leafs fans are going to be flying down to Florida for this game.
01:05Any animosity between the two fan bases down there?
01:08Or is it just, like, relaxing?
01:09Is a hockey game in Sunrise, Florida, relaxing at the game?
01:12Or is there some animosity?
01:13Like, even, like, Tampa comes to town.
01:15People hate on each other?
01:17You getting an idea?
01:17Oh, yeah.
01:18Yeah, there were a – I was at that game in game five, I believe, there in Sunrise.
01:25And it was a lot of Tampa Bay fans there.
01:28And it does not work out well for those fans that travel to Sunrise.
01:33And, by, how about this, too?
01:34Like, any thoughts to being the Miami Panthers, Joe?
01:37I mean, come on.
01:37Can we rip the Florida off there?
01:39Can we do that?
01:39The way they beat Tampa, they are really the only Florida hockey team, so.
01:45Yeah, I guess you can hold that up.
01:46Like, hey, well, the State University, you know, the flagship is the Gators and the Hurricanes in Florida State.
01:51Oh, well.
01:51But, look, I know I'm not going to be here with you to talk hockey, but I know you have a prop bet tonight.
01:55It's going to be Florida and Toronto.
01:56Toronto, as I said earlier, look, they already won the Stanley Cup.
02:00They're in the round number two.
02:01I mean, it's all good from here on out.
02:03What are we getting tonight?
02:04And also, a player prop from that game for you, Tommy.
02:06Player prop we'll get to in the next segment.
02:08A little spoiler or teaser, I should say, for there.
02:10But tonight, over five and a half.
02:11We'll get some goals early in the series.
02:13But after that, especially once we turn back to Florida, it is going to be hard unders.
02:17Two-one finals of what we're going to be looking at.
02:19By the way, I do think that Florida, Bobrovsky played for the Flyers, and I think Anthony Stolar.
02:24So, Flyers all over the place playing for postseason except the Flyers themselves.
02:29Ain't that tough here?
02:30You know, it isn't that tough.
02:32Tom's going to be back in the next segment.
02:33Joe Ranieri is going to be back in the next segment.
02:35To close out this edition of the Early On on a Monday, it's the place to be.
02:39I'm headed over to radio.
02:40These guys got you covered.
02:42I'll see you tomorrow.
02:44All right.
02:45Welcome back in here as we look to close out this edition of the Early Line.
02:49Joe Ranieri alongside Tom Vecchio as we are getting ready for round twos across the board.
02:55The NBA, we talked about.
02:57Round two underway.
02:58And, of course, in the NHL, back-to-back game sevens over the weekend, Tom, which were absolutely bonkers, including Winnipeg doing it in double overtime.
03:09But tonight, we get to see the champs, the NHL Stanley Cup champions.
03:15That would be the Florida Panthers taking on Toronto in Toronto.
03:18You know, I'm still seeing some Toronto money coming in here, but slight favorite for the Panthers.
03:25You talked about the over.
03:27You think we're going to get goals, and I agree.
03:29I think early in this series, we will.
03:32But what's the problem?
03:32Who are you focusing on prop-wise in this one?
03:35So, quick shout-out to the Jets.
03:37I have a ticket on them at 20-1 since I've had since the beginning of November.
03:41Barely kept that ticket alive.
03:42So, super happy with that.
03:44But let's turn to William Nylander for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
03:48Two-and-a-half shots for him.
03:50It's sitting at plus 100 for over two-and-a-half shots.
03:52You know, he's obviously a proven goal scorer.
03:54And I think a lot of the defensive assignments from the Panthers will, of course, turn to Austin Matthews.
03:59They'll turn to John Tavares, Mitch Marner in an aspect.
04:02But the fact that we're getting plus—and it's not to say that the Panthers are going to forget about William Nylander.
04:06They will obviously, you know, mind their peace and have him marked on defense.
04:09But the fact that we're getting two-and-a-half and plus money, that combination is what I'm looking for.
04:13And it's sitting at even money.
04:16So, that's the combination I look for.
04:17As a reminder, these are 60-minute lines.
04:19So, if the game goes to double overtime or overtime, whatever it is, as we saw last night, he has to have the shots in 60 minutes.
04:24Because he had 15 shots in double overtime.
04:26Those shots don't count.
04:27So, Nylander over two-and-a-half.
04:30Got to be in regulation here.
04:32I'm also starting to see a lot of love for Carolina.
04:36It seems like there's a line drawn in the sand.
04:39Like, part of this market says there is no way Carolina should be this big a favorite.
04:45And then, as the umpire market says, Washington is being completely overlooked here.
04:49What do you think we get in that series?
04:52So, Carolina is a team that a lot of people love because they have awesome underlying metrics.
04:58They have awesome, like, advanced analytics.
05:00And this is a team that they've been in for multiple seasons.
05:02A part of me thinks is, why do we have a team that has home ice with the Caps?
05:07And, like I said, being disrespected in terms of the betting odds.
05:10This series is not going fewer than six games.
05:13It's going to be six or seven games.
05:14I think the Caps get it done.
05:16I really do.
05:17For as good as the Canes are, they're a team that has some inefficiencies, at least in my mind, when it comes to the bottom six of their forwards.
05:24So, as great as the underlying metrics are, and that's why I think a lot of people value them, I just don't know if they have what it actually takes and can they convert that to real on-ice stuff at times.
05:34I think the Caps win in six or seven.
05:36I think they'll split the first two games, and it's kind of what we've talked about before, the zigzag.
05:40If team A wins, you know, game one, I'll just be on team B in game two.
05:43The other two out west, I mean, you're right, Winnipeg getting it done epic fashion, but now this is an underdog team against the Dallas Stars that seem to be getting healthier, too.
05:57Is Dallas your favorite still in the west?
06:00They are.
06:00I also have a ticket on Dallas.
06:02It's far lower at 7.5-1, so I will have one team advance at 7.5-1 or 20-1, which I'm obviously happy about.
06:10But, yeah, Dallas is a team that got it done in the first round.
06:13They didn't have Jason Robertson, who's arguably their best forward or tied for their best forward alongside Wyatt Johnson, and they didn't have Myra Heiskanen, who is their best defender.
06:21So if they are getting healthier, like you said, and we have seen the Jets, they got through the first round, whatever you want to call it, double overtime last night, even if they got it done in regulation, it was a really, really shaky first round.
06:31When you are the President's Trophy winner, you have the Vesna winner, or soon-to-be Vesna winner, Connor Hallibuck, and you get it done in seven games against a wild-card team.
06:40You can't play like that against Dallas, especially if Dallas is trending up with the health.
06:45So I'd like Dallas to come away, I think, 4-2.
06:49Like that, too, as well.
06:51And Golden Knights and the Oilers, the problem with those two teams, I think, Tom, is that that's going to be a grueling, beat-up series.
06:58And whoever's left standing, what will they have left in the tank?
07:01That's what it comes down to, and the defense and the lack of goaltending that we saw from the Oilers in the first round, if they are doing that against the Kings, and now we have a far superior team, at least in my mind, in the Golden Knights, you can't be giving up four goals a period to the Golden Knights.
07:16It's just not going to, that's a terrible plan.
07:19So the Oilers have to improve on defense.
07:21One or two of the early games will end 5-3.
07:24We will see some goals, but then it's going to be a big shift if the Oilers can lock things down on defense.
07:28Only, the only thing I'm seeing right now of all those, you know, second-round game ones, most of them all 5-1⁄2, except that one, which seems to be creeping up to the 6-1⁄2 mark, and I think we both know why that is there.
07:44Tom, we appreciate it, as always, my man.
07:47It's going to be a great week across the sports betting landscape.
07:51Thanks for dropping by.
07:52Thank you, Donnie.
07:53We'll have more Early Line tomorrow.
07:56Enjoy the games.
