00:00I traveled solo to Ethiopia, the land of origins. This isn't just a country, it's a story, a place
00:10layered with ancient history, powerful pride, and beauty that almost feels untouched. Ethiopia is the
00:16only African nation that was never formally colonized, and you can feel that spirit everywhere
00:22you go. It's in the music, the language, the food, and the way the people carry themselves with pride
00:28rooted in resilience. Ethiopia is where humanity began and where coffee began, but here coffee is
00:36more than just a drink, it's a ceremony, a moment of community, a way to slow down and connect. I sat
00:42with the locals in small coffee shops, family homes, sipping strong, rich, buna, sometimes with popcorn,
00:49and I swear it tasted better than anything, any coffee I've ever had in my entire life. They still
00:54prepare it the same way their ancestors did thousands of years ago. No machines, no shortcuts,
00:59just patience, intention, and reverence. But my journey only started in Addis Ababa. I soon traveled
01:06south, deeper into the countryside where life feels a little more rooted in tradition, and yes, I came
01:12here to try something bold, raw meat. In southern Ethiopia, practically in regions like Abra Minch and
01:19Beyond eating raw beef, known as teresaga, is a cultural delicacy. Being that I live most of my
01:25time in Japan, I was not afraid to try raw beef because this is a very common thing to eat in Japan
01:31as well, but I've never had it quite like this before. Look at this plate of raw meat that they eat
01:38here in Ethiopia. I'm going to try it for the first time. You dip it in the sauce, and in the injera,
01:44enjoy, and then you eat it raw. Is it good? Yeah.
01:53I'm going to be very honest, I was having a little bit of a time trying to cut the beef,
01:57but I wouldn't let anyone help me because I noticed that here, not everyone was washing their hands that much.
02:05Here in the south, they cut the beef into small cubes and eat it with memita?
02:10Yeah, I want to do it.
02:12Let's do this. This is the fat I can't cut.
02:20Here in the south, they cut the beef into small cubes and eat it with memita?
02:34A bright orange, spicy chili powder, and a dab of mustard. And it's actually really, really, really tasty.
02:43The beef had such a pure flavor and there's fat as well.
02:49You might be wondering, is this healthy to eat raw beef? And the answer is, in southern Ethiopia, yes. Here the cows are so clean and so healthy. All they do is graze all day. They're not shut up with any
02:54anything. They're not owned by any factories. So these cows are super, super, healthy.
03:01So would I do this in any other country? Probably not. These cows are, like I just said,
03:10super clean, not shut up with anything, super healthy.
03:17And like I said, the beef had such a beautiful flavor. I loved the raw meat. It was actually one of the, to be honest, it was one of the best things I've ever had in my travels.
03:32Absolutely delicious. Would I eat this every day? No, but traveling to Ethiopia? Sure. Yeah. And then the second course came, which I was really excited about. This is also raw beef, but it is smothered in butter.
03:48You're supposed to eat all this?
04:06I need much more.
04:17I need meat mixed with butter and hot spices.
04:21Very.
04:22Very lot of local butter.
04:24This one is local cheese.
04:26Yeah.
04:28Fresh, fresh local cheese.
04:30Yeah.
04:32Spinach.
04:34Spinach.
04:35I'm going to teach you, there is gursha.
04:37Gursha?
04:38Gursha, yeah.
04:39And when the gursha comes, you will accept.
04:42Oh.
04:43Okay.
04:44Okay.
04:45Gersha means when we feel that we don't eat that much, like, the way that we feed, we feed Nirmal.
04:59Oh.
04:59Yeah.
05:05You can see on my face here that I didn't like that.
05:07Gersha is an Ethiopian practice where you feed each other if you're feeling like the person isn't eating enough.
05:15But I didn't like it because what I witness all day long here in Ethiopia is the men use the bathroom.
05:21They'll just walk into the bushes and pee and touch their pee-pee parts and then just keep on going on with life.
05:27So I watch the men do that all day long and then they want to feed me.
05:30No, I don't like it.
05:31No, I don't like Gersha.
05:32I am so sorry to the Ethiopian people that don't, you know, that do wash their hands.
05:37But I had witnessed maybe every day I would see, like, 50, 60 men that go to the bathroom in the bushes and then they're eating with their hands.
05:46Like, I don't like it.
05:47So I accepted it out of respect, but I didn't like that part.
05:50However, the beef was absolutely delicious.
05:52I love the cheese.
05:53It was so good.
05:54We're doing the landscape.
06:11Yeah, it's so beautiful.
06:12Whoa, what are they doing?
06:13Yeah, here, like, I'm taking, like, you know, the other unnecessary plants away from the taif, you know.
06:19As long as one of them aren't working.
06:25Yeah.
06:25Yeah.
06:36Yeah.
06:45Avocado.
06:46One of my favorite parts of road tripping through Ethiopia was our avocado stops.
06:52We just pull over, you know, every few hours during the drive, cut open an avocado and just eat it plain.
06:58Because the avocados in Ethiopia are just so good.
07:01They're honestly, I haven't experienced or tasted an avocado so good.
07:05They taste more like fruit.
07:06It is a fruit, but it just has a different flavor here in Ethiopia.
07:10A bit more sweet and creamy and just so tasty on its own.
07:14And we'd also have a lot of papaya breaks.
07:16The papaya here is insane.
07:18It's so tasty.
07:19And so our little snack road trip fruit breaks were one of the highlights of my trip.
07:26Road tripping around Ethiopia.
07:27Yeah.
07:36Hey guys, please, please.
07:38This is where you belong, everyone.
07:40This is where you belong.
07:41Right back in the Africa.
07:42Come and enjoy the landscape, the food, the nature, the culture.
07:47Culture.
07:49Everything.
07:50Yep.
07:50Everything.
07:51Yep.
07:52It's so beautiful.
07:55God will come.
08:00Are we still in the south?
08:10Salaam nom.
08:11You weren't waiting.
08:12Hi.
08:13No, it's Salaam nom.
08:15Salaam.
08:15Salaam.
08:15Salaam.
08:16Salaam nom.
08:17Salaam nom.
08:47You know, Switzerland.
08:49This looks like Switzerland.
08:50Yes.
08:52Traveling to Ethiopia is part of my overall goal of visiting every single country in the world.
08:57And I'm doing this all by myself.
09:00See, I've been on a mission to visit every single country in the world for about the past
09:03seven years.
09:04We've been to 135 of the 195 countries that exist in the world.
09:10I have 60 more countries to go before I can say that I've officially visited every single
09:16country in the world, but it's definitely not easy.
09:20My biggest hurdle is the continent of Africa.
09:23Africa has 54 countries and I've been to 12.
09:27I plan to be in Africa for the entirety of 2025, visiting all 54 of her beautiful nations, but it's not easy.
09:37I could definitely use your help.
09:39I started a GoFundMe and it's linked down in the description box and a donation of any amount to my GoFundMe would be earth-shaking, life-changing for this goal.
09:49It's so expensive, the accommodation, the visas, the vaccines, the insurance, the taxis, the buses, the planes, and all the unexpected things.
10:01But just know, you guys, I'm never going to give up.
10:04Never.
10:05This goal isn't easy.
10:06It takes everything out of me.
10:08But with your guys' help and support, I know we can finish this.
10:11Again, if you could make a donation to my GoFundMe linked in the description box, it would mean the absolute world to me.
10:18And I'll see you guys in the next one.
