01:09His record, 38 victories, two defeats, one draw.
01:1531 of those victories coming by way of knockout.
01:21He is the former junior featherweight champion of the world.
01:25He is the former WBO featherweight champion of the world.
01:32He is making his 15th world title appearance.
01:38He is the reigning, defending WBO junior lightweight champion of the world.
01:49From San Juan's in El Tipec, Mexico, Emmanuel El Vaquero Navarrete.
01:59Veteran referee from California, Raul Caiz Jr., his 764th bout officiated.
02:18We'll be the third man inside the ropes for this world championship rematch.
02:25All right, gentlemen, you received the instructions.
02:28The rest of you will know what I expect.
02:30Good, clean fight.
02:31Here for you.
02:36Here for you.
02:37So here we go.
02:40Mark Kriegel will be scoring.
02:41And Bernardo, of course, our ace ringside reporter.
02:44Joe Tessitore and Tim Bradley with you on the call ringside.
02:47And, Timmy, I want to get into the conversation of something that Navarrete said to Mark.
02:51And that is the left hand.
02:53He was coming off left-hand surgery when he had the Baranchek fight.
02:56He said, my hand is fixed.
02:57I feel healthy.
02:58I feel rehabbed out.
02:59It wasn't the case when I fought at 135 pounds.
03:02I was fighting one-handed.
03:04I didn't even get the 600 punches.
03:05He was usually throwing upwards of 1,000.
03:08And I don't want to put too much as we're off to a fast start right away with Valdez.
03:11But when they had this first fight, Navarrete landed 216 punches.
03:16That's the most by a Valdez opponent.
03:18He was throwing 87 punches per round.
03:21So I do think that we can look at the punch stats tonight as a left hook lands early on
03:26and take away knowing where Navarrete actually is with his health.
03:30I agree with you 1,000%.
03:31And he's throwing that lead hand.
03:35In different ways.
03:37Jabs, hooks, and already committing downstairs.
03:42Navarrete is an awkward.
03:44Awkward has an awkward style.
03:45And he also has six inches of reach on Oscar Valdez.
03:50But right now what I like about Oscar is he's committing downstairs early.
03:54He's coming out and he's being aggressive with his jab.
03:57He's beating Navarrete to the punch as of right now.
04:05You know, immediately when you look at Navarrete, it's often the case where you look at his body,
04:13you look at his midsection, you say, what are we dealing with here?
04:16This is a 130-pound fight.
04:19And he came in at 145.6 earlier today, Timmy.
04:26Valdez declined the opportunity to step on the scale today.
04:31There's that uppercut right there.
04:32Left uppercut.
04:33Navarrete saw that lean from Oscar Valdez.
04:36Shooting that uppercut right up the middle.
04:37That's his bread and butter.
04:38He loves that shot.
04:40Comes out of nowhere.
04:41Here, Tess.
04:42Let's go.
04:43Wait.
04:44That's the bucket of box.
04:46But a moment ago, I saw Oscar Valdez actually start to try to move to his right.
04:51He had a little success moving to his right with his right hand.
04:54He was able to place a body shot.
04:56There it is again.
04:57Right hand to the body.
04:58Able to land for Oscar Valdez.
05:00That's something different, Tess, because in the first fight, Oscar Valdez never moved to his right.
05:05He kept continuously moving towards his left.
05:07So nice adjustment thus far this round for Oscar Valdez, moving in both directions.
05:14There he is again, moving to his right.
05:16They're very conscious of it, too.
05:19You can tell it's a point of emphasis.
05:24Nice tie-up tactic as well.
05:26That was something that he said he's been working on.
05:29Tying up Navarrete, not just giving distance and disengaging with his hands down and getting caught with shots.
05:35You know what that gets filled with, that distance.
05:37That uppercut again.
05:39Navarrete.
05:40Some awkward angles, and a knockdown is scored.
05:44The awkward offensive attack of Navarrete scores a knockdown.
05:52Final 10 seconds of round number one.
05:5410 seconds.
06:03Time.
06:03Time.
06:11¿Te agarró, hijo?
06:16Agarrá, agarrá.
06:16Daddy, we got a small cut.
06:19Middle of the eyebrows punch.
06:21De distancia y hay que empezar la metera.
06:24Timothy, Tim, small cut, punch.
06:52Yeah, I got it.
06:52Punch.
06:54Let's go.
06:56Seconds out.
06:57Mouthpiece in.
06:58Protector.
06:59Mouthpiece.
07:01Stand back.
07:02Hasta para atrás.
07:06A sweeping right hand to the temple by Emmanuel Navarrete in the closing seconds of round one scored the knockdown.
07:15And what does that usually do, Tess?
07:16It takes their legs.
07:17And that's exactly what happened when I saw this.
07:20Right on the temple right there.
07:21You see his legs give out.
07:26Oscar didn't seem to be really hurt by that shot.
07:29It just, you know, he got caught on that temple and your legs just seem to go.
07:33Good exchange on the inside.
07:36Navarrete landed a right hand.
07:38And now trading and Valdez ties up.
07:40Look.
07:42This is getting rugged early on, Timmy.
07:44And one of the things that Oscar told us is, is that he's going to have to control his emotions in there.
07:51And he's starting to get drug into a firefight right now with the heavy puncher, the heavier puncher in Navarrete.
07:57A look at the odds that they have shifted overwhelmingly in favor of Navarrete after the early goings that knocked down scored in round number one.
08:09Nice quick change up in levels with his offense coming off that jab.
08:14Nice right hand from Oscar Valdez.
08:16It was great.
08:16It was great.
08:17Yes, it was.
08:18Able to counter and go right down the middle.
08:24But again.
08:24Snapping jab.
08:25Navarrete's going to wait.
08:27He's going to wait for Oscar to, again, that lean, that lean forward over that front knee.
08:32Just putting himself nice, nice counters over there.
08:36A lot of success with the white hands by Oscar Valdez.
08:40That's a nice adjustment.
08:42But that uppercut.
08:43Navarrete's looking for that uppercut.
08:45That's what he wants.
08:52Nice adjustment to eight.
08:53Not going to the left foot right away.
08:56But shooting those right hands straight.
09:01Two-punch combination from Navarrete.
09:03He just takes that little tip to the left.
09:05And the left hand comes in hard again.
09:08Valdez came forward seemingly to tie up.
09:10But now, a big attack from Navarrete as he backs him into that neutral corner.
09:20Flash ahead.
09:21They continue on.
09:23No cuts.
09:23Move in, move in, move in.
09:26Two shots are heavy coming from Navarrete.
09:28You should hear these shots.
09:29They thudding shots.
09:31He has a left hand now as well.
09:33And he's working it overtime right now.
09:36In combination form.
09:38Navarrete said he wants to stop Oscar Valdez.
09:41He says, I don't want it to go to decision.
09:43I want to stop him.
09:44I'm coming out fast.
09:45I'm coming out hard.
09:46And I'm going to give it everything I have.
09:49He has great confidence in his surgically repaired left hand.
09:54That has always been the weapon of choice.
09:57Good jab by Oscar.
10:02Oscar had his moments in round two.
10:05So Navarrete showed the power again.
10:10A team man over.
10:11Done.
10:16Agarra aire.
10:21Agarra aire, agarra aire.
10:23Agarra aire.
10:25¿Cómo te sientes?
10:26Ok.
10:27Bien, ok.
11:15Joe and Tim calling the action here ringside of our world championship rematch.
11:19Oscar Valdez, Emmanuel Navarrete.
11:21Valdez in a hole early on.
11:23But a spirited effort by him in round number two.
11:26Bouncing back after going down in the closing moments of round number one from a sweeping
11:30right hand to the temple.
11:31In that second round, Navarrete had a 20-16 connected vantage.
11:36He has landed 25 power punches to this point.
11:41Bernardo, what can you tell us of the corner of Oscar Valdez?
11:46Eddie Reynoso just told me, look, I need him to relax and work on his defense.
11:50He cannot repeat the same punches.
11:52When he tries to go to the well too many times, that's when Navarrete catches him.
11:56So, he needs the various punches because Navarrete is slow when you make him look slow.
12:01And that's what you touched on.
12:02What Bernardo just reported about not being predictable.
12:05In your lab, you broke that down and that was a big headline for you.
12:10Not being predictable.
12:11Using his legs.
12:12Changing his position.
12:13Not standing directly in front of Navarrete.
12:16Navarrete has heavy hands.
12:17He's not one of those guys that you want to be just absorbing punches from.
12:21You want to make him miss completely.
12:24You see his balance isn't always there when he throws shots.
12:27You see his inertia takes him the way that he's going with his shots.
12:32So, those are opportunities for Oscar Valdez to make him pay when he's off balance.
12:40He tried to dig in with that right hand to the body.
12:43Works his way to the inside.
12:45As Navarrete was trying to crash down with the right hand.
12:55Good disengagement right there from Oscar.
12:58Taking care of defense as well.
12:59Getting out at the right time.
13:01Navarrete's starting to move his head now.
13:04Trying to become elusive.
13:10But that's what Oscar got to do.
13:12I mean, if he's going to win this, he's got to win this in the boxing fashion.
13:15He can't.
13:16He's not going to win this battle in the fight.
13:18Got to stay disciplined.
13:20Stay behind his craft.
13:21Stop leaning forward like that.
13:23Because when he leans forward, he's bringing his head closer to the punches of Navarrete.
13:31It's a poor posture by Oscar Valdez.
13:35And Navarrete, I'm telling you, he's going to set him up sooner than later with that uppercut.
13:39Good tie-up right there from Oscar.
13:43Was out in a bad position right there, and he tied his man up.
13:46That's a great tactic he used against a pressure guy.
13:48It's a short right hand on that exchange by Valdez.
13:51Tried to come with the left hook.
13:53And look at the volume punching.
13:55Just the swarming from Navarrete.
13:57That, of course, was not a knockdown there.
13:59They're going to clean off the gloves, and they'll finish up the final 15 seconds here of round number three.
14:04Navarrete, he looks like he's about 160 pounds.
14:06Doesn't he?
14:07Don't he?
14:07Look at this.
14:07Did you see the tire around his waist?
14:10He looks strong.
14:11He never looks the part, but he gets the results.
14:13He's looking strong.
14:15Heavy-handed, big body.
14:17He looks!
14:18He never looks in a good way!
14:21Good, thanks.
14:26Hey, Camara.
14:30Respira.
15:03Exacto.
15:04No, no debe haber confiación.
15:06Todo con precaución.
15:08Si te sientes cerca y ya está en agua.
15:10Ya está sacando más.

16:33No, no, no.
16:34in and then you just release real quick and then you let your hands off veteran move that's a
16:39veteran move right there wow there's that sweeping left hand it sends him off balance back into the
16:44red corner there's an uppercut again oscar's he's looking for his own left hook he's looking for
16:53that big home run as well head clash again you know i know valdez spent a lot of time saying
17:02that was to his detriment looking for the big singular shot but his desperation exactly
17:07navarrete brings you to that place you know in the corner bernardo was reporting
17:12that eddie reynoso saying you gotta stay relaxed you gotta stay composed but navarrete
17:18fights in a way when he's at his best where it's tough to do that yes
17:25navarrete makes you fight
17:27when he's landing big heavy shots like that it's like how are you gonna keep him off of you
17:35you gotta fight him back in spots but again oscar gotta be he just gotta be
17:39picking spots wisely test you know when they're outside like this he gotta sneak in he gotta sneak
17:45in behind good defense head movement get his offense off and then he needs a smother and then
17:51get out make sure he gets far away from navarrete and not sit there and
17:55because something's don't get in test
18:00nearly another clash of heads
18:06but you can just see the desire in the heart of us about this man he is doing everything he
18:12possibly can right now that's never been quite that determination is always there undoubtedly it is
18:19man man man
18:30knockdown scored at the final second of round four
18:38come on bring the bell
18:42count the knockdown
18:50benoit count the knockdown
18:53chris count the knockdown
18:55after this round i want you to come up
19:13so if you just stay down the stairs and i'm going to bring them to you
19:23for those of you who may have been taking the commercial break right at the bell that was
19:32ruled a knockdown at the final second of the fourth round this was a knockdown
19:38scored by emmanuel navarrete look at that sharp right hand and then the follow-up attack
19:44and now before this next round begins the ringside position wants to take a look at oscar valdez
19:52here we go come in box
19:54the most interesting thing for me about that sequence was is that
20:00oscar valdez was looking to tie up but navarrete was rotating around him throwing those shots
20:08not allowing him to tie him up
20:13oh big left hook by oscar he's gonna send it here i mean he's sending it but navarrete's taking it
20:19he's taking it on the chin a few times test here we go max bernardo what can you tell us about the
20:27health of oscar valdez i just spoke with eddie ronoso and i said is something up with oscar's
20:32right foot and he said yes he's somewhat injured earlier in the fight so he's dealing with that
20:37yeah that first knockdown he was in a bad position his foot was caught behind him
20:42when he landed and that may have tweaked his his ankle
20:52so they confirmed the right foot injury in the corner of valdez he has been down already two
20:58times his body shot in this world championship rematch he's going he will always give everything
21:04he can that is the nature of this proud mexican warrior sharp combination from navarrete
21:17box you know one of the one of the things that oscar has gone away from is going down to that body i
21:22mean when i'm seeing i'm looking at that body of navarrete i'm saying that's that's unfit i'm gonna
21:28take advantage of that because i want to take some of that steam away and zap off those punches
21:33for later in the fight i'm here it's the fifth right now and if i invest early on i'm hoping
21:40that it will slow him down and take some of his power away
21:51said we were going to watch for the volume punching and the total output of navarrete he
21:55is below the numbers in terms of total punches that he typically has been when he's on his best
22:00including the first fight between these two however his effectiveness with the power punches the 56
22:06power punches landed to this point and the two knockdowns scored that has been the difference
22:11navarrete right now is taking this round off
22:15taking this round off right now trying to recuperate from that last round the end of that last round
22:21maybe looking for a second win
22:27it's been what he does in the last half minute of his best work that has been most effective let's
22:34see how he finishes up this fifth round as well does inches forward moments of aggression that body
22:40oscar valdez
22:46long striding left hand oh not this mouthpiece came out on that punch
23:01right hand was being thrown navarrete in the southpaw position coming underneath you rarely ever see
23:31this type of counter in the sport of boxing baby that was well placed well timed by navarrete
23:41that mouthpiece went flying in the first row
23:47he has taken some damage but look at his face not deterred whatsoever still look hungry still look
23:55determined just who he is to increase i have mad respect in that fifth round as as all of a sudden
24:03in that final minute almost as if we knew it was coming he said ah he's taken part of this round off
24:08he's recuperated then all of a sudden in the last minute he catches fire did navarrete and the world
24:13champion ends up throwing a fight high 89 punches and landing a fight high 27 punches including 20 power
24:21power punches with that left hand that had the mouthpiece flying out of the mouth of valdez
24:33that right hand is landing
24:34continuously for oscar valdez but he gotta gotta add something to it he gotta go downstairs he gotta
24:42continue to commit downstairs on navarrete it's extremely important and as you see
24:48as i say that he's going downstairs with the left hook
24:59he's looking for that combination now on the inside
25:08box
25:13yeah there's using that tight high guard
25:17deflecting a lot of the shots right now but again he's continuously leaning forward and that uppercut just
25:22split the guard right there
25:36a lot of those shots are strained behind the head test
25:40and there's an uppercut there's that left uppercut and he's got a lot of time to work with here
25:46Valdez trying to punch between punches in round six but navarrete got him again
25:55been talking about that uppercut from round one test
26:03here we go he's leaning forward leaning over that front knee
26:08giving it to break navarrete a free lane for that uppercut his favorite punch
26:14no no no no here we go box
26:19that's one habit he didn't correct one habit to
26:24two correct it's a bad habit oscar leaning forward like that
26:30there's a left hand to the body and another knock down oh my what a shot
26:37six seven eight he's gotta beat the count yes and he can't
26:44not get a victory
26:46Emmanuel Navarrete
26:52take your time don't go to it
26:56take your time
27:13yeah
27:20yeah
