00:00We continue with a rematch, let's first welcome to the ring, the undefeated, Bruno Brunello Suarez!
00:30Bruno Brunello! Bruno Brunello! Bruno Brunello! Bruno Brunello!
00:55Bruno Brunello!
00:58Well, there was frankly no reason to believe that Bruno Saras could be competitive with Jaime Munguia last time out, let alone knock him out.
01:08Saras' greatest triumphs to that point were on the second tier of the European level and as a professional kickboxer.
01:16Even his own coach, Murad Hadou, said that he was lukewarm about the idea of accepting the fight.
01:22But Saras shocked the world and maybe even his own coach a little bit, scoring the Ring Magazine Upset of the Year in December of last year, landing a devastating right hand that changed his life.
01:35Despite being dubbed the French Rocky by many reporters, Saras is maybe the only boxer alive who has not actually seen any of the Rocky movies,
01:43but does say that he's determined to continue writing his own story, the one of the Frenchman who never stopped believing in himself.
01:52Shocked the world with the shot heard around the world, at least heard around Mexico.
01:57That was a homecoming fight for Jaime Munguia.
02:00It literally said homecoming on the bill at the arena for Jaime Munguia.
02:05He was coming off that win over Eric Bazinian.
02:09Here comes Bruno Saras to be the patsy.
02:12Instead, he played the foil.
02:14Tremendous right hand from Bruno Saras to change his fortunes.
02:18Now he's out to prove that he is not just a one-hit wonder, that he really is a contender at 168.
02:24I keep hearing lucky right hand, lightning in the bottle.
02:29Saras prepared for this.
02:31He's undefeated.
02:32He was ready for that right hand.
02:34That right hand will be available again.
02:36Can he land it with that much power and do the same damage?
02:40We're going to find out.
02:40And now let's welcome the former world champion, Jaime Munguia!
03:00There's no shortage of fighters who have been on the wrong end of Ring Magazine upsets of the year,
03:29who have returned to have great nights.
03:32But there are perhaps even more that have not.
03:35And Jaime Munguia is looking to buck that trend.
03:39Munguia's upset loss was a historically significant one in terms of the betting lines.
03:44Entering the fight as a minus 2,500 favorite.
03:48Tonight, he's still a minus 700 favorite or so.
03:52And as the oddsmakers seem to believe, Munguia feels that the knockout loss was due to a fluky lapse in concentration.
04:01And that when given the chance, he'll correct course and score a knockout win tonight.
04:06To ensure that, he's playing quite the hand.
04:09Seeking the guidance of Eddie Reynoso and Canelo Alvarez.
04:13As he heads into a fight with all the chips on the table.
04:16Yeah, I don't think you can downplay the significance of this fight for Jaime Munguia.
04:22Just 28 years old, you can't say that his career is on the line in this fight.
04:27But a loss to Canelo Alvarez is understandable, even accepted.
04:32Two straight loss to Bruno Saras would be an enormous set of this.
04:36Ladies and gentlemen, this bout is scheduled for 12 rounds in the Super Middleweight Division.
04:56Brought to you by Riyadh Season and the General Entertainment Authority, Gia.

05:52Introducing to you first, fighting tonight out of the blue corner.
05:57He comes to the ring wearing white, blue, and gold.
06:00And weighed in officially at 167.7 pounds.
06:05Coming to us from Marseille, France.
06:08He brings an undefeated record with 26 wins, two draws, five wins coming by way of knockout.
06:17Currently ranked number seven by Ring Magazine.
06:22Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the undefeated Bruno Brunello Suwass.
06:31And his opponent across the ring, fighting tonight out of the red corner.
06:41He comes to the ring wearing the color of the Saudi Arabia sand and weighed in the same as his opponent, 167.7 pounds.
06:52His professional record consists of 44 wins, two defeats, 35 of his 44 wins coming by way of knockout.
07:04Currently ranked number eight by Ring Magazine.
07:07He is the former WBO super welterweight champion of the world.
07:15Damas y caballeros de Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.
07:23Jaime Mugia.
07:26Punches there.
07:39Okay.
07:39That's the height.
07:41Okay.
07:42Punches there.
07:43Anything below that is low.
07:45Okay, gentlemen.
07:47Obey my commands in the event of a knockdown.
07:49The fighter standing will go to the furthest neutral corner and stay there.
07:53Protect yourself at all times.
07:55Touch gloves, please.
07:56Miss show.
08:03Well, a lot has changed in terms of how we think about a fight between Jaime Munguia and Bruno Saras.
08:10Munguia, as we mentioned, still a minus 700 favorite in this one or so.
08:16But these are now two top 10 Ring Magazine super middleweights going at it.
08:22Can Bruno Saras affirm that it was not a fluke?
08:25You can see off the faceoff that Saras is naturally the bigger man.
08:31He had a wider torso.
08:33Munguia coming up from 154.
08:35You can see if he's slightly smaller as far as frame.
08:39Munguia got knocked out in that last fight.
08:43But there was a lot that was going right for him leading up to that point.
08:46Knocked down Saras in the second round.
08:48The body work was working.
08:50He pushed Saras up against the ropes repeatedly.
08:52So he's got to tweak a couple of things.
08:54But much of what he was doing in that first fight should be effective in the second.
08:59You can see Saras went for that home run right hand right off the bat.
09:02But he needs to set that up.
09:04Munguia is going to be looking for that right hand.
09:06So soften up the body with those jabs.
09:08And then you can maybe catch him off guard over the top.
09:11Sergio, I'm interested to see what kind of tweaks that Eddie Reynoso makes the game Jaime Munguia.
09:18First full camp, first fight with Eddie Reynoso.
09:21I think we're seeing one early tweak here, Chris.
09:24And Sergio, I'll throw this to you as well.
09:26Where Munguia is carrying his left hand almost high in an exaggerated fashion to guard against that right hand.
09:32That's one of them.
09:33And anytime Saras moves to his left, you can see that Munguia steps to the right.
09:38So he's going to make that ring smaller and smaller and cut off the Frenchman anytime he moves to his left.
09:44I think the question is going to be, as this fight progresses, does Jaime Munguia revert to war?
09:50Do we start to see the same Jaime Munguia that just goes to war with every opponent he's been in with?
09:55No matter who's been in Jaime Munguia's corner, what trainer has been trying to take those bad habits away, they always come back and haunt him.
10:05A fighter like Saras, who has suddenly developed confidence, can be extremely dangerous.
10:11Of course, he knows he can knock Munguia out, but also, Chris, this is a guy who is still working a sales job outside of boxing.
10:19This is someone who twice has had university exams the day of and the day before fights.
10:26Now, suddenly, he's a top 10 super middleweight.
10:28There's a different level of belief in Bruno Saras now.
10:31No question.
10:32He was brought in as cannon fodder the first time around.
10:36Now, he's one win away from being considered a legit contender.
10:40I say it all the time, and Mannix doesn't believe me, but I tell him that boxers are smart.
10:44They don't need an education to be smart.
10:46It's just they're put in a position.
10:48They come from poverty that they go into the gym before they go to school, but Saras is an exception.
10:54He's got two master's degrees.
10:55He's smart in every capacity.
10:58How many credits away are you?
11:01Relax, Mr. Boston College.
11:03See right here, Munguia's not jabbing enough.
11:06You know, that's the thing that Eric Morales was trying to teach him, you know, closing the gap with the jab,
11:11especially when you have a mover moving around the ring laterally.
11:16Left hand to the body there from Munguia, but a pretty good opening round there for Saras.
11:20Yeah, you gave up that first round.
11:36You've got to get your rhythm back.
11:37You will get your rhythm, you'll do it in the future of the round.
11:41You don't have to do more, not too much.
11:42You're perfect, Bruno.
11:43Okay?
11:45Attention.
11:46He's going to bring more than you.
11:47He thinks you can't win.
11:48If he doesn't win, he won't win.
11:50He'll take your time away.
11:51Leave it like that.
11:52It's going to work.
11:53You have taken the first round.
11:54Okay?
11:56What's it going?
11:57Magnificent.
11:58Jabba, likeżys.
11:59That's what I do for you.
12:001, 2, 3, 2.
12:01Okay?
12:01You managed to get your rhythm.
12:02It's perfect.
12:02It's going to help you, it's going to explode in front of you.
12:11Take the taboo.
12:13It's perfect.
12:14I understood two boxing.
12:16I took one year of college French, guys.
12:19I'm good.
12:21I apologize, my 12th grade French did not pick that up,
12:25as well as perhaps it should as round two begins.
12:30As you heard the Muguia corner say, you gave up that round,
12:33maybe now it's time to get started.
12:35And you discussed the possible adaptations that Muguia would have now in the Reynoso camp.
12:41That's kind of a Canelo-esque thing to do, too, Sergio.
12:44I'll put this to you, Maddox, kind of just taking a picture in that opening round
12:48and then getting things going.
12:49That's what Canelo Alvarez has become known for,
12:53downloading information in that first round,
12:56figuring out the tendencies of your opponent.
12:58Jaime Muguia, you should have a pretty clear idea of how Bruno Saras is going to try to fight.
13:03He's going to be looking for that right hand.
13:05That right hand's real.
13:06Like, he only had four knockouts coming into that fight against Jaime Muguia,
13:09but he loads up on that right hand.
13:13Good right hand for Muguia there a moment ago.
13:16Sergio, one habit that Saras does have,
13:19maybe it owes to that oscillating between kickboxing and boxing for a period of time.
13:24He crosses his right foot over.
13:26Yeah, I was about to, Corey, you know your stuff.
13:28When he moves to his left, he crosses his right foot.
13:31That's a big no-no.
13:32You need to, your lead foot, your left foot,
13:34is the one that's doing all the guiding.
13:36When he moves to his left, Saras brings his right foot across his body.
13:40That's a big no-no.
13:41You're off balance and can get attacked.
13:45It's Ross looking for a left hook there.
13:49You know, Saras doing a pretty good job protecting that midsection.
13:52One punch that works for Jaime Muguia really well
13:54is that left hook to the body.
13:56Historically, Bruno Saras has been vulnerable to body shots.
13:59Yeah, and I think if he's going to take advantage of Saras moving his right foot like that,
14:05it's going to be a right hook to the body that's going to be money for Muguia.
14:10Big attempt at left hook there from Muguia.
14:18Yeah.
14:19Perhaps Saras could be more susceptible to body shots, as we mentioned.
14:22That's right hook.
14:23Nice right hand there from Saras.
14:26Although he is certainly a super middleweight now,
14:28even in his post-fight interview after beating Muguia,
14:31he said, I'm not sure that I belong here.
14:33I might be going back to 160, so he might naturally be bigger,
14:36but that might not be where he's athletically most comfortable.
14:39You know, when I sized him up, we're about the same frame,
14:41but looking at him now without a shirt, he has another wide torso.
14:45You know, fighters like that, you know, they carry all their weight in the middle.
14:48Kind of like Carlos Valdemir, you know, they had all of that wide torso.
14:53They were strong fighters that did if you stay right in front of him.
15:02Saras taking away that right hand well.
15:04It did eat a nice stiff jab there from Muguia.
15:07Muguia now touches the body of Saras with a left hook.
15:10Muguia very responsible with bringing his hands back to defense.
15:16ο saas que piste es.
15:24Tame la!
15:25Amagaste mejor este round eh.
15:27Agarra airecito, relaja.
15:28Así te quiero no más.
15:30Nomás listo en tu pelea,
15:32listo en tu pelea y todo lo que tenemos que hacer.
15:34Y empezar a dominar, lo vas a empezar a dominar con tu defensa,
15:37and then we're going to be counter-golpeing,
15:39you, eh?
15:40Okay.
15:41Sin desesperarte, wey.
15:42Eh?
15:43No va que la mano, wey.
15:44Okay.
15:45Okay.
15:46Okay.
15:47Agua.
15:48Cuando pegues tus combinaciones, wey,
15:50no te me salgas así, eh?
15:52Pega tus combinaciones y de volada aquí arriba, wey.
15:55Porque te puede estar leyendo,
15:56está leyendo, wey,
15:57tamaño arriba.
15:58Pinta si no entras.
15:59Pinta si giras.
16:00Pinta espacito atrás.
16:02Aquí nomás te estás bloqueando, wey,
16:04ya no cae infierradito.
16:06Es fácil lo que tienes que hacer.
16:08Bien.
16:09Nomás tiene inteligencia.
16:10¿Verdad?
16:11¿Verdad?
16:12¿Verdad?
16:13¿Verdad?
16:14¡Verdad!
16:15¡Verdad!
16:20A lot of instructions there being given by Eddie Reynoso,
16:22a lot of great instructions,
16:23basically saying that Muguilla's doing right,
16:25but he's being set up with that right hand,
16:27so he needs to,
16:28he needs to pretend he's going to attack,
16:30feint, and then feint and attack.
16:32So you're going to switch up your attack coming in,
16:34and don't pull back.
16:35Do not lean back your head if you're Muguilla.
16:42Left hand in the body there for Muguilla.
16:43Saras felt it was low.
16:45No, that wasn't low.
16:46That's just a good shot,
16:47and if you keep digging that forearm,
16:48that forearm and that elbow will keep digging into your rib.
16:51Yeah, and I would say Saras' trunks are very high.
16:53So he might have thought it was low,
16:55but that was probably right on the legal belt line.
17:02This is the most I've seen Muguilla faint with that heavy front foot.
17:06It's unnatural to him, but that's exactly what they worked on,
17:09because that's what Reynoso wants in the corner.
17:12Faint that front foot, get him to bite, then you attack.
17:14See Jaime Muguilla's family, seated ringside.
17:20Hoping that their son can get back in the win column.
17:25Muguilla staying consistent with that heavy jab.
17:29And one thing I think we are seeing in terms of changes to his technique,
17:37the work of Muguilla is a little bit tighter now.
17:40You're seeing some touches of that Reynoso and Canelo style.
17:44Yeah, tight guard and discipline.
17:46I think that's the main thing,
17:47because Muguilla will throw discipline to the wind.
17:50You know, as soon as he landed one shot,
17:52he would just go after his opponent.
17:54Now he's doing a lot more responsibly behind that hard jab.
17:58And once he lets go of that jab, he brings it right back to his face.
18:03Well Chris, that's also something that Muguilla has kind of had to learn
18:07as he's gone up the scale.
18:08At 154, he was so physically overwhelming.
18:12But as he's gone up in weight, he's had to grind out wins,
18:16like the one over Derry Vincenco, like the one over Bosnia.
18:19Yeah, he's always been the kind of fighter that offense is his best defense.
18:25That's led to some very physical fights as he moved up the scale.
18:28Gabe Rosado is a physical fight.
18:30Derry Vincenco is a physical fight.
18:31Canelo Alvarez, 12 rounds against one of the best in boxing.
18:35He's had some wear and tear over the last couple of years.
18:37Both these fighters really think, and this is the first time I've seen Muguilla
18:45focus and concentrate so much on what his opponent's going to do.
18:49Normally Muguilla's on the front foot just punching at anything and everything,
18:54but now he's been calculated with what he's going to throw first.
18:58And of course, Saras is just waiting to counter with that overhand hook around the guard.
19:02That's going to be his money punch.
19:04Two smart fighters right in front of each other right now.
19:09Who's going to make the mistake first?
19:11So Ross looking for that right hand, trying to wrap it around the guard of Muguilla there.
19:15How do you do it for round 3?
19:17Yes, I'm up.
19:18Bruno, he's not an attack.
19:19They're just a sharp attack, but he's afraid you come.
19:22You smoke your mouth, you only take a fuck.
19:25You're not.
19:26What's your time?
19:28Every time you put your braver, that's your immaculate,
19:32every time you put your collar.
19:38You see?
19:39What's important?
19:40Every time you put your arms in, it's the case of a dismissal.
19:43Every time you put your couch in.
19:45Pay attention.
19:47After your job, you have to work after your job, after your mort.
19:51You have to pay attention.
19:54Okay?
19:55Continue to work with your hands.
19:57Your job is to go all alone.
19:58You don't have to worry about it.
19:59Okay?
20:00It's okay.
20:01You're the champion.
20:04Stay vigilant.
20:05You're the champion.
20:06You're the champion.
20:07You're the champion.
20:08You're the champion.
20:09You're the champion.
20:10You're the champion.
20:11You're the champion.
20:12You're the champion.
20:13Round four.
20:14Round four now underway. Bruno Saras looking very calm in the corner.
20:24And with that, let's send it over to Claudia Trejos.
20:26Claudia, what are you hearing?
20:27Thank you, Corey.
20:28There's a lot of confidence in Saras' corner.
20:30They actually have made no adjustment.
20:33There was no concern on the full work at all.
20:36They just want him to stay out of the range, walk in, close the gap, and then just keep
20:40boxing.
20:41And this is why we have the best French speaker of the four of us on the case here.
20:46Merci beaucoup.
20:48He's trying to stab with that jab to the body of Munguia.
21:01Saras has talked about how even though his life has changed in many ways because of the
21:06Munguia win, particularly financially, a lot hasn't.
21:09He still trains in the same gym that he's always trained in, next to kids, moms bringing their
21:15kids for children's boxing classes.
21:17It's not a glamorous superstar lifestyle that Saras is living back home in France.
21:24I think Munguia is trying to get Saras into the second half of the fight.
21:32That's why he's so calm and patient right now.
21:35Because Saras, for everything that he is, most of his fights are six and eight round fights.
21:41So once he gets past that eighth round, he's going to be in unfamiliar territory, even though
21:45he only has one 12 round fight under his belt in 28 fights.
21:49Well that would explain to a degree some of the judicious punching that we're seeing
21:52from Munguia.
21:53The first fight, whenever he had Saras against the ropes, he was letting his hands go.
21:57He was landing good shots.
21:58Caught Saras in the second round during an exchange.
22:01He's not doing that quite as frequently in this fight.
22:07I think perhaps an element as well is there's no longer the expectation or the compulsion that
22:12he has to knock Saras out in the last fight.
22:15That was the expectation.
22:16It was a homecoming fight.
22:17Sergio, you and I have called a Munguia homecoming fight.
22:20You know what the deal is in a fight like that.
22:23It went the other way.
22:24Any boxer would tell you that they hate homecoming fights.
22:27There's too much pressure to shine.
22:29There's too many obligations to fill.
22:31There's too many fans and family that want front row seats.
22:33It's just, it's a distraction.
22:35And that's why a lot of these hometown fights, when champions go, they haven't looked good
22:40but they're not, oh, they've lost.
22:45Next right hand, good counter over the top there from Saras.
22:50Good shot.
22:51See, Saras is sneaky explosive, man.
22:54That's a very, very difficult move to jump in with a left hook and then come under with a left uppercut.
23:00That takes speed, agility, and foot balance.
23:05Bruno Saras, I can understand why he's an undefeated fighter in 28 fights, man.
23:09We've got to give this Frenchman his props.
23:11He's no pushover.
23:12He may have been an unknown, but he's got to fight.
23:14Well, here's a man looking to pull off what may be a Saras-esque upset if he can pull it off.
23:29William Scull getting wrapped up and ready for his date with Canelo Alvarez tonight.
23:34And one question I have, Sergio, is kind of what is coursing through William Scull right now?
23:40He looked a little bit jittery at the weigh-in on Friday.
23:43He looked jittery at the press conference.
23:45He looked jittery at the weigh-in.
23:46And even when he does try to talk a little bit tough, it just doesn't seem like him.
23:51He knows that Canelo is the star of the show.
23:53So I think it serves him right to just, you know, be quiet, focus on what you have to do,
23:58focus on the game plan, and that's going to be your best bet.
24:02Corners, 10 seconds.
24:10Seconds out.
24:14Round five.
24:20Round five now underway.
24:22Very competitive start to this contest between Jaime Munguilla and Bruno Saras as we send it back over to Claudia Trejos.
24:28A lot of caution on that corner, and everyone also wants Munguilla to maintain his distance
24:33and be very careful with that overhand right that could come in and do some damage.
24:41You know, it's really wild how things can change for a guy like Bruno Saras, who frankly might not have been discovered.
24:48We see how good Saras now actually is, who might still be toiling in obscurity in France, if not getting a fairly late-notice opportunity against Jaime Munguilla in December.
24:58Yeah, man, that's why he's got to, you know, strike whenever he's given an opportunity.
25:02And like I said in the end of the last round, Saras can fight.
25:07You know, his record indicates he's a straight boxer with only five knockouts and 26 wins, but he's more than that.
25:15He has more power than his knockout ratio indicates, especially with that right hand.
25:19Yeah, on paper, he's a very easy guy to overlook. Undefeated record, but four knockouts coming into that Munguilla fight, and respectfully, he was basically a club fighter in France.
25:29His level of competition was very low, so he really was a complete unknown.
25:35But looking out Munguilla is leery of throwing more than one shot. Munguilla is known as a buzzer, a combination puncher, someone that will hit you anywhere that you give him.
25:45He's very careful just throwing single shots, because he knows that Saras is waiting to catch and counter.
25:59Saras offering up that right hand again, that one caught by Munguilla, but you can hear just the weight of that shot.
26:04Saras, despite only having five knockouts, and we saw what he did to Munguilla, but there's some serious depth behind those shots.
26:13I think Munguilla is sort of the best to stop overloading on that right hand. I think you gotta break down Saras.
26:18You really just gotta aim at the body again, aim at the biceps. Keep those shoulders and those arms in check.
26:26That way he can't catch and counter. Keep digging at the biceps.
26:29Sergio, we spent part of last week talking about the lingering effects of a knockout, particularly when it came to Devin Haney going into his first fight back after the beating he took against Ryan Garcia.
26:41I think we're seeing some of the effects of the knockout here behind Munguilla.
26:45Much more selective puncher during this fight.
26:49Selected the right shot there. That's a beautiful left hook to the body and now a right hand as well.
26:53That's what happens when you make a career taking shots.
26:58Whenever you have a granite chin and you rely on that, and then it finally betrays you, you finally get knocked out, you're war-torned, your body.
27:07You can't keep taking that punishment and your confidence is bound to betray you.
27:13Seems like Munguilla getting a little bit of confidence in his offense here as the round comes to a close.
27:18I want you, I want you attentive.
27:31Very attentive.
27:33You gotta get the distance.
27:36Throw two hands and bring the hands right back to your face.
27:40Then step back, or you won't get hit with that uppercut.
27:45You gotta faint before you enter.
27:49He's a counter puncher, remember that.
27:55You threw a random guard, now you gotta throw him right in his chest.
28:01The IBF super lightweight title is on the line Saturday, June 14th,
28:06when Richardson Hitchens takes on George Kambosis Jr. in New York.
28:10Another mega matchup brought to you by DAZN and part of your unrivaled subscription.
28:21Back to action here in Riyadh as Jaime Munguilla looking to avenge his shocking loss at the hands of Bruno Saras.
28:29A better round there in round five for Jaime Munguilla, who seemed a little less tentative with his offense
28:35and now looking the same way as he begins round six.
28:38I agree, that fifth round is the way that Munguilla needs to start this sixth round.
28:41And that's what they're telling him in the corner.
28:43You need to aim at the biceps and the arms of Saras.
28:45You keep digging down the body, but they also said throw two shots and don't pull back.
28:50Saras is a counter punch and that's what he's looking for.
28:53All right, Chris Maddox, let's take a look at your scorecard.
28:55Yeah, I've got a 48-47 in favor of Bruno Saras.
28:57Gave him two of the first three rounds, but that fifth was a clear win for Jaime Munguilla.
29:05Got his momentum going, got his offense going.
29:07It looked like he got some of his confidence back in that round.
29:10So, Bruno Saras up one point on my scorecard, but Jaime Munguilla closed the gap.
29:15That overhand right, I'd rather him, I'd rather Munguilla throw it to the body instead of the top.
29:27See, just like that.
29:28That's going to keep the elbows and forearms in check.
29:31And by doing that, then you can start your combinations and onslaught.
29:35But if you throw it over the top, that's when you can get countered right to the face.
29:40Well, it's a good point, Sergio.
29:41Even going back to the first fight against Saras, that is something that Saras will do.
29:46He'll lean back, he'll take those shots in the arms.
29:48You've heard Munguilla's corner telling him, just take those shots.
29:51Wear his arms down.
29:52Munguilla only got caught in that fight when he pulled back with his hands down.
29:56It was sort of an unusual sequence that he got caught with it.
29:59Yeah, you need to stay in there.
30:00Once you break that distance, once you land that first punch, you've got to stay in there.
30:05You've got to keep your chin tucked, stay in there, and dig away at the body and at the arms.
30:09As long as you're hitting the arms, your opponent's not going to be able to unleash his offense.
30:15Yeah, that knockout was a little bit strange.
30:18Like, Munguilla just seemed to freeze for a split second, drop that right hand, and put Saras to his credit.
30:23Recognized it, loaded up, and landed straight right.
30:26Munguilla loading up on his own right hand here, now staying in there.
30:30Just touching the arms of Saras, now stabbing that jab to the midsection of the Frenchman.
30:36I would like to see Munguilla start peeling the guards of his opponent and going around the guard,
30:43just like David Benavidez was doing against Morel.
30:45If the referee allows it and lets you do it, I think that should be a strategy Munguilla should try to pull.
30:54Saras is very strong.
30:56He's very strong when he keeps his earmuff defense on, so he's just trying to peel it.
30:59That's a tactic that's become more popular ever since the days of Triple G.
31:04You see a lot of Uzbek fighters using that same technique.
31:07Man, I go back to Fernando Vargas to do that technique.
31:14He would do it with I-Corte, I remember.
31:19Alright, let's send it over to Claudia Trejos, who is standing by with a special guest.
31:24We are here with Amir Khan, we'll always have 2004 World Champion.
31:29And we're here in Riyadh, but you're taking boxing to a completely different level.
31:33Tell us about it.
31:34Yeah, so basically on June 13th, I'm going to be doing a big event in Ghana.
31:39But we are going to take boxing to a different level.
31:41Starting going into the promotion side of it.
31:43I was an ex-fighter myself.
31:44I know exactly what a promoter needs to do to the young fighters out there.
31:48And that's why I'm here for now.
31:49I'm going to be helping the young generation to become champions.
31:53I'm looking forward to Ghana.
31:54It's going to be an amazing event.
31:56We've got the BE fighting, headlining.
31:58We've got O'Hara Davis.
32:00We've got so many good fighters.
32:02So I'm looking forward to it.
32:04So today we are from every corner in the world.
32:08Thank you, Amir.
32:09We look forward to doing that.
32:10And Virginia as always as well.
32:11My pleasure.
32:12Back to you guys.
32:13Round 7!
32:14Thank you so much, Claudia.
32:18King Kong promotions.
32:19I can see it, man.
32:20What a great fighter.
32:21Exciting fighter.
32:22And a man that Jaime Munguia could extract a little bit of motivation from.
32:26A man who bounced back from stoppage losses.
32:29And had a wonderful career.
32:30And now entering the world of promotions.
32:36Round 7 now underway.
32:37It feels like the momentum is in the Munguia corner at this point.
32:43He is having to think for every second of this fight.
32:49Bruno Saras.
32:50Certainly showing here tonight.
32:52Whether he's up on the cards or marginally down.
32:55He has proven that he belongs at this level.
32:58I think Bruno Saras is going to have to show Munguia something else than just that right hand.
33:01You see him there try a little bit of a rear uppercut.
33:04Munguia's camp has obviously been keen on that right hand all throughout.
33:08I've been talking about it in between the last few rounds.
33:11He's aware of that shot.
33:13I think Bruno Saras is going to have to mix some of these punches up.
33:15He's going to have a chance to land.
33:17He added a right hand to the body there a moment ago.
33:21There's that right hand with Munguia pulling out.
33:24Again he just tapped him with a left two right before throwing that right.
33:30Saras the first French fighter to win Ring Magazine's Upside of the Year.
33:34Since Rene Jacot upset Donald Curry back in 1989.
33:39Upside of the Year winners tend to come in two flavors.
33:42They're either a guy like Rene Jacot or like a Willy Wise who upset Chavez Senior.
33:46And they have one big night.
33:49Or it's the breakthrough where they prove that they belong on the world level.
33:53And they go on to a fantastic career.
33:55I don't know.
33:56He needs to be one of my favorite fighters to watch and study.
34:00Excellent fighter.
34:03One thing is certain this is a totally different tenor for a Jaime Munguia fight than we've ever seen before Chris.
34:20And maybe some of it, a lot of it has to do with the fact that he got knocked out in his last fight.
34:27But I do think we're seeing the Eddie Reynoso influence on Jaime Munguia.
34:31He is fighting a lot more discipline.
34:33No disrespect to his previous trainers.
34:35Whether it was Eric Morales or Freddie Roach he kind of fought the same way.
34:38It was a lot of offense and very little defense.
34:40Here as you guys noted earlier the right hand is staying up.
34:43He's not putting himself in harm's way quite as often.
34:46A different type of fight.
34:47Yeah but not only that but you're training amongst greatness.
34:50You know training alongside Canelo.
34:52That actually makes you mentally strong.
34:55You learn just by watching as well.
34:58Good looping left from Munguia there a moment ago.
35:01Right hand over the top as well.
35:03We close in on the final ten seconds here of round seven.
35:08The offense from Saras slowing down a little bit here.
35:13He puts a couple more together at the end of the round.
35:19That was classic Jaime Munguia.
35:22That was a good one.
35:23Yes, hold it.
35:24Take it.
35:25Take it.
35:26Take it.
35:27Take it.
35:28Take it.
35:29Take it.
35:30Take it.
35:31Take it.
35:32Take it.
35:33Take it.
35:34Take it.
35:36This is how you gotta end close rounds.
35:38Flurry against the ropes.
35:40If your opponent's just gonna keep the guard up.
35:43You punch at the gloves.
35:45Shoeshine and steal the round, Sugar Ray Leonard style.
35:50That's exactly what you gotta do.
35:51to do. Credit to Saras for trying to open up there, but by opening up you're going to open up
35:57yourself to one of those punches that Munguia is trying to rip through the guard.
36:09AJ is in the house as well, Anthony Joshua.
36:15Flooded by fans as always, and there's Terence Crawford,
36:19obviously a keen observer here tonight, Chris. That is a man with a vested interest in the outcome of the main event.
36:27Saras launching that right hand, the opening five seconds of the round.
36:42Picking up a little bit of foot pressure here in the eighth round, a little bit of a different heat
36:46from Munguia as he reaches the body of Saras there with the left hook.
36:56Nice jab, right there. That's going to get you back
37:00into the rhythm that his corner wants him. Munguia needs rhythm. He needs to fight off a rhythm. Normally
37:05he's just on the front foot throwing caution to the wind. Now, if he sets up the power in his attack
37:10behind a smart jab, a shotgun jab, that's actually doing more benefit than throwing three reckless
37:16punches just to the body. That controls the distance, that controls your opponent, and it keeps your
37:22opponent getting hurt just by popping him right in the face.
37:26Munguia stays behind that newfound high-frame Canelo-esque defense.
37:35And perhaps, guys, thinking long-term for a fighter like Munguia, who's been in a lot of wars, even though
37:56he's not yet 30 years of age, he's endured a lot in the ring, and being a little bit more responsible like this may add years to his career.
38:05Well, when I watched him at 160 and above, you could see, even though he was in his mid-20s,
38:10there was a shelf life on fighting like that. Certainly fighting a more defensive-minded style,
38:16if you want to call that, this is definitely the longest career.
38:19Munguia just turned out a hard right hook to the body. I don't think Saras didn't like that right hand.
38:24I like Munguia keep going to that body, the right, the left side of Saras.
38:28Let it go! Let it go! Let it go! Let it go!
38:36You can take a little, take a page away from Canelo, when Canelo fought Caleb Clement, when he fought Helen Smith.
38:42You know, they were just banging at the shoulders and the bicep. Keep digging the world up there. Something's bound to open up.
38:49Saras starting to rally behind Munguia here. Yeah, I think the Mexicans have arrived.
39:00Saras coming up short with that right hand. You know, and as this body attack piles up Sergio,
39:06and as Saras starts to sell out a little more, hunching over to block those body shots,
39:11makes it harder for him to come out of that crouch and land that right hand.
39:14Yeah, not only that, but like I said, he's really a six to eight round fighter.
39:19You know, so this ninth, tenth, eleventh round, that's very foreign and unknown to him.
39:22Let's go!
39:23Let's go!
39:24Let's go!
39:25Let's go!
39:26Let's go!
39:27Let's go!
39:28Let's go!
39:29Let's go!
39:30Let's go!
39:31Let's go!
39:32Let's go!
39:33Let's go!
39:34Let's go!
39:35Let's go!
39:36Let's go!
39:37Let's go!
39:37Let's go!
39:39Let's go!
39:40Let's go!
39:41No, it's the ninth.
39:42No, we're not hitting the ninth.
39:43No, we're hitting the ninth, we have to win, so it does not be charoté.
39:46He's going to be 2 meters.
39:48X-0?
39:49The stamina, fine?
39:50No, what's that?
39:52Don't see!
39:53No, he's hitting the rope in his head.
39:53He's hitting the other, okay?
39:57No, he's playing on 9th, bro.
39:58No, he's playing on 8th.
39:59He's excellent.
40:01He's playing the ninth, exactly!
40:03Be sure, alert!
40:23Back to action here, Ami Munguia and Bruno Saras, the rematch.
40:27Their shocking December encounter in which Saras knocked Munguia out.
40:33Munguia trying to get his revenge here tonight.
40:36And also set the table for his brand new stablemate, Canelo Alvarez, in our main event.
40:43Good body shot there from Saras to start this round.
40:46They see my scorecard, 77 to 75 in favor of Miami Munguia.
40:50I think the last four rounds have gone in his favor.
40:54He stepped up the pressure, the activity has picked up as well.
40:57Saras just has not been able to land that consequential right hand.
41:01So, Jaime Munguia seizing the lead on my scorecard.
41:04Good left hand in the body there from Munguia.
41:09There you see the adjustments that Munguia has made.
41:11When he took the step out, the hands were high.
41:14He caught the right hand of Saras and just got out of the way of that one.
41:17Saras came with the left hook and the right hand behind it.
41:20And yeah, Munguia barely pulled back. Good body shot there by Munguia.
41:26You can tell Saras is very wary getting into the body.
41:28When he gets into that corner, he kind of goes into that shell to keep those arms over the midsection.
41:32Raha's hasn't quite found the rhythm that we saw him fall into in the early rounds
41:34Ross hasn't quite found the rhythm that we saw him fall into in the early rounds when
42:00he's having some success. Maybe the weight of those body shots, maybe the pounding that
42:07his arms have been taking as well, making him a little bit more weary here in the later
42:10rounds. Or maybe just he's facing a smarter, more prepared Jaime Mugui. Ross trying to step
42:17in with an uppercut there. We're inside the final minute of round nine. I'd like to see
42:22Saras try that again. That's a clever move, you know, jumping in with an uppercut like
42:26that.
42:45Dia doubling up on that left hook, that left hook up top connected. Big sweeping shot.
42:53He is starting to find a pattern here when he can work Saras back against the ropes. He
43:04can get the body work done, rinse and repeat. Saras did a pretty good job in the first half
43:08of this fight, escaping from those situations. The right hand over the top there from Saras
43:15who's grazing the head of Mugui. And that'll do it for round nine.
43:19Bolo, I'm not telling you, I'll tell you the truth. There's an opponent who
43:32gives us a win, an opponent who gives us a win, but it's a win. It's a win. It's a win.
43:36There's another one. One more big stick. No. One more. One more. One more. One more.
43:44hay que charlo patras esa cabron no sabe para at contour. Eso desesperado tira la pinche
43:47derecha weyh
43:49por eso no te duduma siempre estate bien atento cual manzos
44:05If you throw in the right hand, you got to step back.
44:07You got to step back and look for that uppercut.
44:09You lift him up with that uppercut.
44:12You got to stay alive, stay sharp.
44:14And you got to throw more jabs.
44:20Ground 10 underway.
44:22Jaime Munguia and Bruno Saras.
44:26The edict in the corner of Munguia
44:29continues to be safety and patience.
44:33And Saras just missed with that right hand once more.
44:38I think Saras got a little bit of respect back in that last round.
44:41That's why there was urgency in the corner of Munguia.
44:44Because you can't let this man just have two rounds back to back
44:48if he didn't win that last round.
44:50And there's that sneaky uppercut that Saras is trying to look for again.
44:53Yeah, a little bit off balance there.
44:55That right hand attempt of Saras.
45:03You know, Chris, you pointed out earlier the different attempts that trainers have made.
45:08You know, with Eric Morales who tried to turn Munguia a little bit more defensive.
45:12With Freddie Roach, with others.
45:14We are seeing a real adherence from Munguia to what Eddie Reynoso is telling him.
45:20And maybe you owe that to the fact that this is a guy who wrote an article for ESPN
45:24about how he looked up to Canelo, wanted to face him one day.
45:28There is a real belief and trust in what they're telling him.
45:31No question about that.
45:32And I'm also sure that the last fight was probably a really humbling one behind Munguia.
45:37It's one thing to lose to Canelo Alvarez at the highest level.
45:40It's another thing to get knocked out by Bruno Saras.
45:43So perhaps in the aftermath of a loss like that you're more open,
45:47more receptive to coaching than you would be in the past.
45:54Chopping shot there from Saras.
45:59Not only that, but Freddie Roach and Eric Morales are offensive trainers.
46:04Eddie Reynoso is a little bit of both.
46:09A responsible, defensive, offensive type trainer.
46:13Everything's a new school Mexican style of fighting.
46:19And I think that's exactly what Munguia needed.
46:21You know, he epitomizes the Mexican style, but that was the training.
46:26That was working against him the higher he got in competition.
46:29He needed to extend his shelf life and doing it with a jab and with that body movement.
46:33Good work there from Munguia.
46:35Quick combination.
46:36Left hook landing.
46:37So does that one.
46:38That one really sinks into the midsection of Bruno Saras.
46:41We can hear that one ringside.
46:43You can hear it and Saras dropped that right elbow down.
46:46You can see his right elbow now going lower and lower.
46:49He doesn't want to get hit to that body again.
46:50He might be hurt to the body.
46:52Right hand breaks through there from Munguia.
46:55Tries that downward arcing right hand.
46:58A little bit too much of a hammer fist, I think, for the official flanking there.
47:03As Saras tries to come back with the right hand, which for the last couple of rounds has really been the only idea that Saras has been able to muster.
47:11Oh, good shot.
47:12I think Saras is still hurt to the body.
47:14Every time Munguia lands out in that pan, it needs to buckle a little bit.
47:19Get some air.
47:20It's 11th round.
47:21Massage is nice.
47:22We got to win these last rounds and you won the early ones.
47:40You got to move your waist.
47:43Hands up.
47:44Block and I need you awake.
47:46Awake alert.
47:48I don't need you to bend your back forward.
47:52Don't wait.
47:53Don't bend over front forward.
47:55You got to side to side with your waist in combination and get out.
48:05He's tired already.
48:09Tight guard.
48:10You understand?
48:14Throw your combinations.
48:15Two and three punches.
48:16You understand?
48:18He's got it.
48:19He's got it.
48:20He's got it.
48:21Round 11.
48:22As that was going on in Munguia's corner, Saras' corner, is begging him to throw more than one punch.
48:28I think the problem is he's finding it difficult to find an opening in this new frame defense of Jaime Munguia, not really finding an opportunity there.
48:36He tries the double jab, but the right hand sails over top.
48:39You called it because that's exactly what we're doing.
48:41So every round they've been employing tight guard.
48:44Before any of the instructions start, it's tight guard and then he comes in with the punches.
48:49That's been the difference in this new year.
48:51Yeah, tight guard and body movement.
48:5350% of the landed punches by Jaime Munguia have been body shots.
48:59He has been very effective with the overall body shots.
49:03Tight guard and upper body movement, waist movement.
49:06He's a little bit more fluid with his upper body.
49:08Not as stiff.
49:09Not catching every shot with his gloves.
49:12One, two, one.
49:13That's right hand there for Munguia.
49:14These are nine catching shots too.
49:15Sergio, earlier in the fight we talked about Saras' difficulty sometimes moving to his left.
49:31And Munguia throwing that sweeping right hand caught him in the midst of one of those moments
49:37when the feet were crossing.
49:38Yeah, and it actually adds to the right hook that Munguia's throwing.
49:41Whenever you're turning your waist and your foot to that punch,
49:46it's actually doing your opponent a favor.
49:53Saras trying his own body shot.
49:55We haven't seen much of that from him in this fight,
49:57but Munguia comes back with a better one.
50:00Finding a little slot behind the right elbow of Saras there.
50:07You know, when you're throwing body shots to the right side of Bruno Saras,
50:10you're making him that much more hesitant to throw that right hand.
50:13He lets that right hand go.
50:14He exposed the one part of his body.
50:16He's not looking to get hit.
50:17Inside the final minute of round 11 here.
50:22Saras trying to be a little bit more assertive in this round.
50:38Assertive and creative.
50:39He keeps trying that left hook hook that we talked about two rounds ago.
50:42He hasn't given up on that punch.
50:44Good body shots there for Munguia.
50:47And that's the reason Reynoso didn't want Munguia to just bend down
50:50because Saras is looking for that uppercut.
50:53Side to side.
50:54Stay fluid.
50:55Move your waist.
50:56Final 10 seconds here in round 11 as Munguia rips another left hand
51:09to the body of Bruno Saras.
51:11One round to go here in the rematch.
51:16As these two run it back here in the rematch, a reminder that you can do the same thing
51:33with the new feature on the DAZN app using the fight card tab.
51:38You can click on that.
51:39You can go back and relive any round or any moment of tonight's event.
51:44We're gonna finish this round defensively and counter punching.
52:00You understand?
52:02You gotta move your waist and you gotta feint now.
52:05This is the last round.
52:07You gotta close this round.
52:11Close this round harder than you did in the last round.
52:14Wake up.
52:15Let's go.
52:16Last round.
52:18It's funny, Sergio.
52:19Round after round,
52:21Eddie Reynoso has been giving the same instructions,
52:24but it felt to me like trying to dissuade Jaime Munguia from his baser instincts,
52:30from going back to being the fighter that we've seen throughout his professional career.
52:33Even now in the 12th round, which in my opinion a fight he's comfortably ahead,
52:37they're talking defense first in that corner.
52:40Yeah, I was about to say we've seen final round heroics from Munguia in the past.
52:44He doesn't need them here tonight,
52:46but they're probably trying to suppress those urges to do something fantastic here.
52:50And that final round he had against Sergey Derevichenko, the fight of the year.
52:54That was brilliant.
52:55He pulled that fight out with a huge knockdown in the 12th.
52:58I don't believe he needs one in this fight.
53:00Munguia doesn't need to learn toughness or how to fight or how to throw punches.
53:04He needs to learn how to stay disciplined, follow a game plan to the end,
53:08move his upper body and keep his defense tight.
53:11That's the reason round by round they keep reminding him.
53:14The referee warning Jaime Munguia for the body shot.
53:17I repeat, the trunks of Bruno Saras are as high as they could possibly get above the belly button there.
53:23Forget the belly button, they're closer to his nipples.
53:26Please don't say nipples.
53:37Got a right hand over the top there from Munguia.
53:39His right hand got there first.
53:41Saras thinking about it as well.
53:43Now Munguia backs him up once more.
53:46Double left hook there from Munguia.
54:01Even in that moment there, in previous rounds Munguia probably would have opened up a little bit more.
54:07He's listening to Eddie Reynoso there.
54:09Just two shots, stepped out, got out of danger as he comes back with a nice right hand again.
54:14It appears that Eddie Reynoso is one of the few trainers that can teach an old dog new tricks.
54:29Because Munguia, this is what I needed to see from Munguia.
54:33I thought he was just a stubborn fighter, a former champion that can't change his ways.
54:38This is a big difference that I'm seeing.
54:41And normal term, Sergio, he's not really an old dog at 28 years of age, but he's like a great Dane.
54:50He's aged quickly.
54:51Well, with 46 fights, maybe in dog years he's old.
54:54He has.
54:55I think the question now is, as the clock ticks down this fight,
54:59is Jaime Munguia now back on that level that he was after the Eric Gazinian fight?
55:05And the level I'm talking about is ready for an Edgar Berlanga, ready for a Caleb Grant.
55:11He is an incredibly marketable fighter with a big fan base who could do crowds in Vegas and Southern California.
55:17Haven't seen him, Sergio, return to that level.
55:19With this performance, 100%, absolutely Munguia is ready for any of those names.
55:24And that will do it as Jaime Munguia vanquished the demons that have haunted him for six months.
55:39According to Chris Mannix's scorecard, we believe that is the case, but on the other side of this fight,
55:45again, you go back to what people were thinking and saying about Bruno Saras before the knockout victory.
55:52He might not have won this fight, Sergio, but I think he earned some respect.
55:56He got my respect.
55:57And I think I did my job praising what he was trying to do.
56:02He won some rounds.
56:03I gave him four rounds out of the 12.
56:05He was competitive.
56:06Munguia had to respect his counter shots.
56:08Anytime he got hit with anything big, he came right back.
56:11He showed guts.
56:13This was an excellent performance that maybe he didn't win, but he's going to learn from on the championship level.
56:19Because this is a former champion that he's facing.
56:21A big former champion, Saras handled him well.
56:24Jesse Bam Rodriguez returns to action on July 19th when the WBC World Super Flyweight champ looks to unify the division.
56:38As he takes on the undefeated WBO belt holder, Fulamela Cafu in Frisco, Texas, live here on DAZN.
56:54Let's take a look at the CompuBox punch stats.
56:57You see Jaime Munguia out throwing and out landing Bruno Saras in this one.
57:03And you see the power shots to the body.
57:05Again, you kept pointing that out throughout the night.
57:0845-9 for Jaime Munguia and to the judges.
57:11A lot of those sequences with Saras on the ropes, just absorbing shots, those stick in their minds.
57:17Yeah, look, those 45 punches that he was landing, they weren't all clean shots to the belly or the liver.
57:23They were being caught by the forearm and the elbow, but that wasn't enough.
57:27They're still doing damage.
57:28That's the beauty of body shots.
57:30They don't have to land cleanly to have damage.
57:32And thankfully, these judges recognize that.
57:37All right, we are ready to make this one official.
57:40So let's set it back up to our MC, Mr. Thomas Schreiber.
57:47Ladies and gentlemen, after 12 rounds of boxing, we go to the judges' scorecards.
57:57Judge Kieran McCann scores it 116-112.
58:01And both judges, Ron McNair and Howard Foster, are in agreement.
58:06They both scored the same, 117-111.
58:10All in favor of your winner by unanimous decision.
58:15Jaime Munguia!
58:22So Jaime Munguia gets his revenge.
58:27A unanimous decision victory over Bruno Saras.
58:31A new look Jaime Munguia remains composed and patient.
58:37And he gets his win back after fighting those demons since December.
58:43It's got to feel good for Jaime Munguia tonight.
58:47XOVI MUNGUIA
58:50You
