India is set to conduct nationwide mock civil defence drills across 244 districts, including high-threat areas like Delhi and Mumbai, as well as other major cities such as Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. The drills will feature air raid sirens, blackout measures, and training for civilian self-protection. The Ministry of Home Affairs has categorized districts based on threat perception to enhance civil defence readiness. Former DG of Civil Defence Kiran Bedi highlights the importance of these drills in uniting the country and building mental preparedness. Additionally, the Indian Air Force will conduct a large air exercise along the southern border with Pakistan on May 7-8. The program also advises citizens on essential items to keep at home in case of emergencies.

00:47I know there are a lot of WhatsApp forwards,
00:49social media messages that you're getting.
00:52We're here to clear the air on all of that.
00:54I'm Akshita Nandakopal.

02:38So brace yourself for the mock drill tomorrow across the country
02:56as civil defence volunteers will be rehearsing their readiness
02:59in case of any emergency or war-like situation.
03:04Before we kick off our one-hour broadcast on the mock drills,
03:06I'd like to reiterate that this is a mock drill.
03:09I'm stressing on that to reiterate that there's absolutely no reason
03:13to jump to conclusions or to panic.
03:15It's a rehearsal to ensure we're fully prepared for any eventuality.
03:20So let's get right down to it now.
03:21Here's what the drill will look like.
03:23You see it on your screens.
03:24We've seen rehearsals for the drill with civil defence volunteers
03:27who get down on the ground when air raid sirens go off.
03:31They also rehearse what is to be done if someone faints,
03:34if someone's injured, how to help them, how to carry them
03:37and ensure maximum assistance.
03:39All of these people on your screens are civil defence volunteers.
03:43Essentially, the idea is to check the training of these volunteers
03:46and of all the resources available, whether we're fully prepared.
03:51It's a check, a rehearsal that we're seeing.
03:53So where will these drills take place?
03:56There are 244 districts that essentially have been identified
04:01and we'll break down for you the categories based on the level of alertness,
04:04based on the sensitivity and security preparedness.
04:07We will be seeing this massive security and of security preparedness.
04:13It will be happening in cities from north to south, east to west.
04:15And we'll be seeing these drills taking place in Delhi, Mumbai.
04:19You're going to be seeing it in all of the metro cities
04:21and also cities that are bordering Pakistan.
04:25So Amritsar falls in that list.
04:26Chandigarh, Chennai metro city in the south, we'll see drills there too.
04:31In Jaipur, Hyderabad, you know, Bengaluru, Kolkata,
04:34all of them will see drills.
04:36I'm listing out a few of those.
04:38Lakna, Surat, Vadodra.
04:39Remember that off this list of drills,
04:41there are some cities that have been identified as Category 1,
04:44which I'll explain in just a bit.
04:46But before that, it's not just cities.
04:48We will also be seeing these mock drills taking place at nuclear sites,
04:52ports across the country.
04:53Here are the ones that have been identified as most sensitive.
04:56As far as nuclear plants go,
04:58there is in fact an Akrapura in Gujarat.
05:00There's also the Uran port in Maharashtra.
05:04That's a seaport.
05:05You have the Kalpakkam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu
05:08where again there will be a drill.
05:10There's Rawat Bhatta in Rajasthan,
05:12another nuclear power plant
05:13where there's going to be a mock drill.
05:15Tarapura in Maharashtra,
05:16a nuclear power plant.
05:18And then you have Talchere in Odisha,
05:20which is a mega power plant.
05:22This is where you're going to be seeing the drill.
05:24So these are the installations,
05:26the sensitive installations,
05:28vital installations to the country,
05:30where again they're going to be checking
05:31all of the protocol that's put in place.
05:34Obviously a lot more exaggerated,
05:36a lot more elaborate in these areas,
05:38which are obviously sensitive installations.
05:41Let's take a look at our next report first.
05:44These are ground reports by our reporters
05:46who've been out in different parts of the country.
05:48In some places we've already been seeing rehearsals
05:51of civil defence volunteers coming together.
05:53Here's a look at that.
05:54As India-Pakistan tensions escalate,
06:05India is getting war ready.
06:07And it's not just the military.
06:10The Indian government is preparing civilians too.
06:13The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed
06:19all states and union territories
06:21to conduct civil defence exercises
06:24across 244 districts on May 7th.
06:29These 244 districts have been identified
06:33as vulnerable to various threats.
06:37These districts have been divided
06:38into three categories based on Fed perception.
06:43The drills will include
06:45the activation of air raid warning sirens,
06:48will test blackout measures in key areas,
06:52including residential sites.
06:54The primary objective of the exercise
06:56is to test and strengthen
06:58the civil defence system
07:00in the event of hostile attacks.
07:02Metro cities have already started
07:06preparing civilians
07:07for emergency situations.
07:10And that's the siren.
07:12That's the alert by the civil defence.
07:14You can clearly see the voice
07:15which is coming out.
07:20Okay, that's the voice.
07:21That's the voice coming from the siren.
07:23That's the voice coming from the siren.
07:25As you can see, the speed,
07:26the volume is increasing.
07:28The volume, as far the volume is increasing,
07:30the people are getting led.
07:31Now there's picture number two out here
07:33where you can see a lot of
07:34civil defence people
07:36and also the normal,
07:38the normal, normal citizens out here.
07:40They all are here
07:41lying down,
07:43closing their ears.
07:44You can clearly get the sense
07:45the camera man got off
07:46showing you the visuals from here.
07:48The pictures,
07:48the exclusive pictures
07:49from Ground Zero
07:51or India TV is showing
07:52the atmosphere out here.
07:54And I must mention here
07:55that this is just the rehearsal.
07:58The mock drill
07:59is going to be more and more serious
08:02because currently
08:03the civil defence people
08:05are being trained
08:06at Ground Zero
08:07to protect themselves
08:09from any air attack
08:10coming from Pakistan.
08:12Right now,
08:13I'm on the Dal Lake
08:14and as you can see,
08:15the SDRF is doing a mock drill
08:17where different scenarios
08:18are being seen
08:19and the effort is to
08:21send this message
08:23across to the people
08:23that they need to be prepared.
08:25Now, as you can see,
08:26this is a drill
08:27where Shikara has capsized
08:29and people are in water.
08:31So this is,
08:32they're showing how
08:33those people need to be saved.
08:35Now, while the NDRF,
08:37the SDRF have the equipment,
08:38but they're even showing
08:39how people in their homes
08:41using whatever is available,
08:42they can use that
08:44to save lives.
08:45This nationwide mobilisation
08:49brings back memories
08:50of full-scale wars
08:52with China in 1962
08:54and with Pakistan
08:55in 1965 and 71.
08:59With Samarth Srivastav,
09:01Meir Fareed
09:02and Vinay,
09:03Bureau Report,
09:04India Today.
09:09So why exactly
09:10do these drills matter?
09:12We've been listing out for you
09:13five measures
09:14that the MHA
09:14has repeatedly been talking about.
09:16Let me highlight
09:17each of these measures
09:18and why it's being done.
09:19First, air raid sirens.
09:21Why does that matter?
09:22It's been the operationalisation
09:24of air raid sirens
09:26is something
09:26that's being spoken of.
09:28It's one of the primary drills
09:30that is going to be
09:31conducted tomorrow.
09:33Why is this important?
09:34Because citizens should know
09:35what sound to watch out for,
09:37to listen for,
09:38and then know
09:39what that sound
09:40instructs them to do.
09:41So that's why
09:42you will be seeing
09:43the operationalisation
09:44of these sounds
09:44being checked.
09:46Second,
09:46training of civilians
09:47for self-protection.
09:49Here's where also
09:50volunteers play a big,
09:51big role
09:51because they're already trained.
09:53Citizens don't panic
09:54during an emergency.
09:55Instead,
09:56know the exact protocol
09:57to follow
09:57and what needs to be done.
09:59Extremely crucial this,
10:00which is why
10:00you're seeing
10:01the self-protection step
10:02also being taken.
10:04Blackout measures,
10:04provision for blackout measures.
10:07Now,
10:07why is this done?
10:08Well,
10:08citizens should ensure
10:09they switch off the lights
10:10as soon as they're given
10:11the directive of blackout
10:12because jets are flying by.
10:15Ensuring that
10:15civilian areas,
10:17establishments
10:17are fully blacked out,
10:19very, very important
10:20in an emergency
10:21or wartime situation.
10:23Now,
10:23camouflaging
10:24of vital installations.
10:25I listed out for you
10:26nuclear plants,
10:27boats, etc.
10:28that are already
10:29part of the mock drill.
10:31Nuclear setups,
10:32boats should not be targeted.
10:34So there's already
10:34a plan to camouflage them,
10:36to hide them.
10:37This will be tested tomorrow.
10:39Updating of the evacuation plan
10:42to ensure you and I
10:43know where to go.
10:44Citizens are aware
10:45which are the safe zones
10:46that they should go to
10:47in case of an emergency.
10:49Evacuation routes
10:50and safety points.
10:51All of that
10:52is something
10:53citizens should know of.
10:54So that's another key point
10:55of really what
10:56the MHA will do.
10:59I want to now
10:59take you across
11:00to this table
11:01that we have set up for you.
11:03This is essentially
11:03a set up
11:05of all the essentials
11:06that you need to have.
11:07I know
11:07that there are
11:08a whole lot
11:09of videos,
11:11messages,
11:11pictures
11:12on social media
11:13that are doing
11:14the rounds
11:14of what you should
11:15have in your residence.
11:16So we thought
11:16we'd break it down
11:17for you.
11:18Now we've taken this
11:19from advisories
11:20given by the government
11:21which is why
11:21this is
11:22your one stop
11:23tracking destination
11:24of what you need
11:25in your residence.
11:27Let's begin
11:27with the basics.
11:28You need a torch light.
11:29This is also
11:30an emergency light.
11:31But in case
11:31you have a torch
11:32with you
11:33ensure you have
11:34enough batteries.
11:35Stock up on them.
11:36have spare batteries
11:37as well
11:37like I've had here.
11:38I've kept a handful
11:39of batteries with me.
11:40Now ensure also
11:41a first aid kit.
11:43This is basic
11:43and I'm sure
11:44a lot of you
11:44may already have it.
11:45You keep a first aid kit
11:47with you
11:47in your residence
11:48and inside the first aid kit
11:50ensure there are
11:51enough number of bandages.
11:52Also ensure
11:53this is disinfectant.
11:54Like I said
11:55this is for emergency
11:55situations.
11:57Obviously
11:57you ensure that you
11:58stock up on water.
12:00You stock up on water
12:02and ensure you have
12:02enough bottles of that
12:03for you
12:04and your loved ones
12:04to last a certain
12:06amount of time
12:07so that you
12:07minimize how much time
12:09you really step out for.
12:10Now besides that
12:11we've also ensured
12:12that besides torches
12:13you also keep candles
12:15and match boxes
12:16with you.
12:17Now this
12:17is in case
12:18of complete blackouts.
12:20Remember
12:20that even if you
12:21have an emergency lamp
12:22power goes out
12:24you can't recharge this.
12:25Your batteries run out.
12:26What do you turn to?
12:27You turn to candles
12:28which is why
12:28it's important
12:28to have these.
12:30I'll continue getting you
12:30what else we have here.
12:32We've got a number
12:32of perishables as well
12:34but essentials
12:34at the same time.
12:35You've got rice
12:36you've got wheat flour
12:38we've got also
12:39you know a lot of
12:40dals and the likes
12:41which last
12:41which don't perish
12:43immediately.
12:44So you've got sugar
12:45you've got milk powder
12:46as well
12:47because getting milk
12:48will be a problem
12:49at such a time
12:50also because you won't
12:51have enough stock
12:53of it in stores
12:54you don't have to
12:54repeatedly step out
12:55milk powder is the way
12:56to go.
12:57We also ensured
12:58based on advisories
12:59that you keep dry fruits
13:00etc. with you
13:01because again
13:02these are easy
13:04to store
13:04you can keep them
13:05in large quantities
13:06in your residence
13:08so all of these
13:08non-perishables
13:09is what you keep
13:11in your house
13:11so that you don't
13:12run out of stock
13:13you're not in a panic
13:14and you don't have
13:14to step out unnecessarily.
13:16A couple of more
13:16aspects that I'd like
13:17to show you here
13:18now we spoke of
13:19blackout measures
13:20what do we mean by that?
13:21Well essentially
13:22you switch off the lights
13:23in your home
13:24but also a cloth
13:26a blackout curtain
13:27so when you have
13:28a black cloth like this
13:29you can put it up
13:30pin it up on your windows
13:31and ensure
13:32that it's complete
13:33darkness all around
13:34that there's no light
13:35going out of your home
13:36in case you don't
13:37have a cloth
13:38use a cardboard
13:39use this to cover
13:41your windows as well
13:42so this is essentially
13:44a list of items
13:45that you should have
13:45I'll run you through it
13:46again
13:47a first aid kit
13:48bottles of water
13:49you've got a torch
13:50you've got batteries
13:51candles
13:52non-perishables
13:53you've got rice
13:54arta
13:55dal
13:56all of that
13:56you've got dry fruits
13:58black cloth
13:59that could act
14:00as essentially
14:01a blackout curtain
14:02or a cardboard box
14:03whichever you prefer
14:04to use
14:05this is what you need
14:07in your home
14:08we've broken it down
14:09for you
14:10as elaborately
14:11as we can
14:11besides this
14:12ensure you have
14:13a go-to bag
14:14what do I mean by that?
14:15all of these essentials
14:16and a bit more
14:17like your documents
14:18etc
14:18cash
14:19keep it in a bag
14:20a getaway bag
14:21a go-to bag
14:22that you can
14:22immediately strap on
14:23if you need to
14:24step out of your home
14:25these are mind you
14:26emergency steps
14:27that you need to take
14:28only if the necessity arises
14:30what we're breaking down
14:31for you
14:32is essentially
14:33to ensure you don't
14:34fall for all of the
14:35posts being put up
14:36on social media
14:37which talks about
14:38a long list
14:38of what you need
14:39to stock up
14:39and also remember
14:40stockpiling right now
14:42will lead to shortage
14:43chaos on the ground
14:44so this is a list
14:45of the basics
14:46that you can keep
14:47in your home
14:48to ensure you're
14:48fully prepared
14:49and with this
14:50I can assure you
14:50this is based on
14:51advisories from
14:52the government
14:52so I can assure you
14:53that this is what
14:55you exactly need
14:56in your home
14:57I want to take this
14:58across to our reporters
14:59because even as we
15:00talk about really
15:01what citizens can do
15:02let's put the focus
15:03again on those
15:04mock drills
15:05and joining us now
15:06we've got a battery
15:07of reporters spread
15:07across the country
15:08Aishwarya Paliwal
15:09live from Delhi
15:10Divyeesh Singh
15:11from Mumbai
15:12Sagai Raj
15:12from Bengaluru
15:13Pramod Madha
15:14from Chennai
15:14Surya Gneroy
15:15joining us live
15:16from Kolkata
15:17and finally
15:17Abdul Bashir
15:18from Hyderabad
15:19let's begin with
15:20the national capital
15:21with Delhi
15:21obviously sensitive
15:22because of its location
15:24because of it being
15:24the national capital
15:25this falls in
15:26category one
15:27what do I mean
15:28by category one
15:29it means the highest
15:30level of threat
15:31so as part of
15:33the list that's been
15:34given by the MHA
15:35Delhi
15:35which clearly mentions
15:37including Delhi
15:37cantonment
15:38is mentioned
15:39as high threat
15:40so you'll see
15:40maximum drills
15:41happening here
15:42as expected
15:43let me bring in
15:44Aishwarya Paliwal
15:45for details really
15:46on what to expect
15:47in the national capital
15:48Aishwarya
15:48there will be a
15:49spotlight on Delhi
15:51it's your power
15:52citadel of sorts
15:53of the country
15:54which is why
15:55it is in category one
15:56of high threat
15:57what really are we
15:59looking at tomorrow
16:00when these mock drills
16:01happen Aishwarya
16:01we've been hearing
16:02of some suggestions
16:03that these civil
16:04defence volunteers
16:05are also making
16:06people aware
16:07of rushing into
16:08metro stations
16:09which act as
16:09bunkers
16:10well definitely
16:15you know Akshita
16:15number one
16:16is the national
16:17capital
16:17and not just
16:18from today
16:18since the day
16:19the attack
16:19took place
16:20the unfortunate
16:20the dastardly
16:21terror attack
16:22in Pergam
16:23we have seen
16:23how the national
16:24capital
16:24has been in
16:25the spotlight
16:26and also because
16:26you have everyone
16:28staying here
16:28I'm standing right
16:29outside Prime Minister's
16:30residence
16:30so all the
16:31important houses
16:32all the important
16:33ministers
16:33everyone is in
16:34the national
16:35capital
16:35which is why
16:36the spotlight
16:37is on this
16:38place
16:38we will be
16:39telling
16:39the government
16:40now wants to
16:40make sure
16:41that every
16:41citizen
16:42understands
16:42what needs
16:43to be done
16:43and especially
16:44in the national
16:44capital
16:45as bunkers
16:46as you rightly
16:46pointed out
16:47the metro
16:47stations can
16:48double up
16:49as bunkers
16:49what you need
16:50to do
16:50what you need
16:51to look out
16:51for
16:52that is something
16:52that we will
16:53see the volunteers
16:54telling people
16:55a couple of the
16:56regions let me
16:57tell you
16:57in the national
16:58capital
16:58CP which is known
16:59as the heart
17:00of the national
17:00capital cannot
17:01place as one
17:01of the areas
17:02where we will
17:02see a large
17:03number of
17:04volunteers out
17:04there the police
17:05personnel will be
17:06out there
17:07South Delhi that
17:08is also one of
17:08the areas where
17:09we will see
17:10large number of
17:10people out there
17:12on the streets
17:13telling citizens
17:13what to do
17:14the entire
17:15Lutian zone
17:16that's the place
17:16where we have
17:17all the ministers
17:17saying that's
17:18also the area
17:19that will be
17:19high focus
17:20tomorrow
17:20so what needs
17:21to be done
17:22what you need
17:22to look out
17:23for and just
17:23in case you
17:24think something
17:24is not right
17:25what you need
17:26to do
17:26all that
17:27preparedness
17:27we'll see
17:28happening in
17:28the national
17:28capital
17:29across the
17:30national capital
17:30throughout the
17:31day tomorrow
17:31I also want
17:33to get in an
17:33update now
17:34from Mumbai
17:35residents of
17:36Mumbai
17:36Mumbai cars
17:37tomorrow you
17:38are going to
17:38be seeing a
17:39mock drill
17:39happening in
17:40your city
17:41as well
17:41let me just
17:42put out the
17:42details really
17:43of what the
17:43MHA has to
17:44say about
17:45Mumbai
17:45does it
17:45fall in
17:46category one
17:46does it
17:47fall in
17:47category two
17:48category one
17:49high threat
17:49because obviously
17:51Mumbai has
17:52seen terror attacks
17:53has been in
17:54fact the
17:54target of
17:55terrorists
17:55previously
17:56Mumbai also
17:57is one of
17:58those high
17:59threat areas
18:00cities which
18:01will see
18:01elaborate mock
18:03drills happening
18:03tomorrow and
18:04Divyesh is
18:04joining us with
18:05more details on
18:06that Divyesh we've
18:07been seeing a
18:08number of
18:08reporters by you
18:09and your
18:09colleagues about
18:10the kind of
18:11preparations on
18:11ground for
18:12tomorrow's mock
18:13drill we
18:13understand several
18:14sensitive sites
18:15have been
18:16identified by
18:17officials which
18:17is where these
18:18drills will
18:18happen
18:19well Akshita
18:24Mumbai is the
18:25financial capital
18:26and there are
18:27number of key
18:27installations in
18:29Mumbai in the
18:30city of Mumbai
18:31they are scattered
18:32in south Mumbai
18:33north Mumbai
18:34eastern Mumbai
18:34and western Mumbai
18:35there are number
18:36of key locations
18:37there are defense
18:38installations
18:38there are important
18:41government offices
18:42government headquarters
18:43located in Mumbai
18:45and that is why
18:46it has been put
18:46into the category one
18:48now this mock
18:49drill that is going
18:50to happen will
18:51hear air raid
18:52sirens at around
18:5450 to 60
18:55locations which
18:56have been installed
18:57at 50 to 60
18:58locations across
18:59Mumbai
19:00these air raid
19:02sirens will go
19:02on and these
19:05will alert the
19:06civil defense
19:07volunteers there
19:08are thousands of
19:08civil defense
19:09volunteers and
19:10this mock
19:11drill when we
19:12spoke to the
19:12director of civil
19:13defense this
19:14morning he said
19:15that this mock
19:15drill is being
19:16conducted to
19:17check the
19:18preparedness or
19:19to evaluate the
19:20preparedness of
19:22civil defense
19:22volunteers these
19:23civil defense
19:24volunteers who
19:25are trained to
19:26perform their
19:27duties or to
19:28help citizens
19:29during war like
19:30situation during
19:31war time their
19:33preparedness will
19:34be checked and
19:35their expertise
19:35will help citizens
19:37to help each
19:40other to help
19:41various other
19:42persons to take
19:43them to safety in
19:44case of a war
19:45like situation in
19:47case of an
19:47emergency and
19:48to see that
19:49there are no
19:50casualties there
19:51are no injuries
19:51you know you
19:52see essentially
19:53contingency plans
19:54being put in
19:54place across
19:55let me take this
19:57across all right
19:58Divyesh getting us
19:59that update from
19:59Mumbai let me
20:00bring in Sagai
20:00Raj from Bengaluru
20:02right now
20:02Sagai interestingly
20:03when you look at
20:04Bengaluru you know
20:06it's Bengaluru
20:06urban and
20:07Malayswaram that have
20:08been identified as
20:09areas where you're
20:10going to be seeing
20:10these drills but
20:12Bengaluru itself
20:13falling under
20:13category two which
20:14is moderate threat
20:15not high threat city
20:17but moderate threat
20:18and in Bengaluru
20:19Bengaluru urban and
20:20Malayswaram particularly
20:21have been mentioned
20:22Sagai
20:23absolutely these are
20:28the places which
20:29have been mentioned
20:29by the whole
20:30ministry and the
20:31government of
20:32Farnataka have
20:32taken serious
20:34cognizance of it
20:35and now as we
20:36speak there is a
20:37meeting which is
20:37happening here at
20:39the five force and
20:40you can see that the
20:41arrangement is made
20:42here in this particular
20:43ground in five force
20:45head office here in
20:47Bengaluru where the
20:49civil defense home
20:50guard five force
20:51personnel as well as
20:52a few people from
20:55health department will
20:56be participating in
20:58this mock drill where
20:59the stretchers helmets
21:01safety jackets and
21:03first aids will be
21:04given to them the
21:05training will be given
21:06to them how they have
21:07to take care of the
21:09people during the
21:09emergency service and
21:10there will be a mock
21:11drill which will be
21:12conducted to ensure
21:13that they take all
21:14kind of security
21:15measures if there is
21:16case of any kind of
21:17emergency they will
21:18also alert them what
21:20are the signs and
21:20what all the sirens that
21:21they will listen when
21:23there is any kind of
21:24emergency situation in
21:25the city.
21:25okay Sagai thanks for that
21:28update I'll request you
21:29Sagai and all of our
21:30other reporters to stay
21:31on with us before I
21:31bring in Pramod Suryagni
21:33and Abdul Bashir I'd
21:34like to bring in on this
21:36broadcast Kiran Bedi
21:37former Delhi top cop but
21:39importantly the reason we
21:40have Kiran Bedi with us
21:43is because she's also
21:43served as the DG of
21:45civil defense thank you
21:46ma'am for taking the
21:47time out and joining us
21:48here on India today I
21:49think your words or what
21:50you tell us really about
21:51this drill will be so
21:52crucial for all of our
21:53viewers who are watching
21:55right now can you just
21:56break down for us first
21:58ma'am the importance of
21:59having this kind of a
22:00drill and the role that
22:02civil defense volunteers
22:03actually play in such a
22:04circumstance of an
22:05emergency.
22:07Look drill is a practice
22:09and a rehearsal drill
22:10actually enables you to
22:12flex your muscles and
22:14then get over the
22:15hesitation that's what a
22:16drill is meant for it is
22:17a practice it's like a
22:19playing a game you
22:20practice and then you
22:21know I can hit the
22:22stone similarly
22:23in civil defense there's
22:25a drill drill of rescue
22:26drill of first aid drill
22:28of firefighting right
22:29drill of saving your
22:31body as all this saving
22:33each other a client
22:35bringing a person in
22:36distress from the top to
22:37the bottom having a net
22:39below to upa se jump
22:40kare it comes he comes
22:41on the net where is your
22:43equipment so I think
22:44teamwork teamwork it's all
22:46about discipline and also
22:48practice so these rehearsals
22:50are now building your
22:52confidence saying in a
22:54situation like this crisis
22:55I can respond but
22:57something you not
22:58rehearse doesn't matter
22:59but your mindset your
23:01mindset is out there to
23:03take the risk you become
23:04more courageous and you
23:06know your capability and
23:07you also know your team
23:08members see so when you
23:10know your team members and
23:11you can work together that
23:12is what a drill is meant
23:13for that's why you do
23:15drill in platoons you drill
23:17companies because you all
23:18march together this is what
23:20rehearsal is all about
23:21where you work together as
23:23citizens as strangers
23:24sometimes as friends and
23:26sometimes strangers so I
23:28think therefore such drills
23:29for such emergencies are
23:32very valuable because then
23:33you know I can do it and I
23:35can do more
23:35very important message but
23:38ma'am also explain this to
23:40us in a mock drill like the
23:42one that's going to be
23:42conducted tomorrow you know
23:44this is for civil defense
23:45volunteers to check their
23:46training to check our
23:47resources how important is
23:49the role of an ordinary
23:51citizen a civilian in these
23:52kind of drills well the
23:55ordinary citizen will not be
23:57alone they will have police
23:58with them firefighters with
24:00them disaster management with
24:01them civil defense trained
24:02volunteers with them they'll
24:04have home guards with them
24:05all they have to do is join
24:06them join with each other at
24:08the moment it's about
24:09teamwork but but if you know
24:11if you have a doctor close by
24:13you know first hand learn
24:14first hand but basically
24:15listen to the law listen to
24:17government instructions and
24:19once the instruction is
24:20blackout or everybody does a
24:22blackout nobody switches on
24:24any light doesn't even have a
24:25candle and all if you have a
24:27red uptar you go underground
24:29you if you've got a trench or
24:31you go under some level so
24:33that if something falls on you
24:34your vital parts of the body are
24:36protected so I think you listen
24:39to instructions and I would also
24:40say keep your radios available
24:42because sometimes the internet
24:43connections will go in the in the
24:45power will go so therefore your
24:47radio will work because radio
24:48will work with the because of the
24:50battery so I think radio would be a
24:53good form of communication to be
24:54kept with as because your iPhone
24:57will not get catch the radio
24:58because it will be on internet and
25:00not internet so I would think at
25:02such in such situation radios are
25:04very valuable instruments but it
25:07teaches you the simulations will now
25:10come gradually you'll see over the
25:12days this or tomorrow is the drill
25:14but it's uniting the country it's
25:17making us aware it's alerting us and
25:19it is also telling us the risk
25:20involved today the risk the entire
25:23country is at risk with the kind of
25:25new technology anybody anything can
25:28reach in any part of India so no part
25:30of the country safe so but there the
25:33fact that if we have rehearsed it we
25:35are mentally prepared to help each
25:37other to be supporting each other and
25:39not be selfish and not be greedy I
25:42think it will work that is the message
25:43that India is united and this
25:45rehearsal is actually going to unite us
25:47so you know with this drill scheduled
25:50for tomorrow ma'am there have been a
25:51number of questions that citizens have
25:53been putting out and we kind of scan
25:55through social media to pick up a few
25:57of these questions we thought it would
25:58be useful for our viewers if we ask them
26:00of you and if you could tell them what
26:01really needs to be done in different
26:03circumstances one of the questions
26:04that's frequently asked is should I
26:06stock up on food and essentials right
26:09now what do you think ma'am no no not
26:11at all that's not the need at all when
26:13there's a need I'm sure the government
26:15will alert you I don't think you should
26:17do this at all okay secondly ma'am what
26:21should I do if an air siren goes off you
26:24know these sounds are part of the drills
26:25I think a lot of people are wondering
26:26when this kind of a siren is heard or if
26:29you know this siren goes off what do we
26:31do I move somewhere else do I stay put
26:33no if you have any safe shelter place
26:36go under some safe shelter come under
26:39some safe shelter if there's an
26:42underground if there's a basement in the
26:44building go into the basement or if you
26:47have a parking or a shelter close by go
26:50under some shelter so come under some
26:52shelter and you know that's the next
26:55question that's repeatedly asked by
26:57viewers by people on social media in the
27:00absence of bunkers India of course
27:01doesn't have bunkers what do you define
27:03ma'am as a safe zone for people as I said
27:07basements are are bunkers basement is
27:09almost like a bunker because it's
27:11protected if it's high-rise but if there
27:14is a any any outhouse which is brick and
27:17water which is it is like a bunker it's
27:19safe it's safer rather than the open
27:21ground but if there's nothing just lie on
27:23the ground flat flat and so that you can
27:27you can something skims over rather than
27:29you getting hit but but that's it that's
27:32a maximum you can do in such a situation
27:34we are vulnerable but look for a safe
27:37protected area which has brick and water
27:40if possible okay the other question that
27:43you know we've found often asked is about
27:46the blackout measures and the question
27:49viewers constantly ask is do I need to
27:50seal my windows during a blackout what do
27:54you think ma'am not seal but cover your
27:56windows with black but switch off all
27:58your lights even a candle should not be
28:01seen because even that will be visible
28:02from the top that can be detected so try
28:05and seal your not seal but cover all your
28:09glasses with with black black paper
28:11black black paper I'm guessing cardboard
28:15blackout curtains any of that works
28:16that's right anything which which darkens it
28:19but try and minimize the right go into the
28:22basement if you really need to see something
28:24so that it's not visible from the top
28:26okay let's let's pull out our next yeah
28:29sure okay let's pull out our next FAQ I
28:31think this has come largely from our urban
28:33audiences who ask am I at a greater risk
28:36because I live in a metro city if I live in
28:38Delhi ma'am does it mean I'm at a greater
28:40risk does it mean I should move out to a
28:41smaller town
28:42I think once if if the things worsen then
28:49there is nothing called safe zone if things
28:52worsen there's nothing called safe zone we
28:54are all at risk and everybody's at risk so is
28:57the enemy at risk so are we at risk humanity's
29:00at risk if such a war happens in the kind of
29:04technology we have today I think I've got
29:06knows who is who who is not at risk in one
29:10form or the other that is why the whole
29:12world is a suggesting caution but but the
29:15point is we have to be prepared because
29:17we've been threatened to such a brutal way
29:20it's twittering but what if we go to a war
29:23that I am not sure who is not at risk
29:26everybody's at risk
29:27okay I think that's what you've done is
29:31essentially cleared the air for so many of
29:33our viewers on questions that they've been
29:35asking but importantly and my final
29:37question to you ma'am is also you know
29:39with these drills happening there's a lot
29:41of alarm that you know this means war
29:43this means that there is going to be an
29:45emergency that hits us can you just
29:46break down for us about how these kind of
29:49mock drills perhaps are routine or perhaps
29:50just following protocol right now
29:52mock drills are preparation mental
29:55preparation to bring us together to not
29:58be taken by surprise and government is
30:01performing its duty to to alert us train
30:04us prepare us unite us and also mentally
30:08make us more confident because when you
30:10rehearse you know I can do it but if if
30:14things go back to worse go to bad they'll
30:18have to be you will have to go into more
30:20simulations things will go up and this is
30:23at the moment uniting us preparing us
30:25mentally mentally making us more confident
30:28and also being ready to be citizens role it's
30:32realizing that we are here as citizens of
30:34india not ourselves not as kirin baby but
30:38the indian the indian kid it's we are all
30:41indians together it's a motherland we are
30:43all together to protect our motherland just
30:46as we protect our mothers we protect our
30:48motherland a motherland which has given
30:51birth to us given us our parents here given
30:53us our everything here so I think it's
30:56preparing us to be rooted now and value and
30:59respect and regard our motherland so we are
31:03here to protect our motherland rehearsal is a
31:05mental preparation to understand and love and
31:09protect our motherland and with motherland all
31:12our brethren the sisters and brothers sisters and
31:15brothers of this country let nobody divide us at the
31:18moment nobody divide us and also to be very
31:20cautious the ears and eyes of the government so
31:23that if you hear anything you see a suspicious
31:25movement you see immediately inform the law
31:28enforcement authorities to take charge so I
31:31think that's important don't protect it don't
31:33keep it share it give it so that and don't say
31:36so I think that's a message is if you detect anything
31:44suspicious inform immediately and it is then the
31:47onus of the government to act on it okay very very
31:50important message and I'm sure for our viewers it's
31:53been extremely reassuring where you speak about what
31:55really the motive is behind these drills and it's
31:58all about rehearsal thanks very much ma'am for joining
32:01us here on India today for giving us your time
32:04Kiran Bedi former top cop importantly is also served as a
32:07former DG of civil defense so she knows exactly what she's
32:10talking about when she says that these drills are more of
32:13ensuring that mentally we're prepared it's a rehearsal
32:16nothing more and ensuring we're united as a country let me
32:20continue getting your sense of what's happening right now across
32:23the nation as we're gearing up for those drills I'm taking this
32:26across now to promote Madhav he's joining us live from
32:29Chennai Chennai is interestingly one of those cities in the south
32:34which falls under category one of a high threat perhaps because
32:39it's a coastal city is why Chennai falls in that category and
32:42it's not just Chennai but also Kalpakkam the nuclear power plant in
32:45Tamil Nadu which also falls in that category so there will be a focus
32:48promote on what these drills actually look like in the city of Chennai perhaps
32:54in category one because it's by the sea
32:56it certainly is Ashita you're absolutely right about saying that how
33:03Tamil Nadu has a vast coastline not just that we also have two power plants not
33:07one one is Kodankulam and the other one is Kalpakkam and right now we've been
33:11given information that four locations have been decided to go ahead with the
33:15mock drills for tomorrow one is Kalpakkam the other one is about the heavy
33:18vehicles and ordnance factory that is at Aavadi the other one is an oil
33:22refinery which is at Manadi all these are around Chennai and also the Chennai
33:26and all these are the four locations where we can go ahead and see a mock drill
33:30the home in the home secretary for the state of Tamil Nadu held an extensive
33:34meeting today and we are waiting for more details on it but these are the four
33:37locations that have been chosen and we presume one of them would be decided to go
33:41ahead with mock drills especially just like you mentioned it is about the
33:44usage of air rates what if there is a kind of disaster and something like
33:48immediately people have to be evacuated what are the self like a discipline the
33:52people need to follow at this kind of crucial times these are the ones that
33:55will be actually are like decided and will be enacted tomorrow to make sure that in
34:01the moment of panic people know what to do and crucial life could be saved
34:04Ashita so there are a couple of sensitive regions areas in Tamil Nadu which
34:10will be seeing these drills and promote will be tracking those updates let me
34:14take this across also to Suryagni Roy he's joining his life from Kolkata
34:17what about Bengal does it fall in the high threat area does Kolkata fall in the
34:22high threat area let's just take a quick look at that not really Kolkata is in
34:26category 2 moderate threat much like Bengaluru but Suryagni at the same time you
34:31know it's not just Kolkata but there's actually a long list from West Bengal of
34:35places where we're going to be seeing these mock drills happen tomorrow
34:41well absolutely let's not forget that West Bengal is a border state and it's it does share a long it does shares the you know the longest border that India has with Bangladesh and given the entire
34:57geopolitical you know situation maybe that's the reason why so many districts of
35:02West Bengal and even greater Kolkata has been included in in those you know in the
35:09list where the civil defense mock drills will happen tomorrow however it's still
35:15unclear where all are the centers or the places where the drill will be happening as
35:21as we speak you know what we do come to know is that a decision is you know supposed
35:27to be taken on these spots where you know the drill is likely to happen tomorrow but
35:32you know as and when it happens it has to be seen how the civil defense you know the
35:38teams they conduct the drills because let's not forget we were speaking about the
35:42metros and the underground underground you know bunkers and all in various other
35:49parts of the country Kolkata has a very you know long a metro you know line and
35:56it's not it's not a year back or it's it's a it it it it does have a long history
36:01associated to it and it's the oldest metro you know line that India has so it has to
36:07be seen how the government over here plans to conduct these mock drills and
36:11utilize the resources that it has so you know very often why you're talking about
36:16these metro stations is because these stations turn into bunkers in many parts
36:20of the country in the absence of bunkers let me bring in Abdul Bashir he's
36:24joining us live from Hyderabad what about the city of Hyderabad it is very much
36:29going to see these mock drills but is not considered to be high threat it falls on
36:34the category 2 which is a moderate threat zone but having said that has been
36:38identified as one of the cities that will have these mock drills Hyderabad Abdul I'm
36:43sure is gearing up for these drills and it isn't just Hyderabad there are
36:46specific locations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh too that have been identified
36:50well yes Hyderabad and Vishakhapatnam both are the locations where this security
36:59drills or mock drills will be conducted when we talk about Hyderabad Hyderabad is
37:02completely geared up which comes in the category 2 of tomorrow at 4 p.m. is where
37:08this mock drill will be held the integrated command control center along with it other
37:12locations several locations where industrial sirens will be activated sharp
37:16at 4 o'clock after which the preparation will start and at 4 15 is where the
37:21civil defense services 12 of the civil defense services will come into action
37:26where four locations will be decided where this mock drills will be head held
37:31where the police fire brigade medical services revenue and municipal
37:36officials including SDRF will be on the ground where situation will be created where
37:42how to evacuate people get the injured people out no make a note of the you know
37:48missing persons everything will be done after air strike
37:53intimation from air raid information that will be given from the integrated
37:57command control center to these 12 civil defense services now these 12 civil
38:01defense services will be on ground at this four locations where the whole mock drill will be
38:06conducted and at 4 30 p.m. is where the whole action will end so this half of the time has been
38:11decided in Hyderabad and in other parts of the country will mostly happen at about four in the
38:16evening but we're going to be tracking all the latest updates the reason I got all of our
38:20reporters to join us on this broadcast is to give you a sense of how we're covering every single
38:25part of the country and the drills that will be taking place tomorrow but I'd like to thank all of
38:30them for joining us on this broadcast we will get you the latest updates on those drills but let's cut
38:36to big breaking news that's coming in
38:37and India has now issued a notum for a fairly large air exercise along the southern section of its
38:52border with Pakistan and this notum has been issued for 7th and 8th May that's tomorrow and the day
38:59after the Indian Air Force flexing muscle planning a mega air exercise along the southern section of our
39:08border with Pakistan big breaking news that's coming in a notum as is protocol has been issued which is
39:14essentially a notification that's gone through for 7th and 8th May for these exercises to take place
39:22Shivani Sharma is joining us with more details on the Shivani any details really that are being put out
39:30on the nature of these air exercises and exactly where it will happen
39:34see the Indian Air Force has been conducting exercise regularly and this is the second big exercise that
39:41has been planned for tomorrow and as we can see that this is the notum that has been issued by the Indian
39:47Air Force for this particular exercise but it's important that this is happening quite close to
39:52the Rajasthan border where we have a number of air bases of Indian Air Force and most of them will be
39:58activated with most of the assets so this is the operational preparedness of the Indian Armed Forces
40:04including the Indian Air Force remember after the Pahalgam attack immediately there was a exercise
40:09which was carried out by the Indian Air Force it was exercise Akraman and this is the second big exercise
40:15for which we can see the NOTAM has been issued so big operational demonstrations by the Indian Air Force
40:22are planned during this duration that shows starting tomorrow okay Shivani thanks for those details
40:30tomorrow and the day after is when these air exercises will take place
40:34big breaking news coming in from Balochistan where there's been another attack on the Pakistan Army
40:48a Pakistan Army vehicle has been targeted six Pakistani soldiers have died in this attack
40:55it's an IAD blast is the information that we have six Pakistani army personnel including an officer
41:02has died in this attack five have been injured we understand that a major rank soldier
41:08of the Pakistan Army has also died in this blast it's an IAD blast that took place in the Geshtri area
41:15of Bolan district of Balochistan this is the news that's just come in of six Pakistani soldiers
41:22who've died in this attack five others have also been injured the information that we have right now
41:28is that it is an IAD blast that took place
41:31I made tensions between India and Pakistan you've got a message coming in from Sunil Gavaskar we spoke exclusively
41:51to Gavaskar who says very clearly we have
42:08intense there's no impact on the IPL as of now here's an excerpt of the conversation we had with Gavaskar
42:15right with a shadow of imminent India Pakistan war we are discussing how will that impact cricket
42:29and the IPL which is ongoing at the moment joining us for more on that is former captain of the Indian
42:36Indian team and now a commentator voice of Indian cricket in uh Sunil Gavaskar uh say why you know
42:41after the the notices that we've got and the advisory that has come from the central government
42:48for states to follow a protocol have a lights out drill it seems uh you know military action is imminent
42:54uh how do you feel this if it was to be uh what we're expecting it is to be uh how do you think it is
43:02going to impact the IPL which is ongoing at the moment well at the moment uh still something happens
43:09i don't think it will impact uh the the IPL uh yes uh uh in the evening where the match is being played
43:16there will be of course when there will be perhaps the the light soft drill in the city uh then i think
43:22that could be a little bit of of a concern but as of now i don't see uh uh the uh the drinks really
43:29affecting the IPL we were reading a bit of uh you know news report on that it's the first time
43:34something like this has been advised to state governments after 1971 do you have any memories
43:40of of those years uh not so much 1971 because 1971 i was pretty much uh out of india for most of
43:47the time first we were in the west india then we went a month and a half later we went to england and
43:52then a month and a half later again two months later i was in australia for the rest of the world
43:58so that whole of 1971 i was out of india and when the event of the uh the uh the war took place i
44:05was actually in australia then so i don't remember much of 1971 but i was i remember very much what
44:12happened in 1965 when we were told that to you know put uh you know a black clock on the on the
44:19windows particularly in the evening when we had the lights on to try and go up to the to the ventilator
44:25wherever possible to shut out shut out the light from being seen from outside so that's what we
44:30were told and you know when when the uh the siren uh came on we were told to try and get to the
44:36basement we didn't have any shelter underground shelters any of the sort but we came up for
44:40frankly whichever building had a had a basement we were advised to go down there but for a little
44:45while it was no more than you know 10 minutes or so and then you know we would 10 15 minutes and
44:51then we would be back up in our in our houses so the situation that the two countries find themselves
44:59in one can't fathom any sort of cricket between the two in a in a scenario that is uh there at the
45:04moment you spoke about the asia cup the other day maybe uh you know you said have a tri-series
45:09or a quadrangular series instead of an asia cup without pakistan the other thing that comes to your
45:14mind is right after the asia cup is also the icc tournament in a women's world cup do you uh see a
45:20scenario uh where india and pakistan can play even in an icc tournament even though it'll be played in
45:25a neutral venue as we already know uh in in times that we are at the moment can you even envision
45:31an india pakistan game at all well that's that's some uh months away so you know you never know what
45:37happens i think can uh get better and i do hope that things can get better but till then i think it's
45:44very difficult to say at the moment if you were to ask me next week i i don't think you know india
45:48have backed up but this uh icc tournament is uh a little distance away so maybe uh we'll have to
45:56wait wait a bit for that finally you know as a prominent citizen of the country uh what would be
46:03your message to your countrymen ahead of what is turning into a hostile situation between two
46:08nuclear powers at the moment well i i just have a message for our armed forces um the army navy
46:16uh air force that you know we have the utmost faith and perfect all these years we've been sleeping
46:22peacefully only because of how you are about guiding our borders and how you are guiding our interiors
46:28as well and i just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for that and uh even now when
46:34everybody is uh maybe just a little tense we still have the utmost faith and trust in you i wish you all the
46:40best in in whatever uh you you are doing and continue to do god bless you and to to fellow
46:47citizens uh i will just say that you know this is the time that all of us have to come together before
46:52to forget all our little petty differences that we might have our petty you know misconceptions that
46:57we might have and just get together and just get behind our army and our government
47:03so what happens to tomorrow's uh ipl game it's a match of kkr versus csk at the eden garden but with
47:10the mock drills planned tomorrow and even blackouts as a part of off the drill will tomorrow's match
47:16be affected we spoke to the ipl chairman on this listen in
47:19uh
47:24uh
47:26uh
47:28uh
47:30uh
47:32uh
47:34uh
47:38uh
47:40uh

47:59and when we have to be able to make our country,
48:04we will be able to make our country better.
48:08I have asked you a question.
48:13IPL is running in India.
48:16Those who are the developments,
48:19you can see IPL's plan,
48:22what is this case?
48:24If this is something that happens,
48:26So, at that time, what decisions can be made or what is needed to keep the IPL Government Council on?
48:35Look, there are a lot of speculative things going on. We can't do anything about that.
48:40But when there will be time to do this, where it will be needed to do something for the country,
48:49then it will be standing with the government and the government, with the government.
48:53Before I wrap up this broadcast, let's get to our daily fact check.
49:00There are several videos doing the rounds on social media.
49:02We found one that shows an Air Force fighter jet crashing while taking off.
49:08And the claim was that this was during a recent wartime drill.
49:11So, we went through that footage, scanned it, and found that this video has actually been doing the rounds for the last many, many years, since 2013.
49:19And it, in all likelihood, shows a 2010 crash.
49:23So, no, currently, there's been no plane crash, no Air Force plane crash,
49:27that's been reported in the aftermath of the Pahagam terror attack on April 22nd.
49:32So, we will continue getting you details of what's fake versus what's fact,
49:37as we continue getting you all of those updates of videos that are constantly doing the rounds on social media.
49:43Don't believe everything you see out there.
49:44But that's all we have time for in this edition of Super 6.
49:47Thanks very much for tuning in.
