00:00But a massive win, a defensive masterclass from Draymond Green,
00:04from Jimmy Butler, and Buddy Buckets.
00:07When you needed him the most in Game 7, in Game 1, it doesn't matter.
00:12Buddy Heald was incredible yet again.
00:16You had contributions from everyone in this game.
00:19Pat Spencer, you kidding me?
00:21I think all of us need to shave our beards and just get the mustache.
00:24Carter shaved that beard.
00:25I don't know if you can grow on Chaski.
00:27Sam Lubman, shave it.
00:28We all need the mustaches.
00:30In honor of Pat Spencer.
00:31But wow, what a win.
00:32The emotions are all over the place.
00:34Good morning, Joe.
00:36Game win stealing.
00:37I can't.
00:38I'm out here reeling.
00:39Are you kidding me?
00:40What a son of a gun.
00:42Woo!
00:42Woo!
00:43Woo!
00:43I feel like Ric Flair this morning.
00:45I want to start here and just right off the rip.
00:47You can make an argument.
00:49That was the best offense, defense, emotional control game for Draymond Green
00:56since Game 7, 2016.
00:58The game that the team lost, Father's Day, against LeBron James.
01:02I thought he was spectacular.
01:04But to me, the number one thing, and I want to give this man praise.
01:07We crushed this guy for every lineup combination, every win, every loss.
01:13We nitpick.
01:13We do everything.
01:14This was all about Steve Kerr.
01:16I mean, this really was.
01:17Steve Kerr, I honest to God believe.
01:21I don't know if it's the best, but it's one of the best wins I have seen in the 15 years
01:27that this team has been put together.
01:28He pulled every string.
01:32He called timeouts so brilliantly to stop momentum.
01:36He used substitutions to get a feel for what was working, what wasn't.
01:41He got everyone involved early in the game.
01:43At one point, I believe they might have used 13 guys in total, all right?
01:49Steph Curry got hurt, and they won a game going away on the road with less than 20 hours
01:58of rest flying across the country when no one thought they could win, myself included.
02:04Steve Kerr was absolutely brilliant in this one.
02:08A guy in Jonathan Kaminga who we all have our opinions on him.
02:12He dusted him off.
02:14Jonathan Kaminga.
02:15Rode with him.
02:16He hit a big three, and he rewarded his confidence.
02:20Pat Spencer, who no one in the league knows except diehard Warrior fans, who was a lacrosse player.
02:27Not only gave you good minutes, he gave you phenomenal minutes.
02:32Phenomenal minutes.
02:33With a hook shot off the backboard, being called a YMCA player by Van Gundy.
02:39Are you kidding me?
02:40Buddy Buckets getting rewarded with another start, wearing the wrong shorts to start the game,
02:47which I've never even heard of, okay?
02:49Causing a delay of game.
02:51He rode with Buddy Buckets, and Buddy Buckets has not one,
02:55but two of the best back-to-back performances from a non-star player I can remember in the playoffs
03:02for the Golden State Warriors.
03:04And I got to go further.
03:05Draymond with five fouls, and the lead is just, it's hanging in the balance.
03:11He goes to the trusted goons, GP2, and Kavon Looney.
03:14I say that with all my heart.
03:16I don't say that as a backhanded club.
03:18I mean that because we love them.
03:19And Kavon Looney was amazing.
03:23With Draymond Green on the bench with five fouls, and they held on.
03:27They found a way to win.
03:28And Jimmy Butler, the guy you acquired at the deadline,
03:31who half this fan base didn't even know could play nice with others.
03:36Jimmy Butler found a way to ride you home as GP2's hitting a big three down the stretch.
03:42As Buddy Eald is just, is on fire.
03:44Kaminga hits a corner three.
03:46This team had every lever pulled.
03:50And I thought Steve Kerr felt the sense of the moment from the minute the game started
03:56to the final whistle.
03:58It was a master class in Hall of Fame championship level coaching.
04:03Steve Kerr, that was the win of all wins.
04:07I don't know if it's the best one, but it's one of the best wins I've ever seen for my Warriors.
04:12I'm so proud of them.
04:13And shout out to those watching on Twitch, Twitter, and YouTube.
04:15Brought to you by First NorCal Credit Union for a low-rate auto loan.
04:18Apply online or just ask for First NorCal financing at the dealer.
04:21Joe Shasky's fired up.
04:22I want to hear from Dub Nation all day long.
04:25We will be taking your calls right here on 95.7 The Game.
04:27And we are coming to you live from the Laughing Monk Studios.
04:30Laughing Monk, it's righteously brewed here in San Francisco.
04:33And I get it.
04:34People are waking up this morning.
04:35They're feeling like you.
04:37They're feeling like, oh my God, how did we win that game?
04:39Everything was stacked against us heading into this game.
04:41If I'm a Warriors fan, hang into it, right?
04:42A grueling game, seven-game series against the Houston Rockets.
04:47We've been talking about it all postseason long.
04:49What's everyone talking about with this Warriors team?
04:51Age, age, age.
04:52Jimmy Butler, 35.
04:54Draymond Green, 35.
04:55Stephen Curry, 37.
04:56Oh, the rest versus rust, right?
04:58Oh, Minnesota, they're so much younger.
05:00They've been fresh.
05:01Well, the rest versus rust.
05:02I think I've heard that on the broadcast last night for TNT at least a thousand times
05:06from Bryan Anderson and Stan Van Gundy.
05:08It looked real.
05:09Minnesota looked awful, offensively awful.
05:12And I'm going to give credit to the Warriors, and I'm also going to not give credit to the
05:15Warriors at the same time because Minnesota, I don't know what they were doing from the
05:19three-point line.
05:19It was horrible.
05:20But you know what?
05:21Steve Kerr just kept chugging along, pulling the right levers, didn't play without himself
05:27when it comes to rotations.
05:29He had a master class of a game plan yesterday in picking and choosing spots.
05:35Hey, Quinn Post, maybe it wasn't your time yesterday.
05:37Moses Moody, eh, he didn't have it yesterday.
05:39Pat Spencer, he had it.
05:41Jonathan Kaminga for some possessions, he had it.
05:43He had a six-spin move yesterday.
05:44Honestly, it was ugly early, and I'm glad that Kerr stuck with him.
05:49Yes, absolutely.
05:50Guy Santos for a couple minutes.
05:51I think you said 13 players, 12 in total for the Warriors played yesterday.
05:54Oh, 12.
05:55Okay, I thought the other guy checked in for 40 seconds or whatever.
05:58No, it was Pat Spencer, Moses Moody, Gary Payton, Quinton Post, Guy Santos, Kevon Looney,
06:03Jonathan Kaminga.
06:04That's what I'm seeing here on the box.
06:05There must have been one more, the guy, the G-leaguer.
06:07Braxton Key.
06:08Braxton Key.
06:08I thought he checked in for a possession.
06:11I could be wrong.
06:11I saw him get up and go to the scorer's table.
06:13It's all right.
06:14But that was standing.
06:16It was a total team win yesterday.
06:18And I want to hear from Dub Nation at 888-957-9570.
06:22Same number to call or text the Boxer and Gerson Work Injury Attorney's text line.
06:26And yes, if you're just waking up, we know about Stephen Curry.
06:29Had to leave the game.
06:30Only 13 minutes played early in the second quarter.
06:33Hamstring strain, they are calling it.
06:35Be surprised.
06:36Very surprised.
06:36I doubt he plays tomorrow in Minnesota for game two.
06:39And any and all information we get from that, whether it's Shams, whether it's from whoever,
06:44Ramona Shelburne, I don't know.
06:45No, we will relay that information to you.
06:47And we got Doc Pandia, UCSF Health, joining us in the 7 o'clock hour to discuss this injury.
06:52In a game where you lose Steph Curry and you lose your offense, it was ugly at times in the second half offensively.
07:00And we'll get to that.
07:01They scored 18 points in the first quarter.
07:03All right.
07:03And it felt like they actually had a great first quarter.
07:07And then you look up after halftime, the lowest point total of the season for Minnesota, the lowest point total, it was 31 to 44.
07:19And in that second quarter, when you find out that Steph Curry is not coming back, this team looked to Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler, and the rest of the guys to just kind of stabilize things.
07:33And I just keep going back to Draymond Green because Draymond was brilliant in that second quarter and in the first half in general.
07:41And obviously defensively down the stretch, he was outstanding.
07:44But it was the offense for me, the offense, the shooting.
07:46He had four threes at halftime.
07:49He was unbelievable.
07:50You needed someone else to step up and then cue the third quarter.
07:56They go on a run with Buddy Heald hitting bucket after bucket after bucket.
08:01I don't know what he ended up with, but at one point, he had 14 points in that third quarter.
08:05And you could feel it.
08:06It was like, oh, my God, are you kidding me?
08:08This team desperately needed these Buddy moments.
08:11They held them to 60 points through three quarters.
08:14And then in the fourth quarter, with Draymond Green in foul trouble, you just knew it was a matter of time before Ant Edwards, who they held bottled up for about three quarters of this game.
08:24He had one point at halftime.
08:26You knew he was going to go off.
08:27And he started attacking the rim.
08:29Gobert was a load.
08:30You could tell he started to really flex his muscle and his leverage.
08:34And I just love that this team found a way to take a big punch from Minnesota without their top dog.
08:42And they held on on the road.
08:43This is why you got Jimmy Butler.
08:45That was, I think, the word we're both looking for, and I'm going to use right now, is resilient.
08:49That was a resilient win.
08:50100%.
08:51When you lose one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, who was, let's be honest, he was cooking early, too.
08:57Steph was balling.
08:58He was.
08:58That was going to be a Steph game.
08:59He was 5-9, 3-6 overall.
09:01He had 13 points early in that second quarter.
09:03That was feeling like a 30-burger from Stephen Curry yesterday.
09:06And maybe the final score would have looked a lot worse for the Minnesota Timberwolves had Steph stayed healthy in that one.
09:11But he had to leave.
09:12And that's when you got to lean on your veterans.
09:14But he healed.
09:15Jimmy Butler.
09:16Draymond Green.
09:16Pause.
09:16Thomas wasn't having it yesterday.
09:17He could not shoot the ball very well.
09:19He had some moments in the game.
09:20He had some big rebounds defensively.
09:21He had a couple of assists.
09:23He had some great charges.
09:24He did.
09:24He did.
09:25Two.
09:25Yes.
09:26Two big ones.
09:26But Gary Payton, I thought, was huge in this game.
09:29Big, big threes when they needed it.
09:31They did a couple of assists.
09:32They defended without fouling.
09:33Yes.
09:34Very well for a very long stretch.
09:36At one point, they had not scored a bucket in the second quarter for almost six minutes.
09:40I'm talking about Minnesota.
09:41Right.
09:42They defended without fouling so well.
09:44Now, eventually, obviously, you're going to regress to the means.
09:47And they've got to figure out how to slow down Anthony Edwards attacking the hoop.
09:50You have to assume other things are going to change in game two.
09:54Conley is not going to be non-existent.
09:55He's going to hit shots.
09:57But I thought they took a huge blow across the face.
10:00And this team responded.
10:01But Jimmy with a big stabilizing bucket late.
10:04And look, they're going to have to figure out the offense.
10:07But guys stepped up when they needed it the most without the franchise's greatest player.
10:12So with 6-0-2 remaining, this was the game.
10:14As far as I was concerned, this was the game right here.
10:16So Gobert's at the line.
10:17Right.
10:18Has a chance to cut it to eight points.
10:20Makes one of two.
10:21So it's a nine-point lead.
10:22And then right after that, it's a Jimmy Butler rebound off the missed free throw.
10:26Buddy healed.
10:27Huge three.
10:28Put them up 12.
10:29Yes.
10:29And then McDaniels on the other end.
10:31Next possession.
10:32Driving layup.
10:32Missed.
10:33Looney rebound.
10:34Jimmy Butler gets the floater.
10:36They push you back up to 14.
10:37It's a quick 5-0 run after that.
10:39They had a chance to cut it to eight.
10:40And instead of being eight, it turns into a 14-point lead with about five and a half remaining.
10:46That, for me, that was the game right there.
10:48That was them saying, no, no, no, no, no.
10:50We're stopping the bleeding right now.
10:52We once had a 23-point lead in this game.
10:55Credit to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
10:57They finally found it.
10:58Listen, they had too much talent for them to just totally put them away in there.
11:01They're going to make runs.
11:02It's a game of runs.
11:03And that's what happened yesterday.
11:05Finally, Minnesota made one in the fourth quarter because they were desperate and they
11:08needed to do it.
11:09The Warriors stayed calm and they didn't panic.
11:12We saw some panicking happening within these first three games prior to yesterday, prior
11:17to the Cleveland one, and even some panicking yesterday in game two of that Cleveland Pacers
11:21game.
11:21By the way, just total insanity in sports yesterday.
11:24I know you're not locked in on Champions League.
11:26Barcelona, Inter Milan, one of the craziest games I've ever seen in my entire life.
11:30That went to extra time.
11:31Don't care at all.
11:32Sure, you don't.
11:33You don't.
11:33Stop.
11:33Not care at all.
11:34Stop.
11:34Stop.
11:35Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers, insanity.
11:38Tyrese Halliburton overrate that.
11:39That incredible, incredible win for them.
11:43They're now up 2-0 heading back to Indiana.
11:45And then the Warriors, what they did yesterday.
11:46Let's not forget about my Giants winning in extra innings, you know, blowing the doors
11:51off the Cubs.
11:52As you were panicking, talking about Ryan Walker and the Texans.
11:54Well, I don't think Ryan Walker deserves to be the closer.
11:55That's a story for a different day.
11:57Fine, exactly, exactly.
11:58You're talking about not caring.
11:59Not about that.
11:59I'm not caring about that one.
12:00It's a garlic fries and baseball guy.
12:01Exactly.
12:01There you go.
12:02But capitalizing all of that was last night's win in Minnesota.
12:06And we want to hear from the people today.
12:078-8-9-5-7-9-5-7-0.
12:09What a win!
12:10What was the most impressive part of that win for you?
12:12Because I just come away impressed with the resilience of that team.
12:16I think Steve Kerr, a lot of people are saying and chiming in on.
12:19I think Buddy Heald, obviously.
12:20Jimmy Butler.
12:21People love this with Pat Spencer.
12:23Pat Spencer with the running hook shots.
12:25Are you kidding me?
12:26Pat Spencer was built for the moment.
12:27He was built for the moment.
12:28He was not afraid.
12:29And Sam Van Gundy, to a year point on the call for TNT, he was like, whenever I watch
12:33this guy, he's just good.
12:36Like, that's all he can say.
12:36He's like, he's just making winning plays every time he's on there.
12:39He's an NBA player.
12:40And I'm not here to say that he's a starter.
12:43He's an NBA player.
12:44And look, the guy was awesome.
12:46Fourth quarter, Nas Reed starts hitting shots.
12:49And you're thinking to yourself, oh boy.
12:51Here we go.
12:51Yeah, he was the only one hitting threes.
12:53Nas Reed is obviously a warrior killer.
12:55I mean, right when he checked in in the first quarter, boom, immediate layup.
12:58But he hits a big three, all right?
13:00And then DiVincenzo hacks the ever-living you-know-what out of John Lee Kaminga.
13:05They get a strip, boom, and all of a sudden the Warriors get the ball right back.
13:10And this was a huge sequence for me.
13:12Kaminga hits a corner three off of a Jimmy Butler drive, all right?
13:16And then Pods draws an immediate charge.
13:20An immediate charge.
13:21Boom, another buddy three.
13:23Like, they stabilize things.
13:25So many different points in this game in the fourth quarter.
13:28And look, I thought they could have lost this game 50 different ways.
13:32As big as the lead was, you know, DiVincenzo hits a big three right before the end of the third quarter.
13:38And you're thinking, oh boy, here we go.
13:41But sense of the moment, Steve Kerr, I thought he pulled all the lineups.
13:45I thought he utilized his timeouts brilliantly.
13:48If you're a young coach out there, timeouts are not just to strategize.
13:52Sometimes they're to kill momentum in the arena.
13:54Sometimes it's to just, you know, change up the flow or to explain something.
13:59Sometimes it's to install a very brilliant inbound play.
14:02They went to an inbound play on a sideline out of bounds.
14:05Draymond's the inbounder, okay?
14:07They throw it to Jimmy Butler.
14:09Jimmy throws it to Buddy.
14:10Buddy screens Jimmy.
14:12Jimmy goes backdoor.
14:13Dray throws a brilliant backdoor pass.
14:16Boom, a layup.
14:17That's coaching 101.
14:20And I just thought his utilization of trying out different combinations of lineups,
14:24the feel for the momentum of the game, what was working, what was not working,
14:28it's as good as Steve Kerr's ever been.
14:30Do you know what the offensive rebounds were for Jimmy Butler yesterday?
14:34He was unreal.
14:34He had seven.
14:36I know.
14:36Seven offensive rebounds.
14:38And it wasn't a scoring game for him, per se, but he hit a couple of big middies that
14:44really helped balance the floor out for Buddy Heald later on in the game.
14:48Absolutely.
14:48So 20 points for him, 11 boards, and again, seven of those offensive.
14:52Eight assists.
14:53He was two assists shy from a triple-double, and they needed all.
14:56That was a total, just complete Jimmy Butler masterclass.
14:59When we're talking about playoff Jimmy, that's like a Miami Heat playoff Jimmy performance
15:03that we're now getting in a Golden State Warriors uniform.
15:06It was offensive.
15:07It was defense.
15:07It was getting every single person involved, and he needed to do that.
15:10He needed to be Batman yesterday when Batman and Stephen Curry had to go out.
15:14He needed to put the cape on and put the mask on, and he did it.
15:17And Buddy put the Robin mask on.
15:19Are you kidding me?
15:19It was 24 points.
15:21He made as many three-point shots as the entire Minnesota Timberwolves team did.
15:27Five three-pointers made for Buddy Heald.
15:29He was awesome.
15:30Five in total for Minnesota.
15:32And real quick, by the way, in the last two games, the Minnesota Timberwolves, I know we're
15:35up against it.
15:35We're going to break here.
15:37Going back to the Lakers series, and now this one.
15:39In their last two games, the Minnesota Timberwolves from beyond the arc, 12 of 76, which is
15:46the worst two-game number in playoff history for a team with over 50 attempts.
15:52They can't shoot, though.
15:54Like, Nas Reed, Conley's going to hit at some point.
15:56McDaniels has a lot of middies.
15:58That's not their strength.
15:59No.
15:59I think this matchup, as you can tell.
16:01Edwards will get hot eventually.
16:02Like, he'll have a game here or two.
16:03But he's an inefficient shooter.
16:05Sure.
16:05Right?
16:06Like, so, I look at this, and I go, this series is completely different.
16:09How less physical was this game?
16:12It was.
16:12The freedom of movement, it just felt like the offense was wide open.
