In House floor remarks, Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) spoke about a mass shooting this past weekend in Glendale, Arizona.
Transcript
00:00Mr. Speaker, I'd ask for unanimous consent to address the health and revive and extend my remarks.
00:04Without objections, the gentlewoman is recognized for one minute.
00:08Mr. Speaker, on Sunday night, the community that I represent in Glendale, Arizona,
00:14was rocked by yet another mass shooting in America.
00:17As families and friends came together to eat, drink, and dance,
00:21they looked forward to celebrating Cinco de Mayo and spending time in their community.
00:25Instead, their worlds were shattered as someone with a gun fired into the crowd outside the restaurant,
00:32killing three people, and injuring five more.
00:36I cannot imagine the pain and sadness that their families and loved ones now feel,
00:41and I am sending them love and strength.
00:44Every single person there will be forever impacted by the violence and trauma that mass shootings impose on communities.
00:50For far too long, we've been forced to watch as gun violence devastates our communities,
00:55and we feel unsafe going to the movies or eating out at a restaurant.
01:00One thing is clear.
01:02These acts of violence and the trauma they inflict on all of us are preventable.
01:07They are a policy choice.
01:09It's time for us to make a new choice.
01:12Common sense policy reform to regulate guns and prevent mass shootings like this one in Glendale
01:17have broad bipartisan support.
01:19It's beyond time we stand up and do something.
01:23Thank you, and I yield back.
