00:00The clock is dark. The Warriors don't have to shoot it.
00:02Buddy Heald's going to dribble this one out.
00:05And a gutsy, hard-fought, huge victory for Golden State
00:08as they win game one with Steph Curry back in the locker room
00:13with a strained left hamstring for over half the game.
00:16And the Warriors, with only one day of rest after a tough game seven,
00:21they have captured game one of this Western Conference semifinal series.
00:25Final score for the Target Center.
00:27Golden State, 99, and Minnesota, 88.
00:32Tim Roy on the call, 95-7.
00:34The game, Warriors beat the T-Wolves in game one.
00:39But Steph Curry gets injured.
00:42Looks like he's got a hamstring injury, Goo.
00:44Not going to play tomorrow.
00:46Wow.
00:47But the Warriors, you know, we've got to balance it out.
00:50That was a gutsy win.
00:52It was an overwhelming win in a lot of ways.
00:57But now they may have to deal with playing without Curry for, I don't know how long.
01:02I don't, we're all going to be guessing, right?
01:05Listen, and with all my imperfections, what we do on a daily basis, Donnie,
01:10is we share with the listeners, it's like our diary.
01:14And I'm so despondent after what happened with Steph Curry last night.
01:20I'm fired up for the win.
01:22I got thrown out of a watch party, a group chat with my buddies because they said,
01:27I'm turning into you because I was so fixated on what the future was and not enjoying.
01:33I mean, they were mad.
01:34But I'm mad.
01:35And, Stiney, this was a great effort by the Warriors to hold Minnesota to 31 points in the first half
01:42after the Game 7 defense.
01:45That was championship defense yesterday by everybody in black.
01:49And Draymond, the second game in a row, showing you there may be no other.
01:54This could be the first time seeing this.
01:58But with that said, you're telling me the game after Steph Curry helped close, he played 45 minutes,
02:06he comes up lame, and now I'm looking at this team through a different prism.
02:11I'm going to be positive.
02:13I need your help and the listeners.
02:15But, Stiney, my gosh, I'm just like this grade one strain.
02:19How can I sit here and look at you and say everything that was, I could taste it,
02:23and it was manifesting into a run?
02:26The chef, 16 years in, has never had a strained muscle.
02:31So, I don't know when he's coming back, but I almost want to tell you all, call me crazy,
02:36I would rather have lost Game 1 and had Steph with the healthy hamstring.
02:41I'm going there early.
02:44You want some good news?
02:45Give it to me.
02:47You ain't going to need Steph Curry if the Timberwolves play like that.
02:51I mean, goodness gracious.
02:53You know, I'll give, you know, you got to give the Warriors credit for winning that game,
02:59but oh my God.
03:01Oh my God.
03:02I am panicking.
03:03Yeah.
03:04I'm talking about the Timberwolves.
03:05I hear you.
03:06What was it?
03:07I mean, that was maybe, that was the worst game I've seen them play.
03:11I mean, you're laughing, but we're like, that was wow.
03:16I mean.
03:1711 points in the second quarter.
03:19Anthony Edwards.
03:21Stiney, those weren't misses.
03:22Those were bricks, bud.
03:24They were terrible.
03:26By the way, guys, from Sham Sharania, so the official Steph Curry injury designation is
03:32a grade one hamstring strain.
03:34It's the first time he's ever strained a muscle in his NBA career, but they expect him to miss
03:39at least one week.
03:41So game four is six days away.
03:43Game five is eight days away.
03:45Game six is 12 days.
03:48Man.
03:49Well.
03:51That's not official, though.
03:54I mean, but.
03:55Yes, it is.
03:55No, he said a week.
03:56Oh, it's from the Warriors.
03:58This is from Sham Sharani of ESPN.
03:59It's a grade one hamstring strain.
04:02They're expecting him to miss at least one week.
04:04All right.
04:05Wow.
04:05I think the Warriors officially are like, he's missing.
04:08They haven't gone that far, is all I'm saying.
04:10But no, there's nothing from Warriors.
04:11I'm not saying he's wrong.
04:13Yeah, yeah.
04:13Thanks.
04:14Thanks, Evan.
04:15But that's 99.9.
04:17And with big boy like Shams, you would think.
04:20You would think.
04:20Yeah.
04:21You would think.
04:21But go ahead.
04:22Yeah, Minnesota was awful, but I'm giving the Warriors.
04:25Stiney, they were in their space.
04:27And I don't know if Minnesota didn't know that the Warriors had this,
04:30did their first look with Jimmy Butler.
04:32But my goodness, man, the Warriors' defense is spectacular.
04:36And maybe they can climb this tree.
04:38We'll talk about last night without Steph for a few games.
04:41But I'm going to need more from Jimmy.
04:43But last night, Buddy Hildegin and Draymond Green, Stiney,
04:47are my stars.
04:47And Coach Kerr, he is, he is, I mean,
04:50Captain James T.
04:51Kirk right now with these rotations.
04:54Stiney, you got it or not, you're coming out.
04:56Everybody's available.
04:57Go in.
04:58If you're, come out.
04:59I love it.
05:01Kerr's in his bag.
05:02Yeah, I mean, I don't, I don't know if, you know,
05:08it's that old half and half thing.
05:10I got to give half the credit to the Warriors and then say that, you know,
05:14Timberwolves, I mean, they're fourth in the league in three-point percentage.
05:18They go five for 30.
05:20I can't make a shot.
05:22They can't make, they couldn't make any shots.
05:26I mean, they just couldn't make any shots.
05:29And the Warriors win a game where, they win a game on the road where they shoot 39%.
05:36Man, oh man.
05:37You know, that's kind of one of those games where, man,
05:42how many times does a road team win when they shoot that poorly?
05:46But it was an indication of how good the Warriors were playing defensively
05:49and how much that the Timberwolves couldn't make a shot, quite frankly.
05:55Again, Stiney, I'm being real.
05:57And it looks like Spadoni and Lubman and Shasky put out a poll,
06:01who'll get your game ball, we'll get to that.
06:03But the winner was Buddy.
06:04And I'm not, Buddy is, like, I think he's playing like prime clay,
06:09you know, just on both ends of the court.
06:11But Draymond Green, after kind of being basically quiet in game five
06:15and six of the Rockets series, Stiney, I don't think if I,
06:18I don't know if I've seen him play better.
06:20Like, just talk to me about what you've seen from Dray and hitting, you know, 4-10.
06:24But it's when he hit the four that kind of set the tone.
06:29I mean, when he plays like that, over the years,
06:32the Warriors have had a lot of success.
06:34He was an offensive threat.
06:35He made his threes.
06:37Defensively, it looked to me like he was just roaming free in the lane.
06:42He was just roaming free.
06:43And he, you know, every time a guy had the ball in the wing for the Timberwolves,
06:47he was leaning that way and kind of discouraging them.
06:51And then if they didn't come, he would drop back into the middle
06:54and wait for the pass to go to the next guy.
06:56And if they tried to penetrate or get into the lane,
06:59he was right there to make it congested and crowded.
07:03And that's one of the reasons why the Timberwolves couldn't finish anything
07:07around the basket.
07:09And the Warriors won the rebound in battle.
07:11I didn't have that on my bingo card.
07:13Yeah, there we go.
07:14And also the offensive rebound, Stiney.
07:17So, again, this is not about the rest of the league,
07:20but all four road teams got victories in the first round of the playoffs
07:24in game one.
07:26But do you think there were nerves in regard to Minnesota?
07:30Can they duplicate that bad effort again tomorrow?
07:33Because if the Warriors somehow without Steph, that's what we know,
07:37can play that hellified defense, who am I to sit here and say they can't hold it down
07:42and come back here with a 2-0 lead for game three Saturday without Steph?
07:47I mean, we can talk about rust, but then you got to talk about the Warriors playing on one day.
07:54It doesn't matter if the Timberwolves weren't ready or they were rusty.
07:58They, you know, now they're down 0-1.
08:01Damn!
08:01They let the Warriors come in and kind of dictate that game.
08:05And they never, the Timberwolves never got it going.
08:10Yeah, I mean, it was one of those games where when you look at the box score for the Warriors,
08:14they had about seven guys who played well.
08:15And you look at the box score for the Timberwolves,
08:18excuse me, I don't know who played well.
08:21Onas Reed?
08:22That was it.
08:23That's it.
08:23I'll give you, it was so bad, I'll give him a plus.
08:26He made a few shots.
08:27That's all he did.
08:28Wow, man.
08:30But anyway, Warriors go up 1-0.
08:34Looks like they're going to have to do it over the next two or three games, though,
08:37without Steph Curry.
08:39I'll tell you what, if there's a silver lining,
08:41it's that when we've seen injuries in the postseason,
08:47sometimes we say a play was dirty or a player was dirty.
08:53At least for this one, nothing happened.
08:57I mean, he just, it looked completely innocuous.
09:01It happened, I thought it happened on the defensive possession when he was down near the Warriors bench,
09:07and then he made that little floater.
09:09Because he was on one, Stiney.
09:10He had that look in his eye.
09:12Yeah, I mean, he looked like Steph.
09:15But you said he ran two miles at game seven, or what did we say, 2.2 miles, Stiney,
09:20and this is the first strained muscle of his career.
09:25All right, 888-957.
09:279-5-7-0 is the number.
09:29Warriors steal?
09:32See, that's what I mean.
09:32They didn't steal anything.
09:34They didn't steal anything last night.
09:36They just took it.
09:38I guess that's stealing, though, isn't it?
09:39Yeah.
09:40They deserved it.
09:41They earned it.
09:42And they made the Minnesota Timberwolves look very, very bad last night.
