00:00That was one of the most emotional episodes of the entire series, making over your parents,
00:10your dads, especially, you know, when you're LGBTQ, like, families aren't always, you know,
00:18accepting of us. What was that like when it was like, when you heard that you could make over
00:22your dads? Well, for me, it was interesting because my dad has been in prison for a long
00:29time. So I haven't always spent a lot of time with my dad, even though he is always, when
00:35he could, has been a part of my life. And doing drag, he has, surprisingly enough, has never
00:42been mad about it or afraid of it. He was always very supportive of me doing drag in the four
00:50years that I've done it. But I didn't know he supported me so much that he would come
00:55on national television and dress up as a woman. So I think a lot of the emotion that y'all
01:03saw when my dad came on was because at first I thought my mom was going to come. And then
01:09when they said my dad's name, it was just so shocking because I knew he supported me just
01:15like not that much. And so it was a, it was a big shock. And I was like overwhelmed with
01:22the emotion, girl. It was a lot. Yeah. It was, yeah, it was so beautiful. Jules, what
01:26about for you? I mean, I think I've seen that clip about a thousand times and it just never
01:31gets old to me. Like it was such a beautiful moment. Like at that point in the competition,
01:35you're just overwhelmed and stressed and just like, we don't have contact to the outside
01:40world. Like we are literally sequestered with no phones and you know, like it's, it's a lot.
01:45And the moment that all the parents started coming in and then getting to see my dad,
01:50who's someone who, you know, has supported me for the, since I was like a kid, like he
01:54would fight for me to get the girls toy at McDonald's, you know, like he was always in
01:58my corner. And for us to share that moment, like him, it's just one of the most beautiful
02:03gifts ever. And then, um, you know, also getting to see a Latino dad and a black dad supporting
02:09their kids, um, on national television like that is so beautiful, especially right now
02:15in, you know, our time in politics where it's just so crazy for, you know, all these, you
02:21know, communities to have that on TV is just, it's so eyeopening for so many people, parents
02:27and kids alike, you know, to, to know that there are men who will, you know, come and support
02:32their kids, um, in such a, you know, huge way.
02:35Um, we can blame Jamie though, for cutting, you know, for editing that episode and making
02:41us weep endlessly.
02:43Thank you, Jamie. You ate that. You ate that. You chewed.
02:47Um, talk about cutting an episode or an episode like the makeover where you've got these incredible
02:53personal moments.
02:55Yeah. I mean, especially in edit and episodes like this, you want the edit to always follow
03:00the emotion. And honestly, this was such a beautiful example of that because it's a competition
03:05show, right? But there was this moment when everyone's parents entered the room that that
03:10kind of stopped. And it's not as if the competition is being pushed at that moment. It's that everyone
03:15wants to feel the raw emotions that are happening in the room. And I think that what we saw is
03:21that being able to breathe and everyone feeling that same emotion. So it's amazing. So here's
03:28a fun fact. Galoka, the casting director, saw the Queens, uh, only virtually right on where you
03:35saw their audition tapes. So she never met them in person till today. Um, fun fact, right?
03:42Um, take us back because the Queens want to know this too. What was it about seeing their
03:48tapes? It was like, I'm going to pin these and send them to the next stage.
03:54Um, yeah, uh, RuPaul's Drag Race has a really unique audition process because they have to showcase
04:00so many different talents. I mean, these Queens are wildly talented. Like they, you know, doing
04:06drag is not just, you know, lip syncing. It's, it's the wardrobe, it's the choreography, it's
04:12the characters, the acting, it's everything that goes around with it. So we have these audition
04:17tapes where we ask them to do different challenges and tell us their story. And it's almost like
04:23the first challenge of the show. And so we need to be able to kind of look at them and see
04:27like, can we really see this person? Who do we think they would be on the show? What
04:30are they showing us? And, and these two really stood out. Um, Jules is, I mean, she just sparkles.
04:37She's got a huge personality. Um, but she also has a really incredible story of, you know,
04:43overcoming adversity and even at such a young age, becoming such a polished performer and
04:48working so hard to get where she is today and learning how to dance like that after having
04:53a, like, uh, I don't know if it was an illness or an injury and your spine is a tumor in my
04:58neck and I have a full bionic spine, but yeah, a bionic spine. And you know, if you've seen
05:02the show, you've seen her perform. So her journey is really, really incredible. And, you know,
05:07but that personality and effervescence really stood out. And, um, your commentary on the show
05:12was so funny. I was like, she cannot be voted off. She is so good. I need her voice in
05:17my head. And Anya, Anya was an example of a newer, a newer queen who, but her drag is really
05:24kind of classic. Um, I remember, um, there was, there was some Eartha Kitt in there and
05:29in the video and, but everyone does a snatch game challenge as part of their audition tape
05:35and hers was so funny. And there were these moments and she was just doing outtakes and
05:40just kind of talking smack and, and just beep and beep and beep. And I just, I watched
05:45it over and over laughing. And I was like, I knew she's a little newer to the game, but
05:50I was like, there's no way Rue doesn't love this. I was like, we have to pitch her.
05:53That's so cool. So cool to hear. And you made me proud. Both of you. Thanks for changing
06:01our lives. Truly. Thank you. Wait, I want to know who, who did you do as your snatch game
06:06in the audition tape? Um, I did Eddie Murphy, um, Eartha Kitt and that's it, right?
06:14Yes. Yeah. But, but you know, it's like sometimes people go all out and it's like,
06:19you were, you just did a really funny interview in a diner. Like you were sitting in a diner
06:24the whole time and your tape, but she's that, you know, it's that natural charisma is what
06:29we're looking at. You can be doing anything and you make it funny and you aren't afraid
06:32to, you know, kind of make mistakes and really sort of show who you are and have fun with
06:36it. And that's what both of these incredible Queens did very well.
06:40I was going to say with the snatch game, I'm always curious, like, how do you decide
06:46who you want to be when it comes to the snatch game challenge? Like, and at what point are
06:52you deciding this?
06:52For me, it was really hard to figure out who I wanted to do. Um, I didn't film this person,
06:57but I also wanted to do Jim Carrey. Um, but after thinking about wanting to do Jim Carrey,
07:03I realized it was because I watched a lot of Jim Carrey movies growing up. So I got
07:09to Eddie Murphy because that's also been a person that I watched my whole life. And
07:14also I've played donkey and Shrek the musical like three times now. So it only made sense
07:23for me to do Eddie Murphy because it just made so much sense. Um, but yeah, I think it was
07:31natural. I think the best thing about snatch game is that the character should find you.
07:35You shouldn't necessarily find the character. The same with Jules, like Sasquatch and then
07:40it works. I was like, that's crazy. Me and Jules actually have the best snatch games.
07:46Yeah. Top two for snatch games.
07:48My journey with snatch was a little different. I had a few characters lined up, but, um, you
07:56know, none of them really worked with what, like what some of them had been done a few
08:00times and then like some of them were copywritten. So I was like, well, what am I going to do?
08:04I don't have a lot of time to really, uh, perfect a character. So then I just made something up.
08:10I was like, I'm going to do miss Bigfoot because you know, we have Bigfoot, this character we've
08:16only seen one picture of, and she's naked in the picture. What is her story? Why is there
08:21one picture of her and she's naked? So I just kind of built a whole character around that.
08:25And, um, when I went to acting school, we, um, had to do this thing called the six steps,
08:31uh, from an Uta Hagen book. And it was like, uh, who am I? What are my circumstances? Where
08:36did I come from? Where was like, it's just everything. And I did the whole essay and, um,
08:40yeah, it helped a lot.
08:41It worked.
08:42It worked.
08:44Totally worked. Um, let's talk about the finale. Cause that lip sync to Lady Gaga's
08:49Abracadabra was incredible. The looks talk about the foot, the, that final lip sync and
08:55the pressure, and then also just executing it.
09:00God insane. I mean, from getting the song that we're going to do all the way up to doing
09:07it, it's a lot. I feel like most of it is not in your control and you really have to just
09:14go at it, just doing your best because all the way up into the finale, uh, we've already
09:21won. We've already done the best we can. You know, a lot of what y'all see is up into,
09:28up to the drag gods and RuPaul. So when it comes to doing the final lip sync, it's just
09:33like, baby, I just got to do my best. I got to do my best and try to have a little bit
09:38of fun. And I think that was what was going on in my head, but yeah. Yeah. And you won.
09:45So congratulations.
09:46Oh, thank you. Um, but yeah, I mean, for me, I was like, okay, if I make it to the top
09:56two, like that performance, like is going to dictate the rest of your career almost.
10:01So I was on the opposite. I was overthinking everything. I was like, girl, it needs to
10:04be perfect. I need to do this. I need to do that. I was like a checklist in my mind.
10:08Um, and yeah, I mean, it was very overwhelming, very stressful, but there was almost like a
10:13sense of peace. Like right before I remember walking on, you held my hand and you were like,
10:18I think it's going to be us. Like right before we walked on and found out who it was going
10:21to be, she was like, I think it's going to be us. And I was like, okay, let's go give
10:24it girl. And, um, and yeah, it ended up totally being us. And there was like a sense of peace
10:29because we were like on the stage that we had done the whole season on. It wasn't like a
10:32different stage. Our parents were like right in front of us. Her family was right here.
10:36My family was right here. And it was like, all right, let's, let's give it, let's have
10:40fun. And yeah, it was, it was great.
10:42I love it. I want to come back to something that you said earlier, Jules, about drag at
10:46this time when there is so much hate for the community going on. What does it mean for all
10:53of you for drag race to be, you know, as popular is, but also just hearing the stories,
10:58telling your stories and being a part of the drag race community this time.
11:03Gala, can I start with you?
11:04Yeah. I mean, like you said, we all have such different stories. I think that's what's so
11:09beautiful about the casting and like the show of the, we all come the top four, the whole
11:14cast could not have come from more different backgrounds. You know what I mean? And getting
11:18to have all these queer people, like, like I, from such different backgrounds, be able to
11:23be like, this is who I am. And this is what we all have in common. We all have gone through
11:27so much in such different ways, but drag is what kind of saved us all. And having
11:33that, you know, be displayed on TV, like Anya coming from where she comes from, me coming
11:38from my, you know, my surgeries and everything, you know, it's just really beautiful to have
11:44all those backgrounds and you really get to know people. And it's really humanizing.
11:49It's a humanizing experience to watch drag race and be like, oh, wait, like, these are
11:54just humans that have gone through what they've gone through. And now they're here creating
11:58fierce, fierce art. And yeah, it's really important. And it's an honor to be a part of
12:03the show right now, especially with all the politics going on.
12:07Yeah. I just think drag is, especially today is so much more than putting on a dress and
12:13doing makeup and lip syncing. You know, like what we do is a testament of following your dreams,
12:19betting on yourself, betting on yourself, not giving up, you know, regardless of like what
12:25the world says. We live in a world that success is measured monetarily. We do this five, some
12:32of us five days a week, not even knowing how we're going to make ends meet. If that's not
12:37a testament to following your dreams and knowing that there could be a hundred no's and one day
12:43there's going to be a yes, like this is what we represent. Like this is the dream, you know,
12:49like standing up and betting on yourself. That's exactly what we do. And it's so important for kids
12:56and people that look just like us to see that because it's so easy to go to school and be a lawyer.
13:04It's so easy to go to school and be a doctor and all those things, but it's not easy to say,
13:08I'm going to put on a dress. I'm going to do my makeup clock. I'm going to, I'm going to go to
13:16a nightclub at 12 AM. Hello. Prance around for maybe $10 and tips in hopes that I make it on
13:23RuPaul's drag race. Right. Clock it, clock it, clock it, clock it. It did it. The following your
13:30dreams. I really don't know what is. So that's what I represent in today's time. And that's what we
13:36represent. Honestly. Yeah. I, I also think, Oh, thank you. I also think that like getting to be
13:43a part of, you know, helping to make those dreams come true and helping to like sort of put these
13:49incredible humans and artists onto a bigger platform and, you know, like allowing the viewers
13:56to have the opportunity to meet them and letting them share their art. And also going even further
14:03than that, the people who watch the show are, you know, we have a lot of young viewers. They see
14:08themselves represented. They see hope. And it's like, it's so incredibly rewarding. And I pinch
14:13myself every day that I get to do a job that like really matters to a lot of people. We do a lot of
14:19fun shows and a lot of things that are just like a good time, right? You win some money or, you know,
14:22you go on TV, you get the notoriety, but drag race really makes a difference to a huge community of
14:28people. And I feel so incredibly fortunate to be even a small part of their journey.
14:32A huge part.
14:38So I know Eddie Murphy hasn't seen your match game yet. So we need to make sure Eddie Murphy gets to
14:45see it. Right. I know if any of you know, Eddie Murphy out there, tell them that there's a young
14:50black boy, young black girl. Speaking of, please introduce Eddie. Yeah. Eddie Murphy needs to see
14:58this. I just want to shake his hand. He's an icon. It's so, it was so cool to imitate him and then do
15:06like a decent job in hopes that one day he could see it because of what he does. Like what I did is
15:13what he has done our entire, his entire career is like imitating and playing all these crazy
15:18characters. And it was just cool to like step into that box of craziness. We love that. We're
15:24going to make that happen. Sasquatch, unfortunately, I don't know. Yeah. Where's my Sasquatch shot
15:29out? Am I going to meet her? Like what? What's next for you, Queens? What are you up to? I mean,
15:36have you recovered from the season and doing the show? I think we're taking a day by day right now.
15:43You know, it's, it's, it's been a whirlwind. After Drag Race, we have gone city to city and just
15:50been so blessed to be able to like be working right now in this environment. So taking it day
15:56by day and manifesting our future realities as we go. Yeah. You know me, I'm an, I hope to get on
16:04Broadway soon. Um, I hope to like be doing shows and just expanding everything that I'm already doing.
16:12You know, I'm a, I'm an Ohio girl. I don't know if y'all know this, but the cost of living in Ohio is
16:17very cheap. Um, so I'm in the process of getting a new house and yeah, just being a bigger, badder
16:26on your nerves. On that note, I want to say thank you so much. Congratulations on the season.
16:36Thank you guys. Thank you. And can we wish Goloka a happy birthday? It's her birthday today.
16:45Oh my God. You and Lana Gerace, her birthday. Amazing. Well, thank you for her happy birthday.
16:52Thank you very much for that incredible Drag Race conversation. Thank you for having us.
16:57And thank you, Amy too. Um, and thank you all and stay tuned for the next conversation.
17:01All right. Thank you guys. Thank you.
