00:00I can let you know that this week the club and I, we have agreed that these two games are going to be my last two games as a Bayern Leverkusen coach.
00:11We have been talking during this week that it's always about the momentum and now is the right moment to announce it.
00:20Because we have always had this good communication, this direct communication with the club.
00:27And now that we have clarity, it's the right moment to say that for sure it's a moment with mixed emotions.
00:37That it's the moment to announce it and to know it.
00:42But yes, it's the moment to do it.
00:45It's not the moment as well to not to talk too much and not to talk about the future.
00:51Because now that we know we want to have a proper farewell on Sunday here for some players, for myself, and it was the right moment to announce it.
01:06I think that we have to enjoy this moment with mixed emotions, for sure it's emotional.
01:15I have talked this morning with the players, with the staff, with so many people that has helped me during this unbelievable, fantastic three years.
01:26And now it's the moment to share it as well on Sunday, especially with the fans in this stadium, where I have lived great, great emotions, when I have become what I am right now.
01:41And I have to be thankful to everyone, from the fans, the people in the club, the staff, and for sure the players to live.
01:52And it's football is many times about the moment and probably the moment is the good one for everyone and let's try to enjoy it till the last moment, as much as we have done till now.
02:07I think that we can be happy, we can be proud of what we have achieved during this time.
02:13Different moments, but always with a good feeling that we were taking the club in the right direction and we could do the great things as it finally happened.
02:24So mixed emotions, but very thankful from the first day till the last one.
02:32And now we have still two games, we will have time to get more emotional, but the decision was taken.
02:38And then the club, like always, we have had a very good connection and understanding and the clarity was there, so you got it finally, the announcement, after chasing it.
02:55Man and Elwacher, please come back.
02:58Yeah, hello zusammen, hello Xabi.
03:00Thank you very much for a very emotional, great time.
03:03It had fun, but it's not even over yet.
03:05Yeah, it's fun, but we are doing English today because it's better to explain all this.
03:10Yeah, it's emotional, it's a mixed emotions.
03:14Especially today, it has been the moment with the people of the club, with the players for sure, because they have given me so much.
03:22And I think that we have had a great connection and that's been the key, you know, that I have felt that they believed in me and they follow me.
03:32And that's why we have been so busy going every day with our things, with our games, winning, losing, but always with a good chemistry.
03:43And it was important and for sure it was emotional.
03:47It's still time to enjoy it, but that's going to be the idea to, now that we have clarity, to enjoy till the last moment.
03:55We have a big moment. I'm really looking forward on Sunday.
04:00The game up against Dortmund for many players, not just for myself, for Jonathan Ta, for me, for other players that can be the last day in our stadiums.
04:10And the fans as well. I want that to have a proper goodbye with them.
04:18Philip Ahrens, please.
04:20Philip Ahrens, from the BILD-Zeitung.
04:21Philip Ahrens, please.
04:22Philip Ahrens, from the BILD-Zeitung.
04:23Philip Ahrens, please.
04:24Philip Ahrens, from the BILD-Zeitung.
04:25Philip Ahrens, English or German?
04:26English.
04:27That's my big story.
04:28After three years, I can't have a good German press conference yet.
04:33BILD-Note 2.
04:35BILD-Note 2.
04:36BILD-Note 2.
04:37Philip Ahrens, would it have been not correct to go into the match on Sunday without giving the chance or the club even to do a farewell for you?
04:47Now everything is clear, now they can do it, you can do it.
04:52I think that it's coming in the right moment.
04:55We know that in football and in life it's about choosing the right moment and to know when you can do it the best possible way.
05:03And I think that it is going to work the proper way.
05:07That was my intention, but you need to wait.
05:12And this week with the club we have agreed that and we thought that it was fine.
05:17And for me it's important as well because it's not like it has been a short, not meaningful time.
05:23It has been a very important, long, meaningful, successful time here what we have lived in this club, in this stadium.
05:32What the respect, the appreciation that I have felt, I want to give it back till the last day.
05:39And for sure it will be a mixed emotion, sad, but it can be a moment to celebrate, not just myself.
05:48Maybe Jonathan Tak could be here talking about his feelings, but I'm talking about myself.
05:53And I'm looking forward to try to enjoy it and being touchy and being emotional.
06:00No, no, no. I have already said that it is the moment to talk about this decision.
06:15It is not the moment to talk about the future.
06:18So today was the moment to explain what was happening till today and what we have in the next two weeks.
06:31And try to have this clarity that till now we didn't have it and not too much about the future.
06:37Fabrik Scherer, please, from Kölner Stadtanzeiger.
06:40We heard you talk to the players and told them your decision. What was the reaction of the players?
06:47Yeah, for sure. It's, you know, when we have been together for three years and you tell them that maybe,
06:55well, that we are not going to be together anymore. So you, they have given me so much for sure.
07:01There are some that they feel that I have had a good connection, some for them.
07:05So I think that it takes time to maybe to have it, but it was a nice, nice feeling.
07:10The appreciation, respect that we have supported each other.
07:13I have tried to squeeze them as much as possible. They have given me so much.
07:17So maybe we are empty coach now, but good.
07:21But always have been good with the little things, normal.
07:24But always, that has been one of the keys of this great few years.
07:29The good connection that I have with the players.
07:32The respect, the appreciation that we have to each other.
07:36And this is not going to be banished in two weeks.
07:40It's going to stay for longer.
07:42And my connection with the club, with Baylor Kursen as well.
07:45And hopefully I will come in the future or to play or as a fan with family.
07:54So as well, my family, we have had the respect, the support from everyone.
08:01So they are really thankful as well.
08:03Javier Cáceres from the Süddeutschen.
08:08Hello, Xavi.
08:10You said something like that the environment in Liverpool has helped you to become what you are right now, what you are today.
08:17In which way did you change in these almost three years with Liverpool as coach?
08:21I think that all of us, we have changed.
08:23I think that for sure we have to finish the season.
08:27But looking back during these three seasons, it's been a development of everyone.
08:36Where we started the first year, probably it was the most difficult season because of the situation,
08:46because it's a new club and you need to learn quick and you need to get results.
08:51So probably the first season was the most difficult one.
08:55The second season, it was the historic season.
08:59It was a dream season with great nights, great games.
09:04And we made history for sure.
09:07And this season, it's been the most challenging one.
09:11When we had to fulfill expectations, when we were playing Champions League,
09:17where we were playing to try to give our best and that we don't make the final and we are disappointed.
09:23So that means that there has been a development in the club, in the players and in myself for sure.
09:30I have learned so many things and I have improved as a coach, as someone that needs to have more resources for myself, for the future.
09:43And it has worked pretty well, I would say.
09:46And that was the intention, that it was going to work.
09:51Simone is right there, Fernando as well.
09:53So I remember our first meeting in San Sebastian.
09:56We had some ideas, some expectations.
09:59So once you fulfill them, you can say that the job was done.
10:03Marlon Eewacher from Sky, please.
10:05Javi, why do you think it's time for the next step?
10:10Probably after the months.
10:12Once the season is wrapped, once we feel that, okay, we have to fulfill our obligations until the last day,
10:21it will be a moment for the next thing.
10:24You said it's too early to communicate your future, but you already know what you're doing in the future, right?
10:33No.
10:34No, no, no.
10:35Not the moment for that.
10:40Philipp Ahrens, please, from the Bild-Zeitung.
10:43So is it a bit of a relief also for you after all the weeks, every Friday, questions?
10:50I think that, Simone said preferably a few weeks ago, clarity is good for everyone.
10:56And now that we have clarity, I think that it's good that we know where we are going,
11:01to take decisions, to know how is the situation, what cars we have.
11:09And yes, it's a good moment for everyone.
11:12We have now no moments for doubts, for my side.
11:16And now we have to enjoy it and to play as good as we can and to focus on the game,
11:23on the football side on Sunday, on the farewell side, emotional after the game,
11:29hopefully with a good feeling.
11:30I think that for everyone, it's a good situation.
11:37Javi, when and why did you decide to leave this club?
11:41Why?
11:42But it's about moments in football and sometimes to choose the right one is the most difficult decision.
11:52And time will tell, but I feel that it has worked pretty well as I have said.
11:58And it will continue.
12:02But we have had always, like I said, a good, very good communication, very good relation with the club.
12:10It has been one of the reasons why last year I decided I was going to stay.
12:16Because I felt really well.
12:18It's not the reason that we have agreed, we have taken the decision because that has changed.
12:24That has not changed.
12:25But the momentum maybe is different to say, it has worked well till now and that's it.
12:38Javi, do you have a valid visa for the United States?
12:42No idea.
12:43Javi, how do you see your personal development from the beginning at Bayer Leverkusen till now?
12:53Javi, for sure.
12:54Javi, for sure, where it is there.
12:56I don't know how to measure it.
12:58It is difficult to measure the development.
13:00But for sure, in terms of personality, in terms of football resources, in terms of analyze football,
13:07in terms of connection, in terms of trying to convince the players, it has changed.
13:12And I have to be thankful for Simon, Fernando, to Mr. Benin, that they believed in me.
13:19They were the first people that I got in Cocteau from Bayer Leverkusen,
13:23that they believed that I could be the right person to take the next step in this club.
13:29And, you know, that first feeling was really important for me, that I was going to try to prove myself.
13:36But because till now, till that moment, I hadn't had more experience.
13:40And to be given the chance are mostly the most important things.
13:45And after, you know, it's three years with ups and downs, mostly with ups, luckily.
13:52But I have learned, I have improved a lot.
13:56But you never stop improving learning, so hopefully I am not stopping anymore.
14:02Is there one particular moment we don't know which was your most emotional moment?
14:10That's a good question. I was not ready for this, eh?
14:14Sorry.
14:15Yes, but it was Pokal final. The Pokal final when we won.
14:21The last week of last year, it was very intense.
14:27You know, after the whole year, for sure, the Bundesliga, the celebration of the Bundesliga.
14:32But at some point, I knew that we were going to win the Bundesliga.
14:36It was against Bremen or it could be against Dortmund or against Frankfurt, maybe.
14:43But, you know, that last week, because we felt a little bit the bitterness of football in Dublin.
14:51I said, well, we can't have that bad feeling that we are going to vacation with a bad feeling because we have lost to final.
14:58So, I was tense. I was, you know, eager to finish with a good feeling last year.
15:04So, that meant a lot, that moment of celebration in the Pokal, to make the double.
15:09And we could properly celebrate an historic year for the club and to be there with the players, with the families, with the fans, with friends.
15:22It was the summary of a perfect year, to be honest.
15:25This year has been a very good year, but last year was a dream year.
15:29So, it won't be forgotten. Maybe this one, you can forget it quicker.
15:34I say it has been a good year, but last year was, I think that in 20 years maybe it will be remembered still.
15:44You already said you expect an emotional Sunday afternoon.
15:48Can you once again describe the connection which grows between you and the fans and the club?
15:56Well, I think that respect, this complicity, this, you know,
16:03they value what you achieve and how you achieve them.
16:09That they have this wish to enjoy with the team and that's what we have tried to do, to enjoy it as well with them.
16:15They have given us energy.
16:17So, I have felt what you need, the support from everyone, from the fans, from the club, the respect and the confidence.
16:28So, putting all these things, now is the time to show that you can do it well and I had that.
16:34So, that helped me a lot.
16:36So, when you announced last year in the dressing room that they would stay in Leverkusen, we know that the players applauded you.
16:45How was the reaction today?
16:47Of course, they could have expected what your decision will be.
16:52But now you spoke and the two guys, what was their reaction?
16:57pretty similar I think that thankful for because we have lived as well and they have it has been
17:06a very important cycle cycle three years for for many of them so to have like a proper feeling and
17:16that that it's the moment that some of that sometime has to come to an end and normally
17:23if you can choose to be in a in a good way it's much better that it is in a bad way but we are we
17:28have all the feeling that it's in a in a right way for sure everyone I think in the club the directors
17:37the players myself so that makes it more you know like it's more easygoing the the situation the
17:44player they we have had a a good moment of emotional connection that that happens in when important
17:53things happen it happened last last Tuesday as well with Jonah with Jonathan and today again it has
18:00happened so that's it are you happy with the condition you leave in the club in and what was
18:11your prediction for for the club and what do you think is important for the club in the future for
18:17sure it's I think that there is no doubt that the momentum of the club and the team is very good it's
18:26fantastic the squad that we have you know the where we have been able to to develop the club at the
18:34moment I think that it's it's obvious that we can be happy with that we can be proud of that and in the
18:42group they are very intelligent and very well prepared people that will take the club in the
18:48right direction the way that the best the same way that they have done till now and you know I will
18:54always be there to to help them in the in my possible in the best possible way I can to to help
19:00because you know this doesn't vanish no that I am not here but I forget everything no this is not me
19:05I want to to still have this you know appreciate this this bond with with Bayern 0-4 because because that
19:14that stays forever
19:26another question but not about the game Chubby a newspaper called Bild Zeitung wrote yesterday that
19:34Florian Wirtz wants to join Bayern Munich and only Bayern Munich and that he told you that about that can
19:42you tell us something about it so they have one info that I don't know that's the first thing I know
19:47that with Florian we have spoken about about us about the game about what we have but he hasn't told me
19:53that so that's not my information you have asked to the you have to ask but he hasn't informed me that and
19:59we haven't talked about the future now
20:05what can you tell us about the reaction of Fernando and Simon Wolfes when you told them that you are leaving the club
20:11well it's not that I told them it's that that we have been always on the same page of many topics and this was not different so there was a situation that we had to address all of us together and they have been very you know the comprehension and the understanding of the
20:27the comprehension and the understanding from from then has been supportive from so we haven't had any kind
20:33of collision moment so it was it was a good way to talk that like most of the time here
20:40and that's that being part of the good decision that we have taken you know that it was not just
20:47guide taking the decision it was between all of us and when we have a good consensus about one important
20:52topic that we were going fully convinced for that
20:58when you when you look on sunday and the game do you think you have to motivate your team or do you think
21:04about the farewell for for you and you they will be motivated already i will do as always i will do my
21:10part it's not going to change so we are preparing after these are the extra thing but what for sure is
21:16going to happen 95 minutes against dormant top team fighting for champions league but it's our last
21:22home game so for sure it won't for john as well so i wish that he he was here because i don't forget the
21:28first the first weeks october in 22 when the difficulty it was much more tension for maybe in this press
21:37conference and we were starting in a new era where many uh unknown situations but i we had to learn and
21:49jonah was from day one one of the guys that support what supported or helped me so much you know because
21:54of his personality and and his development has been fantastic not not that jonah many of them i will be
22:02very uh uh not not uh not fair enough to talk about just one so they help me but i don't forget those
22:09first weeks they they they they don't they don't banish so quickly the whole stuff your stuff is inside
22:21this room um does that show how much they mean to you yes yes without them it's it will be absolutely
22:30impossible uh they are so good they are so uh professional they work so much they help me so
22:37much and they are great guys and the feel the players they really appreciate them so that's
22:44that's uh as well one of the successes that we have been able to build that that good relation with
22:53all the we were not the like the the bosses we were like help coming here to help them and they
23:00have felt that and from the first day till the last day we are going to be continuing doing that
23:05and and for sure i have to be very very thankful so this i am i am spending a lot of hours but now i
23:12can't sell them in public did you have to promise simon and fernando that you don't take any players from
23:21bayern leverkusen to your next club no problems to take okay the bay arena will be completely filled
23:31seien am sonntag it will be great 3.000 fans come from dortmund net if there are no further questions
23:37we are here today it's not the last so we have the time next week okay thank you
