Both India and Pakistan confirmed news of the ceasefire following US mediation after days of cross-border strikes. It was the most serious increase in hostilities so far in a conflict triggered by a gun massacre in Kashmir last month.

00:08It was the most serious increase in hostility so far in a conflict triggered by a gun massacre in Kashmir last month.
00:16India's foreign secretary announced the agreement at a briefing on Saturday.
00:21It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time today.
00:40Meanwhile, Indian shelling killed at least 11 people and wounded 56 others overnight in several areas near the line of control in Kashmir.
00:48The fresh round of confrontation was yet another escalation of a decade-long conflict.
